WelCoMe to the 2014 National Conference & Business Fair: JOIN FORCES. SUCCEED TOGETHER. Dear Colleagues, Welcome to WBENC’s 15th Annual National Conference & Business Fair (NCBF) in historic Philadelphia, PA. Our theme of “Join Forces. Succeed Together.” has come to life in this city through many iconic events, including the signing of the Declaration of Independence and the United States Constitution. Philadelphia will be the perfect backdrop for a week of high energy networking, relationship building, learning, and recognizing individuals who have contributed to our success and history. The event is being held June 23rd – 25th at the Pennsylvania Convention Center and hosted by the Women’s Business Enterprise Council PA-DE-sNJ and its WBE Host Committee. They are excited to host the WBENC Conference and are prepared to make this a rewarding and memorable experience for each and every one of you. This conference is the largest event for WBEs in the U.S. and we are expecting record breaking attendance this year as we gather in the city of many “firsts” including the first American flag to be created; The Philadelphia Academy of Fine Arts was the first museum in the United States; The first United States Mint; The first library, The Library Company of Philadelphia; The nation’s first university, The University of Pennsylvania; and The Philadelphia Zoo is America's first public zoo. Over the three day conference there will be rich programming, targeted matchmaking and an abundance of networking opportunities. The numerous workshop sessions focus on capacity building, honing and building skills, and leveraging the extensive expertise that we have in our community. The Business Fair will have more than 300 Corporate, Government, and WBE exhibitors showcasing their brands, products and services all under one roof – ready and eager to discuss their capabilities and opportunities with all attendees. The 2014 National Conference and Business Fair is a catalyst for growth and opportunity for all of our constituents. This event underscores WBENC’s CORE values (Certification, Opportunities, Resources and Engagement) and fuels our collective mission of advancing women’s business development. Join Forces with all of us in Philadelphia and we will Succeed Together – mark your calendars and we will see you in June! about wbenc The Women’s Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC), founded in 1997, is the largest third-party certifier of businesses owned, controlled, and operated by women in the United States. WBENC, a national 501(c)(3) nonprofit, partners with 14 Regional Partner Organizations (RPOs) to provide its world-class standard of certification to women-owned businesses throughout the country. WBENC is also the nation’s leading advocate of women-owned businesses as suppliers to America’s corporations. WBENC certification for women business owners is a rigorous, multi-faceted business application and review process that is conducted by a trained Certification Review Committee to ensure that women-owned businesses applying for certification are at least 51 percent owned, operated, and controlled by a woman or group of women. Throughout the year WBENC and the RPOs provide opportunities for interactions between more than 500 Corporate and Government Members and over 12,000 Certified WBEs. Our “Join Forces. Succeed Together.” theme underscores the need to strengthen our partnerships not only with our valued Corporate and Government Members but also between our certified WBEs. This joining of forces across all constituents is critical to our collective success, which will result in fueling economic growth by opening up new channels of revenue and creating jobs across both the public and private sector.

Program focus WBENC Certification validates that a business is 51 percent or more owned, operated, and controlled by one or more women. During the National Conference & Business Fair take advantage of many of the benefits of certification including attending One on One MatchMaking (if you register as a WBENC-Certified WBE for a full conference admission by the early bird deadline) or exhibiting at the Business Fair. Be sure to attend one of the sessions focused on leveraging your WBENC certification and maximizing our resources and network.

C

Opportunities at the National Conference & Business Fair include workshops that focus on building and honing skills; leveraging expertise; and building capacity will provide an interactive experience for our attendees to capitalize on the wealth of expertise our community has to offer. Attend sessions where you can learn best practices on everything from creating and managing your personal brand to creating a disaster recovery plan or even working with Millennials.

O

Resources are provided throughout the National Conference & Business Fair to address the challenges and barriers that women business owners face in doing business in the marketplace. Networking events and the Business Fair focus on connecting Corporate and Government Members with WBEs. Interactive sessions on best practices in Supplier Diversity help our Corporate and Government Members evolve their programs and incorporate WBEs in their supply chains. WBENC’s Ambassadors will be present throughout to help ensure that others are fully leveraging WBENC’s resources to build stronger Supplier Diversity programs.

R

Recognition is a catalyst for engagement which encourages both existing and new members and WBEs to strengthen their commitment to our collective goal of advancing women’s business development. During the National Conference & Business Fair, WBENC announces the winners of the Applause Award which recognizes exceptional accomplishments that expand opportunities for Women’s Business Enterprises and the William J. Alcorn Leadership Award which recognizes exemplary leadership contributions made by individuals in support of WBENC’s mission to open the doors of opportunity in corporate contracting to certified Women’s Business Enterprises (WBEs), the highest honor given to an individual at WBENC.
