FALLFace FORWARD:

Top Aesthetic Trends & Treatments to Know

Personalized care for every face & every phase

by LIKE MEDIA TEAM

As the air turns cooler, skin often responds with dryness, sensitivity, and dullness. This shift calls for more than just a heavier moisturizer—it’s time for a full skincare reset. Med spas are adapting with treatments like barrier-repair facials, enzyme exfoliation, and pigment-correcting options such as lactic acid peels and Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) therapy to repair sun damage from the previous season. Clients are also being guided to update their home routines: switching to creamier cleansers, layering hyaluronic acid and ceramides, and continuing sunscreen use despite cloudier skies. The goal now is to reinforce hydration, calm inflammation, and fortify the skin against upcoming stressors.

Subtlety IS IN

Injectables 101: Baby Botox and Preventative Xeomin

Subtlety is in. More people are seeking refined, preventative treatments that allow for expression while maintaining smoother skin. Enter Baby Botox and low-dose Xeomin—neuromodulators designed to soften early fine lines and prevent deeper wrinkles from forming. Providers are embracing a philosophy rooted in restraint, with careful placement and custom dosing based on facial dynamics. This approach often appeals to those looking for a refreshed, not frozen, appearance. Cooler months provide an ideal opportunity for these treatments, with less UV exposure and plenty of time to evaluate outcomes before the end of the year. It’s a new era of injectables—calculated, customizable, and confidence-boosting.

Skin Cycling 2.0

The concept of skin cycling—rotating active ingredients like retinoids, exfoliants, and hydrators—has gained popularity for balancing results with skin health. Now, it’s getting a high-tech upgrade. Providers are using AI-based apps and digital diagnostics to tailor cycling schedules based on each person’s real-time skin condition. By identifying inflammation, barrier damage, or product overload, these tools allow for smarter scheduling and better ingredient selection. The result? Fewer reactions, more glow, and routines that feel as customized as the treatments offered in the clinic. Skin Cycling 2.0 supports both home care education and long-term client satisfaction.

Exosome Therapy: The New PRP?

Exosomes—tiny cellular messengers packed with growth factors—are making waves as the next generation of regenerative skincare. Applied after microneedling or laser procedures, these vesicles accelerate recovery and significantly enhance collagen production. Unlike PRP (platelet-rich plasma), exosomes are lab-developed for consistency and contain concentrated signals that prompt the skin to regenerate. Early adopters report faster healing, improved elasticity, and a brighter complexion. As more med spas add this option to their menu, exosomes are quickly becoming a go-to for clients seeking deeper, more comprehensive results from their treatments.

Beyond the Facial: High-Tech Devices in Demand

Customized Skincare with AI & Scanning Tech

Standard facials have evolved into sophisticated skin treatments powered by innovative tools. Technologies like microneedling with RF (radiofrequency), ultrasound lifting, LED light therapy, and oxygen domes are now mainstays in modern med spas. These services target skin laxity, texture, and inflammation with minimal invasiveness and cumulative effects. As seasonal UV levels drop, it’s an excellent time for treatments that involve mild sensitivity post-procedure. Med spas are also combining devices in curated protocols tailored to skin type, lifestyle, and specific goals, often delivering visible improvements within a few sessions. For those seeking more than surface-level glow, modern devices offer layered, longterm results.

Technology is transforming how med spas evaluate and treat skin. Devices that scan for hydration, elasticity, pore size, and sun damage allow providers to create highly personalized plans, down to product recommendations and treatment timing. This data-driven approach improves trust, encourages consistency, and helps track measurable progress over time. AI tools enhance consultations and ensure that no guesswork is involved, making each visit more effective and efficient. For clients, this means smarter skincare and stronger results.

This season isn’t about reinvention—it’s about refinement. As med spas adopt advanced tools and refined philosophies, clients are empowered to care for their skin in ways that are personalized, restorative, and long-lasting. From emerging technologies to minimalist approaches, there’s something for everyone at any stage of their skincare journey. The next step isn’t a trend, it’s a tailored strategy – and the best time to start is now.

JAX LUXURY SALON

LEADS IN BEAUTY AND WELLNESS

High-end styling, personalized care, and an expanded experience

JAX Luxury Salon isn’t just a salon—it’s a refined, full-service beauty destination designed for guests who value excellence, elegance, and personalized service. Located on Harborview Drive in the premier waterfront district of Gig Harbor, this AVEDA concept salon delivers an elevated experience that’s both luxurious and inviting, blending high-end treatments with warm, attentive care.

Under the new leadership of Darren Swenson, JAX is expanding its offerings and refreshing its approach, while preserving the trust and quality that have defined the salon for more than four decades. “I was drawn to JAX because it offered an opportunity to invest in something lasting in our community. I connected with the original owner on values that matter—supporting our team, delivering excellent customer service, and offering the highest quality in both experience and results. Making sure my wife could keep her hair stylist was a pretty strong motivator, too.” Darren says, smiling.

JAX Luxury Salon has long been known for its exceptional hair coloring and facials, along with waxing, massage therapy, brow services, and Bellami hair extensions. To enhance the guest experience and allow for expanded wellness services, the salon is currently planning a move into a larger, 5,300-square-foot space inside the Peninsula Shopping Center in March/April 2026.

