Destiny News Hello dear’s readers From the family of destiny children centre once again receive our warmest greetings. This publication being the final issue for the year 2009, we deeply thank the Lord for guiding and be with us all throughout the year and our heartiest gratefulness also goes out to all those who continued to offer their support for our case. Thanks too to all those volunteers, present and past, which came our way and spent time with us. To all of them, we are lost for words but can only say God BLESS you and do pray that He opens doors for you wherever you go, for the work you did here at Daughters of destiny was truly invaluable and your mummeries will always be fresh in our minds and hearts. Full of blessings and development the year 2009 has brought forth on us, chief among the development being the introduction Destiny News, our newsletter of which the first published issue was launched in August and which will continue to fill you in about our activities, progress and a whole range of other news: As we head towards the tail end or the year, we would like to wish you all our readers and followers a happy Christmas and Happy new year and also pray that God will see us through safely till we meet again in 2010! Pokeeni salamu zetu za dhati kutoka kwa wote walioko hip kituo cha destiny Children.kijijarida hiki kikiwa ndicho cha mwisho kuchapishwa mwaka huu wa 2009 tunamshukuru sana Mungu kwa kutuongoza na kuwa nasi mpaka kufikia sasa na vilevile pia tunawashukuru wale wote ambao wamuuwa wakiendelea kutusaidia katika uiendeleza kazi yetu. Shukurani pia ziwaendee wafanyi kazi wote waujitolea wakati huu na wakati uliopita, waliotutembelea na kuwa nasi.hatuna mengi ya kusema kwa wao wote isipokuwa MUNGU AWABARIKI na pia kumuamba mola awafungulie milango ya mafanikio na heri popote pale mwendapo kwani juhudi zenu mlizozifanya hapa Daughter of Destiny zilikuwa zisizo na kifani na kwa hilo siku zote tutawakumbukaa. Mwaka huu wa 2009 umekuwa mwingi wa neema na mambo mapya kwetu, mojawapo wa mambo haya ikiwa ni kuchapishwa kwa mara ya kwanza kwa kijijaride hikicha Destiny News hapo mnamo wa agosti na ambacho sasa hivi kitaendelea kukujulisha na kukufahamisha kuhusu shughuli zetu, maendeleo yetu pamoja na habari nyingine nyingi. Tukiwa sasa tunaelekea mwisho wa mwaka tungependa kuwatakia wasomaji wetu pamoja na wafuasi wetu chrismas njema pamoja na mwaka mpya wenye furaha na vilevile pia tamuomba mwenyezi atuwezeshe kumaliza mwaka kwa uzima na salama mpaka tutakapoonana tena mwakani! Karibu cha Destiny Children kilichoko mtaa wa likoni katika jiji la Mombasa nchini kwenye kiliazishwa mwaka wa 2004 kikitumia jina la Daughter of destiny. Sasa hivi kikiwa kinaiendesha shule inayotoa elimu ya kiwango cha chekechea mpaka darasa la tatu, kituo hiki kinajituma kuona kwamba watoto wanaotoa kwenye familia za hali ndogo wanapata elimu ifaayo na pia kwamba hali yao ya kimaisha inaimarika. Hapa kwetu kituo cha Destiny, tunaamini katika ari ya kujitolea na ni kupitia ari hii ndio tumeza kufika hapa tulipo sasa, kupitia usaidia wa watu wema waliojitokeza. THE DIRECTOR’S MESSAGE
UJUMBE KUTOKA KWA MKURUGENZI
Dear Friends of Destiny! By the grace of God we are coming towards the end of 2009 with only a few days remaining. To this we give all the glory and honour to Him who has enabled us. To those who have been communicating with us, we say thank you very much, your mails brings to us a lot of joy and encouragement. Many goods things have happened in our centre this year and of course bad things too. The bad things come to discourage us for the devil’s work is to kill, destroy and steal but the work of Jesus is to give us life abundantly. I will start with the good things. For a long time we have prayed that God give us a sponsor to support our teachers’ salaries .God has answered our prayers and we have now received sponsorship for two teachers, this will go a long way in uplifting the standards of education in the school. We also got well-wishers who through their support and generosity our center now