AVANT-GARDE TEXTS IN THE PRACTICE OF THE VITEBSK UNOVIS

The flow of artists’ manifestos, declarations, decrees, orders, and other forms of verbal creativity has become a characteristic feature and an important part of the heritage of the Russian avant-­garde. For the authors themselves, these manifestations served various purposes: the expression of the postulates of their direction in art; or the mischievous shocking of the public (épater les bourgeois); or discussion with opponents; or agitation, the attempt to win people over; or, finally, an act of creativity per se, that extended beyond the literary realm.

In this sense, the legacy of the Vitebsk UNOVIS is quite extensive: press publications, posters, leaflets, typewritten almanacs (UNOVIS No.

1, AERO), and lithographic and typographic publications. UNOVIS members were not the first in Vitebsk to use such mediums in their practice.

Marc Chagall,1 Ivan Puni2 and Lazar Lissitzky,3 at the time the association formed, had already expressed their position in the pages of Vitebsk publications. Kazimir Malevich had likewise already published his article on Suprematism.4 However, only UNOVIS, in its messianic desire to expand the union-­party, attached special importance to the printed word, using all possible options.

The first step in this direction was the poster for the evening “Group of Artists — ​Front Week” on February 6, 1920. The organizing group, Postnovis, renamed itself “UNOVIS” on February 14. But on the poster, the symbol of unity was a black square. It did not contain the detailed postulates of the new movement, but each point of the evening program breathed a special pathos: “Meeting,” “Victory over the Sun. Futuristic Opera,” “Suprematist Ballet. For the first time in the world.”

The slogan for the February 6 evening event was “The Red Army of Creativity is replacing the Army of War and the Army of Labor.”5 This phrase was given special significance, which would seem to be premature, considering the situation in the country and on the fronts, but it was consonant with Maxim Gorky’s broadly circulated statements about subbot-

the importance of the “creative army of new art” in the new “life building” of the collective labor.

On March 17, the Vitebsk Izvestiias published Appeal of UNOVIS, which became essentially the first manifesto of the new association.7 UNOVIS members rejected the need to “renew the old, which had been shattered by the cannons of the Revolution.” They set themselves the task of “overthrowing the old world of art” and pursuing the “common creative work” of the new world, having completed the “Theater Revolution, the Architecture Revolution, the Music Revolution, and the creation of utilitarian forms of the world of things.”

The appeal called on all those “voting for a new art” to join the organization “ UNOVIS” (here is a transcript of “approval of a new art”) (fig. 15).

Soon, an article by Lissitzky in Russian, “Toward Creativity [artist’s letter],” appeared in the literary section of the March issue of the magazine Molodoi

gorn (Young Horn).8 Like many texts written by UNOVIS members, the publication was accompanied by a black square and the slogan, “Overthrow the old world of art, let it be drawn on your palms.” Lissitzky’s article was, in fact, a continuation of the discussion around the “new” art that had unfolded in the Vitebsk press a year earlier and was supposed to give answers that young people could understand.9 The artist incorporated highly imaginative and accessible metaphors. In conclusion, the artist urged the young Communards — ​the “claimants of new forms of life” — ​to move along with becoming “claimants of new forms of art,” “for the first and second are one essence”: “Proclaim your will to the world and overthrow private property in creativity!”

The active work of UNOVIS in the early 1920 (“evenings of experimental drawing,” reports, the painting of stands, switching to the side of the association of students of the workshop of M. Chagall)10 was not reflected in the press, except for the announcement of the preparation of the failed congress of new artists in Kozelsk11 and a discussion about contemporary art with the participation of representatives of the district art schools of Polotsk, Gorodok, and Lepel.12 The local press reported a delegation of students of the art school traveling to Moscow on June 5, 1920, to participate in the All-­R ussian Conference of Art Students and Students.13 At the conference, an exhibition of the works of UNOVIS members was held.14 A leaflet, “From UNOVIS,” was circulated among the conference members that outlined the main views of FIG. 15