The upgraded location will introduce new features, including a dedicated spa wing offering Japanese Head Spa treatments—an immersive service that includes scalp analysis, steam therapy, deep cleansing, massage, and nourishing serums to promote scalp health and deep relaxation. “We’re committed to creating spaces that feel serene and special. The new spa will reflect that intention in every detail,” Darren explains.

“At JAX, luxury is defined by how our guests feel throughout their entire visit, from booking to styling, to walking out with confidence,” says Darren. “It’s not just about beautiful results, it’s about feeling seen, cared for, and completely at ease.”

From the moment guests walk through the doors, the JAX experience is unmistakable. The guest services team greets each visitor with genuine warmth, guiding them through their appointment with ease. Guests receiving extended services are offered a complimentary glass of champagne or wine. Appointments begin with AVEDA rituals like scalp, neck, or hand massages, and services are always tailored to the individual’s goals.

“At JAX, luxury is defined by how our guests feel throughout their entire visit, from booking to styling, to walking out with confidence,” says Darren. “It’s not just about beautiful results, it’s about feeling seen, cared for, and completely at ease.”

As an AVEDA salon, JAX integrates plant-powered products and holistic principles into every service. The focus is on enhancing natural beauty, supporting total wellness, and delivering noticeable, lasting results without compromising on health or sustainability.

The leadership team—Salon Lead Stephenie, AVEDA Ambassador Amanda, and Guest Services Manager Aidan—works cohesively to ensure consistency and care across every guest interaction. Their attention to detail, paired with ongoing AVEDA education and technique training, keeps JAX at the forefront of the industry.

Fall brings a seasonal uptick in appointments as clients prepare for school, events, and holidays. Hair color services, touch-ups, facials, and waxing are especially in demand this time of year. And with thoughtful offerings like 15% off services for students under 21 and a complimentary 30-minute facial during a guest’s birthday month, JAX goes beyond expectations.

JAX is also actively involved in the Gig Harbor community. Most recently, they participated in the Maritime Gig Festival, where the team enjoyed connecting with clients outside the salon. “We’ve received incredible feedback from guests and neighbors,” Darren shares. “The most meaningful part has been hearing how much people love the energy and professionalism of our staff.”

Whether you’re a longtime client or discovering JAX for the first time, the salon offers something rare: a high-end beauty experience that’s both polished and personal. Every detail is considered. Every guest is welcome. And every appointment is an opportunity to elevate how you feel inside and out.

The Wellness Reset

Let go of what drains you.

Return to what restores you.

There’s something about the fall season—the golden light, the slower mornings, the way trees release what no longer serves—that quietly encourages us to do the same. While the world keeps moving at full speed, this time of year offers a natural invitation to pause, recalibrate, and move with more intention.

Instead of chasing perfection or overhauling every aspect of life, what if this season were about tuning in? Not from pressure, but from purpose. Not to perform wellness, but to live it, one small, meaningful choice at a time. It’s a chance to embrace grounded rituals and sustainable routines. To shift from burnout into balance. Be it walking more, sleeping better, supporting your nervous system, or sipping tea in stillness, this fall is the perfect time to reset with clarity, compassion, and a little less noise.

Small Shifts, Big Impact

Habits that stick

Wellness isn’t built through grand gestures; it’s shaped by the everyday moments we repeat. Seasonal transitions offer a unique opportunity to create routines that ground and energize without overwhelming.

One effective way to build consistency is through habit stacking, which involves linking new habits to familiar ones. For example, drink a glass of water while your coffee brews, or add five minutes of stretching after brushing your teeth. These subtle links reduce resistance and help wellness practices stick.

Daily walks in cool, crisp air benefit more than just your body. They’ve been tied to improved mood, creativity, and focus. Adjusting sleep routines to match earlier sunsets by dimming lights earlier or avoiding screens can help recalibrate your natural rhythm and deepen rest.

Hydration plays a vital role this time of year. Cooler temperatures often dull our thirst, yet water is essential for digestion, detoxification, and energy. Warm herbal teas, lemon water, and broths support hydration and seasonal comfort. These aren’t flashy habits, but done consistently, they lay a strong foundation for wellness.

Your Nervous System Needs a Break

Constant digital stimulation has made nervous system overload a common experience. Our bodies weren’t built for nonstop alerts and pressure. This season encourages a step out of fight-or-flight and into something steadier.

Breathwork offers a fast, free reset. Practices like box breathing, 4-7-8, and long exhales activate the parasympathetic nervous system, calming both body and mind. It’s an easy way to introduce pauses into a packed day.

Somatic movement, such as swaying, shaking, or gentle stretching, can release tension held in the body. These practices aren’t about physical output but about helping your system settle.

Red light therapy and vagus nerve stimulation are also gaining popularity. Red light supports tissue repair and mood, especially during darker months. Stimulating the vagus nerve through humming, cold water, or deep breathing has been shown to reduce anxiety and improve digestion. Many local wellness centers now offer access to these tools in classes or seasonal reset packages.

You don’t need to do everything at once. Just choose a few practices that return you to a sense of calm and connection.

Custom Built Homes Designed For Your Lifestyle

At Fox & Dahlia, we believe building a home is far more than a project — it’s a milestone in your story. That’s why we place the greatest value on connection and collaboration, ensuring every detail reflects not just your vision, but your life.

