INTERVIEW WITH

SHKINA HALBERT

Introduce yourself to our readers: My name is Shkina Halbert and I am a faux finisher/ decorative artist. As a child, I knew I was going to become this big-time lawyer. I never in a thousand years thought I would become a decorative painter, finding so much enjoyment out of elevating and transforming spaces for my clients. I had no idea what this was going to turn into, but I know I wouldn’t trade this amazing experience for anything. Tell us about Pure Poise Faux Decor: When asked to describe my talent, I will tell you simply, “I’m a designer.” But when pressed to expound, it is easy to see the passion I have for decorative painting. As a decorative painter, I have to bring a lot of the clients’ character to each project. Creating the perfect design requires research, planning and even relationship building. I am part engineer, part builder, and part project manager. But at my core, I’m an artist. And like any artist, I want my designs to make my clients as happy as they make me. Pure Poise Faux Décor was established to offer clients unique and elegant faux finish services for any room, home or business. Pure Poise delivers a fresh, modern look, with designs to fit any budget. We use only the best materials including a variety of textures, Venetian plasters, Metallic plasters, Lusterstone, paints, stencils and gold/silver leafing. What has been one of the most exciting moments while pursuing your passion? The most exciting moment while pursing my passion thus far has been learning new techniques at the decorative workshops I’ve attended, then applying the techniques in the field as I’ve continued to build my portfolio. The workshops I attend give me the confidence I need to tackle real projects and scenarios. In this industry, the key to achieving professional results is starting with the right foundation and the right techniques. The workshops also keep me aware of my competition and what I need to do to stand out from others in this industry. What is next for you in the New Year? In the coming year, I look forward to building a stronger client base, securing some huge contracts, and to keep building my design portfolio. How can readers connect with you online/social media? Please visit my website at www.purepoisefauxdecor.com Email: info@purepoisefauxdecor.com | Etsy: Pure Poise Faux Décor | IG: purepoisefauxdecor Facebook: Pure Poise Faux Décor | YouTube: Pure Poise Faux Décor

INTERVIEW WITH

SHERKICA MILLER-MCINTYRE Introduce yourself and profession to our readers: I am by profession a Licensed Realtor in North and South Carolina and have successfully owned and operated for 13 years a Real Estate and Property Management firm. However, I not only assist clients with brokerage services, I passionately focus on educating clients on budgeting, savings, credit counseling and how to build, maintain and consistently create wealth through real estate.

I have been married to my best friend, Gary for 17 years and a mother of 4 amazing children. I love to travel, binge-watch Netflix and thoroughly enjoy eating all types of food. I have recently found a new passion in adult coloring books for relaxation. What inspired you to pursue this area of interest? My own experience buying my first home and initial investment properties were the initial inspirations. I desired to share the positives and help others avoid the pitfalls of the buying process. I realized the income opportunity real estate sales offered as well as the ability to “own my own time." These two factors led to my transition from corporate America 14 years ago and I have never looked back. I also have a servant’s heart and I found that working with clients to pursue their real estate goals has allowed me to merge my passion with my purpose. I find that my career is my way of merging my ministry and profession as I work with clients to overcome the fear of pursuing their real estate dreams. Witnessing my DIVA clients excel is what keeps me motivated to continue to empower, encourage and enrich others. What 2-3 tips would you share with our readers as it relates to entrepreneurship? 1) Pray that your passion aligns with your purpose and that you can learn how to make it profitable. 2) Do not spend time trying to reinvent the wheel, seek wisdom, resources and best practices from those that are succeeding in your area of business. 3) Learn to implement strategies that actually work, and not what “looks good” 4) Use your expertise to create multiple income streams from one source. What is next for your brand in 2019? In 2019, we have a full schedule in the works for the 1st quarter with the annual DIVAS Dream Bigger Vision Board Party in January, the Signature Program- 90 Day Buyer Readiness Program Winter launch in February and the DIVAS Dream Bigger Empowerment Conference in March! Please subscribe to www.divasdoingrealestate.com to join the DIVA Tribe and stay connected and updated! INTERVIEW WITH

