Well, another year starts and another newsletter to start the Year. We all hope 2021 brings a light to the end of the Corona epidemic and a brighter future for all of us, our families and loved ones. We all must be vigilant as the dangers of Corona virus are still here, Hand Wash/Sanitise, Social Distance, Face Masks and consider having the Covid-19 vaccination to protect ourselves and those around us.

We continue to take leaps forward and are now mobilizing new projects, Diryah Gate new Project wins along with Jeddah Palace late in 2020. Im also pleased to announce that ALL our existing Projects remain ongoing and continue to be served by you all in an admirable manner throughout these tough times.

You will see in this our 7th Newsletter that we have further included some new material from our sister companies within the Group that is of interest to us all and reflects the Green, Environmental and Sustainability approach we embrace going forward. I’m also pleased to announce that we are now beginning the journey to obtain ISO 41001 Facility Management management systems to reinforce our commitments to become the #1 FM provider of choice throughout the Kingdom. It is early days but I am confident in the teams ability to achieve this accolade.

Finally you will all have had, seen or heard of the Employee Retention Scheme, now rolled out for all staff earning Sar 3500 or less with an increment and retention amount along with long service awards at 5 and 10 year intervals - again reaffirming that YOU are our biggest and most valuable asset. This along with the many now completed employee accommodation initiatives to improve morale, retention and conditions. I do hope that this year we can also re-start our employee engagement activities such as basketball, cricket, volleyball competitions along with Esterha and other activities, Corona Virus precautions and conditions permitting.

• Employee retention refers to the various policies and practices which let the employees stay with an organization for a longer period of time.

• Every organization invests time and money to train a new employee, make him a corporate ready material and bring him at par with the existing employees.

• The organization is completely at a loss when the employees leave their job once they are fully trained.

• Employee retention takes into account the various measures taken so that an individual stays in an organization for the maximum period of time.

What are the needs and importance of Employee Retention?

• Employee Retention refers to the techniques employed by the management to help the employees stay with the organization for a longer period of time.

• Employee retention strategies go a long way in motivating the employees so that they stay with the organization for the maximum time and contribute effectively.

• Sincere efforts must be taken to ensure growth and learning for the employees in their current assignments and for them to enjoy their work.

• Individuals once being trained have a tendency to move to other organizations for better prospects.

• Lucrative salary, comfortable timings, better ambience, growth prospects are some of the factors which prompt an employee to look for a change.

• Whenever a talented employee expresses his willingness to move on, it is the responsibility of the management and the human resource team to intervene immediately and find out the exact reasons leading to the decision.

THE GREENER SAFARI FOOTPRINT Mousa Al Gara - Construction Project Director, New Gazan International Airport comments:The flat surrounding plains and open desert area around the New Gazan International Airport project being constructed by Safari, are home to several herds of indigenous camels that move across the flat ground and the plains scouring the earth for edible greenery.

At the same time, the South Western region of Saudi Arabia is also in the migratory path for several bird species and just recently a visiting Eurasian Spoonbill was seen on the flat plains that are submersed in water at times during the frequent tidal movements near the project.

These animals and birds have been visitors to the area and the region since time immemorial and as construction and development take place, caution needs to be taken to ensure that the right of passage that nature affords the various fauna and flora that thrive locally, does not get pushed out and is minimally disrupted by the execution of construction and the changes in habitat served on the environment by Safari as a construction company during its task, and by people as expansion and growth happen.

Safari is an environmentally conscious and responsible company and we also expect our employees, and everybody connected to the Safari company to “walk modestly upon the earth” and to help us in leaving a legacy of environmental care and continuation during and after we have completed the task of building the new Gazan International Airport.

The Plant name in the camel photograph is “Apple of Sodom” (Calotropis procera) a species of milkweed in the family Apocynaceae native to the Dead Sea and Sodom, and other desert regions. It is toxic and nonedible.

AL SOUDAH DEVELOPMENT PROJECT M219 BRIEFING

PIF has established AlSoudah Development Company to manage the development of AlSoudah in Asir province, which is located at the south west side of Saudi Arabia. AlSoudah development will be scattered in a region with an area of over 600km; as of today, thirty-three percent (33%) of the area is designated for parks which is set in a mountain range with spectacular views and boasts exceptional cool temperatures compared to the wider region.

The goal is to develop a unique mountain destination at the highest point in Saudi Arabia that includes an exclusive, luxurious offering that covers wellness, hospitality, adventure and sports with a rich cultural experience. The development will be tourism-focused with hotels, second home units, retail space, and leisure attractions.

SDC will develop an offering to attract adventure & sports, wellness, and rich cultural experience tourism seekers, as well as meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions (MICE) visitors.

Visitors are expected to primarily come from the Middle East, although some are expected to come from international markets, including US, Europe and Asia.

The development will be phased over several periods with guidance provided on key zones Al Soudah Development Project is located in Abha on a mountain called AL SOUDAH with an altitude of around 3000-meter Height, the project is comprising of the following buildings:

Palace One Consists of the main villa called MV1, three guest villas prepared recently by client and converted into offices by category.

The palace includes a driver lounge which recently been converted into a game and entertainment room for client employees, women servant building has been also converted into a gym facility for client use, parking area (converted into a bicycles parking for client employees).

Palace Two

Shaheen Chalets

Consists of the same buildings mentioned above, all buildings similar to palace ONE has not been touched or modified, using as accommodation for client.

Chalets have been built by client and there are four of them located in a very nice area selected by them.

Gamra Chalets

The Hub

There are two of them built separately in a different nice place.

Has been also built by client using a subcontractor, for all several client activities.

Safari company is providing the following facility management services: • Management.

• MEP. • Civil.

• HVAC. • Plumbing and mechanical services.

• Landscaping and agriculture.

• Housekeeping and cleaning.

• Electronics and electrical.

• Support services.

• Fire and safety.

• Kitchen and laundry maintenance service.

• 11 Power generators.

The mentioned above premises are the main and the most important for the client.

In addition to that, there are some other buildings like (The main kitchen that will serve the client during the next few days, two security buildings using presently by client, some guards’ buildings which are now closed and not in use, Safari staff accommodation and offices). There is also an office for client located in Abha city and it is under Safari scope in terms of providing maintenance services.

JEDDAH PALACE M221

Jeddah Palace is comprising of different building blocks, building #1 is main Palace building, security building, administration building, female quarter, male quarter and married quarter.

The air conditioning in building #1 is being provided by three nos. carrier screw type chillers (307 ton), the cooling water is supplying to 44 nos. of AHUs and 13 nos. FCUs in Building #1. While the rest of all the buildings are being conditioned using Package units, split units, Ducted split and windows AC units.

Building #1 is furnished with eleva tors. Main kitchen in building 1 is used for the food preparation for guests and is equipped with a dumbwaiter.

Two caterpillar’s generators are for standby power generation in case of any power interruption or failure, the working generators #1 (750 kw) feeding building 1 and generators #2 (400kw) feeding chillers.

For storing domestic water (272 m3) and one underground irrigation tank (249.6 m3), the water is being supplied to all the buildings by continuous running pumping stations consist of two main water supply pumps in pump room, the irrigation water is being supplied to all land scaping continuous running pumping stations consist of Two main water supply pumps.

How far back does UK history go?
