The Inland Northwest has long been a sought-after destination for homeowners and visitors. Nestled among pristine lakes, scenic mountain ranges, and thriving communities, this region offers a unique blend of natural beauty and investment potential. Each summer, the local real estate market experiences a surge in interest as vacationers turn into homebuyers, captivated by the laid-back lifestyle and the allure of lakefront and mountain properties.
Current Real Estate Trends
As of summer 2025, the real estate market in Bonners Ferry, Sandpoint, and Coeur d'Alene remains strong, though slightly different from the fast-paced growth seen in previous years. Median home prices in these areas have stabilized after rapid increases in the past decade, making it a favorable time for buyers.
Sandpoint, known for its proximity to Lake Pend Oreille and Schweitzer Mountain Resort, continues to attract those looking for a mix of year-round recreation and small-town charm. Waterfront properties remain highly desirable, with listings often selling within weeks. New developments along the lakeshore and surrounding forested areas cater to seasonal residents and permanent homeowners.
The market in Coeur d'Alene is experiencing a slight cooling after years of exponential growth. While luxury waterfront estates remain in high demand, there is an increasing interest in mid-range homes as more families and retirees relocate from larger metropolitan areas. The city's lively downtown, growing job market, and numerous recreational opportunities make it a prime choice for those seeking a balanced lifestyle.
Real estate trends in the area shift with the seasons, and summer is a prime time for transactions. Warmer weather brings an influx of visitors, many of whom fall in love with the region and begin exploring real estate opportunities. Simultaneously, sellers list properties during peak tourist months to capitalize on increased demand. Whether looking for a vacation rental, a second home, or a permanent residence, buyers are drawn to the Inland Northwest for its balance of adventure and tranquility. But how exactly does tourism shape the real estate market, and what should buyers and investors keep in mind this summer? Let’s explore the current trends, market dynamics, and key insights for those considering a real estate investment in this picturesque region.

With Idaho’s relatively low property taxes compared to neighboring states, the Inland Northwest is a lucrative market for those looking to invest in rental properties or seasonal residences.
Bonners Ferry, traditionally known for its rural appeal, is seeing a gradual rise in interest, particularly from buyers looking for larger land parcels and self-sustaining properties. As remote work continues to offer flexibility, more individuals consider northern Idaho a viable alternative to city living.
Overall, vacation rentals and second homes remain key drivers of real estate demand. With Idaho’s relatively low property taxes compared to neighboring states, the Inland Northwest is a lucrative market for those looking to invest in rental properties or seasonal residences.
Impact of Tourism on Real Estate
Tourism plays a crucial role in shaping the real estate market in Bonners Ferry, Sandpoint, and Coeur d’Alene. The summer months bring an influx of visitors, many of whom choose to extend their stays, renting properties for weeks or even months at a time. This seasonal demand boosts the short-term rental market, with platforms like Airbnb and Vrbo experiencing peak bookings from June through September.
Sandpoint, in particular, thrives on tourism, with visitors drawn to its waterfront activities, music festivals, and scenic hiking trails. The thriving tourism scene has led to increased investment in vacation rentals, driving up property values and making short-term rentals a profitable venture. As a result, many homeowners are purchasing properties specifically for seasonal leasing, creating a competitive market for rental-ready homes.
Coeur d’Alene’s tourism economy, fueled by its world-class golf courses, waterfront resorts, and summer events like the Ironman competition, contributes significantly to its local real estate landscape. Many outof-state visitors, especially from California and Washington, come for vacation and leave with property listings in hand, keen on securing a second home near Lake Coeur d’Alene.
Even Bonners Ferry, a quieter gem, benefits from travelers looking to explore the Kootenai National Wildlife Refuge or experience rural Idaho’s charm. The growing interest in agritourism and sustainable living has led to an increase in demand for properties with acreage, further strengthening the real estate market.
However, the rise in short-term rentals has also sparked discussions about housing availability and affordability for local residents. Some areas have introduced regulations to balance the interests of fulltime homeowners and seasonal investors. For buyers and investors, understanding local policies on vacation rentals is essential before making a purchase.
Understand Seasonal Demand
• Properties near lakes and recreational hubs tend to appreciate in value, especially if they cater to summer tourists.
• Short-term rental investors should analyze occupancy rates and rental income potential before purchasing a property.
Factor in Local Regulations
• Some areas have implemented restrictions on short-term rentals to preserve community balance. Ensure compliance with local ordinances before investing in an Airbnb property.
Leverage Market Timing
• Summer is the busiest time for real estate transactions. While competition may be higher, it’s also the best time to explore available properties in peak condition.