Hormone Health at Any Age

Hormone shifts can impact sleep, energy, metabolism, and mood, but they’re often overlooked until symptoms become disruptive. Proactively checking in can offer clarity and relief.

Hormones like cortisol, estrogen, and progesterone influence much more than we realize. More people are turning to naturopathic doctors and functional medicine practitioners to explore underlying imbalances. One commonly used tool is the DUTCH test, which provides a detailed picture of hormonal patterns and stress responses.

While testing can be helpful, you can also tune in by tracking mood, energy, and sleep changes over time. Supporting hormone health through small shifts like cutting back on caffeine, adding magnesium, or balancing meals can make a noticeable difference.

Ultimately, balanced hormones support everything else. When internal systems are regulated, the rest of life feels more manageable.

Stillness has value

Wellness, Not Hustle

Modern culture tends to equate productivity with worth, but wellness doesn’t thrive in constant motion. It flourishes in rhythm, rest, and intention.

Let this time of year remind you that rest isn’t indulgent—it’s essential. Stillness has value. A cup of tea in silence, ten minutes of journaling, or a walk without distractions can anchor you far more than rushing through a checklist.

These quiet rituals build emotional resilience. As holiday demands increase, they require a stable internal rhythm. Simple practices like lighting a candle or stepping outside with awareness can signal your nervous system to settle.

Letting go of hustle culture doesn’t mean abandoning goals. It means redefining progress as something that aligns with your values, capacity, and well-being. That realignment alone can create the space your body and mind have been asking for.

in the PNW is beautiful. But even here, life can take its toll on your body. Your body carries it all, but what if it didn’t have to?

At Flowstate, we help you restore balance and ease. We’re a Massage Therapy and bodywork studio located in Gig Harbor specializing in advanced, evidence based care including neuromuscular therapy, myofascial release, lymphatic drainage, and nervous system regulation.

Our 90-minute signature sessions aren’t just a massage, they’re a total reset. Fully customized intentional care that meets you exactly where you are.

Glow Through Winter

5 simple steps for healthy, radiant skin

As the cold air settles in and the heaters kick on, skin is often the first to feel the effects. Dry winds, low humidity, and indoor heat can leave a once-dewy complexion looking dull, flaky, and irritated. The good news? With the right care—and a few expert tips—you can absolutely maintain a healthy, radiant glow all winter long.

At Catalyst Medspa, we specialize in helping clients protect and restore their skin through every season. Here are five of our favorite ways to keep your skin glowing, hydrated, and protected during the colder months.

Step 1: Exfoliate, but Keep It Gentle

Winter dryness often leads to a buildup of dead skin cells that block your products from doing their job. We recommend choosing gentle exfoliants like AHAs or BHAs instead of harsh scrubs, about 2–3 times a week.

In our spa, we offer dermaplaning, microdermabrasion, chemical peels, and medical-grade facials for a professional-level refresh. These treatments smooth texture, brighten your complexion, and help your skincare products absorb more effectively.

Step 2: Hydrate Inside and Out

Hydration is more than just moisturizer; it’s about balance. Staying hydrated with water and nourishing foods like cucumbers, oranges, and avocados is just as important as applying the right products. Look for hyaluronic acid to help your skin lock in moisture.

For stubborn winter dryness, we often recommend our Hydraglow facial or Skinvive treatments, paired with vitamin booster shots. Together, they replenish hydration at a deeper level and keep your skin supple, even on the coldest days.

Step 3: Don’t Skip SPF

Even on cloudy days, UV rays can still cause damage. Daily SPF (30 or higher) is essential—yes, even indoors, since windows don’t block all harmful rays. To further strengthen your skin barrier, we offer trusted brands that incorporate ceramides and niacinamide, protecting against dryness, wind, and pollution.

Step 4: Boost Your Energy & Immunity

Winter brings fatigue, travel, and seasonal bugs. Our vitamin B12,

B-Complex, and glutathione boosters not only support your energy and immunity but also give your skin an extra healthy glow.

Step 5: Level Up Your Routine

If you’re ready to take your results further, a consultation is the best next step. We offer advanced treatments like Botox and Morpheus8 skin tightening to target wrinkles, acne scars, and collagen loss at a deeper level.

Bottom line: With a bit of extra care and the right professional support, you don’t just have to survive winter. You can glow through it!

Communities In Schools of Peninsula:

25 YEARS STRONG

Courtesy of COMMUNITIES IN SCHOOLS OF PENINSULA

Communities In Schools of Peninsula (CISP) is celebrating its 25th anniversary! This milestone is not just a testament to longevity but a celebration of a continued commitment to empowering students through support and resources. Over the past 25 years, CISP has been at the forefront of improving student attendance by helping school leaders identify and address barriers—both academic and non-academic—that prevent young people from attending school. CISP is a non-profit organization that places trained, caring adults known as “site coordinators” directly IN schools. These staff members work hand-in-hand with families and teachers to connect young people with the resources they need, motivating and encouraging them to stay on track for graduation and achieve their life goals.

The spike in chronic school absenteeism that began in the wake of the pandemic shows no sign of receding. More than one in four students—that’s 14.7 million kids—were chronically absent in the 2021-22 school year, missing 10% of the school year, or nearly a month of classes.

