THE FIRM

We are a design studio built on the rich foundation of India and informed by the expanse of the world. An initiative led by architects Dhawal Jain and Sheemantini Paik, ours is a culturally diverse team of experienced leaders and young designers with a body of work spanning across India, United States and Africa. Our team consists of individuals from various parts of the world, who work closely with us and inform our design processes and end-products. We operate in the fields of architecture, interiors, graphics, products, urbanism and research.

‘Liminal’ means relating to a transitional stage of a process.

MANAGEMENT TEAM

Having an experience of more than 35 years in the industry, Sahadev Paik is responsible for key administrative decisions at Liminal Design Studio. His expertise lies in liaisoning, management and finance. He is a Civil Engineer by qualification.

Having an experience of 30 years, he is responsible for construction side of the projects and has been involved with us since our inception. His expertise in construction is primary in all our design-build endeavours. He is a Civil Engineer and Interior Designer by qualification.

Having built his career bridging between construction and IT industry, Chirag’s skills has made our firm tech savvy and kept us up-to-date with the latest technologies. He has worked with MNC’s early in his career and is a Software Engineer by qualification.

His design knowledge and sensitivity of more than 35 years has been a strong backing for us during any project. His immaculate grip on codes, standards and bye-laws makes sure our design adhere to local conditions. He is an Architect by qualification.

Sheemantini Paik co-founded Liminal Design Studio. Born in the cultural capital of India, she holds a Masters in Architecture from Virginia Tech and a Bachelors in Architecture from Jadavpur University. She has 4 years of experience spanning across India and USA.

Dhawal Jain co-founded Liminal Design Studio. He has an experience of more than 6 years in the industry. His built projects currently span across 3 continents; Asia, Africa and the USA He has done his Masters in Architecture from Virginia Tech, USA

Drawing experience from various well renowned firms industry wide, we strongly believe in Collaboration. The project ‘House Under a Pool’ was worked on by our Founder Dhawal Jain, where he was the project Architect working with the firm ‘Shroffleon’. The project won several national and international awards, along with getting published in various magazines.

RESIDENTIAL

Student housing projects are an opportunity to establish a close knit community among students and offer them ample amenities to supplement a home away from home. A good balance of private and interactive spaces is key in these projects. A vibrant podium with various activities and a communal space in all residential floors bring this development to life.

Designing single family homes are all about creating an infrastructure of an enriching life. We approach to make that happen by picking clues and signs from the site and its surroundings. We’ve found clients to be more satisfied with projects that work hand in hand with constraints than go against them.

This house lets us play with one of the most primitive exercises in architecture: Compression and Release. One enters the space at a human scale and gradually loses himself/herself to a well of light that takes them from introspection to enlightenment. It builds from the ground up as an experience of concealing and revealing.

Nature is an indispensable part of Human recovery and centered to that very thought, our designs evolve. Biophilic designs have been at our core while working on healthcare and clinic projects. Healthcare design involves specialization and having worked with two of global healthcare design giants, we have an expertise in this field.