• Buyers looking for deals may find better opportunities in early fall when the tourist season slows down.
feature REAL ESTATE & TOURISM
Real estate and tourism are inextricably linked in the Inland Northwest, making summer a pivotal season for buyers, investors, and homeowners. As visitors flock to the region for its breathtaking scenery and outdoor recreation, many fall in love with the lifestyle and begin considering real estate opportunities. Whether investing in a vacation rental, purchasing a second home, or relocating permanently, understanding seasonal trends and market dynamics is essential.
For those looking to capitalize on the Inland Northwest’s thriving real estate scene, now is the time to explore opportunities, connect with local experts, and make informed decisions. As summer 2025 unfolds, the region offers a unique blend of adventure, relaxation, and investment potential—making it one of the most desirable places to live and invest in the Inland Northwest.
Rustic Roots to Urban Estates
Creativity, craftsmanship, and connection shape every space
provided by LOFT THIRTY ONE
Step inside LOFT THIRTY ONE, and it’s clear—this is more than a design firm. It’s a full-service interior design studio, furniture and décor showroom, and material sourcing destination, all wrapped in one inspired space.
Founded by husband-and-wife team Jodie and Wes Chapman, this North Idaho-based studio has grown far beyond its roots in Ponderay. Their work now spans across Texas, Arizona, Montana, Tennessee, Florida, and, of course, Idaho—proving that creativity has no borders.
LOFT THIRTY ONE is known for its “dirt to décor” approach, designing everything from custom homes to standout commercial spaces. Whether building from the ground up or reimagining a single room, their process is collaborative and detail-driven, always starting with listening and then dreaming big.
One standout project? The Big House—a 27,000-square-foot Arizona estate complete with a hidden speakeasy, underground shooting range, and custom design throughout. It broke real estate records, but for Jodie, the reward was the creative freedom and strong client connection. “That project was wild,” she says, “but it’s always about the relationships.”
Back in Ponderay, the showroom reflects their well-blended style— sparkling chandeliers, rich textures, bold moments and unexpected finds that spark inspiration.
What many don’t realize? LOFT THIRTY ONE is also a one-stop shop for materials and finishes. From flooring and tile to cabinets, lighting, hardware, and plumbing fixtures, they support residential and commercial projects of all sizes and budgets. Whether clients need a single piece or a full plan, the team meets them where they are.
So, what’s inspiring the team now? “Timeless design with heart,” says Jodie. “Natural materials, aged woods, cozy leathers, and bold textures that invite you to settle in.” Think backlit onyx, color-drenched rooms, statement ceilings, and sculptural hardware—all layered with intention.
With new story-driven projects on the horizon, LOFT THIRTY ONE is just getting started—building beauty from the ground up, with heart, grit, and a little sparkle.

BUILD YOUR PERFECT DAY
IN ONE OF IDAHO’S MOST
INVITING MOUNTAIN TOWNS
In Sandpoint, no two visits look the same. One person might ease into the day with a smoothie and a walk by the water. Another might hit a hiking trail before breakfast. Some head straight to the lake, while others drift between shops and local cafés. However you like to travel, this town lets you move at your own pace—and every turn leads somewhere worth exploring.
Start your morning with a peaceful stroll on the Sand Creek Trail, where the water stays calm and the morning sun warms the path. The trail is paved and easy to follow, running right alongside downtown and offering an early glimpse of the lake. If you're looking for something more active, head to one of the nearby trailheads—Mickinnick provides a moderate challenge with rewarding views of the lake and mountains. At the same time, the Syringa Trails and Pine Street Woods offer a more relaxed way to get outdoors and enjoy the scenery.
If breakfast is the first stop, swing by Heart Bowls. This bright little spot downtown is a go-to for smoothie bowls, fresh juices, and clean breakfast options that don’t skimp on flavor. It’s a healthy start that feels just right before a day of walking, paddling, or sightseeing.

By midday, Sandpoint settles into a steady rhythm. You can rent a paddleboard or kayak at City Beach, explore the shoreline, or grab a shady spot in the park and watch boats glide by. Prefer to stay dry? Pop into local shops downtown or visit the Bonner County History Museum for a quick dive into the area’s story.
When lunch rolls around, Jalapeños is a solid bet. It’s casual, fast, and full of color—from the décor to the dishes. The portions are generous, the margaritas are cold, and the menu has something for everyone. Sit outside if the weather’s nice, and take your time.
As the afternoon stretches on, consider heading out for a drive. The roads around Sandpoint offer wide-open views and unexpected gems. The Pack River Road winds through a quiet forest with river access and pull-offs, or you can take a loop around the lake through Sagle and Hope for a scenic cruise with plenty of places to stop.
