A LETTER FROM COURSE SUPERINTENDENT COREY SEALS

COREYSEALS

Is it spring already?

These warm temps have definitely given everyone spring fever. As we get into March I would like to fill our membership in on our spring plans

We completed another successful tree removal project over the winter We'll focus on removing stumps over the coming month

Many of the areas where we removed trees are bare due to heavy shade. These areas now have sufficient sunlight to grow grass. We will be seeding these areas in the coming weeks. Watch for rope stakes or carts signs to keep carts out of the newly seeded areas. It should be noted that most of these areas are not irrigated. The seed will be at the mercy of the weather once it hits the ground. Last week we installed hitting mats on the range tee. The natural grass tee will be closed through March and we are strictly mats only. We plan to tentatively open the natural grass tee April 1st. This will certainly preserve our range tee for the coming season. I would like to thank everyone who contributed to this much needed purchase!

We plan to deep tine aerate the greens at the end of March. This will bust up the clay layer that exists five to six inches below the greens' surface. The first Monday in April we will have the Dryject service here. Dryject is a machine, much like an aerator, that makes a hole in the green and injects dried sand down into the greens' profile with little to no surface disruption. I feel that this process, coupled with the deep tine aeration, will open up channels for drainage and pore space for root growth. We have an ambitious set of goals and projects for the coming season. I will update everyone as these start to take shape. Our maintenance staff is committed to making Link Hills Country Club better every day. Thank you for your support.

WHY DRYJECT?

Benefits

On both cool and warm season turf, DryJect’s unique agronomic benefits fit into any maintenance routine.

Agronomically Effective – Deep aeration holes are filled completely when injecting into putting greens. Depending on spacing and depth requirements, 8 – 30 tons of sand can be injected per acre. Lighter ceramics and like materials will be close to 35% of sand.

Exceptionally Fast – DryJect aerates, topdresses and amends in one operation. DryJect requires minimal cleanup, there is very little playing surface impairment.

Highly Versatile – DryJect depths can be adjusted from 2 to 12 inches (depending on soil type and compaction) and can be matched to support the level of firmness you want in your approaches

Virtually Invisible – DryJect requires minimal cleanup There is very little playing surface impairment

Helps Immediately – During the playing season, a quick application can relieve stressed areas when they need it most

Mechanics/Physics

DryJect holds patents on its proprietary equipment, which features the most advanced technology of its kind High-pressure water penetrates the turf root zone, and amendments include sand / peat mixtures, inorganic soil amendments and more are injected into the resulting aeration holes. Among the key benefits are speed, labor savings, and increased profitability for golf courses, resulting from the excellent putting conditions left after the DryJect service.

Injected materials are sucked into a high-pressure water stream via the Venturi effect. The force of the mixture pulses into the turf with little damage to the surface, shattering the underlying soil and giving you deep root penetration.

Benefits of Professionally Fitted Clubs

1 They get tailor-made for your swing

When getting your clubs fitted, you always go in for a personalized appointment

A professional fitter analyzes your swing and details your unique club tendencies. Advanced software is used to ensure that no data is left out of the evaluation.

Once the details are in place, the professional will identify the best shaft and clubhead for your individual profile.

2. It makes a huge difference in your performance

Once you have your custom clubs in tow, you will see a noticeable improvement to your score

The best way to test this for yourself is to visit the course you frequent the most The familiarity you have with each hole will help you see the benefits firsthand

3. It saves you money in the long run

While custom-fitting is a bit more expensive than buying a random set of clubs, you ultimately save money by going straight to the best equipment for your tendencies. As you strive to improve your score, you will want to keep buying different sets to see how they affect your game Custom fitting services remove this trial and error process so you can get the best clubs right away Buying a single custom set is way cheaper than buying a myriad of assorted products over time

4. You can target a specific area of your game

Rather than going all out on a full set, many golfers choose to get a specific club custom fit in order to test the service. For instance, you may choose to order just a putter if that part of your game is the weakest This allows you to bolster your skills in a more personalized manner Once you confirm that the custom putter improves your score, you can opt to go back and complete the set if you so wish

Pitch or Chip that is the question!

The pitch shot should be a lofted shot that lands on the green softly with little roll. In order to execute this shot the club must be a high lofted club like a sand-wedge. The club face will open in the backswing movement and remain open through impact The pitch or lob shot is used when carrying over bunkers or when greens are sloped going downhill This shot is maximum air time with minimum roll out The chip shot can be used with any club The club face must stay square to the ball in the backswing movement. This will create over spin on the ball and allow the ball to roll. The chip and run would be best used in mid-range to long distances around the green as if you were putting from a long distance. This shot is minimum air time and maximum roll out.