Many students miss school due to challenges with safety, transportation, mental or physical health, access to clean clothes, food insecurity, or have household responsibilities such as childcare or needing to work. Yet, chronically absent students cannot succeed if they are not in school. They have lower test scores, fare worse in classes, and are far less likely to graduate. Once they’ve left school, they are at higher risk for health problems, difficulty finding jobs, and a host of other adverse outcomes.

In the 2023-24 school year alone, CISP provided individualized support to 384 students.

CISP’s model follows a proven national framework that integrates community resources directly into schools, helping build a strong foundation for student success. Each school with a site coordinator receives both individual and school-wide support services, ranging from academic tutoring to food access, behavioral health services, and enrichment programs.

In the 2023-24 school year alone, CISP provided individualized support to 384 students. Of those, 93% showed improvement in college and career readiness, 77% in academics, and 94% in behavior—clear indicators of the impact consistent, dedicated engagement can make.

At the heart of this effort are site coordinators, who often work behind the scenes to support students in meaningful ways. They lead social-emotional learning groups, connect families with essential services like housing assistance and transportation, and collaborate with a network of local partners—including social service agencies, businesses, health care providers, and volunteers.

Site coordinators provide one-on-one support to help students overcome barriers to success. This includes academic assistance, access to food and clothing, physical and mental health care, mentoring, and college or career preparation. They also coordinate school-wide programs, such as bullying prevention assemblies and after-school enrichment activities, designed to meet the broader needs of the student body.

CISP is calling on everyone in local communities to show up for kids, ensuring they have the support necessary to attend school and be ready to learn. The tools are in place, but this work can’t be done without support!

Volunteers also play a key role in expanding the reach of CISP’s mission. By contributing as little as one hour per week, they support programs such as CISP’s after-school academic sessions and the “Tutors with Tails” reading initiative. These efforts help reinforce CISP’s mission to surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life. CISP fuels personal potential, enabling every student to take charge of their story and define success on their terms.

Harrison Homes, LLC: Built on Trust

Quality homes. Lasting relationships.

Since 1989, Harrison Homes has been quietly transforming the landscape of the Pacific Northwest—one quality build at a time. What began with Dale and Judy Harrison purchasing two lots in Canterwood has grown into a trusted, multigenerational company known for excellence in custom homes, construction, and remodeling. Though the tools, trends, and team have evolved over the years, the mission remains the same: build with integrity, treat people with respect, and never compromise on quality.

The foundation of Harrison Homes was poured long before the business officially began. Dale Harrison, originally in finance, grew up with a carpenter father, and that early exposure to craftsmanship never left him. His passion for quality construction—paired with a growing demand in the Gig Harbor area—sparked the beginning of what would become one of the region’s most respected construction and remodeling companies.

Today, Harrison Homes is led by James Brewer, Titian Niosi, Margi Moore, and Matt Dean, and staffed by a team of more than 20 talented individuals. Together, they’ve built far more than houses—they’ve built a reputation for honesty, attention to detail, and personalized service that consistently earns repeat business and referrals.

“We’re not just building homes,” says the team. “We’re building relationships.” That sentiment is more than a motto. Their tagline, People Are Our Business, drives every interaction, from internal teamwork to client communication. Harrison Homes operates as a true family—owners, employees, clients, subcontractors, and suppliers all working together toward a common goal. Trust is the currency, and transparency is the process.

That transparency is one of the company’s key differentiators. Clients see exactly where every dollar goes, with no surprises and no shortcuts. It’s a system built on honesty—and one that has earned Harrison Homes a reputation as a builder you can count on.

Inside the company, the culture reflects that same integrity. Harrison Homes hires selectively, choosing people who want to make a real impact and take pride in their craft. “We look for team players who are talented, collaborative, and passionate about making a difference,” they share. The result is a team that works in sync, combining creative problem-solving with technical expertise to meet challenges head-on.

What truly sets Harrison Homes apart isn’t just the quality of the finished product—it’s how they get there. Their process is intentional, client-focused, and built on communication. From the first consultation to the final walkthrough, they listen, they educate, and they offer tailored solutions that reflect the client’s goals while meeting Harrison’s own high standards.

Their definition of success is simple: satisfied customers, lasting relationships, and doing the job right every single time. Whether it’s a small remodel or a multi-year custom build, every project receives the same level of care and commitment.

Looking ahead, Harrison Homes is poised for continued growth—but not at the expense of its values. “We stay grounded by focusing on what’s always mattered most: honesty, integrity, and quality,” they say. That focus keeps them anchored, even as their portfolio and reputation expand across the region.

For those considering a custom home, remodel, or construction project, Harrison Homes offers something increasingly rare: a trustworthy team that delivers not just beautiful results, but peace of mind throughout the process. It’s why so many of their clients become lifelong advocates.

There may be many builders in the Northwest, but Harrison Homes stands apart—for the way they work, the people they hire, and the values they never compromise.

Rachel Hayes Joins Like Media

HOMEGROWN ENERGY MEETS NEXT-LEVEL VISION

When you think of the South Sound, you think of salt air, mountain views, small-town pride, and a community that shows up for each other. That same spirit is what Rachel Hayes brings as she steps into her new role as Marketing Executive for Gig Harbor Living Local and 253 Lifestyle Magazine. Born and raised in Gig Harbor, Rachel doesn’t just know the area—she lives the Pacific Northwest lifestyle threading through every South Sound community. She’s shopped local boutiques, cheered at waterfront festivals, snowboarded at Crystal Mountain, and stood on fishing vessels during the Blessing of the Fleet. Her deep roots and broad connections make her uniquely

positioned to help businesses across the 253 (and beyond) tell their stories in ways that resonate.

