Tanssihistorian merkkiteoksiin lukeutuva, fasismia ja sodan uhkaa käsitellyt baletti kantaesitettiin Pariisissa vuonna 1932, vain muutama kuukausi ennen Hitlerin valtaannousua Saksassa. Olga de Soto on tutkinut Joossin teosta, sen syntyyn vaikuttaneita tekijöitä ja teoksen jättämiä jälkiä valokuvien, tekstien ja haastattelujen avulla. Luentoesityksessä hän purkaa teoksen katsojien ja esiintyjien muistoja, tulkintoja ja teoksen vaikutuksia, sekä avaa kysymyksiä Kurt Joossin tanssiryhmän vaiheista teosta ennen ja sen jälkeen. Miten tanssi välittyy, mitä siitä jää? Mikä on tanssijoiden osuus ja rooli tanssihistoriassa? Miten tanssiteos kehittyy ajan myötä, osana maailmanhistoriaa?

n Introduction is a lectureperformance by Olga de Soto. She focuses her vision on Kurt Jooss’s legendary work The Green Table, premiered in Paris in 1932, a piece that is considered a fundamental work in dance history owing to the themes it deals with: the rise of fascism and war. Olga de Soto presents the numerous questions that arose around the piece throughout the years and the traces that it has left, through images, text, scores, and interviews with dancers and audiences. De Soto’s main focus lies in the memories of the spectators and dancers, the critical perception, the interpretation and the transmission of The Green Table. For how does a work of art evolve within its own history, and within world history?
