Prologue

Architecture is the best vehicle for the interaction between people and space. When designing, we should not only pay attention to human behavior, but also study the mystery of the architectural space, pay attention to the social situation in which it is located, and actively explore ways for architecture to deal with various problems.

Milan Social Housing Design

Type:Individual Course Work(Architecture Design(5))

Theme:Sustainable Architecture Design

Instructor: Xuan Ma

Location: Milan, Italy

Design Duration: Mar.2022 - Jun.2022

Software Used:Rhino,Ps,Ai,Open street map

This project aims to propose solutions to the challenges faced by refugees in Europe by integrating their housing demand, public activity needs, and social security concerns into the housing complex. In recent years, the constant turmoil in North Africa and the Middle East has led to the displacement of refugees, who are facing problems such as hunger and poverty. As a result, refugees have fled their homes and migrated to Europe to seek safety, while the arrival of refugees has also affected the survival of local populations, which has made the resolution of the refugee problem and the conflict between local populations one of the most important issues in Europe today. The project is located in Milan, where the refugee problem is the most serious in Europe, and solves the refugee housing problem through the design and construction of affordable housing. At the same time, it creates farmland and manufacturing facilities within the community so that the refugees can live in the community and, at the same time, farm and plant Milan's local crops, produce, package, and sell them to obtain economic benefits. Meanwhile, it solves the problem of refugees' work and theatre residence and work promotes the overall economic development of the society and solves social problems.

Summer Time Rendering

Type: Group work, Academic Work

Role in Team: Concept proposal 70% ,Modeling 50% ,Complete drawings 90%

Location: Hitojima, Wakayama City, Wakayama Prefecture

Design Duration: Jul.2022 - Sep.2022

Software Used:Rhino,Grasshooper,Ps,Ai

The project is developed against the backdrop of the Japanese manga ‘Summer Time Rendering’. The story takes place in Hitojima, Wakayama City, Wakayama Prefecture, and tells a series of bazaar stories that occur when the main character Shinpei Ajiro, returns to his hometown to attend his childhood friend, Arkashio’s funeral. A new epidemic called ‘Shadow Disease’ has emerged on the island. It can replicate people after retrieving information, and the replicated shadow kills the original person. After the emergence of a great number of shadows, people are constantly attacked and killed. In this extreme case, people have to flee the island and live under the sea next to it. Shinpei Learns from the ‘replication’ ability from of the shadows, and leads people to make architectural replicas, building a comprehensive city in the sea that combines living, defense, research, logistics and energy production. In terms of construction, the use of discrete theory for the random combination of architectural unit space, in the four functional areas of living, research, energy, logistics, with 8 as the basic modulus, the design of different types of spatial modules, but also deformable, set up the connection points between individual blocks, the preparation of the rules of the connection, the connection of the points and surfaces, and the connection of the points and the body, to form a continuous, orderly and reasonable spatial order, and to achieve the rationality between algorithmic architecture and idealized human required functions.

The undersea city has become a safe heaven for the residents of Hitojima lsland to avoid the attacks of the shadows and to live a normal life. However, some of the shadows still sneak under the sea, attacking humans and taking over the city. At this moment, Shinpei Ajiro is leading the residents of Hitojima island to fight together.

Logistics Laboratory

Type:Individual Course Work

Theme:Topological Exploration Based on 3D Graphic Statics

Design Duration: Oct.2023 - Dec.2023

Software Involved:Rhino,Grasshooper,Ps,Ai,Vray

The graphic statics originated during the internal revolution, and as the discipline continued to evolve, graphics evolved as an aid to structural analysis, visually representing the distribution of structural internal forces, while being used to add both the overall structure and the surface disconcentrated structure. This project aims to apply graphic statics to parametric design, through the use of Rhino software and Grasshooper plugins. Explore the relationship between form and force in the threedimensional mechanics most suitable for this project, and find the optimal solution of force.

16

Based on the Ranking equilibrium principle it can be learnt that the balance of external forces at a single node in an equilibrium structure can be represented by a closed polyhedron, from which the above three dimensional structure can be deduced:

(a) The intersection of planes perpendicular to the force is starting from a point or a line.

(b) The intersection of the normal planes of the external forces encloses the closed polyhedron and constitutes a system of equilibrium.

(c)The length of the pipe in the diagram expresses the magnitude of the reaction force, and the magnitude of each force is calculated from the area of the corresponding closed polyhedron.

House of Light and Shadow

Type:Individual Course Work(Architecure Design(6))

Instructor:Xuan Ma

Location: Jeddah City, Mecca Province, Saudi Arabia

Design Duration: Dec.2023 - Jan.2024

Software Involved:Rhino,Grasshooper,Ps,Ai,Vray

The project is located in Jeddah City, Mecca Province, Saudi Arabia, bordering the Red Sea. The site's perimeter is open, and the site is heavily lit due to the local climate influences. The focus of this project is to study how to skillfully use natural light to illuminate the building without creating additional artificial light sources, and to form enlightened light and shadow changes in the internal space. The project develops based on research into the evolution of traditional housing forms in the Middle East, with an in-depth study of natural light and contrasts of light and shadow in the region.

21

Light is the true shaper of space.Subtle, rich, elusive mystery, it is the continuous change of light that shapes the rich effect of space. It has different states of cold and warmth, and there are also different expressions of strong and soft.

Light should all come from the skylight of the roof.Uniquely, however, a continuous ceiling panel is added under the skylight, allowing all light to enter through multiple reflections.

The right-angled side of the recessed corner window adds an inflection line to soften the sense of architecture .

The oval building opens side windows. The building itself has no color and tends to be gray. When the light shines, the windows reflect the changing colors of the sky.The walls inside the building also change to different colors.

The site is located in Jeddah City, Mecca Province, Saudi Arabia. It is 100 km east of the Red Sea coast and 64 km west of Mecca. It is close to an eco-zoo and a forest resort.

Site Analysis Environment Analysis Road Analysis Flat

The centrally positioned courtyard, surrounded by dwelling spaces, constitutes the most common form of courtyard houses.

An U-shaped courtyard, where spaces surround the courtyard on only three sides.

An L-shaped courtyard, where in the courtyard occupies one corner of the building.

The courtyard is divided into two parts, corresponding to the need for segregation between the private and public entrances into the house.
