HOW TO PULL A

SOIL SAMPLE

PENDLETON COUNTY

PULLING SAMPLES Gather equipment (soil probe, shovel or spade; plastic bucket; soil sample bags; marker/pen) Identify fields Use spade, shovel, or soil probe to pull 10-15 cores at a depth of 4"-6" in depth, randomly across each field., placing in bucket after each pull Mix those 10-15 cores together in bucket, place in provided sample bags (1 field/area per bag)

BAGGING AND LABELING Fill the provided Extension Soil Sample bags to fill line with 2 cups of dry soil. Roll down top and flip flaps to seal. Label the bag with your name and your own "Field ID" Label one bag with phone number Drop off samples to the Extension Office. Staff will assist with paperwork gathering additional field information (crop to be grown, previous crop, field usage, drainage, etc.) Soil Samples are FREE to Pendleton County Residents/Land-owners (*20 per year)

AWAIT RESULTS AND FOLLOW RECOMMENDATIONS Each soil result will have recommendations tailored to your soil and chosen crop of choice. Agent will call with preliminary information and subsequently mail hard copies via USPS Results typically take 2-4 weeks.
