Serve your community with your time and talents! The Lincolnwood Parks and Recreation Department relies on many different kinds of volunteers throughout the year to make its programs and special events successful.

On behalf of the Village of Lincolnwood Parks and Recreation Department, welcome to the autumn edition of our program guide. The Lincolnwood Parks and Recreation Department is committed to providing enjoyable, quality programs and attractive, safe facilities to promote the health, welfare and pleasure of all Lincolnwood residents, and we hope you will participate in the many fun programs and events we have planned for this fall.

NEW MEMBERS WELCOME!

With the cool, crisp temperatures, fall is the perfect time to get out and enjoy our thirteen beautiful parks before old man winter hits once again. From playgrounds, picnic facilities, tennis, basketball and volleyball courts, skateboarding park, disc golf, in-line skating rink, outdoor fitness equipment and walking and running paths, we have something for everyone. Staff has also been working diligently to prepare for the celebration of the 40th Anniversary of the Lincolnwood Turkey Trot on November 20, 2016. It’s hard to believe this family-friendly traditional event has been taking place since 1976, and you want to miss this special year.

You’ll also want to mark your calendars for our annual Touch-a-Truck event, which will be held behind the fire station on Saturday, September 10 from 10am-12pm. This event offers children the opportunity to sit in, touch, discover and safely explore their favorite big trucks. Our Family Fun Fest event will return to Centennial Park the following week on Sunday, September 18 from 1-3pm, offering free outdoor fun including kayaking, kites and games for the entire family. And finally, Pumpkins in Proesel Park will return on Saturday, October 22 from 1-3pm at the picnic shelter. A pumpkin bounce house, Halloween games and refreshments are sure to put you in the Halloween spirit!

According to a recent urban park study, the average American spends 93% of their life indoors; 87% in buildings and 6% in vehicles. In today’s hectic world, it’s easy to forget that taking time to enjoy each day is so important to our health and wellbeing. The Village of Lincolnwood Parks and Recreation Department strives to ensure every resident has the opportunity to experience outstanding recreational activities and park facilities that enhance quality of life by helping you stay healthy and fit, build relationships with family and friends and develop a sense of community pride. Ages: 6 years and under On your mark, get set, GO The Drumstick Dash is a highlight of the Turkey Trot for athletes 6 years of age and under. Children will be grouped in heats according to age. Photos with the famous Turkey Trot mascot will follow the race. Parents, remember your cameras! All preregistered racers will receive a long sleeve cotton T-shirt, finisher medal and a goody bag.

Community Center Rental PLANNING AN EVENT? WE HAVE THE PERFECT VENUE! The Lincolnwood Community Center is the perfect venue for your next party. The facility is ideal for meetings, family parties, birthdays, showers, and any other type of social gathering.

The Community Center features two indoor spaces. Choose from our large room, which provides a light, airy space that can accommodate up to 200 guests; or our small room, which provides a warm, intimate setting for up to 40. Both rooms feature hardwood floors perfect for dancing or socializing. For an additional fee, your guests will be able to enjoy our outdoor patio, complete with wrought iron patio tables and umbrellas, which can seat 16 and accommodate up to 35 guests.

This community-based basketball program is designed to serve all levels of players. The season begins with basketball evaluations in November and December, and then games are played January through March. Games are played at Niles North High School, Niles West High School, and the Weber Center in Skokie on Saturdays (girls) and Sundays (boys).

SW I M A ME R I C A

Ages: 5-15 This progressive learn-to-swim programs takes place at Niles West High School. Children will be assigned a group based on skill level, and will progress through the program as they achieve the goals for each level. All registration is processed through Skokie Park District. The Central Suburbarn League is a cooperative group that consists of Lincolnwood Parks and Recreation Department, Morton Grove Park District, Skokie Park District, Niles West High School and Niles North High School.

Afterschool Program

HOMEWORK HELP, ARTS & CRAFTS, ATHLETICS, & MORE! The Lincolnwood Parks and Recreation Department is pleased to partner with School District 74 to offer Club Kid, an afterschool program for Kindergarten–5th grades during the 2016-2017 school year. Club Kid provides fun, organized activities for the children after school in the Rutledge Hall Multipurpose Room. (Children from Todd Hall are walked to Rutledge Hall by Club Kid staff.) Half day programs are offered on School District 74 half days for an additional fee.

This well-rounded program features homework help, arts and crafts, athletics, and more. Club Kid follows the School District 74 calendar, meeting every day that school is in session.

LINCOLNWOOD INTERNATIONAL SOCCER ACADEMY Ages: 8-14 Join the Lincolnwood International Soccer Academy Fall Soccer Program! Led by a professional coaching staff, the goal of the academy is to help players of all levels improve their game in a fun and safe atmosphere that stresses respect and sportsmanship.

