Preston Grasshoppers Rugby Football Club Bonfire and Fireworks Display 5th November.

This is the largest and most popular bonfire night in the area and sells out every year. To avoid disappointment, online tickets are now available, so please purchase one to guarantee your place!

Online Ticket Sales at Skiddle 2014 saw another sell-out spectacular at Preston Grasshoppers Bonfire Night and Fireworks Display.

Hoppers General Manager Richard Ellis was delighted with the way the evening went, “It is a major operation for the club to safely put on the annual fireworks display and bonfire night. We had around 80 staff and volunteers who all worked extremely hard to make the evening enjoyable for the public and I would like to thank them all for their time and effort.”

The evening once again sold out with just over 4000 people attending. “We pre-sold 3300 tickets prior to the event, unfortunately we had to turn some people away once the capacity of the ground was reached.

If you buy a ticket in advance it guarantees entry to the event.”

Food and Bar will be available on the night.

A

campaign has been launched to promote Preston Markets during the run up to the redevelopment of the new market hall and throughout the building works.

The main campaign message is that Preston Markets is open for business and will remain so throughout the redevelopment process. The current market hall will not close until the new Indoor Market is built, and open and every effort will be made to minimise disruption to the Outdoor Market and Car Boot and Flea Market during that time.

The campaign includes radio sponsorship, bus adverts with Preston Bus, new signage around the market and an ongoing digital campaign. The market team has also been out and about welcoming new and returning students from UCLan. The first stage in the restoration of Preston’s historic Fish Market canopy was completed recently, with specialist investigation into the 90 year old structure.

Full refurbishment of the smaller covered market will commence in the New Year and forms the first stage of the markets redevelopment.

We have been operating in Preston for over 20 years (formed in Guild Year 1992) with 5 part time members of staff and volunteers we run a very efficient, low cost, but highly valued service. We help over 400 cases a year - over 800 people including many aged under 25 and dependent children, former homeless, people leaving prison or escaping domestic violence.

ARCHAEOLOGY If you’re interested in the history or prehistory of the Fylde Coast and North Preston areas then Wyre Archaeology Group (WAG) is worth a look. WAG offers a chance for everyone to get involved in practical archaeology, whatever their age, knowledge or skill level, through our programme of excavations and other activities. Offering basic training, essential equipment and free dig insurance for members. In previous years our Spring and Summer ‘Big Digs’ have found evidence of Iron Age, Roman and early mediaeval activity in the Fylde peninsula and this year’s digging season is just as promising. WAG is affiliated to the Council for British Archaeology and we have strong links with professionals in the field.

Regular meetings at Farmer Parr’s in Thornton on the 3rd Wednesday of every month (except November and January), starting at 7.00pm, where we keep up to date with activities and there are occasional guest speakers on relevant topics. Non-members may attend 2 meetings free of charge. You can join as a Full Member or, if you can’t get to meetings why not become an Associate Member.