Поток манифестов, деклараций, декретов, приказов и других форм вербального творчества художников стал характерной особенностью и важной частью наследия русского авангарда. Сами авторы по-разному относились к таким явлениям — ​это и выражение постулатов своего направления в искусстве, и явное эпатирование публики, игровой элемент, и дискуссия с оппонентами, и агитация, попытка привлечь на свою сторону, и, наконец, акт творчества как таковой, выходящий за рамки литературного жанра. В этом смысле наследие витебского УНОВИСа довольно значительно — ​публикации в прессе, афиши, листовки, машинописные альманахи: «УНОВИС № 1», «АЭРО», литографские и типографские издания. Члены УНОВИСа не были первыми в Витебске, кто стал использовать такие формы в своей практике. И Марк Шагал1, 2, и Иван Пуни3, 4 , и Лазарь Лисицкий5 к моменту создания объединения уже высказались о своей позиции со страниц витебских изданий. Публикуется и статья Казимира Малевича о супрематизме.6 Однако только УНОВИС в своей мессианской тяге к расширению объединения-­партии придавал особое значение печатному слову, используя для этого все возможности. Первым шагом в этом направлении стала афиша вечера «Группа художников — ​неделе фронта» 6 февраля 1920 года. УНОВИС будет преобразован из Постновиса 14 февраля. Но на афише символ объединения — ​черный квадрат. Она не содержит развернутых постулатов нового движения, но каждый пункт программы вечера дышит особым пафосом: «Митинг», «Победа над Солнцем. Футуристическая опера», «Супрематический балет. Впервые в мире». Отметим, что, как указывается в «Примечаниях к движению УНОВИСа», вечер 6 февраля проходил под лозунгом «Красная армия творчества идет на смену армии вой­ны и армии труда».7 Этой фразе придавалось особое значение, казалось бы, несвоевременное, если учитывать положение в стране и на фронтах, но созвучное чуть позже широко растиражированным высказываниям Максима Горького о субботниках и «армиях труда»: «Праздник наступил, и Горький почувствовал и увидел то, что составляет, действительно, начало новой 47

эпохи: «Дуновение труда, который уничтожит голод и нищету, труда, который переделает мир».8 Члены УНОВИСа попытались уйти вперед и подчеркнуть значение в новом «жизнестроении» коллективного труда «творческой армии нового искусства».

17 марта в витебских «Известиях» было опубликовано «Обращение УНОВИСа»,9 ставшее по сути первым манифестом нового объединения. Члены УНОВИСа отрицали необходимость «возобновлять старое, разбитое пушками Революции», ставили перед собой задачу «ниспровержения старого мира искусств» и построения в «общей творческой работе» нового мира, совершив «Революцию Театра, Революцию архитектуры, Революцию музыки и создание утилитарных форм мира вещей». В обращении содержался призыв всех «голосующих за новое искусство» вступать в организацию «УНОВИС» (здесь дается расшифровка «утверждения нового искусства») (рис. 15). Вскоре в «Литературном отделе» мартовского номера журнала «Молодой горн» появляется статья Лисицкого на русском языке «К творчеству (письмо художника)».10 Как и многие тексты членов УНОВИСа, публикация сопровождается изображением черного квадрата и лозунгом: «Ниспровержение старого мира искусств да будет вычерчено на ваших ладонях». Статья Лисицкого стала, по сути, продолжением дискуссии вокруг «нового» искусства, развернувшейся в витебской прессе еще год назад,11 и должна была дать понятные для молодежи ответы. Художник стремится использовать максимально образные и доступные метафоры. В завершение художник призывал молодых коммунаров — ​«утверждателей12 новых форм жизни» — ​двигаться вместе с «утверждателями новых форм искусства», «ибо первое и второе едино суть»: «Возвестите же миру свою волю и свергните частную собственность на творчество!». Активная деятельность УНОВИСа в начале 1920 г. («вечера опытного рисования», доклады, роспись трибун, переход на сторону объединения учащихся мастерской М. Шагала)13 не нашла отражения в печати, кроме сообщения о подготовке несостоявшегося съезда деятелей нового искусства в Козельске14 и проведении дискуссии о современном искусстве с участием представителей уездных художественных школ Полоцка, Городка и Лепеля.15 В местной прессе появилось сообщение об отъезде 5 июня 1920 г. делегации училища в Москву для участия во Всероссийской конференции учащихся и учащихся по искусству.16 В рамках конференции состоялась выставка работ членов УНОВИСа.17 Среди участников распространялась отпечатанная 48