LATOSHA ROBINSON

Introduce yourself and business to our readers: I am Latosha Robinson the Owner of Lace Me Wigs, an online Hair and Wig Boutique. I started Lace Me Wigs as a way to reconnect with one of my past passions. Due to my mother having arthritis and joint problems that prevented her being able to do my hair, I had to learn on my own at a very young age. Thankfully it came natural to me. Braids, curls, ponytails, everything you can image I was able to do simply from watching others. Eventually, I grew into a hair extension connoisseur but ultimately ended up working in Technology for six years before starting my wig line. The knowledge that I have when it comes to hair extensions as well as customer service has become my staple. Although I create custom lace wigs I like to think that I am providing much more than a new hair style. I have been able to connect with so many women that simply feel like they have lost their sense of selfworth due to losing their hair. My goal is to provide high-quality hair products that give each women being “laced” another chance at feeling loved and in control. Read my reviews! I keep a very high level of communication and transparency with my Lace Me’ s. My passion for creating value and empowering women has blossomed into my company’s commitment.

What inspired your interest in the beauty industry? I can’t think of another industry with more power over the way we see ourselves. Brands with enough reach have the ability to transform how we look and feel. I wanted to put some of that power back into wig wears hands. I give women the opportunity to redefine how they see themselves by creating a wig their proud to wear. What advice do you have for new hairpreneurs? My advice would be the same for all entrepreneurs; start small, think big and be mindful of how you structure your business. If your ultimate goal is freedom, your business has to be scalable and you will eventually need help. You can do a lot of things on your own but grow your idea into a thriving, self-sustainable business is not one of them. Sooner or later you will burn yourself out or you will hit a wall. Collaborations and business partners are key. You will also need time away from your business. Tunnel vision can be great but solitude and separation are the keys to creativity. What is next for your business in 2019? 2019 will be the year I combine my love for technology and hair in a way that hasn’t been done before. One of the concerns I always here from customers and budding hairpreneurs is a lack of trust on both sides. I believe technology can fix this. How can readers connect with you online and through social media? IG: @lacemewigs | Website: https://www.etsy.com/shop/LaceMeWigs Email: lacemewigs@gmail.com

DR. RENEE SUNDAY

INTERVIEW WITH

At her core, Dr. Renee Sunday is a humanitarian with a servant’s heart. Her inspiration comes from helping others, no matter where they are in life or who they are. And while some would look at her life now and figure that she has everything together, that hasn’t always been the case. Her story and the life lessons she’s learned have been numerous; yet, they’ve always afforded her the opportunity to help others and infect them with one word: BELIEVE! She was a great student in her younger years and always pushed herself to focus and make great grades. Although she was often taunted and teased for her tall stature and slim frame, she remained engrossed in her future. Obviously, it worked because she has been voted one of the “100 Top Anesthesiologists” in the country, via the Consumer’s Research Council of America. This has been an honor she’s received more than once. And because of her focus and perseverance, she wears many hats, including: Media Coach, Self-Help and Motivational Speaker, Grief & Loss Counselor, and Ordained Minister. As life has been known to do, a major curve ball was thrown one day. And Dr. Sunday went from a 6-figure income to nothing, at no fault of hers. However, she now realizes that this set back was merely a set up for an even greater comeback! So in her hitting rock bottom, she actually was able to get back to the foundation within herself that had been overlooked for so long. And from that moment on, she learned how to TRUST and BELIEVE! For her, giving up was NEVER an option. So when the economy took a nosedive in 2008, she decided to create her own economy. Today, she successfully runs and operates several business entities: Sunday's Publishing, Good Deeds Media Network (radio and magazine), and R.S. Commerce, P.C. She also provides media coaching and consulting services, along with traveling the world with ministry and motivational speaking endeavors. Renee Sunday Enterprises is equivalent to a tree with deep roots and many branches. It genuinely encompasses all of the gifts that I’ve been allowed to share with the world, to date. But it also leaves room for anything else that I may be blessed to birth in the future. So right now, RSE is like the substratum for all that I do, which includes: Sunday Publishing, Sunday Foundation, R.S. Commerce, P.C., Be Seen-Be Heard-Get Paid, Good Deeds Radio & TV, and the list goes on. So to sum it up, the idea was to get planted and branch out. I’ve always been willing to learn from those who have been where I am and have surpassed where I’m headed. This allows me to always bring my “A game” and help clients the way I’m supposed to. Sometimes, we can get caught up on competition instead of seeing how we can learn from others. So when I get to meet someone who is successful in where I want success, I allow God to open the door for a connection. This has allowed me to meet some very influential people, who’s wisdom and walk have challenged me to stay on top of my game. [www.ReneeSunday.com]

