Tell us about what inspired your professional pursuits and what advice you would have to ladies interested in a similar profession? Shalon's H-‐‑O-‐‑P-‐‑E (H -‐‑ Help; O -‐‑ Other; P -‐‑ People; E -‐‑ Excel). is a storytelling endeavor. It is a reinvention program to help other people excel. By sharing my life story, women can grasp hope and make a difference in their lives and the lives of others. I will be going from city to city telling my story and empowering women to reinvent their lives. The self-‐‑determination to refuse a legacy of poverty and battery, coupled with a deep desire to help others become self-‐‑reliant, inspired my pursuit. My advice to other women, is to first purpose in your heart to refuse a life of poverty and abuse. Second, be industrious and find ways and means to be independent. For example, in my plight of destitution, I approached people and asked them to clean out their closets for me. I sold the items at flea markets and used the proceed to pay rent and utilities. I was ready and willing to clean out the closets myself, so use whatever knowledge, skills an abilities you have and ask for the help you need.