In town, dinner is where things start to wind down—or pick up, depending on your style. For something elevated but comfortable, 113 Main is a standout. With a rotating seasonal menu, craft cocktails, and a setting that blends vintage charm with modern touches, it’s a great place to relax, reconnect, and eat well. The menu changes often, but you’ll always find thoughtful pairings and locally sourced ingredients.
When the sun dips behind the mountains, the town doesn’t go to sleep. Head over to the 219 Lounge, where the drinks are strong, the crowd is local, and the music brings the room to life. It’s one of Sandpoint’s longest-running bars, known for its character and live shows. Depending on the night, you might catch a solo acoustic set or a full band on stage.
Not in the mood for a crowd? Take the quieter route and walk back to the water. The lake always looks different at night, reflecting the lights of downtown and the stars above. There’s no rush here. Just a sense that you’re exactly where you should be.
However you decide to spend your time, Sandpoint makes it easy to enjoy the day. From paddleboard sessions and scenic drives to good food and live music, every corner of town offers something worth exploring.
Didn’t get to it all? That’s just one more reason to come back.
Beeracuda Boat Rentals & Wheels-n-Waves Bring the Best to North Idaho
Locally owned and passion-driven, making lake life unforgettable
by LIKE MEDIA TEAM
Summer in North Idaho is more than just a season; it’s a lifestyle. With its glassy lakes, endless sunshine, and mountain backdrops, it’s no wonder locals and visitors alike seek every opportunity to get outside and make the most of it. Chasing thrill or chill? The lake is calling—and thanks to Beeracuda Boat Rentals and Wheels-n-Waves, answering that call has never been easier (or more fun).
These two businesses, owned by Sandpoint locals Jon and Tone Stolz, have become staples for North Idaho’s summer seekers. What began as a creative side hustle quickly turned into something much bigger. “You could say I stumbled into the boating industry,” Jon says. “When I moved back to Sandpoint and realized a need for more rental options, an old buddy and I started renting out our personal boats. It was kind of like a boat version of Airbnb.”
What started as a side gig has grown into Beeracuda Boat Rentals, a thriving operation based out of Dover Bay Resort. Its fleet of 11 boats is built for every kind of lake day, from laid-back lounging to water-sport adventures. When their original partner retired in 2022, Jon and Tone took over the business entirely and expanded it to meet growing demand.
“We pride ourselves on offering a diverse fleet of pontoon boats,” Jon says. The lineup includes high-performance tritoons with 150–200 HP Mercury engines, Bluetooth stereos, ski poles, Bimini tops, and
even boats with built-in slides. “Whether you want to cruise, play, or do a little of both, we’ve got you covered,” he adds.
That personalized experience is part of what makes Beeracuda stand out. Friendly, knowledgeable team members guide renters through the process, starting with Jon’s sister-in-law, Tanjee Ferguson, who helps match customers to their ideal boat. Once on-site, staff like Laura and Clayton Laude or Sidney Brown handle orientation and safety overviews, ensuring every guest is confident and ready to hit the water.
And they don’t stop at Dover Bay. Beeracuda offers boat delivery within 150 miles, including Hayden Lake, Spirit Lake, and Priest Lake, with further delivery options available upon request. Extras like towable tubes, lily pads, water skis, and stocked with ice coolers are available to elevate the experience even more!
“All of our boats come equipped with Bluetooth sound systems so you can set the perfect vibe for your day,” Jon adds. “We treat each customer like family because we want them to have an unforgettable day on the lake.”
That same customer-first mindset inspired the launch of Wheels-nWaves, a pontoon dealership based in Sagle. Here, boat lovers can go from renting to owning—literally. The businesses work together to offer a “rent-to-buy” experience, allowing customers to test the
exact boat model through Beeracuda Boat Rentals before deciding to purchase through Wheels-n-Waves.
“If someone falls in love with the boat they rented, we can help them buy that exact model,” says Jon. “There’s nothing better than knowing exactly what you’re getting—and knowing you already love it.”
Wheels-n-Waves is the exclusive regional dealer for Aloha Pontoons, a family-owned brand that has been building innovative boats since 1960. “They’re known for their solid construction and unique designs, like being one of the first to introduce the upper sundeck on a pontoon,” shares Jon. The dealership also carries EZ Loader Trailers, PUD Pro Trailers and Edge Aluminum Boats, giving buyers various quality options.
From layout selection and upgrades to financing and delivery, Jon and his team are with customers every step of the way and remain available for support long after the sale. “It’s not just about selling a boat,” Jon says. “It’s about building relationships and keeping people on the water for years to come.”
For Jon and Tone, it's all about community and connection. “We love this place and the people in it,” they share. “Being able to share these lakes and help others create their own memories out here—that’s what makes it all worth it.”