has a kitchen which will also double up as a staffroom. Our friends from Holland also bought school textbooks for our school, and this will no doubt improve learning. Karen Suarez, our volunteer from Germany, finished her contract of three months with us, and it was her who initiated the idea of the newsletter and thanks to her, the first publication was made possible back in August. We now hope to have this newsletter three times a year! God bless you Karen. At the end of her term, she was visited by her husband and brother-in law, Thillo and Carlo Martens respectively, who also brought with them some gifts of shoes and t-shirts which we are to give out at the end term as chrismas gifts. As for the bad news, the centre was raided by a gang of robbers on the night of 28th October. They stole our computer, printer, and sewing machine among other things but by the grace of God none of us was hurt. Sadly though, the volunteers present at the time, Meike and Freya, both Gremans, had to leave immediately fearing for their security. I, together with my son, Ken, also had to leave the house until the front door, which had been broken during the incident, was replaced with a metal one. Our prayer now is that we be able to reinforce more security at the centre by installing grilled metal windows and doors as well as fencing the entire compound. And probably have a night guard. Due to this unfortunate event plus the fact that our security measures are not yet assuring, we cannot at the moment take in volunteers until after we have managed to put in place effective security measures. The cost of installing of the metal window & door grilles together with the fencing will cost us around 60,000Kshs. Whatever it is you can do to help us with the security issue will be greatly appreciated. The school closed on the 25th November and will be opening for the first term of 2010 on January 9th. Hamjambo marafiki zetu! Kwa uwezo wake mola tunaelekea mwisho wa mwaka huu wa 2009 tukiwa tumebakisha sasa siku chache tu. Tunamshukuru Sana Mungu kwa kutuwezesha hili. Kwa wale wote ambao wamekuwa wakiwasiliana nasi, tunasema shukrani kwani barua zenu zimekuwa zikitutelea furaha kuwa pamoja na kututia furaha kubwa pamoja na kututia motisha. Mambo mengi mazuri yamejiri hapa katika kituo chetu mwaka huu, na vilevile mambo mabaya pia yametufikia. Yale mambo mabaya yamekuja kutuvunja moyo kwani kazi ya shetani ni kuua, kuiba na kuharibu lakini ya yesu kristo ni kupatia maisha. Nikianza na yale mambo mazuri, kwa muda mrefu sana tumekuwa tukimuomba Mwenyezi atujaaliye mfadhili wakutusaidia na swala la mishahara ya walimu. Mola ametujibu maombi yetu na sasa tumepata ufadhili huo kwa waalimu wetu wawili! Vilevile pia tukaweza kupata ufadhili na hivi sasa kituo chetu kinajiunia jiko, jengo hilo likiwa pia ni litatumika kama ofisi ya waalimu! Marafiki zetu huko uholanzi pia wakatuletea vitabu vya kusomea vya shule, ambavyo bila shaka vitawafaidi Sana wanafunzi wetu. Aliyekuwa mwalimu wetu wa kujitolea kutoka Ujerumani, Karen, naye alimaliza wakati wake baada ya kuwa nasi kwa muda wa miezi mitatu, na ni yeye alyetuanzishia kijijaride hiki mnamo mwezi wa nane. Sasa tunatarajia kuchapisha kijijaride hiki mara moja Kwa kila muhula! Mungu akubariki Karen. Mwisho wa muda wake Karen alitembelewa na mumewe pamoja na shemeji yake,Thillo na Carlo Martens, ambao pia walileta zawadi kwa mfano wa viatu na fulana ambazo tutazipeana kwa watoto wetu kama zawadi za Christmas. Kwa yale mambo mabaya yaliyotufika, kituo chetu kilivamiwa na genge la wezi mnamo usiku wa tarehe 28th mwezi wa Oktoba. Wezi hao walituibia compyuta, mashine ya kuchapisha, cherehani pamoja na vitu vingine lakini kwa neema zake Mungu hakuna baadhi yetu aliyejeruhiwa. Japo lakusikitisha ni kwamba wafanyi kazi wetu wa kujitolea wakijerumani, Mike na freya, walilazimika kutuacha huku wakihofia usalama wao. Mimi mwenyewe pamoja na wanangu,Ken,pia ilitubidi kuihama nyumbani kwa uoga uliotufika hadi mlango,uliokuwa umevunjwa usiku wa kisa hicho,ulipobadilishwa na badala yake kwake ule wa