типографским способом листовка «От УНОВИСа» с изложением основных взглядов объединения и призывом творческого комитета «под единым флагом УНОВИСа всем вместе одеть землю в одежду новой формы и смысла».18 Пропаганда объединения нашла сторонников, и группы приверженцев учения Малевича появились в Смоленске, Оренбурге, Москве, Саратове, Самаре, Перми, Екатеринбурге. На конференции был представлен отпечатанный в пяти экземплярах на пишущей машинке альманах «УНОВИС № 1», в который вошли как тексты К. Малевича, Л. Лисицкого, раскрывающие идеологию нового движения, так и статьи об «общественном творчестве» УНОВИСа: о театре, системе художественного образования, лекциях, выступлениях на митингах, истории объединения.19 Несмотря на последующую славу Витебска как одной из столиц авангарда, сторонники «левого» искусства не «овладели» городом безоговорочно. Скорее, наоборот: «левые» вынуждены были постоянно доказывать свою правоту, но и среди них не было единодушия.20 «Антиуновистские» настроения нашли отражение в стенной газете «Известия исполкома», которая была впервые вывешена на стенах мастерских 10 октября 1920 г.21 Содержание издания остается не известным, но в противовес ему 20 ноября последовал выход первого номера «УНОВИС. Листок Витебского творкома», изданного литографским способом. Номер начинается с весьма не толерантной статьи И. Чашника, в которой автор обвиняет авторов «индивидуалистической» газеты исполкома в непонимании значения идеи всемирного творчества: «И наши мастерские, построенные на основе единой программы, будут тем основанием, на котором должны быть построены все мастерские России, а в дальнейшем и всех стран мира, для того бесконечного творчества, примером которым мы служим, и проводить его мы должны частью через наше слово листовки УНОВИСа». Здесь же автор сообщает, что творческий комитет «партии УНОВИС» пришел к выводу о «недопустимости существования подобной газеты как контрреволюционного органа». В заключение следует призыв: «Восстанем, товарищи, и нашей самодеятельностью заставим замолчать наших бессознательных противников, и продолжим медленно, но верно продвигать нашу идею мирового творчества».22 В этом же номере помещены статьи Н. Коган «О графике единой программы УНОВИСа» и Л. Хидекеля «Новый реализм — ​ н аша современность», в которых авторы пытались убедить

в преимуществах программ «новой школы творчества» УНОВИСа на живописном и «строительно-­ф актическом» факультетах. В разделе «Рост УНОВИСа (хроника)» сообщается об участии витебской делегации в областной конференции УНОВИСа в Смоленске; о предложении Смоленска установить трибуну, изобретенную И. Чашником; об участии членов УНОВИСа в выставке «Искусство и революция» в Витебске; 23 об издании книги Малевича «Супрематизм. 34 рисунка», журнала «АЭРО», супрематических плакатов и др. Просьба прислать журнал «АЭРО» содержится также в письме Эль Лисицкого от 19 ноября 1920 г.,24 что позволяет отнести появление издания ко времени не позже написания письма. Журнал явился творческим проектом двух членов УНОВИСа И. Чашника и Л. Хидекеля. Издание не большое по объему: литографическая обложка, вклеены четыре супрематические графические работы, вступление, подписанное Л. Хидекелем, отпечатанные на машинке тексты двух статей (Чашника — ​ « Всемирный творческий коллектив», Хидекеля — ​начинающаяся с фразы «Полотно служит приведением достижений…») — ​всего 15 страниц, размером 25 х 20,5 см. Статья Чашника пронизана уверенностью в успехах и дальнейшем росте УНОВИСа, радостным пафосом коллективного созидания: «И не расслаблялся бы единый коллектив творчества, строящий дорогу и пути нашему миру к наибольшему совершенству экономики и движения. И вот явился бы единый коллектив, имея в себе всех членов творцов, стремящихся к наибольшему совершенству и достижению. И не будет ни одного искусства, ни одного изобретения, не исходящих из творческого коллектива миростроителей». Хидекель пытается философски осмыслить процесс нового понимания природы и творчества, направленного на созидание: «Но чтобы каждая сила и движение мирового творчества была направлена на путь жизнетворческого организма, в котором бы всякая минимальная и максимальная сила была направлена по пути организма, не тратя энергии попусту среди Хаоса предметов, но завоевывая ее, движение которых в пространстве противоречит. Это значит, что спасти их можно жизнетворческим организмом, который имеет одну цель, ведущую не к трате энергии, но к завоевыванию таковой, и к истине единомышленному организму творчества всего человечества». Много внимания в дискуссиях того времени уделялось теме «партийности в искусстве». Революция, провозглашение «диктатуры пролетариата», соци-

