¡UN POCO DE HISTORIA! El departamento de Loreto, es el más extenso del Perú, fue habitado desde tiempos remotos por tribus nómadas y seminómadas.

Se calcula que sólo durante la colonia llegó a detectarse hasta 800 de estos grupos.

Esto hace presumir que al arribo de los españoles, la población indígena bordeaba las 300 mil pero que luego se vieron diezmados por enfermedades adquiridas en su relación con los españoles, como la viruela, difteria, ma-

laria, fiebre amarilla y tos ferina.

Fue el 12 de febrero de 1542 que el conquistador español Francisco de Orellana descubre el río Amazonas.

La época de oro de Loreto se inició hacia finales del siglo pasado con la fiebre del caucho. Como la región era rica en esta variedad de los árboles de jebe y su precio subió tanto, se convirtió en centro de todas las miradas y ambiciones de la tierra.

Este periodo duró 25 años y dio paso a un gigantesco desarrollo que se detuvo cuando dicha fiebre terminó.

RESERVA NACIONAL DE PACAYA SAMIRIA Comprende gran parte de Loreto, Requena, Ucayali y Alto Amazonas, y es una de las reservas más grandes del país y de Sudamérica (20 800 km²) Abunda la palmera del aguaje y existen más de 1,025 especies de vertebrados, lo que representa un 27% de la diversidad de estas especies.

• Horarios de visita: Durante el día.

• Localizacion: A 183 Km al suroeste de Iquitos. La ruta más corta es Iquitos-Nauta por carretera y por vía fluvial desde Nauta hasta la Comunidad 20 de Enero (15 horas en bote o 4 horas en deslizador).

Pacaya Samiria National Reserve It comprises a large part of Loreto, Requena, Ucayali and Alto Amazonas, and it’s one of the largest reserves in the country and South America. RESERVA NACIONAL ALLPAHUAYO - MISHANA Reserva de 58.000 hectáreas, protege la mayor concentración de bosques de arena blanca en la Amazonía peruana, donde viven numerosas especies únicas de plantas y animales.

• Localizacion: Ingreso a 26.8 Km de Iquitos por la carretera Iquitos-Nauta (30 minutos en auto).

IA MATRIZ O CATEDRAL DE IQUITOS Ubicada en la Plaza de Armas de la ciudad de Iquitos; fue construida entre 1911 y 1924 bajo el estilo neogótico.

Su estructura de una sola nave mantiene los detalles del modelo europeo con un púlpito tallado en madera al lado derecho.

Un detalle interesante es el reloj suizo que se instaló en 1925, su cuidado estuvo en manos del señor Manuel Pinedo.

Mother Church or Iquitos Cathedral Located in the Plaza de Armas of the city of Iquitos; was built between 1911 and 1924 under the neogothic style.

MALECÓN TARAPACÁ O BOULEVARD Diseñada en la época del auge del caucho en memoria de los héroes caídos en la Guerra del Pacífico. Se encuentra a una cuadra de la Plaza de Armas.

El malecón ha sido remodelado con anchas veredas, pequeñas plazuelas con jardines y una singular glorieta, monumento a la biodiversidad y a los mitos y leyendas de la región amazónica.

• Localizacion: A una cuadra de la Plaza de Armas.

Malecón Tarapacá or Boulevard Designed in the time of the rubber boom in memory of the heroes fallen in the War of the Pacific. It takes place one block from the Plaza de Armas.

The malecon has been remodeled with wide sidewalks, small squares with gardens and a unique roundabout, a monument to biodiversity and to the myths and legends of the Amazon region.

La Casa de Fierro

Se encuentra ubicado entre las esquinas del Jr. Próspero y la calle Putumayo, frente a la Plaza de Armas de la ciudad de Iquitos. Se construyó en 1887, siendo diseñada por el arquitecto francés Gustavo Eiffel.

Se encuentra ubicado entre las esquinas de la calle Putumayo y el Malecón Tarapacá. Se terminó de construir en el año 1912 y, desde entonces fue considerado el mejor y más lujoso de la amazonía peruana. Se calcula que en los detalles se invirtieron cerca de 40 mil libras de oro.
