Colour Runners get paint splattered for hospice charity A local charity recently brought a kaleidoscope of colour to Manchester with its latest fundraising event. More than 1600 people from across the city joined together for a special fun run with a difference, to raise essential funds to care for local patients from St Ann’s Hospice. Participants in the 5km sponsored Colour Run Event were showered with multi-coloured paint as they walked, ran or jogged the route through Wythenshawe Park. Runners were treated to a group Zumba warm up to get them in the mood, before setting off through the park. Throughout the untimed race, participants were covered in different coloured powder – a safe, environmentally friendly corn starch – along the route.

Runners were also encouraged to write the name of someone who means something to them on a special ribbon and wear it round their wrist on the day. These were then hung on a Tree of Dedication at the end of the run, just after participants had crossed the finish line. Alison Gilbody, Director of Income Generation and Communications at the hospice, said: “It was so humbling to see everyone from our local community coming together to support St Ann’s in this way – and having such brilliant fun at the same time. “Around a third of our funding comes from the NHS, which means we’re dependent on the amazing generosity of supporters like our Colour Runners to be able to continue to care for our patients and their families. “A huge thank you to everyone who has taken part, and every penny raised really does help the team at St Ann’s to support local patients, their families and carers at a time when they need it most.” For further information, or to make a donation, please visit www.sah.org.uk, or call: 0161 498 3663.