альные потрясения выдвинули вопрос о партийности и в спорах об искусстве. Зачастую политические клише и вульгарно-­социологические схемы служили критерием для определения места того или иного направления в искусстве в классовой иерархии. Однако, как утверждали представители власти, «пролетариат» еще только вырабатывал «собственный художественный критерий», поэтому «ни государственная власть, ни профессиональный союз не должны считать ни одного из них государственным, оказывая в то же время всяческое содействие новым исканиям в области искусства».25 Такой подход определил определенную свободу дискуссий, но не ослабил борьбы между направлениями в попытках доказать свою «пролетарскость». Январь 1921 г. отмечен появлением еще двух изданий УНОВИСа, которые были отпечатаны литографским способом и, вероятно, планировались как периодические: «Путь УНОВИСа» (№ 1, издание Центрального творкома УНОВИСа) (6 страниц, 35 х 22 см) (рис. 16, 17), «УНОВИС. II издание Виттворкома УНОВИС» (18 страниц, 18 х 11 см) (рис. 18). «Путь УНОВИСа» имеет газетный формат и заявляется как орган Центртворкома, то есть орган, призванный объединить все организации. «УНОВИС. II изд.» — ​ издание формата брошюры и орган только витебского творкома. Оба издания открываются статьями о партийности в искусстве: «Путь УНОВИСа» — ​статья К. Малевича «О партии в искусстве»; «УНОВИС. II изд.» — ​«Партийность в искусстве» М. Кунина. Материал Малевича занимает четыре полные страницы выпуска и делится на три раздела, не связанных между собой. В первом анализируются проблемы партийности в социальной и художественной жизни. Второй озаглавлен «О гармонии, создании вещи и власти ритма над художником», и здесь проводится тезис о несвободе «я» художника, находящегося во власти «систем, конструкций и законов», и выходе из этого в «совокупности действия миллионов единиц построенного организма как вечно изменяющейся гармонии». Третья часть состоит из двенадцати кратких высказываний, имеющих установочно-­ лозунговый характер, начинающихся со слова «если», которым озаглавлен весь раздел. Он заканчивается выводом о невозможности найти «культуру нового из образований староваторов и новаторов»: «…никогда новую культуру нельзя образовать и<з> сочетания двух мировоззрений — ​ таковая культура будет бесплодной». Далее следует небольшое эссе И. Чашника «К знаку современности», в котором автор пытается развить выдвинутый Малевичем принцип «эко49