To book your next lake adventure or explore boat ownership, visit BeeracudaBoatRentals.com or stop by Wheels-n-Waves at 43 Algoma Place in Sagle, Idaho.

Field of Dreams
PONDERAY, IDAHO
A COMMUNITY VISION COMING TO LIFE
Located at 100 Oneida Drive in Ponderay, Idaho, the Field of Dreams Recreation Complex is a 50acre facility created from a vision decades in the making. A dream that began over 30 years ago has become a reality for Bonner County, introducing a beautiful new space for all ages to play, grow, and engage with their community.
Introduced as a phased project supported by Ponderay’s 1% Local Option Tax, the Field of Dreams is a multi-phase sports and recreation project designed to accommodate flexible spaces for community recreation. These include sports courts for pickleball, tennis, baseball and basketball, plus batting cages and bullpens. Once complete, the facility will include a pavilion, picnic plazas, a playground, and space for food truck parking, along with restrooms, concession stands, and more.
The first phase, completed in August of 2024, revealed multiple fully lit artificial turf sports fields designed to accommodate a variety of sports for all ages, plus a completed restroom and concessions facility.
According to findings by the city of Ponderay, the vision for the Field of Dreams Recreation complex dates back to 1993, when two members of the Sandpoint Soccer Association, Floyd McGhee and Mike Read, shared their vision for a regional sports complex in Ponderay. Their vision for the McGhee Sports Complex turned into the project that we now call the Field of Dreams.
In 1994, the North Idaho/Ponderay Youth Sports Association formed as a 501(c)3 non-profit organization to create the sports complex McGhee and Read envisioned, establishing the “Field of Dreams” on donated farmland in 1995, which hosted its first event that June.
The decadeslong vision of Ponderay residents is becoming realized, and the results are said to be better than imagined.”
Despite initial success, development costs and a lack of irrigation led to difficulties moving the project forward. In 2011, Ponderay acquired the property, and after years of planning and funding efforts, including a local option tax passed in 2019, Phase 1 of the Field of Dreams development began construction in 2023.
The next phases of the project will introduce more of the Field of Dreams’ facilities and recreational offerings, including plans for a playground, tennis courts, baseball field, sand volleyball fields, multi-use trails, and more. A third phase has the potential to expand further on the property’s picnic areas, field house and event center; it is also expected to introduce additional exciting features like an indoor pool and ice skating rink.
The possibilities for community fun, athletics and engagement with the Field of Dreams are endless, thanks to the support of community members working together toward a shared vision.
The decades-long vision of Ponderay residents is becoming realized, and the results are said to be better than imagined. An investment in the quality of life for the youth and families of the area, the Field of Dreams offers something priceless: a safe place for kids to gather and play, along with a dedicated space for families to enjoy their time together.
The Field of Dreams is aptly named, representing local visionaries’ dreams coming to life to benefit the entire community. Follow along at CityofPonderay.org/field-of-dreams with the City of Ponderay as more of the Field of Dreams project comes to life!
Moms in Prayer: A Mother’s
Faith Unleashed
Fern Nichols and the gospel that reaches millions
by STEVE RUSSO
Publisher’s Note: This article offers an insider's and personal look at a global movement's humble start. As Margaret Mead said, "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has." One mother's faith in Jesus casts a stone that rippled worldwide, proving Mother Teresa's words: "I alone cannot change the world, but I can cast a stone across the waters to create many ripples."
Some movements are born on stages. Others begin on their knees. This one started with a whisper to God—and it never stopped echoing.
“God will take us to a place where we only have one option, and that’s to look up.”
—Fern Nichols
A Cry From the Kitchen Table
It didn’t begin with a ministry plan, donor base, or strategic blueprint.
It began with a mother’s prayers.
In 1984, at her kitchen table in Abbotsford, British Columbia, Fern Nichols felt an ache that many mothers know too well—an ache for her children’s future. Her two oldest sons, Tyrone and Troy, were heading into junior high school, and her heart was heavy with fear. She saw a spiritual battlefield ahead and knew she couldn’t shield them from it alone.
So she did what few dared to do in desperation—she looked up from her knees and prayed to God for insight, inspiration, and peace.
And then she picked up the phone.
“I called another mom,” Fern remembers. “I just said, ‘Will you pray with me for our children and their school?’ She said yes. That was all it took.”
Together, two moms began praying weekly—no coffee, no snacks, no small talk—just open Bibles, humble hearts, and the conviction that Jesus hears the prayers of mothers.
John 14:13-14 (ESV):
“Whatever you ask in my name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask me anything in my name, I will do it.”
