Mustard and Herb crusted best end of lamb with braised vegetables (Serves 4-6)
Ingredients:

Lancashire couple are poised to spring into action and make Blackpool the home of the biggest trampoline centre in the country. Allan and Sarah Bowness will be opening the doors to Ascent Trampoline Park on Monday 14th March. Their web site is already live and takings advance bookings now! The Trampoline Park ‘craze’ is currently sweeping through the UK and are the latest thing from America and at 40,000 sq ft Ascent Trampoline Park will be the biggest of its kind in the UK. The £800,000 project would feature more than 100 individual trampolines, a 3 lane dedicated Flip Zone, Dodgeball, Slam Dunk Basketball, giant Foam Pits and Air Bag, and even trampolines on the walls. Within the main park they also have a Ninja Assault Course – with a Gladiator Battle Beam, Balance Beam, Slack Line, Multi Height Raised Steps and Ladders. Allan said: “We are very excited about opening the doors to Ascent! Currently there are only a handful of

UK rents set to sky-rocket because of Osborne’s tax grab Landlords across the UK have already started to increase rents for current tenants as a consequence of George Osborne’s attack on the private rental sector (contained in Clause 24 of the Finance Bill). When a similar policy was adopted in Ireland in 1998, rents increased by almost 50% over the subsequent three years.

As a consequence, the deductibility of interest was quickly restored from 1st of January 2002, but not before the damage was done. In addition to tenants and private landlords suffering, the policy also had an extremely negative effect on construction levels, which fell drastically over the same period.
that this is also a discriminatory attack on the poorest in society? From now on, tenants who can pay the highest rents will be favoured as landlords will have to increase rents to the maximum (some commentators think landlords can’t do that; well they did in Ireland).
So when George Osborne announced this astonishing attack on landlords in July, we can only assume that neither he nor his advisers were aware that this same economic experiment had failed abysmally just across the water only a few years earlier.
Don’t these alleged champions of the poorest in society realise that the low-paid and tenants on housing benefit will suffer the most? Because of the limits on what they can afford, these will be the first to be evicted and placed in temporary accommodation at greater cost, both in financial and human terms.
A question remaining unanswered is therefore whether Clause 24 was a planned policy which the Conservatives kept secret from the electorate in order to trick landlords into voting for them OR was it dreamt up in a matter of weeks directly after the election.
Incredibly, the report by the Office for Budget Responsibility, which accompanied the Summer Budget took no account of tenants as an impacted group and also stated the policy was ‘not expected to have a significant impact on either house prices or rent levels…’
George Osborne was either deceitful or capricious. What is very clear, however, is that it is extremely illthought-out, or as the Director of the Institute of Fiscal Studies, Paul Johnson, said: ‘plain wrong.’
This is a preposterous statement.
The fact is that this ‘Alice in Wonderland tax’ is going to force hundreds of thousands of landlords to pass the tax on to their tenants where possible by increasing rents, just as happened in Ireland. And when rents can’t be increased to a level which still makes the business viable, landlords will be forced to evict and sell. In the meantime, the Government and Opposition continue to ignore the messages from landlords at Property118 and from other national landlord organisations, who have pointed out these inevitably disastrous consequences. Labour is providing no effective opposition, believing that if they attack landlords they support tenants. This has been illustrated in the approach of various Labour politicians, including the Labour MP, Siohain MacDonagh. It would appear that the parties are vying with each other to see who can be the most anti-landlord. A strange consensus seems to have arisen across all political parties and even in housing charities like Shelter, that potential first-time-buyers are the only group now to be valued or protected and again, they think that by attacking landlords they support first-time-buyers. Do they not realise that rent hikes (an inevitable effect of Clause 24) will make it more difficult for first-time-buyers to save for a deposit, just as happened in Ireland?
So my questions for the British Government are: Why would the effect of this policy be any different to the effect it had in Ireland? How does the Government expect rents not to increase while at the same time it is imposing a massive tax burden on landlords? It’s mad; it makes no sense and the logical consequence will be an exponential increase in rents. The experiment was short-lived in Ireland; but not before significant damage was done to the private rental sector. We ask that the UK Government stop and think and reverse this decision before it is too late. And a word of warning for George Osborne and Jeremy Corbyn for that matter: Don’t think you can simply introduce rent caps and force landlords into selling and/or bankruptcy if they start increasing rents to cover this outrageous tax change. Apart from the fact that, in the words of Assar Lindbeck, a Swedish economist and socialist: ‘….rent control appears to be the most efficient technique presently known to destroy a city—except for bombing,’ we will also take the Government to the European courts just as the Czech and Slovakian landlords did when their governments tried to introduce rent caps – and, like them, we will win.
As landlords, we are aware that very few people care about this discriminatory attack on us (the media and various groups have successfully demonised landlords for years now); however, can they not see

Food Preheat the oven to 180C/350F/Gas 4 and heat a heavy-based pan. Trim any excess fat from the lamb and cut into two equal sized pieces. Add the oil to the pan and then quickly sear the two pieces of lamb to seal in the juices. Mix the breadcrumbs and rosemary on a flat plate. Brush the fat side of the sealed lamb with the mustard and then roll it in the breadcrumb mixture to create crust. Arrange side-by-side in a roasting tin and roast for 25 minutes for pink lamb or longer if you prefer your meat well-done. When the lamb is cooked, transfer to a warm dish and leave to rest in a warm place for about 15 minutes. Meanwhile, prepare the braised vegetables. Place the carrots in a large pan with the new potatoes and baby turnips. Tip in the lentils and pour in 300ml (1/2 pint) of water.

Add the butter and sugar and bring to the boil, then boil fast for 20-25 minutes or until all of the vegetables and lentils are tender and the water has evaporated. Stir in the mint and red wine vinegar and cook for another few minutes to combine, stirring occasionally. Season to taste.
To make the gravy... heat the butter and tomato puree for one minute in a small pan. Add the red wine and cook for a few minutes or until reduced to a fifth of the original quantity. Pour in the stock and again reduce for about five minutes or until reduced to a fifth of the original quantity. Season to taste. Carve the lamb into individual cutlets. Spoon the braised vegetables onto warmed plates and arrange the lamb cutlets on top. Drizzle around the gravy to serve.

Film director, Philippe Mora and music legend Eric Clapton have joined forces to co-produce a very personal film – Three Days in Auschwitz – which details life and death in the Auschwitz concentration camp. As a Jew, born the year after the end of World War II, Philippe Mora was a second-generation holocaust survivor who lost eight members of his family at Auschwitz. Unaware for many years about the role his father played in the French Resistance and how his mother had evaded certain death at Auschwitz by one day, Philippe Mora takes us on a personal journey that many holocaust survivors have had to walk to try to come to terms with
the scale of inhumanity that the Nazis showed towards the Jews. From Melbourne to Paris and London, Mora traces the people who lived through the horrors of concentration camps and discovers how his own life was very nearly extinct before he was even born. As well as being a co-producer, Mora’s heartfelt film boasts a score which has been specially composed and performed by Eric Clapton. The haunting sound of Clapton’s guitar accompanying the train trucks ferrying thousands of Jews into their death on the rail tracks of Auschwitz is unforgettable, according to Mora, who has a long-standing friendship with Clapton that goes back to their days as flatmates around the Kings Road in Chelsea when Mora was a young artist and Clapton about to hit the big time in music.
