How was your Intramurals experience?

Very dramatic. Sad kasi yun nga natalo, from having the championship title to being a runner up. Pero still, hoping pa rin po for next year.

Not that good because of the weather disturbances, yung excitement po kasi is nababawasan kasi nga nadedelay. Pero the good thing po eh, we met new friends because we joined the same event for Intramurals

Sad because we are expecting better place. All in all, we’re still proud and happy because of the performance of our college. We know all of us did our best to represent CAHS with full pride and integrity and honesty. Mas masaya last year kasi champion, pero mas memorable din kasi ngayon kasi last intrams namin because mag iintern naman na din kami.

Masakit kasi nakakapagod. Last year was worth it yung cheer kasi nag pay off yung effort namin pero worth it din naman ngayon kasi ginalingan din talaga ng mga players natin. Masaya siya pero sa volleyball talaga kami pinaka nag enjoy

komiks.

Fueling the Champions

Behind every great team lies an unsung hero, working so hard to ensure that their success story is written. For the College of Allied Health Sciences (CAHS), that unsung hero was the Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics (BSND) who took on the crucial role of fueling Green Lions during the 2024 Andrews Intramurals. As the head of the Food Committee, the ND students played a role in ensuring that every athlete, every performer has all the energy to clinch the crown for CAHSians.

The BSND Food Committee has accepted the enormous responsibility of planning, preparing, and serving balanced meals and snacks for the Green Lions. Knowing how very important balanced nutrition was for each of these athlete’s performance, they served selected menus that were not only healthy but also appetizing

Junior Nutrition and Dietitics student Dyan Paula Domingo, served as Head of the Food Committee for the CAHS Green Lions “For this year, the Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics (BSND) was given the chance to head the food committee. Malaking responsibility ang binigay sa amin compared from last year. We did participate but in the backgrounds palang kasi inintroduce palang kung paano ginagawa ang foods for athletes ever since time and memorial. So this year, solely BSND po ang in-charge sa food po ng mga athletes”

The Committee also aimed to provide the right nutrients and macronutrients needed by the athletes, ensuring they received the proper amounts of carbohydrates and proteins to sustain them during their games, as well as giving the right amounts of food. This formidable team attended to everything from early morning snacks packed with vitamins and minerals for the energizing of representatives – hearty and wholesome meals meant to help them recover and remain strong throughout the day, ensuring that the Green Lions stayed at their prime and at their best at physical and mental levels and, hence, prepared for

challenges at any level in terms of field or court battles.

A standout feature of the committee was their commitment to using fresh, locally sourced ingredients. This ensured that the food served was of the highest quality and supported local farmers and producers, which created a sense of community and sustainability. Every dish prepared reflected the ND’s to their attention to detail and dedication to health and wellness.

The representatives of Green Lions themselves acknowledged the critical role played by the BSND Food Committee in their victory. Their hard work behind the scenes was a significant factor in the impressive performances of the Green Lions, who expressed gratitude for the delicious and nutritious meals that kept them fueled and focused. The symbiotic relationship between nutrition and athletic excellence was unmistakable in the Green Lion’s achievements.

Beyond the culinary skills they bring into the table, they also had excellent organizational and teamwork abilities that were very evident in the coordination of meal schedules, accommodating dietary preferences, and ensuring timely deliveryall while maintaining high standards.

“We are very happy that we were part of this success, kahit sa maliit na bagay nakatulong ang BSND sa ating CAHSian family, being the baby of the college. We are very thankful and honored, so next sana po is makatulong pa din kami, and they will still trust us on the food of our athletes.”

The efforts of the BSND Food Committee really bring into the limelight the

The Captain Leading CAH5 Victory

As the Intramural 2024 commences, the echoes of the previous four years championship title still rings loudly for the College of Allied Health Sci- ences (CAHS) Volleyball Men’s team, but this time, the stakes are higher and the pressure is heavier. Leading the charge to defend the title is team captain Vonn Micheal Maggay, a Junior Respiratory Therapy student whose passion fuels the team’s drive for an- other victorious run.

