OPEN THROUGHOUT £3.2 MILLION

INVESTMENT WORKS

This year Fleetwood Market is going through an exciting period of rejuvenation as we carry out significant improvement works to support its future as a key attraction in Wyre. The ongoing enhancement works are expected to continue through to the autumn.

As part of Wyre Council’s ambition to achieve net zero carbon emissions, grant funding of £1 million has been secured by the council from the Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme. This is allowing energy efficiency works at the market to be carried out, including the installation of renewable energy technologies and removing fossil fuel gas heating.

Wyre Council is also investing over £2 million to carry out repairs and reinstate the historic features of the nineteenth century Market Hall, partly funded by the High Streets Heritage Action Zone (HSHAZ) grant sourced from central government via Historic England (HE).

This will greatly improve the appearance of the market and ensure the continued life of the building through the delivery of significant enhancement works including the replacement of the main hall slate roof, windows and doors.

Fleetwood Museum opens for the 2023 season on Tuesday 4th April with new exciting exhibitions. We will then be open Tuesdays - Saturdays weekly 10.30am - 4pm till the end of November. There is a small admission charge to look round the museum galleries, but don't forget you can visit our Coffee House for a snack, taste the lovely coffee or look round the shop anytime we're open.

The Museum will also be open Easter Monday 10th April

The Book Shop, next to the museum, will be open Tuesdays - Saturdays 10.30am - 3.30pm for the sale of pre-owned books, majority priced at only 50p. each and to accept any book donations.

Our monthly talks in the upstairs Education room will commence on Wednesday 5th April at 2pm and the first talk of the season is by that well-known duo, the Historians of Fleetwood - Dick Gillingham and David Pearce. Their talk is 'Fish & Ships' - a light-hearted look back at Fleetwood's Fishing Industry.

The talk on Wednesday 3rd May at 2pm is 'Fleetwood in Photos - from Working Port to Freeport' by Eddie Hammill - a journey into Fleetwood's Dockland through Eddie's incredible photograph collection.

Friday 21st April 1pm - 3pm is our first Music afternoon of the season. Everyone welcome to bring along an instrument, sing, clap your hands or tap your feet.

Green ngers… the Alan Titchmarsh column

He’s a brilliant presenter, accomplished gardener, talented novelist, and all-round horticultural inspiration. This month, Alan Titchmarsh discusses the uniqueness and the survival of our gardens.

I always try to impress on people the fact that whether your garden is some elaborate flourish of colour and texture and shape, or just a bit

of grass and some simple shrubbery, absolutely everything about it is unique.

After all, that space has its own unique history - for some, the flowers in it are a present; they may even come from another country; they might remind us of a special occasion or an event or story. We may just have spotted them in the garden centre and gone from there.

The point is everything we have is full of memories and stories. The things we put in our gardens remind us of times in our lives, and when that garden is in full colour and full blossom in May, or in its full richness in autumn, or at some other point in the year, it creates and stimulates memories.

After all, gardening is private – it’s intimate. Simply decide what you’d like to grow – perhaps something you want to eat, or smell, or just look at. Buy the seeds and do it. Don’t even worry about the process, just try it out.

When it succeeds, do it again; and most importantly, when it fails, do it again too!