They prayed for their children, teachers, principals, classmates, coaches, and especially the school bus driver.
“We’re in a battle,” Fern said during our conversation, her voice still strong and resolute at 79. “So we pray with purpose— just like Jesus taught.”
From that quiet beginning, the ripples began.
“Whatever you ask in my name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask me anything in my name, I will do it.”
-John 14:13-14 (ESV)
A Movement Was Born
A former teacher and veteran of 15 years with Campus Crusade for Christ alongside her husband, Rle, Fern knew the Gospel's power. With four children—Tyrone, Troy, Travis, and Trisha—her mission turned personal.
A single phone call between two moms soon became a global prayer movement. With Bibles open, they stormed heaven together. And from that one act of faith, a global movement was born: Moms in Prayer International. That movement is now active in every U.S. state and over 150 countries, under the leadership of President Sally Burke.
When the Nichols family relocated to Poway, California, the following year, the prayers continued and began to spread. Fern invited more moms. The groups multiplied. The burden was universal. The solution remained simple: no plan, no fundraising, no goals, just purposeful prayer.
Moms in Prayer is one hour weekly: praising God, confessing quietly, thanking Jesus, and praying for kids and schools—a beacon of hope turning fears to faith.
The Movement That Grew on Its Knees
By 1986, Fern had introduced a clear, repeatable structure that continues to define today's movement: Praying the Four Steps of Prayer.
• Praising God for who He is
• Silent confession to cleanse hearts
• Thanksgiving for what He’s done
• Intercession—for children, teachers, staff, and schools
This isn't a social hour or a parenting support group. It’s spiritual warfare.
“There’s a reason we don’t have snacks,” Fern says. “This isn’t about small talk. It’s about going to war in prayer.”
That spiritual clarity, combined with a reproducible format and deeply biblical roots, fueled the movement’s expansion. Word spread through churches and Christian radio.
The breakthrough came when Fern was interviewed on Focus on the Family with Dr. James Dobson, introducing Moms in Prayer to a national audience.
Suddenly, letters and phone calls poured in. Mothers across the country and around the world asked, “How can we start a group?”
Every single inquiry was answered. Focus on the Family mailed out booklets after the broadcast, while Fern personally responded to every letter she received.

A Structure Modeled After Jesus
Without an office, staff, or budget, she wrote resources, developed leader guides, and coached women across state and national borders. Her educational background and years serving with Campus Crusade for Christ gave her tools, but her faith fueled her.
Initially called “Moms In Touch,” the organization later changed its name to “Moms in Prayer International.”
A major part of Moms in Prayer’s lasting impact comes from its intentional structure, modeled after how Jesus taught His disciples to pray. Every meeting follows four clear, God-centered steps—designed to focus the heart and elevate faith.
Moms learn to pray not merely about their anxieties but through the lens of who God is—His holiness, mercy, sovereignty, and love. This Christcentered approach anchors each prayer in truth, removes distractions, and strengthens purpose.
“We’re not there for fellowship,” Fern says. “We’re there to bring our children before the throne of grace.”
God
Will Take Us to a Place
Over the years, Moms in Prayer faced resistance—skeptical school districts, financial strain, logistical obstacles—but Fern never thought of quitting.
“When things were hard,” she says, “God would remind me: I will take you to a place where your only option is to look up.”
And she did.
She clung to the promise of Matthew 19:26: “With God, all things are possible.”
And again and again, she saw God move—miraculous donations, divine connections, and moms finding each other in the most unexpected corners of the world.
“I just wanted my sons to know Jesus,” Fern says. “I never dreamed He would shake the world.”
A Global Call to Christ
Fern carried her cry worldwide, teaching moms to storm heaven. She recalls a Kenyan mother weeping, “Jesus heard me.” Fern’s books—Mom’s Little Book of Powerful Prayers and When Moms Pray Together: True Stories of God’s Power to Transform Your Child—share His answers. Her Bible study, Igniting a Passion to Pray, draws women to Him. “Moms want our kids in His love,” she writes.
Today, Moms in Prayer groups meet in more than 150 countries, and their resources are translated into over 60 languages. The mission continues to grow from Kenya to Korea, Poland to Peru.
At 79, Fern is still active in Moms in Prayer. She’s been married to her husband, Rle, for 58 years, and they have 10 grandchildren. Her life reflects the gentle humility and deep faith that started it all.
“I never said ‘me,’’ she says. “It’s always God. And the amazing women He called to walk this with me.”
Empowering the Praying Mom
If there’s one core message Fern wants every mom to know, it’s this: You don’t have to go at this alone.
Kindergarten or college, struggling or thriving— no matter the season your child is in, God calls you to stand in the gap. Moms in Prayer offers more than just a structure—it provides strength, support, and a circle of women who understand the power of prayer.