Rachel’s roots run deep, but her vision reaches far. With over a decade of experience in real estate and community marketing, she blends authenticity with strategy. Her passion? Helping local businesses not only survive, but thrive. “Being born and raised in Gig Harbor means I don’t just know this community—I’m part of it,” Rachel shares. “When I approach marketing here, it isn’t about a generic campaign. It’s about telling the stories that matter to us, because they’re my stories too.”

That heart is fueling Like Media’s next chapter. Rachel is teaming

up with longtime powerhouse Rebecca Baczewski, creating a dynamic partnership that balances Rachel’s homegrown insight with Rebecca’s deep magazine expertise. Together, they’re shaping a team that will drive Like Media’s growth across Pierce County, Kitsap, and beyond.

Rachel also brings a sharp digital perspective. She sees SEO, social media, and online engagement as gamechangers for small businesses. She plans to merge the timeless impact of print with the reach of digital, making Gig Harbor Living Local and 253 Lifestyle must-reads in both print and digital. Think interactive features, QR codes linking to local spotlights, and campaigns that bridge the gap between coffee-table keepsake and digital community hubs.

Looking ahead, Rachel is helping Like Media set its sights on 2026 with a vision rooted in connection. Instead of chasing clicks or impressions, the focus is on building bridges—between businesses and neighbors, between timeless print and digital, and between the traditions that define Washington towns and the new voices shaping their future. The goal is clear: to deepen the magazines’ role as a trusted hub where businesses shine, stories are preserved, and the community sees itself reflected with authenticity. That’s why she’s committed to keeping Like Media authentic, ensuring every page, feature, and story reflects the people and traditions that make the South Sound unique.

Lightning Round with Rachel

Go-to coffee order:

“Williams Patrick’s drive-thru — they know me before I get to the window! A 24-oz iced Americano with 4 Stevia and heavy cream.”

Weekend happy place:

“In summer, I garden, float in the pool, host friends, or play pickleball, with breakfast at Netshed or Devoted Kiss and date nights at Brix or Morso. In winter, I snowboard at Crystal Mountain or cozy up with my boyfriend, our dog, a movie, and the fireplace.”

Hype song before a big meeting:

“Depends on my mood—I love all music. I grew up singing in church with my dad, who was (fun fact) Waylon Jennings’ bass player. Music is in my blood, so whether upbeat or soulful, I’m usually singing my way into the right headspace.”

Rachel is helping Like Media set its sights on 2026 with a vision rooted in connection.

Gig Harbor Fall Home Crush Fox Island Waterfront Retreat

Each season, top Gig Harbor real estate agent Paige Schulte shares her "Home Crush"—a standout property that captures exceptional design, craftsmanship, and livability. After touring hundreds of homes each year and working closely with builders across the Puget Sound, this Fox Island waterfront retreat immediately rose to the top.

Perched on the shoreline with sweeping western views, this Fox Island retreat is a masterclass in modern Northwest living. Designed to blend seamlessly into its surroundings, the home captures golden-hour light, salty breezes, and quiet luxury at every turn.

Low-slung architecture, cedar siding, and expansive glass areas ground the structure to the land. Inside, the atmosphere is calm and collected—warm woods, soft matte finishes, and layered neutrals provide an elegant yet livable backdrop for daily life.

The home was custom-designed and built by Jim Peschek, a Fox Island local and founder of BASK Design Build. As his personal residence, it reflects decades of experience, restraint, and attention to detail. Nothing is overdone; everything feels considered.

The open-concept great room centers around a sculptural fireplace, with floor-to-ceiling windows that dissolve the boundary between indoors and out. The kitchen features acid-washed granite countertops, custom cabinetry, and an oversized island perfect for gathering. Subtle elements—like floating stairs and curated lighting—add quiet drama.

In the primary suite, spa-like comfort includes a private sauna and soaking tub angled toward the water. Even utilitarian spaces like the laundry and mudroom carry through the same thoughtful finishes and flow.

The landscaping, too, was treated as part of the home’s architecture, echoing the natural materials and minimalism of the interior.

Sophisticated yet grounded, this home offers a rare blend of design excellence, comfort, and connection to place—just the way its builder intended.

It was a unique experience to walk through the builder’s home and see their personal vision for everyday living. There is a reason BASK continues to set a new standard of Luxury in Gig Harbor, and their resale values are among the highest, demonstrating the exceptional quality of their materials and craftsmanship. To learn more about BASK’s custom homes or explore their boutique lifestyle communities across the South Sound, visit BASKDesignBuild.com.

Join us for the next home crush of the season and an inside look at some of Gig Harbor’s most unique homes.

Avoid These Four Common Misconceptions

Helpful Hints When Approaching Separation and Divorce

During precarious financial times, particularly when contemplating separation or divorce, it is common for parties to want to cut costs where possible. However, be careful when applying that cost-cutting mindset to your legal process.

While opting for mediation over litigation may offer significant savings on legal fees, it's essential to ensure you remain fully informed about your financial situation. This involves analyzing your income and expenses and compiling a comprehensive inventory of assets, including their corresponding values and debts.