As a seasoned athlete, Vonn’s volleyball journey began in elemen tary school, where he footing as a Libero. It wasn’t until high school however that he re turned to the court in full force. His momentum may have halted because of the pandemic but his resilience shone through as he eventually be came the team captain of Tuguegarao City’s Volleyball team. This opened doors for him to play various teams and received awards such as Best Middle Blocker, making his reputa tion as a reliable and skilled player over theNow,years. as the captain of the CAHS volleyball team, Vonn faces the pressure of maintaining the team’s legacy, one that has seen CAHS this scene for years. But rather than succumbing to the weight of competition, he approached this challenge with confidence. With his ability to stay composed un- der fire and ability to rally his teammates in critical moments, he embodies the balance of strength and composure that championship teams are built on.

As the team aims to clinch its fifth title, it unshakable foundation of mutual trust and support of his team that he drew strength from. “I just re mind myself that I have teammates who trust me, so I should trust myself too. Besides, I’ve been play ing volleyball for a long time, so situations like this shouldn’t feel new to me anymore”. This camarade

rie built on a shared goal of playing for each other and for their fellow CAHSians, is what drives the team to push beyond their limits and fight for their deserved title.

Furthermore, the team’s preparation for Intramurals 2024 has been a test of endurance and discipline. From intense broken play drills to refined defensive patterns and defense strategy, the CAHS Volleyball Men’s Team has left no stone unturned.

As a student-athlete, Vonn also found ways to balance the demands of both these roles.

Though challenging especially during exams season, he ensures there’s still time for academic commitments. “Most of our training are half-day so we have time to work on our activities or review. However, if there are sudden deadlines, we just do them during breaks in the training. For the upcoming midterms, I already informed everyone to prepare in advance to ease the burden of review”, heAssays.someone who has long navigated both the challeng- es of competitive sports and the demands of student life. His advice to future athletes following in a similar footsteps, is clear and simple “Al- ways attend training, trust yourself and don’t listen to what others say”.Remaining steadfast and knowing that growth comes from within, with this as his mindset, it is clear why he continues to evolve not just as an un- wavering athlete but as a leader who motivates those around him to be their best, on and the court.

It is predominantly evi- dent, Vonn Maggay is ready to lead the Green Lions team to defend their grandslam crown. Under his captaincy, CAHS is poised to continue its traditional of excellenceboth on the court and in the heart of CAHSians.

The CAHSian Spirit

Out of unity, a new den was formed—clean, untainted,

Under a sky filled with gentle, hopeful lights, where stars shimmered like promises of renewal, the Green Lions’ students and teachers gathered, their bond shining brighter than the challenge they had faced. Although the competition did not end in their favor, there was no bitterness in their voices, only resilience in their hearts.

This den, the lion’s den, was not defined by medals but by the strength of their connection.Together, they looked up at the stars, finding hope in the heavens and in each other, as if the universe whispered, “This is not the end.” From the youngest cub to the most seasoned mentor, every soul carried the weight of their shared dream. It was not just about victory on the field but about creating a den—a sanctuary where integrity stood strong.

Above them, the intertwining loops told stories of laughter, sacrifices, sweat, and tears, all shaping the bond that brought their dreams to life. For four unforgettable days, the CAHSian community gave their all—not just in games but in camaraderie. They shared moments of joy and support, and these memories would remain in their hearts forever.

The pride of CAHSian students and faculty stood strong under the blazing sun, their cheers rising like a lion’s call, accompanied by pounding drums and glowing green lights. Amid the excitement, brave medics remained ready to respond, while teachers selflessly assisted other colleges, embodying the true spirit of community. These moments were like enduring flames, bringing light even in the darkest days.

The night air was filled with determination as they committed to rebuild. Teachers, the guardians of wisdom, reminded

their students that setbacks could become stepping stones. Students, with their youthful vigor, promised to carry the lessons of this night into every mountain they will climb. Together, they vowed to ensure their den remained strong, a beacon of hope and fairness for all.

Surrounded by the unwavering support of those who believed in them, they stood united. Their strength became one, and in that moment, the words rang out, spoken by one and echoed by all: “We are the Real CAHSian Community.” It wasn’t a declaration of victory, but a celebration of their bond, their pride in who they were, and the honor with which they played. In their unity, they found their true victory—not in the score, but in the integrity they carried every step of the way.