JANELLE JAMES

INTERVIEW WITH

Introduce yourself and profession to our readers: I am Janelle James, a serial entrepreneur, who dabbles in a number of industries. I am a wife and a mother of five. I have all boys. By day, I am a computer engineer for a large enterprise. I am a transportation company owner and operator, business consultant, real estate investor, and hard money lender, amongst a few other things. Also, a veteran of the United States Army, I went to war at the age of 18. Deployed to Iraq for Operation Iraqi freedom. I would consider myself a philanthropist. I often do charitable work and assist individual families. This is my ultimate goal, to focus 100% on charitable work. Out of all the things that I do and have done in my life charity brings me the most joy. It’s what I’m most passionate about. Personally, I love to travel and spend time with my family. I am a jokester. Love making people laugh, love making people smile, love teaching, and pouring into others. What inspired you to pursue this area of interest? I have so many trades and business interests because I only recently discovered what I am passionate about. Caring for others, giving back to others, making the world a better place, leading women into independence, and helping them discover their leadership skills... that’s my passion. My inspiration though, stems 100% from the hustle within me. I love to hustle and get things done. I love to prove people wrong and surprise people with the things that I’m able to accomplish. What 2-3 tips would you share with our readers as it relates to entrepreneurship? So, tip number one for me would be to understand who you are as a person. Understand what you are good at, or passionate about, or what makes you happy. Doing what you love will drive you if nothing else will. Become acquainted and comfortable with yourself. Understand your worth & maintain your value by always continuing to learn and continuing to grow. Any genius knows that you will never stop learning. This is how you maintain your value by continuously pouring into yourself. Find like-minded people who share your vision for success. They may or may not be in the same interest or the same industry but they need to share your drive, they need to share your passion for success. Become a problem solver. All business owners are problem solvers. I don’t know a business owner that dwells too long on a challenge. They don’t make excuses, they address the challenge head-on, they figure out a plan, they gather resources, and they attack the challenge. Become a problem solver! What is next for your brand in 2018/2019? I would like to mainly become the host of my own seminar series, where I go across the country helping people who wish to become business owners, understand where they should begin, and how to start. Giving them tools and tricks or just a jumpstart at becoming an entrepreneur. I’d like to take my brand nationwide and also focus a bit more on my passion for charity. How can readers connect with you online and on social media? www.janellethemogul.com | Instagram: @primped_npoised | Facebook: Janelle James

QUADEERA TEART INTERVIEW WITH

Introduce yourself and brand to our readers: I am Quadeera Teart, Brand Engineer for brands with women-centered products and services, and Creative Coach to female entrepreneurs of color. I have been an entrepreneur for over 10 years Tell us about the new series “Shifting from where you are to where you want to be" There are so many of us trying to get these things we want: money, cars, homes, relationships, and perfect bodies. But the thing is, we just try, we don't really embody what we want. The Shift is about embodying that which you desire. I am sharing the practices, tools, and steps that I use to take myself from where I am no longer happy --to the space that brings me joy and prosperity. What tip would you share with readers for making the shift? Stillness. As a teenager my mom always told me to slow down Quadeera, you're doing too much, you're not listening, your body and mind need to rest. I understand what she meant now. When we get quiet, we can hear that which speaks only in stillness and in peace. All things creative, abundant, and prosperous come out of the stillness (the nothingness). So even if it is for ten minutes a day, be quiet and be still! How can readers connect with you online? I would start with Instagram @quadeerateart, and then visit my websites: www.QuadeeraTeart.com and www.QuadeeraTeartCo.com. Here is where you'll find events and everyday tips to shift your life and your brand.

TAKING ACTION! YOUR VOTE IS YOUR VOICE Meet Executive Director of ProGeorgia & The Executive Director of Feminist Resource Center Kwajelyn Jackson

