CAHS aims 5-peat victory
by Leanne Joyce M. Mendoza
The College of Allied Health Sciences (CAHS) is gearing up to bring home the trophy for the fifth time as the Cagayan State University - Andrews Campus Intramurals 2024 commence.
According to CAHS Student Council Governor Kathleen Pascua, a second-year student from the Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Science (BSMLS) program, participants from the college are doing their best to prepare for their respective competitions despite the challenges posed by the recent series of typhoons that affected the province.
“We have been closely monitoring the performances of our participants, and so far, I am confident in saying that we can defend our title for the upcoming Intramurals 2 have seen how hard they have been practicing. Even though the weather sometimes restricts them, they always find a way to continue,” Pascua said when asked if the college could bring home the trophy.
Additionally, with the support of CAHS faculty members and the guidance of the coaches, the college is optimistic about achieving a five-peat victory.
“Our faculty coaches have been very handson and supportive, significantly improving the skills of our participants. I am confident that all their efforts will not go to waste. With everything coming together, I am eager to have our trophy back home,” she added.
Furthermore, as the college aims to achieve a grand slam in this year’s campus intramurals, Pascua acknowledges the pressure she faces as the current governor of the college. However, with the support of her colleagues and advisers, she remains confident that CAHS can once again rise to the top.
“When it gets rough, I always remind myself of the reason I am here—that it is not for myself but for the people who voted for me and gave me their trust. It is also reassuring that most of my officers and the CAHS SC advisers are actively engaging and participating in the conduct of our events,” she said.

While emphasizing that the most valuable matter of the intramurals are the teamwork, commitment, and memories gained by students, Pascua still encourages every CAHSian to show their support for the participants, who have been exerting a lot of effort in their training and preparations.

Campus Media
Truth Keepers, Event Frontliners
by Maria Monica Octubre
When intramurals excitement unfolds-the cheers, the competitions, and the vibrant display of University spirit, it is not uncommon to focus on those on the spot-athletes, performers, or even commentators. But behind the scene lies the campus journalist, arriving very early, leaving very late, who captures every moment and gives the rest of the student body stories that allow them to relive the excitement.
These information frontliners play a very significant role, not only in intramurals but for every important events; the heartbeat of campus life continues and is always informed. Campus journalists are not just spectators or personal photographers, but integral participants.
They report winners in every competition to breaking down highlights for each day to make sure that nothing goes unreported to inform the public. They’re dedicated- doing everything from writing articles or editing newsletters, through capturing photographs of every action shot and editors who polish up a story till late night. Also, they are the reporters rushing to get interviews from key persons, reporting of every story to reflect and inform their readers of any community and social issue, using news narratives to bring people closer with campuses with pride and unity in unison. Still, they stand as frontliners: for all to enjoy and remember the highlights of the events, campus journalists juggle tight deadlines, academic loads, and the pressure to deliver truthful and well-
crafted stories. They face the added hurdles of limited resources, insufficient equipments, and a lack of recognition compared to other student organizations.
Despite these challenges, the passion for truth and storytelling drives them forward, ensuring that every event, big or small, is documented and shared with the campus community. In this age of wildfirelike spreading of misinformation, the credibility of student journalists becomes even more vital. The dedication to accuracy, accountability, and transparency makes them more than mere recorders of events— they are truth-keepers and truth-tellers, providing a foundation of trust for the student body and the campus.
As we celebrate the athletes and performers who shine during intramurals, let us also recognize the student journalists who are always on the frontlines. Considering their positive effect in the entire campus, their seat among the other student organizations is truly deserved. The fight is symbolic, not so much as a battle towards this value but as an advance
in acknowledging the gigantic input of value they bring to the campus and the student body. This acknowledgment is a testament that there exist ‘Them’, not ‘just them’. As ‘Them’- The board, the staffs, the publication, are the real voice of the
that they are not just “student journalists” as they too are “student leaders”- of what? Of truth, of information, of freedom- because the only empowered campus is the wellinformed one, and that is a prize worth winning for each and every student

Roaring Rise
by Ashley Feye M. Lim
I stood at the threshold, threading the cacophony sound around me. The roar of applause washed over me, drowning out the echoes of my past struggles. Air thick with the taste of something both familiar and strange, thick with the remnants of everything I had fought for. What once seemed like an unreachable summit now lay beneath my feet. I knew something inside me fractured, like the crack of dawn breaking through a blackened sky. The world around me pulse with warmth, as if it were saying, Here you are, standing at the precipice of all you’ve worked for –A cusp of a grand slam that refused to bend to doubt
I don the heavy weight of every step. I had been rowing with fierce ocean eyes and simultaneously of weariness from tempest that threatened to capsize me in its endless tides. Fatigue seeped into my bones and doubts whispered cruelly, yet I moved. With sheer force. Catching breaths, calloused hands scraped to the earth, strained legs with its softness chipped away until it felt like it was nothing but bone and belief, I pressed on. Yet from these fractures, something carved in me, of embers scalding and yielding until hot enough to melt all the weight in the world to butter and turn it to ash.
I can still feel the sting of bruises I wore like armor. Every fall, every dive onto the unforgivinghaze of cemented ground as every throbbing muscle of mine rebels on its own, was a cost of this moment. The dribble of a ball echoed like a heartbeat in my mind, a rhythm of every failed shot and rebound. I could still feel the court beneath me as it bore the scuffs of thousand desperate lunges, each one a step closer to this victory. My racquet gripped tightly in my hands, I could almost hear the vibration of strings meeting the ball like the shock of destiny and hope colliding
I remember the pull of stealth and hunger and of menace crouching and striking, the kind that gnaws at your

A silent storm, they weave and dart, Each step is finely crafted art.
Jaguars shift with mystic guile, Their tactics are strange, their pace in style.
They flint, they sway, they dance, they turn, Their strategy, a lesson learned. Panthers wait in shadows’ keep, Their patience held in silence deep.