The Green Lions may not have reached the summit this time, but their spirit remained unshaken. They knew every point earned was with honesty, every move made with dignity. “It was all hard-earned,” they whispered, their voices filled with pride. “All of it was clean. Lions never play dirty.” These words, simple yet powerful, became their source of strength as they looked ahead, determined to build a stronger future.

And so, under that starry sky, a new chapter began. The Green Lions celebrated the success of everyone, knowing that the den they built was not just for themselves, but for all who believed in the power of unity, the beauty of fair play, and the strength of an untarnished spirit. As Dean Julius said, “Win or lose, we are still CAHSians, the college everyone is watching.” Together, the CAHSians shined brightly like the stars, becoming a guiding light for others to follow, united in effort and spirit.

More than a break

As banners are folded away and the last cheers echo into the night, the essence of intramu- rals lingers. To many, this week is seen as a temporary escape from the usual grind of lectures, exams, and relentless study sessions. The festive colors and the roar of the crowd momentarily transform the university into a vibrant play- ground. It’s easy to dismiss it as a mere distraction, especially with midterms looming over the heads of CAHSians. But the timing of this event forces us to confront an essential question: Is it worth the break?

The academic calendar is unforgiving. The pressure to excel weighs heavy on every student, the demand for perfec- tion pressing down with almost phys- ical force. Anxiety over exams hangs like a dark cloud over the Eunomia Building, and in the midst of this storm, intramural week becomes an undeniable contrast. Instead of silence in the library, we hear the booming cheers from the gym. Instead of frantic footsteps racing to the next exam, we see players confidently striding onto the field. This stark con trast is precisely why intramurals matter. It isn’t about abandoning our studies, but rather stepping back, catching our breath. This brief respite reminds us that the university experience is not just about grades and deadlines. It’s about balance, about understanding that life extends beyond the classroom. Intramurals offer a chance to experience this, learning that winning or losing is secondary to the lessons learned in the moment. We often talk about holistic development, but how often do we actually see it in practice? At its core, intramurals offer a real-world example of this very concept. Col- lege is not solely about academic achievement; it’s also about dis- covering who we are outside the confines of lectures and exams. Through competition, we learn respect, resilience, and leader- ship. We celebrate others’ victories as much as our own and channel setbacks into growth. We see

collaboration in action and witness the strength of working together toward a shared goal. No lecture can teach these values as effectively as the experience of being on the field.

But perhaps the most strik- ing feature of intramurals is the in- clusivity they foster. In a university as diverse as ours, students come from a wide range of programs and backgrounds. Intramurals become a rare space where differences are set aside, and a sense of unity takes center stage. For this brief moment, we are

disciplines, year levels, or personal interests. We come together with shared goals, mutual respect, and healthy competition. Intramurals also serve as a stage for talents that often remain hidden under the weight of aca- demic pressures. For many, these games provide an opportunity to showcase skills that may other- wise go unnoticed. The athlete who excels on the field is not just showing off their physical prowess, but reclaiming their confidence and passion in front of peers who might feel similarly unseen. For them, the tournaments are far more than games, they are a moment to shine.

However, it would be naive to ignore the argument that in- tramurals might be a distraction. With midterms following imme- diately after, the timing of this event might seem less than ideal. The weeks before exams should be dedicated to intense study, not to games. The interruption of this period for a week-long celebration could be perceived as counterpro- ductive, diverting attention away from the academic tasks that weigh heavily on every student’s mind. This is a valid concern. The stress of exams is real, and in the face of such pressure, the concept of “fun and games” may seem out of place. Yet, this is precisely why intramurals are more important than we often give them cred- it for. They remind us that life does not cease to exist outside the classroom, that we must strive to find balance even when the stakes are high. Intramurals are a powerful remind- er that the pursuit of academic success should not come at the cost of our well-being, and that sometimes, we need to step back to gain perspective. The CSUan Intramurals about fiery competition; they are a celebration of spirit, a demonstration of camaraderie. It’s a time when we momentarily set aside the burdens of our coursework and unite as a student body. Yes, the games may disrupt our carefully planned schedules, and yes, they may take away precious study return, they offer something intangible, a renewed sense of community, a reminder that we are part of something larg- er than ourselves.

