PH Lango is a Saami Legend

Per Henrik Lango is a legendary, and sometimes controversial, Saami from Arjeplog. He is 70+ years old and still going strong. Lango often goes by the name PH. He became well-known throughout Sweden after the film about his life that was made in the 1980’s. He has
also featured in many newspaper stories, some of them controversial. For example, the one when he was accused of building a tourist village in the mountains without permits. PH said he was building a garage for his snow-mobiles (which is allowed) but the judge wondered why he put fancy parquet flooring in a garage. The huts are still standing some 25 years later.
Now he has decided to enter the event business. Last week he opened his new Saami centre called Sámi Siida which translates to Saami community. “I heard the name somewhere and stole it”, he says, laughing. Lango has always walked his own path and can easily be called a local celebrity. He has been herding reindeer continued on page 2
