Welcome to the very first edition of our brand new community brochure! Too often people tell me they didn’t realise how many great programmes and activities Link4Life deliver in the heart of our communities, so I thought it was high time we brought it all together in one brochure.

Welcome

Welcome I’m really proud of our great leisure centres, which offer exceptional quality, professionalism and value for money but I am also really proud of the team that works in the heart of our communities. They help to reach the most vulnerable or excluded, whether keeping children active, healthy and fed in the school holidays or older people more active, mobile and socially connected, our small army makes a big difference every single day.

Link4Life is a local charity, committed to helping the residents of Rochdale Borough to be more active, creative and healthy, so remember there’s always help on hand to support you to be involved whatever your circumstances - just get in touch with us and we’ll take it from there.

Oh, and of course don’t forget, there’s lots more on offer at our great gyms, swimming pools, golf and water adventure centres, museum, art gallery, and live performance venues so just check us out online or pop in to one of our centres to pick up more information or have a natter.

Young People's Activities

Go4it Link4Life has a wide range of activities for children and young people which are spread across our centres in the Rochdale Borough.

These sessions, which run after school and during the holidays, go under the name of Go4it. Every time you see the Go4it logo there will be something going on for children and young people.

There is something for everyone with activities available to children of all ages from 0-15 years. Children can take part in lots of sports, fitness, swimming, fun and play activities each week and new for 2018 will be the Go4it Holiday Clubs so keep an eye out at your local Link4Life centres, visit our website or sign up to our Link4Life newsletter at link4life.org/health-wellbeing/children-young-people to make sure you don’t miss anything!

Young People's Activities

Doorstep Sports Clubs Doorstep Sport Clubs are informal sport sessions that anyone aged 11-19 living in Rochdale Borough can attend. The sessions are delivered by Link4Life community coaches, leisure centre staff and Rochdale Youth Service. There are a variety of sports and activities on offer each week. The sessions are a low cost and fun way of keeping active without having to commit to any long term leisure or sports club membership.

Inspired Sports Session

Go4it and Link4Life’s Inclusive holiday programme Sunsport have joined forces over the holidays and will be putting on sessions for disabled and non-disabled young people for two days a week. With fully qualified sports coaches and support workers delivering on the programme, this is a unique opportunity for children of all abilities to come together and have fun. Link4Life’s inclusive holiday sessions will once again take place over the school half term. There will be plenty of sports, games and activities on offer throughout the day. Suitable for children of all abilities aged 8-19 years.

This session invites young disabled people along with their friends and family to take part in a range of coached sport sessions. Selected weeks will involve guest club coaches, where participants have the opportunity to try sports provided by their local club providers. The activities are on a 6 weeks’ timetable which can be accessed through our Link4Life website and on our Facebook page.

Sunsport

Bridgeability

Sunsport provides sport and leisure activities for young disabled people during every school holiday. Sunsport runs every day in the school holidays: Mondays-Fridays, 10am-3.30pm, excluding Bank Holidays.

Football training for all!

All abilities welcome – we’ll be playing matches against other clubs.

All sessions are delivered by qualified coaches and supported by a team of support staff.

BridgeAbility is a football club linked to Bridge Junior Football Club & Link4Life.

It is open to all pupils with SEND in the area. Staff are fully trained Football coaches and have great experience in teaching pupils with a range of SEN. It’s all about getting out and enjoying playing football with other young footballers. There is the opportunity to play just for fun or play at a range of levels in competitive leagues.

A packed lunch needs to be provided

Age range: 8–19 years

Time: Training Thursday evenings 5pm-6pm

We offer a wide range of activities in various facilities across the borough including: Dance, Cricket, Rock Climbing, Canoeing, Fishing, Golf, Dodge Ball, Cheerleading and lots more.

Inclusive Young People's Activities

GoAbility This session runs on a Saturday 11am-2pm and includes climbing at Rock Over Climbing centre every week and mountain biking. These sessions have qualified instructors that deliver and run the sessions and will lead to attending BMC Paraclimbing competitions and learning parts of bikes and basic maintenance of a bike. You do not need any special equipment for these activities but if you have your own bike and would like to use it that’s perfectly fine but there will be access to mountain bikes.

There will be another group running alongside this that will be accessing clubs across the Borough of Rochdale like: fishing, boxing, water activities, fishing on the lake, Morris dancing, horse riding and lots more. For full details visit link4life.org or our Facebook page.

activ8teme activ8teme is a low cost, ‘pay-as-you-go’ programme for adults which has over 50 weekly fitness and sports sessions to choose from which are fun, friendly and sociable in the heart of the community. Most classes cost £1-£2.50 and welcome all ages and abilities so there is something for everyone.

Ab Attack A 45 minute conditioning class focusing on the core section of the body.

No Strings Badminton Guaranteed playing partner, equipment provided. Co-ordinator available.

Burn & Bounce This class helps burns both fat and calories and improves fitness levels. It is a combination of cardio, strength building and free weight exercises.

Over 50’s Sport & Fun Badminton, Short Tennis, Table Tennis, Swimming. Refreshments provided.

Cardio Club A fitness session in a darkened room, using glow sticks to music from the 90’s to current chart anthems.

Cardio Country A cardio workout featuring easy to follow dance steps, similar to Country Dancing and Zumba combined.

Pilates An exercise class to improve core strength, flexibility and posture.

Rebound A low impact workout on a mini-trampoline which increases muscle strength, improves posture, balance and co-ordination. Burns calories.

Cardio Country Basic Low impact dance exercise for beginners.

A weekly sports based fun session, playing a selection sports at a suitable level for all abilities, such as short tennis, badminton, boccia, table tennis, basketball. Aimed at improving fitness levels and regaining confidence.

Coaches to help you throughout, all abilities welcome!

This 10 week course is free thanks to funding from Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale Clinical Commissioning Group. The class will provide activities which promote postural stability and balance to assist greater independence and reduce the risk of falls in the future.

Inclusive Adult Activities Cycling Accessible Cycling has been running for over 6 years and is a very successful activity. We have a broad range of bikes including 3 wheelers, wheelchair accessible bikes, company bikes and side by side bikes. Wheelchair Rugby League Delivered by Rochdale Hornets Wheelchair Rugby League Club. A competitive and great fun sport. The team started April 2016. This session is accessible to anybody 18+. The idea is to build a team but also to provide an opportunity for people of all abilities to share a sporting environment and to build and strengthen relationships in the community. An open and informal session which provides a mixture of organised and non-organised activities enabling people to participate at a level that they feel comfortable with, for example sessions include basketball, football, boccia and cricket.

A very active drumming session run

by Paul Stokes with a large variety of drums and other percussion instruments. Paul provides lessons which then culminates in a big group performance at the end.

A professionally led session providing an opportunity to get in the pool and also strengthen your swimming. The swimming is provided in the main public pool so be aware of the temperature.

The Healthy Lifestyles Team offer 12 week nutrition and weight management programme for those with a BMI between 25-35. Designed to provide specialist information, motivation and support to encourage a sustainable improvement in lifestyle and wellbeing.

The Exercise Referral Service provides an exercise plan for people with acute and long term health conditions in the community, at a reduced cost. Our team of friendly exercise professionals will provide on-going support and guidance to help all our clients to achieve a healthier, more active lifestyle.

If you have a BMI between 30-35, you may be entitled to Slimming World or Weight Watchers vouchers for a trial period of time.
