Exhibition World Bahrain, your new place to shine

The region’s largest and newest exhibition and convention centre, and the perfect place to say “I do”.

Under the patronage of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa al Khalifa, a keen golfer himself, Bahrain prepares to host top golfers for the Bahrain Championship 2024.

The DP World Tour is set to make a triumphant return to the Kingdom of Bahrain in 2024 after a 13-year hiatus. The Bahrain Championship, scheduled to take place at the picturesque Royal Golf Club from February 1 to 4, 2024, promises to be an unforgettable spectacle of sporting excellence.

Royal Patronage

Under the esteemed patronage of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa al Khalifa, a keen golfer himself, the Bahrain Championship is set to attract the world’s top golfers, who will compete for the coveted title and a share of the lucrative prize purse. The tournament is expected to draw a large contingent of international spectators eager to witness the finest golfing talent on display.

Speaking at the launch event in September, His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, First Deputy President of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, President of the General Sports Authority, and President of the Bahrain Olympic Committee said, “Golf enjoys the great support and care of His Majesty the King, who is a golfer himself. This reflects His Majesty’s great interest in sports and support for athletes. We are proud of the royal patronage of the tour, which will contribute to its success.”

Preparations Underway

In the run-up to the event, His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa who played a pivotal role in bringing the DP World Tour back to Bahrain, on a recent visit to the Royal Golf Club, emphasised the critical need for meticulous preparations.

Accompanied by senior officials from the General Sports Authority, Tourism Authority, and Olympic Committee, he conducted an extensive inspection tour, familiarising himself with the ongoing work and preparations for the Bahrain Championship.

He emphasised the necessity of redoubling efforts to finalise all arrangements and necessary preparations in alignment with the distinguished royal sponsorship and the tournament’s esteemed international status.

A Tournament of Distinction

The Bahrain Championship is set to be a landmark event in the Kingdom’s sporting calendar and marks a significant milestone in Bahrain’s journey to becoming a global hub for sports.

His Highness Shaikh Khalid affirmed Bahrain’s pride in hosting this prestigious international golf tournament at the Royal Golf Club, expressing confidence in the tour’s success.

Promoting Peace

Bahrain, led by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa al Khalifa, has a long-standing and rich record of religious freedom, commitment to uphold humanitarian values and a cohesive society marked by tolerance and peaceful coexistence.

This was highlighted by His Majesty the King’s visit to the Vatican and the Italian Republic, where he met with His Holiness Pope Francis, the head of the Catholic Church.

Their discussion centred on strengthening the cordial ties between Bahrain and the Vatican, emphasising the shared commitment to fostering tolerance, coexistence, human fraternity, constructive dialogue, and collaborative endeavours for the betterment of humanity.

Building upon this fruitful exchange, HM the King also held constructive talks with Sergio Mattarella, the President of Italy, and Giorgia Meloni, the Italian Prime Minister. Their discussions delved into the long-standing bilateral relations between the two nations, encompassing a comprehensive review of regional and global developments, with particular focus on the ongoing escalation in the Gaza Strip.

Both parties underscored the paramount importance of intensifying efforts to de-escalate the situation, prevent further deterioration, restore calm, safeguard civilians, and establish secure corridors for the delivery of humanitarian assistance to the Gaza Strip.

Eleanor Roosevelt’s words, “The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams,” have always resonated with me. Life N Style was born from such a dream, and now you hold the elegant reality of that dream in your hands.

As you turn these pages, you will embark on a journey of discovery, showcasing Bahrain in all its ethereal glory. We celebrate our growing influence in the sporting arena as the Kingdom gets ready to host the top golfers in the Bahrain Championship 2024 under the royal patronage of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.

Message from theChairman

Disruption is not about creating new markets. It’s about creating new ways of thinking about old markets.’ This is the thought that stays on the top of my mind when I enter any new sector or niche. With Life N Style and the luxury lifestyle publication market, to be honest, a lot of well-intentioned people tried to dissuade me. And I am glad they did-it only strengthened my resolve to go full steam ahead.

