FINNISH DESIGN THRIVES FROM TIMELESS FUNCTIONALISM AND JOY Finnish design is world famous, as Marimekko fabrics, buildings designed by Alvar Aalto and Angry Birds brand are well known throughout the world. After coming into the market in 1967, there have been over a billion sold pairs of the famous orangeheaded Fiskars scissors. The best-selling mobile phone on earth is Finnish Nokia 1100, which sold more than 250 million units over the five years. The breakthrough of Finnish design saw the daylight in the mid-1900s when Alvar and Aino established Artek, Armi Ratia founded Marimekko and Finnish design prospered in the Milan Triennial. Finnish design is user driven and all about functionalism. Practical problems are solved by combining the latest technology with good design. A practical approach will lead to a balanced, peaceful and often minimalistic appearance. Therefore, clean lines, a certain discipline and paucity characterize Finnish design. A functional design is timeless. It never gets old, but instead, will grow to become a classic. Although Finnish design belongs to the Scandinavian family, it often stands out as the bold, playful one.

INDEPENDENT TEXTILE COMPANY FROM FINLAND. Kauniste was launched in autumn of 2009 during the Helsinki Design Week. The original idea behind the first collection was to combine illustrators’ art prints into an everyday useful item. This is still our goal today: to combine illustrators’ original design works with items to use and cherish in your home. We work with talented up-and-coming designers & award winning illustrators and artists who paint, draw and cut from paper wonderful patterns. We want both our patterns and products to last and keep bringing joy to your home past seasonal trends.

Cotton makes the fabrics easy to care for, while linen makes it durable and gives our textiles the beautiful, light shimmer. NATURAL MATERIALS AND THE ENVIRONMENT. Our fabric production follows the environmental standards to make sure our products contain no harmful chemicals to human skin and that the environment is respected in all stages of production.

Lovi Ltd is a family run company based in Northern Finland. We produce flat packed 3D figures from wood, designed and patented by Anne Paso. The products are 100% made in Finland and made from the highest Finnish quality, PEFC certified birch plywood. The products are assembled by hands without any tools. The smallest Lovi products are envelope size and easy to send while the largest one is a 4-metertall Spruce Tree. Slotting cleverly together the beautiful Lovi shapes provide a sense of wonder as they take shape and come alive. All with the added satisfaction of working with your hands.

THE STORY “I wanted to create a wooden bauble for Christmas trees as an alternative to plastic ones in 2001. The very first version was a stick with veneer pieces glued to it. I quickly realized