Tamieka Atkins

Tell us about ProGeorgia: ProGeorgia is Georgia’s non-profit civic engagement table, bringing together the power of existing non-profit groups to work in a more strategic way, with new tools and technology, to change the policies of our state. ProGeorgia is building infrastructure by supporting, connecting, and coordinating civic participation efforts of our non-profit member groups. ProGeorgia is implementing ways to win policy and electoral battles for progressive social change. ProGeorgia coordinates the civic engagement efforts of member organizations in the following areas: Voter Engagement, Issue Organizing, and Economies of Scale It is a new way to create a state we can be proud of. We strive to become a state that takes care of its citizens and our beautiful natural resources. What inspired you to become project manager for the women empowerment project? [Angela Saxton, ProGeorgia Project Manager] I have worked as a Community Organizer for over ten years, committed to building power and rebuilding communities. In the years that I have organized, I have personally witnessed how black women are leading at reshaping what our cities look like. In addition to fighting to make sure that our values are reflected in our communities. I stepped into the project manager position with the ProGeorgia Women Empowerment Project because I believe that It’s time focus in on building the power of black women’s voices, carving out space that allows women to thrive and be heard. It’s time to trust black women!! Featuring: Tamieka Atkins, Executive Director of ProGeorgia With the current state of our country, what would you say to those who are discouraged by recent events? To those who are discouraged, I would say this is the TIME. Those who would silence our voice, those who would prefer to maintain the status quo of low wages, lack of protection for workers - particularly domestic workers who are more often Black and Brown, lack of access to good quality healthcare, lack of housing and lack of access to quality education - those that profit from maintaining this status quo are working overtime to silence our voice, the voice of the majority, the voices of Black women and women of color. We must continue to take action in the streets, at the State Capitol, and especially at the voting booth. Your Vote is Your Voice!

Why is it important to be an informed voter and not just vote for the party? Learn about candidates individually, about where they stand on the issues that matter to you, your family, your neighborhood, and your community. And if none of the candidates represent your needs, then its time to find other candidates that do, regardless of party. It is known that black women typically lead the charge in civic involvement, why do you think that’s the case? Black women are often asked to hold many burdens in our society. Black women live at the intersection of so many different social issues. Because of that, we know that we have no choice BUT to take action, because we often times pay the biggest price for bad legislation that negatively impacts us and our loved ones. Featuring: ProGeorgia: WE Project Members: Kwajelyn Jackson, Executive Director Feminist Resource Center It is known that black women typically lead the charge in civic involvement, why do you think that’s the case? [Kwajelyn Jackson] Yes, but through a very limited scope. Black Women are often discussed as a powerful and consistent voting bloc, and that is becoming more and more widely known. But in my experience, we are relatively rarely acknowledged as leaders in the campaign side civic engagement. I rarely see discussion of Black women campaign managers, strategists, media directors, fundraisers, etc., though they absolutely exist. But it is important for Black women to be groomed and trained for these fields as well as the grassroots organizations that are leading civic engagement and voter education programs. Talk about the upcoming election and how imperative it is for us all to vote? [Kwajelyn Jackson] Not only is it imperative that we vote, but it is also necessary to vote in every single election. No public office is meaningless or with some power over how we live our lives. And every one of these elected positions works for us, on our behalf. We owe it to ourselves to at least have some idea of the people who we are giving, sometimes very significant power to, who are acting on our behalf and determining how we will navigate our world. How would you respond to naysayers who claim that their individual vote does not count? [Kwajelyn Jackson] What we have seen over the past decade is the importance of local and state elections in determining our freedoms, particularly when it comes to reproductive justice. I find that few people really understand civics and how our government is structured, or have not paid very close attention until very recently. So as a result, people have an outsized idea of what the position of the President is and the power that seat wields in relation to the rest of the branches and levels of government. In Presidential elections, it can feel like a single vote is not as powerful as it should be. But in local and state election, Every Single Vote Matters tremendously. INTERVIEW WITH

NIKKI

PAYNE INTRODUCE YOURSELF AND TELL US WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO BECOME A BEAUTYPRENEUR? In a time where the side effects of international cosmetic surgery and black market procedures are being brought to the forefront, I wanted to introduce the option of affordable non-invasive procedures. WHAT SERVICES/PRODUCTS ARE OFFERED THROUGH VAIN BODIES BY NIKKI? Vain Bodies by Nikki offers non-invasive lipo cavitation, laser lipo, skin tightening, buttocks enhancements and cellulite treatments. HOW WOULD YOU SAY SELF-CARE AND SELF-CONFIDENCE GO HAND-IN-HAND FOR WOMEN? Low self-confidence can be the result of how a person views themselves. Self-care allows a person to take some form of control over their appearance which results in higher self-esteem. THE DEMANDS OF ENTREPRENEURSHIP ARE HEAVY, WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU SHARE WITH READERS FOR MAINTAINING POSITIVE MENTAL HEALTH THROUGH THEIR JOURNEY AS A SMALL BUSINESS OWNER? The advice that I would share with small business owners is to always schedule yourself a lunch break and at least 15 minutes in between clients (if possible). Weekly, you should also try to take half a day where you do nothing work related. This will ensure that you will be mentally capable to handle the duties of your business. WHAT IS NEXT FOR YOUR AND HOW CAN READERS CONNECT WITH YOU ONLINE? Next quarter, I am going to begin to offer post-op services for people that have gone through traditional liposuction, tummy tucks, Brazilian butt lifts, breast augmentations, etc. You can connect with me online at www.vainbodies.com or on Instagram @vainbodies_bynikki.