номии» как универсальной категории, характеризующейся рациональностью и целесообразностью. Чашник рассуждает о неких знаках, характерных для каждого этапа развития человечества от древности к современности, и подводит к необходимости сложения «утилитарных единиц» в «общую целостную конструкцию изменений»: «Экономия выраженной единицы вносит совершенство целого и увлекает в новое ее преобразование. Чем экономичнее построен чертеж, тем совершеннее будет форма предмета и свободнее от пут эстетики. Человек проводит себя через путь сокращений, и потому каждая творческая форма строится на экономическом движении. Последнее должно стать заботой современности как чистая цель экономии знаков». С еще более кратким, но емким по содержанию наброском «О борьбе с эстетикой» выступил Л. Хидекель, который констатировал выход УНОВИСа к «созданию форм в пространстве или архитектуре супрематизма» и обосновал необходимость борьбы с «эстетикой», которая не дает развития «чисто утилитарным сложениям», «укрывает» свой­ства материалов и «загромождает ненужными украшениями» здания. В качестве примера чистоты формы и утилитарности приводится аэроплан. В этом же выпуске были помещены тезисы доклада В. Ермолаевой «Искусство и современность». Выступление датируется 12 декабря 1920 г., однако в прессе «дискуссия» относится к 13 декабря.26 Вера Михайловна утверждает, что в современности общество перешло в «наивысшее напряжение материальной культуры», которая осознана, найденные части сложены и «переданы к реализации». Достижение этого в политико-­экономической жизни произошло путем создания «социалистической коммуны», в искусстве тоже достигнуто «открытием кубизма». Дальнейшее развитие общества и искусства должно достигаться «культурой коллектива», который должен осуществить «единство с вещами мира, одухотворения их, включения себя в них и их в себя. В искусстве движение по пути, указанному супрематизмом, есть «новый путь к нашему постоянному религиозному образу через творчество движения». Сообщается, что выступавший в прениях Л. Юдин дал разъяснения по сущности кубизма, но представители секции ИЗО ответили нападками и обвинениями в адрес УНОВИСа, что показало их «полную неосведомленность в вопросе». Тезисы доклада В. Ермолаева иллюстрирует своей «Схемой развития современного искусства» в виде шкалы, разделенной на три части. В верхней части указываются даты и основные этапы в развитии искусства. ются графически. В нижней — ​перечисляются наиболее видные художники каждого этапа. Шкала начинается от «Достижений изобразительного искусства», хронологически — ​с 200 000 лет «до Рождества Христова» по 1908 г. «после Рождества Христова». Графически это изображается в виде заштрихованного круга, от которого лучами расходятся прямые линии, упирающиеся в вертикальную пунктирную черту, — ​ этап «кубистического анализа» 1910 г. В нижней части перечисляются художники: Пикассо, Глэз, Брак, Татлин, Малевич, Удальцова, Метценже. Далее линии сходятся в черном круге меньшего диаметра, находящемся на линии «кубистического синтеза» 1912 г. От круга идут нисходящие волнистые линии, соответствующие художникам: Пикассо (театр), Удальцова, Экстер (театр), Родченко. Вверх от круга отходит изображение, напоминающее обруб­ленный отросток, с надписью «Татлин». Линия супрематизма отходит от круга по баллистической траектории и упирается в черный квадрат, расположенный на вертикальной линии с надписью в средней части шкалы «Экономия», в верхней — ​ «1913 г. Новая супрематическая реальность». От квадрата расходятся линии с надписью между ними «Натурализм супрематического мира», которые в начальном движении пересекаются с линией — ​ «УНОВИС 1920 г.». Шкала иллюстрирует с позиции превосходства супрематизма и непростые отношения между художниками, стоявшими во главе направлений. «УНОВИС. II изд.», вероятно, задумывался как продолжение машинописного альманаха «УНОВИС № 1», однако в существенно меньшее по объему издание вошли статьи только молодых членов УНОВИСа. Моисей Кунин в статье «Партийность в искусстве», занимающей 8 из 18 страниц издания, утверждает необходимость всем, «в чьих жилах течет творческая кровь», объединиться в партию, чтобы противостоять препятствиям, чинимым «приверженцами старого». Кунин разделяет понятия «партия» и «направление»: «члены партии» работают «в одном направлении по одной программе»; приверженцы одного направления работают индивидуально, поэтому их работа «не продуктивна». Партия представляется наилучшей организацией для достижения целей: «Партия же проводит свои взгляды и построения КОЛЛЕКТИВНО, организованно и потому будет всегда идти впереди и диктовать всем свои убеждения и принципы в искусстве». Кунин ставит вопрос: «Нужна ли партия в искусстве, там, где оно должно быть свободным, творя-

щим и созидающим; должно ли оно быть связано известными законами партии, партийной дисциплиной и тем самым потерять необходимую ему свободу?». Положительно отвечая, молодой член УНОВИСа оправдывает это противодействием «класса художников», желающих воскресить академизм и «наши мысли о сооружениях нового мира, втиснуть в рамки уходящего и давно ушедшего мира», поэтому в «переходный революционный момент» необходимо организовываться в партию. Предвещая смерть художникам «вне партии и направления», Кунин называет УНОВИС первым наметившим себе «все основы новой культуры» и выбросившим знамя «организации партии, которой нужно создавать армию для реализации всех форм нового искусства». В заключение звучит призыв отказаться от принадлежностей «буржуазного ушедшего мира» (эстетических картинок, романтики сентиментализма, индивидуализма и «всего, всего, от чего несет психологией сытого, ожиревшего класса») и выйти на путь «творчества новых форм» вместе со «сплоченной партией УНОВИС». Следующие две статьи посвящены учебному процессу. В статье «УНОВИС в мастерских» Л. Хидекель утверждает, что с приходом УНОВИС исчезла «туманность» в работе и все мастерские ставят «определенные задачи» и решают их через «достигаемый опыт». Подмастерья прошли через «все основы живописных школ» (сезанизм, кубизм-­ футуризм, супрематизм), и дальше «уновистский метод» выводит на творческий путь создания «новой формы», «систематизирующей основой» которого является супрематизм. И в дальнейшем, наряду с инженером, агрономом и «рабочими всех специальностей», подмастерья послужат «силой для выражения будущей культуры»: «В оборудовании техническо-­электрического государства нет места художнику с его эстетическим хламом, а всякому творцу в будущем требуется участие в этой могучей и сильной культуре, которая надвигается в нашем коммунистическом государстве». Илья Чашник характеризует деятельность архитектурно-­т ехнического факультета — ​«горнило всех остальных факультетов училища «УНОВИС». Факультет был последним в процессе обучения и делился на архитектурное и техническое отделения. На первом изучали начертательный супрематизм — ​«конструирование и вмещение на земной площади всех присущих ей элементов, чертя те места и линии, от которых поднимутся и проскользнут в пространство формы супрематизма». Ко второму отделению относилась «материально-­техническая» часть мастерской — ​«здесь инженер, техник, астро-