And in each clash, respect is sealed. For every team, a rival’s might, Becomes a reason to fight with light. Then comes the final, fateful score, The Lions rise, their spirits soar.
A unity forged in battle’s heat— In strength and trust, they find defeat.
The Tigers bow in silent grace, Acknowledging the Lions’ place. The Jaguars nod, the Panthers too, In loss they find respect anew. For kings are crowned not just by skill, But by the hearts and soul they move and thrill.

More than a competition
by ALIEN CHROMATICA
Campus Intramurals are often seen as a competitive spectacle, where colleges like the CAHS Green Lions, CBEA Yellow Tigers, CTE Blue Jaguars, and CHM Pink Panthers, vie for supremacy in sports, academic, and socio-cultural activities. While the adrenaline of competition and the thrill of victory are undeniable highlights, Intramurals are far more than just a showcase of athletic prowess or an annual scoreboard of achievements. They are a celebration of community, character, and the indomitable spirit of student life.
Breaking barriers, building bonds
One of the most significant aspects of Intramurals is its ability to unite students. In the lead-up to the event, students, colleges, and organizations come together to prepare— for practices, for props making or costumes, for many, this is the first time they interact with peers outside their usual circles, and these collaborations break social barriers. In these moments, friendships are forged and strengthened. Intramurals is more than just the thought of winning games, it is a platform that teaches us how to find joy in working together toward a common goal. The camaraderie built during practices and training often translates into lasting bonds that extend beyond the playing field.
A Carnival of talents
Not every student is an academic achiever nor a campus leader. Intramurals provide a stage for those who may not always shine in traditional settings. From the artist designing banners to the dancer leading a jumpstreet performance, this celebration highlights the diverse talents and skill set within the halls of our campus.
Athletes in the field of basketball and volleyball events get their moment to inspire with skill and dedication, while non-athletic events like literary or spoken word contests offer inclusive avenues for participation. This recognition builds self-confidence and fosters a sense of belonging for every individual, regardless of their interests.
A Celebration of sportsmanship
In a world often divided by competition, Intramurals remind us that sportsmanship matters. Every

handshake before and after a game symbolizes respect for opponents. It’s not uncommon to see players from rival teams offering water bottles or helping each other up after a fall.
Whether it’s the Green Lions cheering on the Blue Jaguars or the Pink Panthers congratulating the Yellow Tigers, these moments of unity prove that Intramurals are more than a battle for dominance. They reflect the values of humility in victory, grace in defeat, and unwavering respect for others as one community.
Redeeming a healthy lifestyle
Amid the rigors of academics, students often neglect their physical and mental well-being. Intramurals serve as a timely reminder of the importance of balance. The focus on physical activity encourages students to adopt healthier lifestyles, and become more physically active even beyond the duration of the games. Moreover, the spirit of competition provides an outlet for stress, allowing students to channel their energy positively. It’s not just about winning; it’s about having fun, staying active, and prioritizing wellness.
Strengthening college identity
For many, Intramurals are synonymous with school pride. The sea of colors—green, yellow, blue, and pink—fills the campus with energy, as chants echo through the halls and banners wave proudly. Each college rallies behind its athletes, fostering a collective identity that students carry with pride. Beyond the competition, these moments remind us of the joy of belonging to something bigger than ourselves. Whether your college wins or loses, the collective spirit defines the true essence of the event.
Beyond the field, out on the real world
The lessons of Intramurals extend far beyond the court or field. Teamwork, resilience, adaptability, and respect are values that resonate in every aspect of life. As students step out of the university and into the professional world, these experiences shape them into better leaders, teammates, collaborators, and individuals. Moreover, Intramurals often ignite a passion for sports and leadership that lasts a lifetime. Many students take these moments as inspiration to organize future events, mentor others, or even pursue careers in sports management.
Growth is a legacy
As we reflect on the meaning of campus Intramurals, it’s essential to ensure that they remain accessible and inclusive. Organizers must strive to create opportunities for all students, regardless of physical ability or background, to participate and enjoy the event.
Let us continue to see Intramurals not just as a battlefield but as a platform to celebrate unity, diversity, and growth. When we cheer for our teams—whe––ther they’re the Green Lions, Yellow Tigers, Blue Jaguars, or Pink Panthers—let’s also cheer for the friendships, lessons, and memories we gain along the way.
After all, this is not just about winning medals; they are about winning hearts, building connections, and celebrating the vibrant campus life. Indeed, they are more than a competition— this is a journey of legacy, of unity, and growth.