Our MD, Heena Mansoor and I had a vision of what we wanted to create. And I’m glad we did it. I am extremely proud of our publication and the love it has received from you - our readers, our advertisers and the industry in general. Some of whom, like Jewellery Arabia, where we launched the first issue, trusted us even before we had printed our first issue.

Our central theme this year was to promote Bahrain globally and cover the massive strides our beautiful island has on the global stage - in tourism, business, trade, and sports among others.

We have strived to represent the country’s amalgamation of rich cultural heritage and modernity, its stunning architecture, world-heritage sites, and vibrant cultural scene. We have also highlighted Bahrain’s local businesses and homegrown luxury brands.

In our interviews, we have managed to capture the true essence of those we have interviewed - from His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, HE Fatima al Sairafi, Tonino Lamborghini to Dr Nasser Al Qaedi and Dr Shaikha May Al Otaibi among many others.

From the moment we conceived of this magazine, we were driven by a passion for celebrating the best in luxury living. With each issue, we have strived to create a publication that is both informative and inspiring, showcasing the latest trends and developments in the luxury lifestyle world.

I am immensely proud of what we have accomplished in such a short time. Our team of talented journalists, photographers, and designers has worked tirelessly to bring you the highest quality content, and your support has been invaluable.

As we look to the future, we are excited to embark on the next chapter of Life N Style. We are committed to delivering even more innovative and premium content, and we look forward to continuing to share our passion for luxury living with you.

Dear readers, thank you for being a part of our journey.

Both nations are cradles of civilization; their ancient history is just one of the many aspects that binds them. In the modern era, economic trade, commercial partnerships and cultural ties have created a strong partnership between Bahrain and Italy. His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa’s recent visit to Italy underscored the robust bilateral relations between the two nations.

In an exclusive interview to Life N Style Magazine, the Italian Ambassador to Bahrain HE Paola Amadei took us through some of the significant milestones in Bahrain–Italy relations over the last couple of years.

Ambassador to Bahrain HE Paola Amadei: Over the last four years, I have had the great privilege of contributing to the deepening and strengthening of bilateral relations between Italy and Bahrain. This was possible thanks to the extraordinary collaboration I have consistently received from Bahraini institutions, starting from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, from all my counterparts, and from the private sector. I have always found the utmost willingness on the part of everyone I have met during these years, and I am deeply grateful to each of them for their contributions.

I have had the honour to partake in several visits. Firstly, of course, was the recent visit of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa bin Salman Al Khalifa in Rome in October 2023 where he met with the President of the Italian Republic, HE Sergio Mattarella, and the President of the Italian Council of Ministers, HE Giorgia Meloni.

‘Made in Italy’

Previously, I took part in the visit of the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, His Royal Highness Salman bin Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa to Rome in 2020, followed by Italian Deputy Foreign Minister Marina Sereni’s visit to Bahrain in 2021, and the visit of the Bahraini Foreign Minister Abdullatif Al Zayani to Rome.

I am glad to have contributed to the establishment of an Italian-Bahraini Joint Commission for our bilateral relations. The Joint Commission, launched in Bahrain in 2021 and recently convened for the first time in Rome, in June 2023, holds great promise for our future collaborations.

In terms of trade, of particular importance was the opening of the Italian Trade Agency (ITA) Desk in 2020. It has fostered mutually beneficial business partnerships, organised business delegations from Bahrain to Italy and assisted Italian companies seeking to enter the Bahraini market.

From a cultural point of view, Bahrain and Italy enjoy close cultural relations, evident through their excellent collaboration with organisations like the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities (BACA) and the Sheikh Ebrahim Center. Working closely with them has been a truly delightful experience. Italy’s cultural offerings are vast, and this collaboration with Bahrain further enhances the depth of cultural understanding and appreciation between the two nations.