The following hints are based on some costly assumptions that I am often presented with by parties choosing mediation:

#1: Do not commit to an entire financial agreement before starting your process without understanding the implications. While it is understandable that clients may want to quickly reach agreements to avoid protracted negotiations and hard feelings, making decisions regarding home equity, retirement accounts, and child support without professional input regarding tax implications, overall affordability, and court expectations can lead to costly mistakes.

#2: Understand that an equally shared residential schedule for your children usually does not eliminate a child support obligation. This is perhaps the number one mistake that is presented to me by new clients. I often hear, “We have a 50/50 plan and agree to no child support.” While some cases may

allow for a reduction of child support, the court generally won’t approve of no child support unless earnings among the parties are also equal.

#3: Do not assume the only way to transfer retirement funds to your ex-spouse is through liquidation. Liquidating funds held in tax-deferred retirement accounts such as 401(k)’s and Traditional IRAs can be extremely costly in terms of tax consequences and penalties. To avoid taxes and penalties, retirement account transfers are effectuated by a separate court order called a Qualified Domestic Order (QDRO).

#4: You do not need to sell your house before you can begin the divorce process. If your financial agreement ultimately does involve the sale of your home, careful wording in your written settlement agreement will be necessary regarding how the listing, sale, and eventual distribution of proceeds are to be handled.

Bottom line: It is important to inform yourself on the parameters of all aspects of your case before reaching an agreement among yourselves to avoid the hard feelings and added expense that incorrect assumptions will often create.

Fall Real Estate in

Gig Harbor

Advantages for buyers and sellers

Is Fall the Forgotten Housing Season?

In short, no.

Fall isn’t the forgotten season—it is, however, the most underrated season.

Whether you’re buying or selling, fall offers strategic advantages that many people overlook simply because it’s outside the “traditional” housing season. Let’s check in on some local stats to dive a little deeper into the Gig Harbor fall market trends.

BUYERS

• Have less competition and more negotiation power.

• Fall and winter bring fewer buyers, giving you space to breathe and negotiate.

• Sellers listing in the fall are often motivated, having missed prime spring/summer peak pricing, allowing buyers an opportunity.

• With more homes for sale and fewer buyers, there's more time to choose and negotiate.

• House hunting on your terms

• Fall is also a quieter time for contractors, so home inspections or repairs may be easier and quicker.

• Strong market data

• Northwest Multiple Listing Service (NWMLS) data shows fall 2025 inventory could be the highest since mid-2020, thanks to lingering listings and new ones still being added.

SELLERS

• Serious buyers

Fall buyers are often more motivated:

• They're relocating for work.

• They're trying to close before year-end for tax reasons.

• They're on tight timelines (e.g., before the holidays or winter weather hits).

• Faster closing timelines

• Since buyers are often on deadlines, deals tend to close faster than in spring/summer.

• Lenders, inspectors, and appraisers are typically less backlogged, speeding up the process.

• Curb appeal without the cost

• Natural fall colors (leaves, lighting) enhance your home’s appearance.

• No need for costly landscaping—just clean up leaves and decorate seasonally (think pumpkins, mums, wreaths).

• Year-end buyers with money to spend

• Some buyers want to use year-end bonuses or invest before the new tax year.

• Fall is an ideal time for investors looking to close before Dec 31 for deductions or 1031 exchanges (especially landlords or flippers).

Real-Time Market Signals for Fall 2025

• Inventory rising: Inventory at its highest since May 2020; 27.4% of listings had price cuts in July—highest on record. (Statistic from the National Association of REALTORS, NAR).

• Sales creeping up: July saw a 2% rise in existing home sales, as a result of falling mortgage rates and more bargaining room on prices.

• Federal Reserve update: Announcement of the FED meeting likely to result in an interest rate cut.

We love working and representing clients through the fall, and in fact, we often joke that negotiations happen all the way up to sitting down at the Thanksgiving table for dinner!

Fall often feels like a slower-paced time compared to its three other seasonal siblings, so if that is your pace, reach out and let's get a plan in place.

We look forward to seeing you around town!

Local Guide

Every Great Move Begins with Strategy and Connection.

Selling isn’t luck—it’s strategy, and preparation makes all the difference. The strongest results start long before the “for sale” sign goes up. Buyers aren’t just looking for square footage—they’re searching for a lifestyle. My role is to shape that story early so the right buyers feel the connection before they ever step inside.

Sellers today want more than a transaction—they’re seeking trust, connection, and someone to guide them every step of the way, curating a relationship that lasts well beyond the closing table. That’s why preparation, strategy, and meeting clients where they are matter so deeply—and why relationships have become the foundation of my business. Whether you’re looking for a waterfront home or downsizing to a downtown condo, I would be honored to discuss strategy. Every great move begins with one conversation. I’m one call away.

Give Where You Live

n a bright blue food truck parked in Key Center, Stephanie Brooks is serving more than sandwiches—she’s dishing out community, connection, and compassion.

Stephanie, a lifelong Key Peninsula resident, spent 25 years in retail management before returning to her roots and opening GNOSH in July 2015. From the start, her mission was clear: use food as a vehicle to build relationships and uplift the community she loves.

What sets GNOSH apart isn’t just the bold flavors—it’s the heart behind the business. Stephanie knows her customers by name, remembers their stories, and treats every order like a conversation with an old friend. It’s hospitality in its purest form.

