RELAXED PERFORMANCE GUIDE LIGHTHOUSE PRESENTS

With CBeebies’

Chris Jarvis and Friends

I am going to Lighthouse in Poole to see the Christmas Show called Happy Ever After. My name is:

I am here with:

01202 280000 www.lighthousepoole.co.uk

WELCOME TO LIGHTHOUSE When I arrive, I go will go through the front doors which look like this. I will wear a face covering and use hand sanitiser to keep safe in the building.

1 Inside I will see the foyer with stairs, the ticket office and the cafĂŠ. Sometimes it can be quite busy and noisy before a performance but everyone will be socially distanced and there will be a lot of space.

2

If I need a break at any time, I can go to the chill out area in the foyer.

3

The people who work at Lighthouse are very friendly and are there to help me. They are called stewards and they wear black clothes and a name badge.

4

If I need to use the toilet, I can follow signs which look like this or ask one of the stewards to help me.

5 I will go through some doors like this which lead to the theatre and then I can sit down in my seat.

6

All the seats face the big stage where the show will take place. I will be sitting in my bubble and there will be a gap in the rows behind and in front of me and everyone will be wearing face coverings.

7 When the performance is about to start, people will stop talking and the lights will begin to dim. During the Christmas show, some of the people on stage will make the audience laugh and I can laugh too if I want to.

8

There may be some slightly louder noises and flashing lights. People may clap, stamp their feet or even get up and boogie to join in during the show. I can do this too if I want to. When the show has finished the audience will clap. This shows the people on stage that they enjoyed the performance.

9 When the people on stage have left and the curtain has come down that means the performance has finished. The lights will get brighter and I can leave through one of the exits. There could be lots of noise as I exit the theatre. This is okay because everyone is just leaving to go home.

THE STORY Our story is set in a magical place where all our favourite fairy tale characters live. The story starts with the Fairy Godmother asking Buttons to check that everybody has had their ‘happy ever after’. Buttons meets many panto friends including Jack from ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’, Sleeping Beauty, Rapunzel, the Genie from ‘Aladdin’ and Tommy the cat from ‘Dick Whittington’. Cinderella (Cinders) must make it to the Christmas Ball at Hardup Hall. Prince Juan wants to help Cinders, he wants to be a hero. He takes her on his horse but there are a few mishaps along the way. Buttons and the Fairy Godmother try everything to get Cinders to the Christmas Ball including a bus, a boat, a train, a taxi and even a magic carpet. Jack has had no milk since he sold the cow to buy the beans from which his great beanstalk grew. We meet The Hey Diddle Diddle Cow who helps Jack.

Dick Whittington has married Alice and become Mayor of London, but where has this left poor Tommy the cat? Even though he’s a very cheeky cat, he’s never mean and always funny. Then we meet Prince Two who is also looking for his happy ending and we see him save Rapunzel from the castle she has been trapped in. Humpty Dumpty is crying because he’s all alone at Christmas but help comes along and Humpty gets his happy ever after. Towards the end, we will meet the Genie who appears from Aladdin’s lamp with three wishes to grant. The cast will sing lots of happy Christmas songs and there will be some lovely surprises at the end with plenty of dancing and music. The audience can clap and wave their hands, stamp their feet and get up to boogie if they want to.