“I just wanted my sons to know Jesus,” Fern says. “I never dreamed He would shake the world.”
But He did—through one praying mother, another, and millions more.
A Legacy That Keeps Spreading
Today, the movement’s mission is as focused as ever: Moms in Prayer International impacts children and schools worldwide for Christ by gathering mothers to pray.
Its vision is bold: that every school in the world would be covered in prayer.
The purpose is simple, but profound:
• To stand in the gap for our children through prayer
• To pray that our children receive Jesus and walk boldly in faith
• To pray for teachers, coaches, and staff
• To pray that schools are guided by biblical values and moral truth
• To offer support to moms carrying heavy burdens
And it still begins the way it did in 1984—with a humble mother looking up and asking someone to pray with her.
“Little did we realize that ordinary moms, releasing God’s power through prayer, were about to birth a worldwide prayer movement.”
—Fern Nichols
One Stone Across the Water
From a kitchen table in Canada to gatherings in every corner of the globe, Fern Nichols’ story reminds us that God often works through the available, not just the accomplished. She never sought a platform or a movement; she just wanted to protect her children.
And in that surrender, God wrote a bigger story.
Today, if you’re overwhelmed, unsure, or afraid for your child’s future, Fern’s journey reminds us: look up from your knees and ask God what He should have you do about it.
One hour a week. Four steps. Countless miracles.
“What God has done through this ministry,” Fern writes, “is living proof that He hears our prayers and responds.”
One hour a week.
Four steps.
Countless miracles.

Recreating Safely in the Summer
Tips from an emergency department nurse
by KRISTIN CARLSON, MARKETING MANAGER, BONNER GENERAL HEALTH
Summer in Sandpoint brings outdoor adventures but also increases the risk of injuries. To help keep you safe this season, we spoke with Henry Magdun, RN, one of our ER nurses at Bonner General Health, who shared his tips on preventing common summer injuries.
Common Summer Injuries—What are the most common injuries in the summer months?
“We see a lot of lacerations and orthopedic injuries. Many are preventable by staying aware of your surroundings, especially during high-risk activities like biking, water skiing, or hiking. And never mix alcohol with these activities—it’s a recipe for disaster. Last year, we also saw severe reactions to yellow jacket stings, which were particularly aggressive.”
Boating Safety—What boating-related injuries do you see, and how can they be avoided?
“Most injuries happen around the dock, where people trip or get cut on metal brackets. Always ensure the boat is securely fastened before boarding, and use the ladder to climb back in if you’ve been swimming. Never swim near a boat with the motor running, as the propeller can cause serious injury. Also, be sure your boat is suitable for the conditions and that everyone wears a life jacket—ALWAYS.” Swimming in Lake Pend Oreille—What are the safety concerns for swimming there?
“The currents in rivers that flow into the lake, like the Pack River, can be strong and cold, especially in spring and early summer. Obstacles like downed trees and large rocks can also create dangerous situations.
Always check water conditions before swimming, and consider going with someone familiar with the area.”
Injuries in Remote Areas—What should people do if they get injured while hiking or biking in remote areas?
“First, take a first aid class and carry basic supplies in your car and backpack. If you’re going somewhere with no cell service, consider an emergency satellite communication tool like InReach. Alert emergency services immediately if you’re seriously hurt—quick response is key, as remote injuries often require search and rescue.”
Safety Tips for Families—What safety tips should families remember for activities like swimming, biking, or camping?
“Helmets and life jackets are essential. Whether biking, swimming, or camping, make sure your child wears them to prevent preventable injuries. Kids need safety gear—being alive is cool!”
Final Thoughts - Any final tips for staying safe this summer?
“The key is staying aware of your surroundings and the risks of your activities. Whether hiking, swimming, biking, or boating, being prepared makes all the difference. Slow down, follow safety guidelines, and avoid alcohol during activities. With a little caution, you can ensure your summer is filled with fun, not trips to the ER.”
By following these simple tips, you can enjoy everything Sandpoint has to offer while staying safe. A little preparation goes a long way in preventing accidents.

Questions to ask your financial advisor FINANCIAL FOCUS®
This
article
was written
by Edward Jones for use by your local Edward Jones Financial Advisor Caleb Bowman
You should always be able to ask as many questions as you’d like when working with your financial advisor. So, before you have your annual review, think carefully about what you’d like to ask.