chuma. Maombi yetu sasa ni kwamba tuweze kupata uwezo wa kuimarisha hali ya usalama hapa kituoni kwa kuwekelea hali milango na madirisha ya chuma pamoja na kuzungusha ua kwenye eneo lote la kituo. Pia ikiwezekana tupate na mlinzi. Kwa sababu ya tukio hilo pamoja na kwamba hali ya usalama bado sio imara, hatutaweza kuwakaribisha wasaidizi wakujitolea kwa sasa hivi hadi tutakapoweza kuyatimiza haya yote. Vyovyote vile unaweza kutusaidia katika swala hili la usalama tutashukuru sana. Shule ilifungwa mnamo tarehe 25 mwezi wa Novemba na itafunguliwa tena kwa muhula wa kwanza mwakani hapo Januari tarehe tisa. Nawatakia nyote Christmas njema na mwaka mpya wenye furaha!!

BOOKS FOR DESTINY VISIONARY SCHOOL
SHULE YETU YAPATA VITABU VYA KUSOMEA.
The visit to the centre by the chairlady and financial controller of Likoni is Moving Forward was not without its blessing as far as school text books are concerned. The books, nursery as well as class two and three, were presented to the students and the director by Nicoline Ader and Margaret Hagelstein on the day of their visit on the November. Destiny Visionary school which has for a long time lacked adequate text books can now breath a sigh of relief on that quarter, courtesy of donations sought by the organization in Holland. This is indeed a welcome contribution that will no doubt go along way in equipping our pupils with quality education as well as helping our center make one great step towards delivering the same to the community’s children. From Daughters of Destiny, our thanks goes to Margaret Hagelstein, Nicoline Ader, and Frank Hagelstein, together with the entire board of LIKONI IS MOVING FORWARD organization for the tremendous and invaluable work they’ve done for us, not forgetting all the well wishers and sponsors in Holland through which their generosity and support have made possible our developments so far. WAFADHILI WETU WATUTEMBELEA
Nicoline Ader and Margaret Hagelstein visited Destiny Children Centre on November. The two, chairlady and financial controller respectively of the LIKONI IS MOVING FORWARD organization based in Holland arrived at the centre on the4th November where they were met with excitement and joy by the children and staff of Daughter of Destiny. Visiting the project Frank hagelstein spending time with developed as a result of destiny kids in class their marvelous effort and dedication, the guests inspected the newly constructed kitchen as well as attended and observed classes in progress. In keeping with our tradition, the two were treated to some entertainment shortly after their arrival with children making a brief performance where they recited some poems, sang a traditional song along with a thanksgiving song for the sponsors with the lines, “Thank you so much mama Frank (Margaret) and Nicoline for helping us build the school, borehole and kitchen”. In what was a rather interesting coincidence on the already joyful day, the 4th November was also the day that Frank Hagelstein, our ambassador, was celebrating his birthday and for this it was necessary that the fraternity of Destiny Children Centre wishes a happy birthday to its advocate, and so the children sang out “happy birthday to you Frank and Grandpa,” to go out to him all the way to the Netherlands where he was sharing his birthday with his grandfather(Kees Mandersloot)-- a double coincidence you would say, wouldn’t you? Nicoline and Margaret had not come empty handed for the children and the sweets, biscuits and other stuff they had brought them were met with delight and satisfaction by the pupils who were so greatful for their treat. All in all, it was such a wonderful visit that the children, staff together with the visitors all enjoyed. LIKONI IS MOVING FORWARD organization which was founded by our ambassador Frank Hagelstein together with his friends, and through which the funds to construct our kitchen were sourced from, is a non-profit organization committed to seeking sponsorship and donors to help Daughters of Destiny propel its cause and realize its mission.