CHERYL WOOD INTERNATIONAL SPEAKER & AUTHOR

Tell us about your journey into becoming an Author and Motivational Speaker: My entrepreneurial journey started in 2009 while I was still working a full-time job as a legal secretary in corporate America. At the time, I was desperate for three core freedoms: (i) Time freedom, (ii) Financial freedom, and (iii) Creative freedom. Primarily, as a mother of three, I had a yearning to claim success on my own terms in order to be fully present and available for my children versus having them in someone else’s care for 12-hours a day. I no longer wanted to punch a time clock and build somebody else’s dream. So, I started my own business offering a custom line of mommy t-shirts called Moms R The Best just to get my feet wet in the world of entrepreneurship. I kept my fulltime job and sold my t-shirts at conferences and tradeshow events on the weekends. As a result of just getting started, I was divinely detoured into my true purpose. On September 18, 2010, I received my first opportunity to serve as a featured speaker at Morgan State University to teach other moms how to start their own businesses — that only happened because I had started my t-shirt business. And it was on that day in September 2010 that I discovered I was BORN TO SPEAK. After that event, I starting affirming for myself that my voice, my story, and my message was necessary even despite everything I thought I was lacking.

At the beginning of 2011, I started speaking into existence that I would become an international speaker, and I began speaking as often as possible to as many audiences as possible. Fast forward to today and I have spoken for organizations including The United Nations, the FBI, U.S. Department of Defense, U.S. Department of Agriculture, Verizon Wireless, Federally Employed Women, Blacks In Government, National Association of Legal Professionals, Virginia Women In Public Finance, Project Management Institute and Alabama State University, to name a few. And I have had the joy of traveling to numerous countries to empower women to play bigger including South Africa, India, London, and Bahamas. Since starting my speaking career, I have authored six best-selling books. I have been blessed to be featured on ABC, Radio One, Forbes Magazine, Huffington Post, ESSENCE, Black Enterprise, Ebony, Good Morning Washington, The Washington Informer, Afro-American Newspaper, and numerous other media outlets. And I have humbly received numerous awards and recognition for my women’s empowerment work including 2018 Global Leadership Award, 2018 Woman of Power Award, 2017 Woman of the Year Award, 2017 International Inspirer Award, and 2016 Metropolitan Woman of the Year Award. What few tips would you share with readers about becoming a paid speaker? Make clarity the most important element of your journey to becoming a paid speaker. Be clear about your target audience, your resounding message, your specific marketplace solutions, and your signature story. The greater your clarity, the greater your influence and income will be. Remember that “every speaking engagement is a paid speaking engagement if you are intentional and strategic”. If a company wants to book you as their speaker but cannot pay your full speakers fee, that doesn’t mean you cannot still generate revenue. Ask specific questions about the demographic and if it’s your target audience, negotiate the opportunity to generate revenue by selling your programs and/or products at the event. You have the ability to generate your full speaker's fee (or more) by selling from the stage. Never put all your eggs in one basket as a speaker. Being paid to speak on stage is just one revenue stream. So, it is critical that you create multiple streams of revenue including paid webinars, individual coaching, group coaching, VIP days, conferences, bootcamp events, retreats and digital products, to name a few. What is next for you and your brand in the new year? I am thrilled to be launching my new initiative, A Woman’s Narrative (AWN), which is a global platform designed for bold, courageous women to share their stories to inspire others across the United States and internationally. As a part of the AWN initiative, I will be hosting my first international women’s conference in Paris, France in May 2019. I am also launching a new magazine called, IMPACT THE WORLD magazine to accompany my IMPACT THE WORLD radio show. The magazine will feature celebrities, influencers, and everyday people who are using their unique gifts to create a legacy while touching the lives of others. Learn more at www.ImpactTheWorldMagazine.com. How can readers connect with you online and through social media?