Here are a few suggestions:
• Are my goals still realistic? When you first began working with your financial advisor, you may have articulated several financial goals. For example, you might have said that you wanted to pay for most of your children’s college education, or that you’d like to retire at age 55, or that you hope to travel internationally every year during retirement. In fact, you could have many different goals for which you’re saving and investing. When you meet with your financial advisor, you’ll certainly want to ask whether you’re still on track toward meeting these goals. If you are, you can continue with the financial strategies you’ve been following, but if you aren’t, you may need to adjust them. The same is true if your goals have changed. You and your financial advisor will want to build a strategy to address any new or different goals, such as emergency cash needs, having adequate insurance protection, or estate planning.
• Am I taking on too much — or too little — risk? Put market declines in perspective. The financial markets always fluctuate, and these movements will affect the value of your investment portfolio. Suppose you watch the markets closely every day and track their impact on your investments. You may fret over their value and wonder whether you’re taking on too much investment risk for your comfort level. Conversely, if during an extended period of market gains your own portfolio appears to be lagging, you might feel that you
should be investing more aggressively, which entails greater risk. In any case, it’s important to consult with your financial advisor to determine your risk tolerance and use it as a guideline for making investment choices.
• How will changes in my life affect my investment strategy? Your life is not static. Over the years, you may experience any number of major events, such as marriage, remarriage, loss of a spouse, birth of children or grandchildren, changing jobs, or illness leading to early retirement. When you meet with your financial advisor, you will want to discuss these types of changes because they can affect your long-term goals and your investment decisions.
• How are external forces affecting my investment portfolio? Generally speaking, you will want to create an investment strategy based on your goals, risk tolerance, and time horizon. As mentioned, you may need to adjust your strategy based on changes in your life. But should you also make changes based on outside forces, such as interest rate movements, political events, inflation, new tax legislation, or news affecting industries in which you have invested substantially? Try not to make long-term investment decisions based on short-term news. Yet, talk with your financial advisor to make sure your investment portfolio and spending strategy are not out of alignment with relevant external factors.
By making these and other inquiries, you can help yourself stay informed about your overall investment picture and what moves, if any, you should make to keep advancing toward your goals. A financial advisor is there to provide you with valuable guidance — so take full advantage of it.

THE CONNECTION BETWEEN BEAUTY AND WELL-BEING
Unlocking the secrets to health, confidence, and natural glow
Beauty is more than skin deep—it reflects overall well-being. The link between aesthetics and health goes beyond physical appearance, encompassing mental, emotional, and physiological factors. True beauty emerges when individuals nurture their bodies from within, fostering a harmonious balance between health and aesthetics. By adopting holistic wellness practices, individuals can achieve a radiant appearance and a more fulfilling and confident life.
Aesthetics, in the context of health and beauty, refers to an individual's visual appeal, including skin quality, hair vitality, body composition, and overall radiance. However, true aesthetics are deeply intertwined with internal health. Scientific studies have shown that well-nourished bodies exhibit healthier skin, stronger hair, and a vibrant glow. Personal perception of appearance also influences confidence and self-esteem, playing a vital role in mental well-being.
According to dermatologists and wellness experts, factors such as hydration, proper nutrition, physical activity, and making healthier lifestyle choices significantly impact how people look and feel. A holistic approach to aesthetics focuses on external appearance and the internal processes that sustain it.
A well-balanced diet is a cornerstone of beauty and health. Essential nutrients work at the cellular level to support skin elasticity, hair strength, and overall vitality. The following key nutrients contribute to enhanced aesthetics:
• Vitamin C: Supports collagen production, promoting firm and youthful skin (found in citrus fruits, bell peppers, and strawberries).
• Vitamin E: Acts as an antioxidant, protecting skin from environmental damage (found in nuts, seeds, and avocados).
• Omega-3 Fatty Acids: Improve skin hydration and reduce inflammation (found in fatty fish, flaxseeds, and walnuts).
• Biotin: Strengthens hair and nails (found in eggs, almonds, and sweet potatoes).
• Zinc: Aids in skin repair and reduces acne (found in pumpkin seeds, lentils, and beef).
Incorporating nutrient-dense foods into daily meals can significantly enhance one's natural beauty while promoting longterm health.
Exercise is also essential for maintaining overall health and improving physical aesthetics. Regular physical activity enhances circulation, delivering oxygen and nutrients to skin cells, contributing to a youthful and glowing complexion. Additionally, movement supports muscle tone and posture, which affect appearance.
Recommended exercises for health and beauty include:
• Yoga: Reduces stress and promotes flexibility, which enhances posture and skin clarity.
• Strength Training: Builds lean muscle, creating a sculpted and toned appearance.
• Cardiovascular Exercise: Boosts blood flow, oxygenating skin and promoting a natural glow.
