Thankfully, it is not just a London based phenomenon, but most regions in the country are seeing an improvement. The Fylde Cost is no exception and at Fylde Law Solicitors, we are pleased to see this reflected in the number of client instructions.

Community funding up for grabs in Wyre A pot of cash is now available to fund community projects that will make a difference to local people or their surroundings.

Under Wyre Council’s Shaping Your Neighbourhood initiative, the borough has been split into six areas and each of these will be allocated £10,000 in 2014/15.

Bids for a share of the funding are now being accepted from community groups who can show that their idea will have a lasting and positive effect on their neighbourhood. The council is specifically looking for projects to address a local need, as identified in each of its locality plans.

Schemes that have benefited from previous Shaping Your Neighbourhood funding include a number of new children’s playgrounds, improvements to key footpaths in the rural area, refurbishment and improvements to community buildings and courses that bring families together.

Councillor Peter Gibson, Leader of Wyre Council, said: ‘Very often it’s little changes that make a huge difference to community life, so we’ve set aside this money specifically for projects just

The money is obviously a big bonus for the successful projects, but a key element of Shaping Your Neighbourhood is also to give our residents a real opportunity to get involved in local decision making. WYRE ARCHAEOLOGY Wyre Archaeology (WAG) offers a rare opportunity for anyone with an interest in the history of the Fylde Coast and North Preston areas to get hands on experience of practical archaeology through our regular programme of excavations and other activities.

Our 2013 BIG DIG found evidence of Iron Age, Roman and Early Mediaeval presence in the Thornton area and we’ll be following up these tantalising leads in future digs. In the 2014 season we also plan to investigate the elusive ‘Danes Pad’ and if you have an idea for a dig just get in touch. WAG is open to people of all ages and has previously provided practical experience for students going on to study for degrees in Archaeology. We’re keen to have new digging members but you’d be welcome whatever skill you might be able to bring at whatever level. We’re fully insured and we provide basic training and equipment.

We’re affiliated to the Council for British Archaeology and have strong links with local professionals in the field. We meet at Farmer Parr’s in Thornton on the 3rd Wednesday of each month, starting at 7.00pm, to keep everyone informed of activities and there are occasional guest speakers. MARSH MILL EVENTS Marsh Mill will be open at weekends and Bank Holidays from 10.30a.m. – 4.30p.m. with activities for children. You can try your hand on the hand quern. National Mills Weekend is 10th & 11th May when admission and tours to the top of the mill are FREE. There will be a special temporary exhibition of “Windmills on Maps” showing how many were landmarks, especially in navigation. The Kiln Gallery hosts changing displays by local artists with a new display opening on 11th May.