But her impact stretches far beyond the food truck window.

Stephanie sits on the board of Food Backpacks 4 Kids, a nonprofit fighting hunger for children across the Key Peninsula and Gig Harbor. Through this role and her personal giving, she’s made feeding families a core part of her business philosophy. GNOSH has supported organizations like the Red Barn Youth Center, and Stephanie regularly partners with local nonprofits, fundraisers, and fellow small business owners to give back however she can.

Her “give where you live” mentality is woven into every layer of GNOSH— from offering discounts to firefighters, police officers, and veterans, to showing up at community events and fundraisers. She doesn’t just talk about service—she shows up, gives back, and leads by example.

And of course, there’s the food: inventive samm’iches, wraps, salads, and loaded fries that locals can’t get enough of. Favorites include the Figgy Piggy and the Reuben with homemade hot sweet pickles. Gluten-free, dairy-free, vegetarian, and keto options ensure everyone’s welcome at her window.

Stephanie Brooks proves what happens when a small business leads with love, purpose, and pride of place. In every bite and every act of generosity, she reminds us all why giving where you live matters.

Creating Meaningful Moments

How to connect

Have you ever asked yourself, ‘How can I connect with my child or teen?’ We are two teens, aged seventeen and fifteen. Below, we share activities that will bring enjoyment and connection for all ages year-round.

Catch Up Daily

We all have busy lives and schedules. Find time intentionally to catch up on one another’s lives, perhaps in the car, around the dinner table, or during a brisk walk.

• What are you looking forward to this week?

• What brought you a small bit of happiness today?

• What are three things that you are grateful for?

• What is one funny moment that you experienced recently?

• What is a song that you’ve been loving lately?

Cook or Bake

Traditions are an important part of connecting with one another and to our past. Recall a traditional dish from your childhood or culture. It

could be a special dish passed down through generations or a delicious pancake or cookie recipe. Find the joy in creating a tasty treat together with your child, and teach them this recipe! Then, enjoy the fruit of your labor (who doesn’t love good food?).

The Calm Before the Ceremony

A GROUNDED APPROACH TO WEDDING DAY WELLNESS AND BEAUTY

Your wedding day is a celebration of love, connection, and the beginning of something beautiful. It’s also a moment where you deserve to feel completely confident, from the inside out. Preparing your health, beauty, and mindset ahead of time isn’t about chasing perfection—it’s about honoring yourself during a season filled with emotion, joy, and anticipation. With the right approach, you’ll not only look amazing, you’ll feel grounded, present, and fully ready to enjoy every second.

Glow From the Inside Out

Confidence on your wedding day isn’t about achieving a flawless standard—it’s about feeling like the best version of yourself. When you feel good, you look good. And when you’re at peace with your preparation, your joy becomes undeniable.

Start with Skin

Healthy skin is the foundation of your wedding day glow. Establish a consistent routine at least six months in advance, incorporating gentle exfoliation, hydration, and daily SPF. Schedule regular facials with a licensed esthetician and stay loyal to what works— avoid experimenting with new products right before the big day.

Hair Care is Self-Care

If you plan to color or cut your hair, do it well in advance to allow time for any adjustments. Weekly deep conditioning masks, heat protection, and regular trims will help restore shine and strength to your hair. Book your stylist early for both the trial and wedding day, and bring your veil or accessories to the trial to see the whole look come together.

Make Your Makeup Work

Your wedding makeup should reflect your natural style. Schedule a trial at least a few weeks in advance, and take photos in both natural and indoor light to ensure you love how it translates on camera. Ask your artist for products that are long-wear and photo-friendly, and don’t forget to test your final look with your whole outfit, including accessories.

Strength Over Stress

Rather than chasing a specific size or look, prioritize movement that supports your mood and posture. Strength training, walking, or yoga can reduce stress and increase confidence leading up to the big day. Make movement part of your weekly rhythm, and let it be something that grounds you rather than pressures you.

Eat to Feel Your Best

A whole-foods-based approach—rich in leafy greens, lean proteins, healthy fats, and fresh fruit—will naturally support energy, skin clarity, and digestion. Stay hydrated with water and herbal teas, and reduce processed snacks and added sugars that can lead to bloating or fatigue. The goal isn’t to restrict—it’s to nourish.

What No One Tells You About Post-Wedding skin

You’ve prepped for months. But what happens the day after?

1. Puffy eyes + pillow creases You’ll be tired. Store a gel eye mask in the fridge and apply with a cup of coffee in hand.

2. Dry lips + dehydration Champagne is great. Water is better. Add electrolytes to bounce back fast.

3. Breakouts from stress relief You made it. Your body will react. Use a calming mask, not a harsh scrub.

The wedding is one day. Your skin still needs love after it’s over.

Protect Your Peace

Planning a wedding can get overwhelming. Schedule time each week to unplug, breathe, and center yourself. Whether it’s journaling, a walk without your phone, or reading something non-wedding related, that mental reset is essential. Your emotional well-being is just as important as your beauty routine.

Sleep Like It Matters—Because It Does

Sleep is when your body resets, your skin repairs, and your emotions regulate. In the weeks leading up to the wedding, prioritize 7–8 hours of quality sleep each night. It will do more for your appearance than any last-minute beauty product ever could.