Embracing Your Natural Beauty This Summer
Keep your routine minimal and carefree
Bri Williams, WHNP-BC Refined Aesthetics Med Spa, pllc SandpointMedSpa.com 215 Cedar St., Sandpoint 208.304.7535
This summer, ditch the heavy makeup and celebrate your natural beauty with tinted sunscreen! Here’s why you should make the switch:
• Sun Protection: Tinted sunscreen offers essential UV protection while evening out your skin tone.
• Dewy Glow: Achieve a fresh, luminous look without the weight of traditional makeup.
• Lightweight Feel: Enjoy breathable coverage that allows your skin to shine through.
• Quick Application: Perfect for on-the-go beauty, just apply and go!
• Confidence Boost: Embrace your unique features and let your natural beauty radiate.
Stay radiant and carefree this summer, and keep your makeup routine minimal!
By integrating movement into daily life, individuals can maintain a healthy physique while enhancing their natural aesthetics.
Emotional health also significantly influences physical beauty. Chronic stress, anxiety, and lack of sleep can contribute to premature aging, dull skin, and breakouts. Prioritizing mental well-being fosters a balanced and radiant appearance.
Effective practices for emotional balance include:
• Mindfulness and Meditation: Reduces stress hormones that contribute to skin inflammation.
• Deep Breathing Exercises: Enhances oxygen circulation, which benefits skin clarity.
• Adequate Sleep: Supports cellular repair, preventing signs of aging.
• Self-Care Rituals: Journaling, aromatherapy, or spa treatments can enhance relaxation and inner peace.
The body naturally reflects vitality and beauty when the mind is at ease.
Skincare is not merely about aesthetics; it reflects internal well-being. A healthy skin barrier protects against environmental aggressors, prevents premature aging, and maintains hydration. A well-rounded skincare routine should emphasize nourishment and protection.
Key skincare practices include:
• Using Gentle Cleansers: Preserves the skin’s natural oils and maintains a healthy microbiome.
• Applying Sunscreen Daily: Shields against the UV damage that accelerates aging.
• Choosing Clean Beauty Products: Opting for chemical-free, natural skincare reduces exposure to harmful ingredients.
• Hydrating Regularly: Moisturizers with hyaluronic acid help maintain skin’s elasticity.
A thoughtful skincare regimen and a nutrient-rich diet ensure skin remains vibrant and resilient.
Hydration is a fundamental element of health and beauty. Water is essential for flushing out toxins, maintaining skin elasticity, and preventing dryness. Dehydration can lead to dullness, fine lines, and a lackluster complexion.
To maintain optimal hydration levels:
• Drink at least eight glasses of water daily.
• Consume hydrating foods like cucumbers, watermelon, and celery.
• Limit dehydrating beverages such as caffeine and alcohol.
• Use hydrating skincare products to lock in moisture.
Individuals can enhance their skin’s natural radiance and overall vitality by prioritizing hydration.
True beauty emerges from a synergy between aesthetics and wellbeing. Individuals can achieve a radiant and healthy appearance by embracing a holistic lifestyle that includes proper nutrition, physical activity, mental wellness, and skincare. Beauty is not simply about external features—it is a reflection of internal health and selfcare choices. With this knowledge, it becomes an intentional and rewarding choice to prioritize complete health, embrace your natural beauty, and cultivate habits that enhance both wellness and aesthetics.

Bringing Your Perfect Landscape to Life
“We’ve loved working with DreamScapes. After a major remodel, our front yard didn’t match the property, and we wanted a low-maintenance design for the front. Ira brought creative ideas to our planning meetings—many we hadn’t considered!
A highlight was shopping with Ira for water features, a stone bridge, and “statement boulders.” His knowledge of stone yards was impressive, and he offered great preselected options while considering our preferences. The natural pillar and bowl water feature he designed now greets guests as they arrive.
Ira also took us to nurseries, where his expertise made plant, grass, and tree decisions stress-free and enjoyable.
Ira and his team were fantastic, staying with the project to completion and ensuring we were satisfied. They replaced a wall, created beautiful meandering paver walkways, handled lighting design and installation, and improved our irrigation system with individual drip sprinklers for every plant.
Our neighbors love the landscape, and we highly recommend DreamScapes to anyone lucky enough to work with them!”
- Mark & Mary J.

There’s nothing like a North Idaho summer to inspire movement. In Sandpoint, families can take full advantage of Lake Pend Oreille with paddleboarding, swimming, or skipping rocks along the shore. Plan an evening stroll along the Sandpoint City Beach or take the bikes on the Pend d’Oreille Bay Trail. Early mornings and late evenings offer cooler temps for playtime, a perfect opportunity for families to wind down together. Staying active this summer is as easy as stepping outside and soaking in the natural beauty around you.
