Classic scones with Sweet Eve Strawberries and cream This classic British summertime treat is served with beautiful British strawberries.
Preparation time: 5 minutes Cooking time: 15 minutes Makes 8 scones Youâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;ll need: 225g self-raising flour Pinch of salt 55g butter 25g caster sugar 150ml milk 1 free-range egg, beaten 400g punnet Sweet Eve strawberries Clotted or whipped cream to serve 14
Method: Preheat the oven to 220C. Lightly grease a baking sheet. Mix together the flour and salt and rub in the butter to form breadcrumbs. Stir in the sugar and then add the milk a bit at a time until a soft dough forms. Turn on to a floured surface and knead gently. Roll out to a depth of about 2cm. Using a 5cm cutter, stamp out rounds and place on the prepared baking sheet. Gently knead any remaining dough together, roll out and cut more scones.
Continue until all the dough is used. Using a pastry brush, lightly cover each scone with the beaten egg. Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes until well risen and golden. Meanwhile, slice the Sweet Eve strawberries and set aside. When the scones are ready, cool on a wire rack, then split and spread on a thick layer of cream. Help bring trams to South Fylde Trams to Lytham is a new group trying to bring trams to South Fylde
S
o why do we want this? Trams to Lytham have identified the following benefits of bringing trams to Lytham using the South Fylde Line:
• A more frequent rail service between Lytham and Squires Gate by trams due to double track, with trains possibly still using the line all the way to Blackpool South. (Potential for a faster train service from Lytham to Colne if some/all services terminate at Lytham) • Direct public transport links to Fleetwood (and Blackpool North station in the future which will provide many more rail services as an option), which are not currently in place, as well as better and faster links to Blackpool promenade and cleveleys. •The rolling stock of the South Fylde line will finally be modernised, and provide a greener and friendlier way to travel, and the capacity of the line may be increased significantly if the service is regular enough. • Part of South Fylde’s history will finally be restored, with trams possibly being a tourist attraction in themselves if heritage trams run a service to Lytham/St Annes. • A journey from Lytham Station to Fleetwood Ferry could take less than 1h 15, far quicker than any bus journey with transfers, and Lytham to Blackpool North would probably take about 30-40 minutes when this extension opens.
• Possibility of more stops on the line, making access to services easier and less walking for residents. • More tourists may chose to come to St Annes and Lytham from Blackpool, providing a boost to the local economy. • Cheaper fares, and passes would also be valid on buses, as well as trains if dual ticket schemes are introduced. • A more frequent service may help to take some of the traffic off busy roads (i.e. busses). • Some bus services that run similar routes may no longer be required, freeing them up for other routes that are needed (such as rural areas). • Possibility less noise pollution along the line running past residential areas. • Potential for transport inrerchange between bus, train and tram at Lytham. We believe residents would certainly benefit from our ideas.