Na kama ilivyo kawaida yetu ya kuwatumbuiza wageni wetu kila wanapotutembelea, wanafunzi wetu waliwaimbia wawili hao nyimbo ya shukrani iliyotungiwa wafadhili wetu ilivyosema “ahsante sana mama Frank na Nicoline kwa kutusaidia kujenga shule yetu, jiko na kutuchimbia kisima.” Siku hiyo ya tarehe nne mwezi wa Novemba pia ikiwa ndiyo siku ya kuzaliwa kwa Frank hagelstein ambaye ndiye balozi wetu, jamii yote ya kituo chetu ilifurahikia siku hiyo muhimu kwa mwakilishi wetu na hata wanafunzi walimwimbia, happy birthday njema Frank pamoja na babu yako” imuendee Frank akiwa uholanzi ambapo pia alikuwa akiiadhimisha siku hiyo ya kuzaliwa kwake sawia na babu yake (kees mandershoot)! Nicoline na Margaret pia hawakuwa wamekuja mkono mtupu kwani waliwaletea wanafunzi peremende, biskuti pamoja na mapochopocho mengine yapendwayo na watoto na hivi vyote walivifurahia si haba. Kwa ujumla ilikuwa siku njema ambayo watoto, wafanyi kazi pamoja na wageni wote waliifurahia. Shirika la LIKONI IS MOVING FORWARD lililoanzishwa na mwakilishi wetu Frank Hagelstein akisaidiana na marafiki zake na ambalo kupitia juhudi zake ndio tumeweza kujenga shule pamoja na jiko letu, ni shirika lisilo la kibiashara linalojituma kutafuta ufadhili ili kuona kwamba kituo chetu cha Destiny Children Centre kinaiendeleza kazi yake.
INCOME GENERATING ACTIVITY
MRADI WA BIASHARA
The month of September saw the start of an income generating activity. The project, which is aimed at raising funds to help support our various programmes, engages the parents of pupils of Destiny Visionary school. Starting off with the sale of clothing materials, albeit on a small scale, it is our hope and prayer that the activity will expand in the near future so as to assist the centre attain self-sustainment. In the project, a certain percentage of the proceeds is to benefit the parents, who are themselves involved in selling the products.
Mradi wa biashara ulianzishwa mnamo mwezi wa September.Mradi huu unawahusisha wazazi na wanafunzi wa Destiny Visionary school una malengo ya kuzalisha pesa ambazo kwamba zitaelekea katika kuiendesha mipango tofauti ya kituo chetu. Ni matumaini na maombi yetu kwamba mradi huu uioanza Kwa uuzaji wa vitambaa vya nguo (vitenge), utaendelea vyema na hatimaye kupanuka katika siku zijazo kwa kiasi cha kukiwezesha kituo chetu kukiimili mambo yake. Katika biashara hii, asilimia kadhaa ya mapato yote yapatikanayo itakuwa ikifanikisha wazazi kwani wao ndiyo imehusika katika uuzaji wa bidhaa za mradi. Usaidizi wa aina yeyote ile katika kutusaidia kiupanua biashara na mradi huu unakaribishwa.

Lillian Douma a Dutch national and Mary, an American are both former volunteers of daughters of destiny for a short time. they met for the first time at destiny and became friends. These photos were taken in California, USA when Lillian visited USA. While there she called on Mary. They rekindled a friendship made in destiny and perhaps recollected on the times they had! Mary, in black knitted cap, Lillian, centre and a friend having a fun at the beach!