ном, химик и математик, здесь составляются, отливаются и конструируются части организма, отсюда они выводятся, указывая миру свое совершенство». Наименее «политизированной» является статья Льва Юдина «О натюрморте». В ней автор пытается показать историю натюрморта, рассматривая ее «до кубизма» как борьбу «живописного напряжения» с чуждыми ему «формами реального мира предметов», которая закончилась «растворением» предметов в живописи. Относя к влиянию «традиции» трактовку кубистического натюрморта как «выявления внутреннего ритма предметов», Юдин видит творчество только в выявлении «ритма живописи»: «Только в последних стадиях кубизма предмет распыляется и являются произведения действительно живописные, построенные по своим собственным законам». Публикации в изданиях УНОВИСа не получили откликов в другой прессе. Однако в марте 1921 г. в Витебске начал издаваться журнал подотдела искусств и сорабиса «Искусство». Всего на протяжении марта — ​августа вышло номинально шесть номеров, но второй выпуск был сдвоенным — ​№№ 2–3, третий обозначен как №№ 4–6. Журнал предоставил более широкие возможности для распространения своих взглядов как для сторонников, так и для противников УНОВИСа. Казимир Малевич в первом номере журнала в статье «УНОВИС»27 популяризирует свой принцип «экономии»: «Экономия, как измерение, всегда революционна и никогда реакционна. Экономия — ​ ключ к единству. Наше творческое существо базирует на ней свои установления и согласованность всех радиусов движения форм жизни. Через нее существо личности вводится в смысл общности единства, становясь рукоятью системы общего действа». Малевич обвиняет «вождей экономическо-­ политических прав человека» в невнимании и пренебрежении к новому искусству, но в вой­не со старым должны встать «вожди нового искусства»: «Армии трудовых сил взроют материалы не для старых форм, а новых. Основываясь на этом действительном соответствии, пришли к творящему и утверждающему УНОВИСу, поставившему себе цели бороться за образ утилитарного нового миростроения». В рецензии на первый выпуск «Искусства» Соломон Мерлин (псевдоним «С. Лерман») посчитал невозможным по причине «недостатка места» в газетной статье говорить о сущности «мелкобуржуазного течения» УНОВИС, отметив безграмотность и «потусторонность» статьи Малевича, которые «нельзя объяснить никаким правом дискуссий». 28 Неизвестный рецензент в московском «Вестнике работников искусств», цитируя основоположника 51

супрематизма, приходит к выводу: «Трагедия супрематизма в том, что, апеллируя к будущему по поверхностному признаку отказа от старой формы, отказа от сюжетности, он в толще, в психической своей сути весь в прошлом, весь в субъективном индивидуализме, в экзотике интеллигентно-­группового бунтарства. Не больше».29 Несмотря на напористость риторики, членам УНОВИСа в итоге не удалось ­с колько-­н ибудь значительно расширить круг своих приверженцев. Новаторы в своей практике пытались использовать все возможности для пропаганды постулатов, основанных на взглядах К. Малевича как теоретика супрематизма. Отсюда публикации в местной прессе, попытки выпуска собственных изданий. Однако пафос экспериментаторства, декларирование программы преображения мира лишь отчасти нашли положительный отклик как в провинции, так и в «центре». Сформировавшийся еще до 1917 г. негативный образ футуриста, радикализм в неприятии достижений культуры прошлого и других направлений вызывают противодействие. Сложившаяся ситуация, наряду с ухудшением материального положения, привела к исходу из Витебска и поиску новых площадок и способов осуществления практики УНОВИСа.
