Former Division I tennis player and Oregon high school tennis and basketball coach Todd Mansfield is in the midst of his first year as men’s tennis coach at Linfield, though he is far from a newcomer to the sport or the coaching profession.
Before arriving at Linfield, Manfield coached tennis at Oregon Episcopal School, Lincoln High School and Catlin Gabel School for 17 years, guiding numerous players to Division I and Division III college playing careers. In 2023, he was named Oregon Coach of the Year after guiding OES to its 11th state championship. He also assisted with the boys basketball program for six seasons, helping the Aardvarks capture their first state title in 2020.
A native of Seattle, Washington, Mansfield was a three-sport athlete at Lakeside High School. He starred in tennis as a three-time state finalist and individual state champion.
He continued his tennis career at Northwestern University for two seasons before a serious injury forced him to retire from competition.
After his playing career reached its conclusion, Mansfield turned to radio and television, where he became a local and national sports broadcaster for FSN-NW, calling Pac-10 football, basketball and baseball games, hosting pregame and postgame shows for the Portland Trail Blazers. He also provided live broadcasts of Colorado Rapids, Portland Timbers, the University of Denver hockey, basketball, lacrosse and gymnastics contests.
He also worked as a sports anchor and reporter for KDVR Fox 31 in Denver. It was there here he won his most prized award, “Best Lack of Hair on a TV Personality.”
Oregon State Beaver fans may remember his favorite journey to Omaha alongside Mike Parker to call OSU’s first national championships in baseball.
He recently completed a master’s degree from the University of Missouri in Positive Coaching and Athletic Leadership.
Mansfield and his wife, Laura, live in Portland. They have two sons, Drew (17) and Connor, is a rising junior soccer player at Skidmore College in New York.
During his free time, he enjoys fly fishing and tending beehives. He also invests in real estate to help those in need of affordable housing.