Team members will be taught the fundamentals of soccer, as well as technical and tactical skills through drills and scrimmages. Players will be challenged physically and mentally and kept active throughout the season.

Ages: 55 years + For older adults and seniors who want to stay healthy and independent, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) recommends four types of exercise. Strength exercises build muscle and increase metabolism which helps keep weight and blood sugar in check. Balance exercises build leg muscles which help prevent falls. Stretching gives you more freedom of movement and endurance exercises (walking, jogging, swimming, biking, etc.) increase your heart rate and breathing. AARP Defensive Driving Course Cars have changed. So have the traffic rules, driving conditions and the roads you travel everyday. By taking this course, you can expect to learn current rules of the road, defensive driving techniques and how to operate your vehicle more safely in today’s challenging driving environment. M-NASR serves children, teens and adults with physical, mental and emotional disabilities, their families and their community recreation agencies by providing a wide range of recreation and leisure programs for people of every age, talent and interest. M-NASR conducts programs year round. Special services include summer camps, special events and holiday trips, after-school and day off from school programs. Participants enjoy dances, organized clubs, dinners at local restaurants and the friendship and company of their peers, adding to the richness and joy of their lives in the process. M-NASR also offers inclusion services to those who need assistance to participate in programs offered by their park districts and/or recreation department. M-NASR operates several accessible vehicles and offers door-to-door transportation for many activities.

LIPONI FOUNDATION

The Liponi Foundation for Special Recreation was formed in 1990 to facilitate participation by children and adults with disabilities in recreation programs. The Foundation was named after the late Sam Liponi who was generous in his support of the Maine-Niles Association of Special Recreation and that work continues today through the efforts of the Foundation.

This not-for-profit, tax exempt body is governed by a board of trustees representing the communities that M-NASR serves: Des Plaines, Golf-Maine, Lincolnwood, Morton Grove, Niles, Park Ridge and Skokie.

REFUND POLICIES The Lincolnwood Parks and Recreation Department is committed to providing high quality recreation programs and services. We want everyone to be satisfied with their recreation experiences. If you are not completely satisfied with a program or service, please contact us as soon as possible.

GENERAL REFUNDS General refunds will be granted when requested five full working days before the start of a program. All refunds are subject to a 10% administrative fee and will be mailed in the form of a check within 4-6 weeks of your request. Charges cannot be reversed on credit cards.

WHAT HAPPENS ONCE A PROGRAM HAS STARTED? We do understand that there may be a time when the program you registered for didn’t match your needs. If that is the case, we encourage you to share your comments, ideas or suggestions for improvement as soon as possible. If we are unable to work through it together we will refund you for the classes not attended less a 10% administrative fee.

In the case of an illness, emergency or relocation Should you need to discontinue participation in a program due to an illness, emergency or relocation, we ask that you submit proof of relocation or a written medical explanation from a physician. Upon receipt we will refund you for the classes not attended less a 10% administrative fee.

LINCOLNWOOD INTERNATIONAL SOCCER ACADEMY REFUNDS: Refund request received prior to the second scrimmage will be processed. Refunds will be honored for practices and scrimmages not attended less a 10% administrative fee. No refunds will be granted after the second scrimmage each session.

DEPARTMENT CANCELLATION In the event a program does not reach minimum enrollment, the class may be cancelled with full refunds issued. The administrative fee does not apply in these instances.

RENTALS, BIRTHDAY PARTIES, ATHLETIC & PICNIC PERMITS If a rental is cancelled three weeks before the scheduled date, a full refund less a 10% administrative fee is issued. If a rental is canceled 20 days or less before the scheduled date, a 50% refund less a 10% administrative fee will be issued.

LINCOLNWOOD SOCIAL CLUB Refunds will be granted on a case-by-case basis. If a refund is granted, it will be subject to a 10% administrative fee and will also reect any charges already incurred by the Village (e.g., the ticket price, the cost of food, etc. ) If granted a refund, it will be received in the form of a check (4-6 week processing time) or a credit to be used toward a future program.

BROCHURE ERRORS Due to the large amount of information included in each seasonal brochure, errors may occur. There may be last minute changes in days and times of classes, registration requirements and fees once the brochure has gone to print.

PHOTO POLICY Photographs and videos are periodically taken of participants while they are engaged in programs, special events or enjoying the parks. Please be aware that these photos and videos may appear in local newspapers, Village publications, cable access program or on the Village website.

To complete your Park Passport and receive a free prize: 1. Register for the Park Passport Program at our office in Village Hall (or online) and pick up your free Park Passport.

2. Visit one or more Lincolnwood Parks and take time to enjoy.

3. Circle your activities on the park’s passport page and then take a selfie with each park sign.

4. Bring your park passport back to the Parks & Recreation office and show us your selfie(s)

by October 28 to get your passport pages stamped.