In the end, the real question is not whether we should prioritize one over the other, but rather how we can strike a balance between academic rigor and the need for respite. The challenge lies in learn- ing to navigate both worlds with equal dedication and determina- tion. Because in the grand journey of becoming not just educated, but truly well-rounded individu- als, both academics and personal growth are equally essential. And sometimes, it is in these moments of pause, like Intramurals, that we gain strength to push forward

THE ANDREWS SPIRIT

The air crackled with anticipation, a symphony of nervous energy and excited chatter. The CSU Andrews Campus was abuzz. The Green Lions, them gleaming in the morning sun, practiced their synchronized cheers, their voices a powerful roar that echoed through the quad. The Yellow Tigers, a fierce and agile bunch, honed their skills, and etheir

The scent of freshly start of competition. The bleachers were already filling up, a sea of faces eager to witness the athletic prowess and camaraderie that the Intramurals would bring.

As the sun goes lower, the excitement reached a fever pitch. The opening ceremony was a spectacle of color and sound, a testament to the

WHEN THE CHEERS FADE

Time is up. The sands have run out.

The cheers and chants that once filled the stadium started to fade. The voices that echoed across the gymnasium began to dwindle. It’s done. The tension has finally subsided.

High-fives, post-game chatters, and laughter have replaced the fierce looks and glances. The heated battles and flamed arena became an avenue of friendships.

The shadows of their performances linger all throughout the room. The vibrance of their colors, now combined, will create a harmonious artwork that reflects the camaraderie formed in each game.

At this point, the leaderboard no longer mattered. Each corner no longer roared four yells that dominated one another, but rather turned into a unifying spirit that shares one goal.

Finally, the cats are back in the den. Together, they will soar as owls ready to expand their wings.

HERE WE ARE

It begins as a shiver, faint but electric, moving through the spine of a restless gathering. You feel it before you hear it the weight of waiting, the breath before the talk.

In the quiet, there is a heartbeat not your own, a pulse born from the collective thrill of wanting and believing.

And then, a cry cuts the air. Not one voice, but many, rising and falling like waves on the tide of a moment no one dares to name. It is not chaos, though it feels like it it is the breaking of walls, the stripping of pretense, a raw and guttural truth: we are alive.

You lose yourself in it, this orchestra of belief. point is scored, when the whistle blows and the echoes fade, the roar does not leave you. It stays, trembling in your chest, like a secret you are too afraid to forget. It hums in your blood, fleeting moment, you were part of something larger infinite, something that felt like true

You look around and see yourself in the faces of strangers, mouths open, eyes wild. You do not know their names. Their cheers became your cheers, their desperation mirrors your own. You don’t know when you joined them, when your voice became part of the roar, but now it is all that you are.

On the court, bodies move like prayers, hands reaching for something holy. Every stumble draws a gasp, every triumph, a flood. It is more than a game. It is the translation into motion, of fear into fire.

In the first set, CTE started strong but struggled with receiving errors, giving CAHS a slight advantage that they capitalized on, including a crucial point from Michael Joshua Guittu’s serve. Despite some missteps from CAHS, such as failed serves from Vonn Maggay and Martin Liban, the Green Lions kept their composure.

With the score tied at 20-all, a miscommunication between Liban and Guittu gave CTE hope. However,

outside attacks. Jeromy Concepcion’s quick sets powered CAHS’s offense, and strong blocks from Liban and Concepcion stopped CTE’s attackers.

Maggay orchestrated the offense, setting up powerful hits that left CTE scrambling. Even when CTE began catching up at 19-15 with quick sets from Captain Raniel Tangan, CAHS’s defense held firm. Concepcion’s serves and Guittu’s excellent sets sealed the deal, giving CAHS a 25-20 victory and a 2-1 advantage.

CAHS dominated the fourth set, quickly building a 9-3 lead as CTE struggled with failed sets and defensive lapses. Liban’s powerful block and Maggay’s relentless attacks sealed CTE’s fate despite a brief timeout.

CTE attempted to rally, bringing the score to 12-10, but a timeout from CAHS reset their momentum. Maggay’s precise spikes and Concepcion’s quick