Don’t Skip the Grooming Timeline

Timing matters. Schedule your brow shaping and waxing three to five days in advance. Get your spray tan one to two days before the event. Plan your final facial at least one week in advance, and complete any injectable or new treatments four to six weeks out. Don’t gamble with last-minute changes—test everything in advance to avoid surprises.

Encourage Your Partner to Prep Too

They’ll be in the photos, too! A fresh haircut, skincare routine, or even a stress-relieving massage can help your partner feel just as confident

and ready. It’s a shared celebration, and shared preparation only strengthens your connection.

You Define Beautiful

You don’t need to fit a mold to look radiant. The beauty that shines on your wedding day comes from alignment—when your health, mindset, and energy come together in harmony. Let go of pressure and lean into preparation that feels authentic.

Presence Over Perfection

What your guests will remember is how you lit up the room, how you looked at your partner, and how happy you felt on the big day. When you prioritize yourself—not for vanity, but for wellness—you permit yourself to be fully present. That presence is the most beautiful thing of all.

No matter how elaborate your plans or simple your ceremony, the most unforgettable part of your wedding day will always be how you felt. When you’re rested, nourished, supported, and calm, that confidence radiates in every photo and memory. Prioritize what makes you feel beautiful—not just on the outside, but throughout your whole being. The most powerful glow you can wear is one that comes from true alignment, peace, and love.

THE MOST POWERFUL GLOW YOU CAN WEAR IS ONE THAT COMES FROM TRUE ALIGNMENT, PEACE, AND LOVE.

Where the Light Finds You

Wedding days stretch from soft morning light to golden hour to after-dark flash. Your look should shift with it. Avoid SPF with flashback. Choose makeup that performs well under both warm and cool lighting conditions. Ask your photographer when your portraits will be taken, and prepare for that light. Weather sets the mood, but lighting defines the memory.

CEREMONY-READY Scentscape

You’ll remember how it looked—but you’ll also remember how it smelled.

Here’s how to create a signature scent moment that lingers in all the right ways:

What you’ll need:

• One soft, long-wear personal fragrance

• A room spray or oil diffuser for your prep space

• A scented detail: veil, handkerchief, vow book, or bouquet ribbon

What to do:

• Put on your fragrance before getting dressed so it lasts through the day.

• Spray the room or turn on the diffuser about an hour before you arrive to keep it fresh but not overpowering.

• Lightly scent your chosen detail so it will bring back memories whenever you smell it again.

Scenic walks, local bites, and small-town charm as the seasons change by

As summer ends and we say goodbye to long sunny days, the beauty of fall takes center stage, bringing cooler weather and colorful leaves. From walking along the beach at Kopachuck State Park to enjoying a locally crafted brew at 7 Seas, the charming waterfront town of Gig Harbor offers plenty of adventures in the fall and winter months.

Shop

If you like browsing and buying local art, you’ll get plenty of opportunities in Gig Harbor. Several art galleries feature local artists who work in a variety of mediums. A local favorite is Gallery Row, which updates its well-curated displays every month. Also check out places like Birdnest Gallery, Waters Edge Art Gallery, and Ebb Tide Co-Op.

There are a number of unique boutiques to visit on the waterfront, from the Gig Harbor Book Company to The Beach Basket and Dolly Mama Boutique. The Cougarwear store is a hit among diehard crimson and grey fans!

If a day spent by the water has left you craving seafood, you are in the perfect place. Check out a local favorite, Tides Tavern. It’s one of the most popular restaurants in downtown Gig Harbor, boasting stunning harbor views and an extensive menu ranging from seafood and sandwiches to pizza.

NetShed No. 9 is a popular breakfast, brunch, and lunch spot. This waterfront restaurant has an eclectic menu of New-American eats. For delicious cold or hot sandwiches and a variety of baked goods, try out Susanne’s Bakery and Deli.

After you’ve made your way through downtown, get ready to grab some drinks! Downtown Gig Harbor has plenty of places for beer, wine, or cocktails, so you’ve got lots of options.

One of my recent favorites is the Hop Pharm Tap Room. This newer joint sells beer and wine from a variety of local and regional breweries. Beer isn’t the only drink worth seeking out. Founded in Gig Harbor, Heritage Distilling Company (HDC) is the largest independently owned craft distillery in the Pacific Northwest with five regional tasting rooms. The HDC flagship tasting room boasts harbor views, spirit flights, and specialty cocktails.

For wine, The Hidden Harbor Wine Library is a new gem for wine lovers, along with the Olalla Vineyard and Winery, which specializes

Where to “Larch March” this Fall

Washington is known as the evergreen state, but every fall, something magical happens on its high mountain slopes. The deciduous Golden larch trees transform our Cascade backcountry landscape into a sea of ethereal yellow, becoming nature’s pot of gold for avid fall hikers. The chase to find these golden beauties, now dubbed “Larch Madness” among outdoor enthusiasts, takes a bit of stamina, good hiking boots, and a bit of luck, but this magic call of the larches is well worth it. The few short weeks when the larches spin their golden magic - typically late September into early October – make them all the more precious to spot. Some popular hikes include Heather Maple Pass and Blue Lake in the North Cascades; Lake Ingalls and Tronsen Ridge in the Cle Elum area; Esmeralda Basin and Lake Ann in the Snoqualmie Region; and Clara and Marion Lakes in Wenatchee. Good luck on your Washington “larch march”!
