Lancashire couple are poised to spring into action and make Blackpool the home of the biggest trampoline centre in the country. Allan and Sarah Bowness will be opening the doors to Ascent Trampoline Park on Monday 14th March. Their web site is already live and takings advance bookings now! The Trampoline Park ‘craze’ is currently sweeping through the UK and are the latest thing from America and at 40,000 sq ft Ascent Trampoline Park will be the biggest of its kind in the UK. The £800,000 project would feature more than 100 individual trampolines, a 3 lane dedicated Flip Zone, Dodgeball, Slam Dunk Basketball, giant Foam Pits and Air Bag, and even trampolines on the walls. Within the main park they also have a Ninja Assault Course – with a Gladiator Battle Beam, Balance Beam, Slack Line, Multi Height Raised Steps and Ladders. Allan said: “We are very excited about opening the doors to Ascent! Currently there are only a handful of

these Trampoline Parks in the UK and Blackpool’s will be the largest offering the widest range of activities “There will also be many lifestyle benefits as trampolining is considered one of the healthiest types of exercise, and its fun as well.” Allan added “We will also be offering fitness classes for all ages and want to link up with gymnastics clubs and schools” Ascent will be catering for all ages from two years old upwards and it will be an all year round attraction. As well as Open Jumping there will be Children’s Parties / Fitness Classes / Toddler Classes and the Ascent Academy offering Trampoline & Gymnastic classes. When you’re all “Parked out!” there is also a Terraced Café overlooking the Trampoline area were you can enjoy hot and cold food with a hot drink. If you still want more fun there is also a dedicated Games Zone to expend more energy! They look forward to seeing you on the 14th March!

Blackpool’s Bowie Bootlegs Local acts band together for a night of David Bowie covers at Bootleg Social to raise money for Cancer Research UK this Easter Sunday
F
ollowing the tragic news of David Bowies departure from Earth last January after a battle with Cancer, the organisers of the recent ‘A Very Messy Christmas’ decided to put on another night of cover songs, this time the theme being the music of David Bowie, in hope of raising money for Cancer Research UK, this Easter Sunday at Blackpool’s Bootleg Social.

David Bowie is an artist whose influence can be heard in the work of a wide variety of musicians and bands, his passing has created a void in the musical landscape that may never be filled. The night has been organised not only as a way to celebrate the music of David Bowie but also a way to raise money for Cancer Research UK. This is the second time a night of David Bowie covers has been put on by the organiser, the first being a decade ago at the now defunct ‘Riffs’ music venue in South Shore. The night will see 14 of Blackpool’s finest musical acts converge to blast out interpretations of the Thin White Duke’s finest musical moments. Performing on the night are former members of the heavily Bowie influenced Goonies Never Say Die, who are re-uniting for one night to play an all cover set of Bowie hits from the late 70’s to early 80s era. The night also features Bowie laden sets from I Drink Therefore There’s Darkness, Kraul, Laura Catlow, Zauwie, Uncle Paul, Litterbug, Dischord, Du Pig, The Drop-out Wives, Paul Huson, Black Eddy, Stuart Penwarden and Empty Headed Heroes. Every band gets a three song set list, at least one must be a Bowie cover, this follows on from the recent success of the ‘A Very Messy Christmas’ evening last December. Spruce up for Layton Cemetery
A
n upgraded building is set to help partners keep Layton Cemetery looking spick and span.
Staff from Layton Cemetery have been working with Community Volunteers, along with low-level offenders from the Community Payback project to help keep the 22 acre cemetery clean and tidy. Through grass cutting, trimming the grass edges and picking up litter, the two teams have helped the cemetery to become “the best it’s been in 40 years”, according to one local councillor. And now works are set to begin to transform a decrepit old building into a break room facility for staff, as well as the volunteers and offenders. The old mortuary building at the side of the cemetery is being renovated with new floors, working electrics and a lick of paint, so that the workers have a place to shelter during their breaks. The work has started this week and is expected to be completed by March. The Community Volunteers are made up of adults with learning disabilities while Community Payback consists of low-level offenders carrying out manual work to improve the local area, under the supervision of Lancashire Probation Trust. Shaun Simpson, 45 is one of the Community Volunteers who loves helping at Layton Cemetery. 28
“I really enjoy it here – this is one of the best places in Blackpool. We do a lot of work around Mansfield Road and picking up rubbish to keep it tidy.” The work that both groups are carrying out has also been recognised by the local community. Layton ward councillor Martin Mitchell, said: “The workers have done a great job here and everybody is really impressed with the impact that they’re having. “Some Layton residents will have seen the community volunteers at Kingscote Park where they did a great job and it’s really good to see them making a difference here. “It’s a very large cemetery but it means a lot to people and I think that this is the best that it has looked in 40 years.” Fellow Layton councillor Kath Benson added: “I am delighted that The Community Volunteers and the Community Payback team have chosen to work in Layton Cemetery. “I have been contacted by several residents in Mansfield Road commenting on how clean and tidy the road is looking. “We have worked with both groups on several projects in Layton and have always been very impressed with the standard of work and the difference it has made for residents in Layton.”

£2.4 Million investment in the world famous Blackpool Tower

lackpool Council has today announced a rebranded flagship Harry Ramsden fish restaurant is to open at the Blackpool Tower complex this summer.
A Harry Ramsden restaurant and quick service outlet will be located in the space previously occupied by the Tower Lounge bar, complemented by a further eatery within the Tower complex. The operator of the restaurant will invest £2.0m into the venture with Blackpool Council contributing £0.4m toward building works. Councillor Mark Smith, Cabinet Member for Business and Economic Development said “We are delighted to be able to finally announce details of this important development. The private investment being made in Blackpool’s most prominent public asset and the jobs it creates is yet another demonstration of the steps the town has taken in creating a vibrant economy. “This is a clear message to potential developers – Blackpool is the town to invest in.”
The rebranded Northern Flagship of the world famous Harry Ramsden’s restaurant chain will create 100 new jobs, in addition to safeguarding 30 existing jobs in the town. It is the latest in a series of high class eateries to invest in Blackpool. Joe Teixeira, CEO of Harry Ramsden’s comments; “With the town continuing to attract record numbers of visitors, we believe the time is right to further invest in Blackpool. “We are delighted that, as a result of this decision, not only are jobs being secured but new jobs are being created. We are especially pleased that so many of the people currently working on the project are locally based, this in itself gives an immediate boost to the Blackpool economy.” The new Harry Ramsden’s menu will offer a greatly enhanced selection of options and the development will include state of the art information technology and social media installations, high class interior finishes and the Blackpool Tower quality standard exterior.
