I'm Lindsey Britten, an East Coast-based interior designer! After 10 years in the United States Marine Corps as a senior signals intelligence analyst, decided to make a career out of my love for all things design + build. lean on my military experience and work ethic to lead organized projects that deliver functional, timeless, and breathtaking interiors.
I was exposed to design at an early age, tagging along with my father, who was a custom-builder. Some of my earliest memories are helping with paint or choosing material for his homes, sparking my love for interiors. also learned the value of client relationships and how taking time to connect is essential to delivering a space tailored to their needs.
While studying for my B.F.A. in Interior Design at the Design Institute of San Diego, I began a sole-proprietership. Not only did I work directly with clients through the design process, but I also managed every aspect of the business including budgets and vendor managment. That experience provided me with the skills needed to now manage multi-million dollar projects in San Diego and the DC metro area working as a designer for award winning Design-Build Firms.
I have experience with a variety of projects and tools, specializing in large scale, full home interior remodels, exterior renovations, custom millwork designs, bathroom remodels, kitchen remodels, 3D renderings, Sketchup, AutoCad, Adobe Suite, and much more. I'd love to work with you!

This project was a complete gut and renovation of a San Diego family's kitchen. The top needs of the clients were to brighten the space, make the island a gathering space, and keep within a minimal budget. To maximize functionality of the space and to fit the clients lifestyle, we moved the gas range to the perimeter cabinetry and the plumbing to the island. This family loves to cook and gather in the kitchen. With two young children, we knew moving the cooktop away from the island was a necessity to keep those little hands safe.
The original footprint had a window centered on the new range wall. In order to keep the new beautiful range top and custom hood a focal point, we opted to install two new windows flanking either side of the centered range, to allow plenty of natural light to filter in.
To give the space height we took the new custom shaker cabinetry all the way up to the 9' ceilings and utilized a neutral palette with accents of warm wood to really make the space feel open and bright vs how dark it felt before! We used mixed metals on all the finishes to beautifully tie in some of the existing stainless appliances while cohesively adding a modern brass touch.
The kitchen was outdated, very "Tuscan" which was huge in Southern California in the early 2000's. It felt small and was very, very dark. The cabinets left a large gap of wasted space above to collect dust
- AutoCad to develop the floor plans, Construction Documentatio technical drawings, lighting and electrical plans, 2D elevations and custom cabinetry drawings
-Sketchup for 3D Modeling
- Lumion to create photorealistic renderings, -Adobe Photoshop for post processing edits showing the client their kitchen before it was ever built.
This beautiful 3000 square foot home underwent a complete transformation from the dated California Tuscan, builder grade status it was in, to a Contemporary neutral haven for the San Clemente Familly who lives there. The project began with the kitchen where we moved a window in order to extend the cabinetry, offering invaluable storage space along with a statement 10'-6" island. The Island was designed to cater to the families desires of gathering and entertaining in the kitchen and having a less formal dining area for meals with their 3 children. The project included complete remodels of 3 bathrooms, design of a mudroom at the homes entry, remodel of the existing stairway, remodel of the laundry room, remodel of the fireplace design, as well as replacing all of the flooring throughout the entire home to a beautiful wide plank, warm white oak, replacement of the ornate baseboard to a simplified shaker, removal of all crown molding, and replacement of all door and windows along with their casings to a simplified shaker style.
We utilized a neutral pallatte throughout with accents of wood and dark natural stone such as slate and terra cotta. The kitchen showcases a masterpiece of handmade morroccan zelige tile against a marble look quartz countertop. Another design highlight is the Master Bathroom feature of contrasting handmade terracotta tile throughout. The contrasting elements of the creamy white and distressed black tile alongside wood cabinetry gives the Master Bathroom a retreat-like feel.

The Master bathroom, covered in beige tile and cherry wood desperately needed to be transformed from its builder grade state into a spa like oasis where the owners could truly retreat to at the end of a long day.

This conceptual design created a unique residential interior with nods to both Modern and Parisian design elements for a remodel of a Classic Brownstone townhome in the Back Bay area of Boston, Massachusetts. Staying true to the home architecture and melding both clients diverse desired aethetics was the foundation of this concept. The "Parisian Fall" inspired color palette included earthy tones of pink, browns, oranges, and greens, as well as historical colors inspired by New England's history-- deep reds, dark blues, and shades of white. Restraint in the design allowed the abundance of custom wall paneling to be showcased throughout the residence. Architectural, interior and textural inspiration boards, adjacency diagramming and space planning began the schematic design phase of this remodel. The project included a whole home remodel to include 2.5 bathrooms (one meeting ADA requirements), kitchen, laudnry room, 3 bedrooms and an elevator as well as a full FF&E package.

Inspiration for this project was pulled from the history of Boston, a parisian aesthetic, antiquated ornate wall moldings, and subtle minimalism. The Architectural inspiration revolved around the Boston Back Back area, and surrounding Brownstones located on Newbury Street, Boston.

El Mirador Azul is a contemporary luxury resort located in Tulum, Mexico along the Riviera Maya. The design concept is focused on the importance of human experience, wellbeing and a deep connection to nature. Our design is built upon LEED sustainability principles, use of local raw materials and the celebration of Mayan history and culture. Upon our initial research, we found the sociopolitical climate of the area was being negatively effected due to surges in the population of tourists, 2.5-3kg of trash being produced daily and dumped in forests, greenwashing "Eco-Friendly" resorts furthering damage, and the pollution of local Cenotes, the only available freshwater to the region. Because of this, sustainability was a large component to our design decisions. To mitigate the damage being done in the area, El Mirador Azul incorporated LEED framework aspects such as sustainable sites, water efficiency, utilization of local sustainable materials, compose of waste, recycling of material and water, sustainable energy and atmosphere, and following fair trade and labor laws.
The design of El Mirador Azul will be a composition of beautiful raw, local materials, working in unity to bring the healing elements of nature inside. This will be done by the use of contrasting materials to emphasize contemporary and geometric lines and forms. A sheer balance of positive and negative space and symmetrical elements will provide a non clustered, minimalistic atmosphere. Leaving guests with the mental clarity to truly enhance the feeling of relaxation.
Statistics read that on average, 22 Veteran's commit suicide every single day. Of the 1.7 million Veteran's in the U.S., 41% seek treatment post service for mental health. Our Veterans suffer from depression, complex anxieties, military sexual trauma, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, and other mental illnesses which effect their every day lives. Holistix is a conceptual design for a PTSD recovery center for Veterans. Our design will embody the core elements of nature through an abundance of natural light, biophilia, integration of water in design, and natural, sustainable materials. Floor to ceiling windows will allow nature to be brought indoors, captivating the body, mind and spirit to a harmonistic state of being.
During the research and development phases of this project, a survey was given to 22 veterans. The results of this survey assisted in all design decisions and the shaping of the concept. The results of the survey indicated that the presence of nature, water, and naturalistic symbols had a noticable calming effect on the majority of the participants. The Survey also gave insight on the necessity of areas of refuge and that in the majority of participants, sleeping quarters being located close to an exit on the ground level was of high importance.
The concept for Holistix includes a large variety of on-site therappy treatments in both individual and group settings, such as talk therapy with licensed VA social workers and EMDR therapy, as well as holistic focused treatments of guided meditations, massage therapy, acupuncture, Reiki, yoga, and art therapies. Each space has been designed with holistic wellbeing and psychological impact in mind.