February was a month filled with wonderful events at Link Hills Country Club! We were thrilled to see so many of our members and guests come out to join us for a variety of fun activities, from fundraisers to delicious meals. We were particularly honored to have a full house for our sold-out Valentine's Day Dinner, which featured a specially crafted menu and romantic ambiance that was sure to impress. We want to take a moment to thank everyone who spent their evening with us and made this event such a success. We couldn't do it without our amazing members and guests, and we look forward to hosting many more memorable events in the months to come!

The staff at Link Hills Country Club were honored to host this year's annual fundraiser for Greeneville's Youth Builders organization. For over 75 years, Youth Builders has been promoting excellence, achievement, and success with local youth, and we are proud to support their mission. This year's Mardi Gras theme was a blast to help put together, and our own Jessica Holt would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to her hardworking staff. They worked diligently to completely transform the clubhouse into a Mardi Gras Dream, complete with colorful decorations, lively music, and a delicious spread of food that kept everyone fueled for a night of fun and fundraising. We are so grateful for the opportunity to be a part of such a wonderful event, and we look forward to continuing to support Youth Builders and other important causes in our community..

Monthly Wine Tastings!

Becky Rideout and Roy & Faye Mecke host a monthly wine tasting event that takes place at the Clubhouse. Each month, Becky collaborates with the Bottle Shop to select a specific type of wine for the tasting Meanwhile, Roy and his team research various wines that fit within Becky's chosen theme of the month

The tastings themselves cover a range of themes, such as wines from specific countries or wines made from particular varietals. The primary goal of each tasting is to educate attendees on the various qualities of wine, including taste, smell, and texture. In addition, Becky works with the club's chef to create hors d'oeuvres that complement the wine being tasted

One of the highlights of these monthly tastings is Becky's creative twists on the pairings. Whether it's a fun way to pair the wine with a food or a small gift for participation, Becky ensures that the tastings are as enjoyable as they are informative. If you've never attended one of these monthly wine tastings, be sure to reserve your spot and come have some fun with Becky, Roy & Faye Mecke, and the Link Hills Staff!

CLUBHOUSE RENOVATION

The repair and revitalization of the 19th Hole & The Oak Lounge

We have received several inquiries regarding the ongoing construction work at the 19th Hole Grill and The Oak Lounge. We would like to inform you that the water damage that occurred in December was unexpected and caught us all by surprise. As a result, we have engaged a reliable contractor to ensure that everything is restored to the highest standard for our members The Link Hills Property Board is overseeing this project, and we are thrilled about the expected completion

We acknowledge that it has been challenging for members to have the grill closed, and dinner service moved to the ballroom. We thank you for your patience and understanding during this transition phase. We anticipate that the grill will be reopened within the next 7-10 days once the construction work commences. We are thrilled about this timing as it aligns with the beginning of golf season!

We appreciate your cooperation and patience as we work towards completing this project. We look forward to having the grill and lounge back in full operation for our members to enjoy.

HE STORY F LINK LLS

Link Hills Country Club traces back the first golf ball was hit on the old Link ivate property of Jay Milligan and Tom heir homes, was utilized by golfers in Tennessee as the official golf course. effort to organize this group of golfers in the formation of an informal as the Greeneville Golf and Country membership fee of $35 Despite dget, the group accomplished much efforts of Bill Ruble, the veteran green's peration of all concerned

Milligan generously donated his land for the old golf urse and urged a group of energetic young citizens to ate a suitable piece of property and to lay plans for the nstruction of a golf course and the erection of a suitable bhouse Mr Milligan located the most desirable piece of perty, the old Link Farm, and arranged for its purchase olding company, named Country Estates, was formed acquire this property, and stock subscriptions were cited, with the Magnavox Company becoming the gest single stockholder recognizing the need for such a lity in the community

L i n k H i l l s I n s i d e r | 2 1

Robert Trent Jones, an internationally famous golf architect, was engaged to lay out the golf course, and the services of Mr A G McKay, a famous golf course builder, were associated to supervise construction of the nine-hole course The club was incorporated on June 17, 1954, and the doors were first opened in September of that year, with approximately 150 resident members.

The club flourished over the years with increased membership and the loyal support of the community In 1963, the membership decided that the original club premises needed a radical facelift and more space A decision was made to expand the nine-hole golf course into an 18-hole facility, a significant undertaking that required much thought and preparation. A quarter of a million dollars was projected for the expansion program.

In 1964, when this extensive renovation and expansion program was being undertaken, an executive committee was elected, comprised of Byron Sites, Roswell Bewley, and Warren Snead Their responsibility was to supervise the construction as well as to manage the operations of the club. The renovation program was completed in the fall of 1964, with the exception of the golf course, which was opened in the spring of 1965.