The Embassy has also played an active role in promoting the Italian language and fostering academic relationships. We have worked to facilitate dialogue between Italian and Bahraini universities, promoting academic and cultural collaboration between the two countries.

We regularly organise lectures in collaboration with the Royal University for Women (RUW), where the ‘Grazia Deledda’ Italian Language and Cultural Center was established and where Italian language classes are available to the whole community.

What are the areas in which you would want more cooperation between the two nations?

I believe that the trade dimension holds exceptional importance, and it has been greatly facilitated by Bahrain’s genuine enthusiasm for everything, which is ‘Made in Italy’. The passion for Italy, its high technology expertise, innovation, remarkable craftsmanship, and the sheer beauty and quality of Italian products are extremely valued in Bahrain. Therefore, economic and commercial relations between the

two countries have been strong and growing steadily over the years. In 2020 the trade revenue amounted to approximately 585 million, in 2021 to 622 million, and in 2022 to 881 million euros.

The value of Bahraini exports to Italy has grown as well; in 2020 was $127 million increased up to $468 million in 2022. Bahrain is lively, welcoming, and open to trade, with a focus on the future and a past, rich in history, culture and traditions. We are committed to facilitating and enhancing opportunities for further development with the aim of developing a sustainable and fruitful strategic partnership for both nations.

However, I strongly believe that there is an area where we can expand our cooperation, and that is education. The number of Bahraini students who choose to study in Italy has increased and we collaborate closely with Bahraini academic institutions, not only by promoting the teaching of the Italian language but also by organising study exchange programs and facilitating cooperation between universities.

You have had an illustrious political career spanning well over two decades and have spent time in the region earlier as the Ambassador to Oman and now Bahrain. How different is being a diplomat in the Middle East from your work in the various ministries in Italy, Singapore or the European Union?

It has been a great honour for me to serve my country in many roles. With a Master’s degree in Advanced European Studies from the College of Europe in Belgium, I have been involved in foreign relations with different countries and regions, both in my service in Rome and Brussels.

HM King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa with Giorgia Meloni, the Italian Prime Minister

I have been particularly involved in trade policy and promotion, especially during my mandate as Deputy Head of Mission and Head of the Commercial Office at the beginning of my career at the Italian Embassy in Singapore.

Before serving in Bahrain, I was in Oman, so I have developed a certain familiarity with the region. The Gulf region is of strategic importance on multiple fronts: politically, in terms of security, and economically. Meanwhile, it is a vibrant and dynamic area, open to economic and cultural exchanges, and I feel privileged to have had the opportunity to serve here.

In the past couple of months, your Excellency, you have organised two beautiful events promoting two fields that Italians famously excel in: Fashion and Music. Can you tell us more about how these collaborations came about and shed some light on the plans for the future?

Italy has so much to offer that it can be at times arduous to limit its excellence to only an event; however, thanks to the incredible artists that we bring from Italy and the amazing professionals of the local entities we collaborate with, this can be possible. This was in the case of the two most recent events.

The fashion exhibition “Racconti di Moda Italiana - Tales of Italian Fashion” was curated by Stefano Dominella, Honorary President of the renowned Italian fashion house Gattinoni, displayed creations from historical archives from the 1950s to today and included pieces worn by the most iconic Hollywood divas and a collection made entirely with eco-sustainable materials. I believe you have carried an interview with Mr Dominella who explains about this event in great detail.

The event celebrated the excellence of Italian fashion demonstrating how it is not only one of the main production sectors - which counts for 24.2 % of the Italian exports to Bahrain - but constitutes a true form of fine and delicate art, recognised and admired throughout the world for its elegance, refinement, creativity and innovation.

In early October we organised, with the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Research, the concert “A Tribute to Ennio Morricone: Oscar Film Scores” by Il Quintetto Anedda, held

at the Cultural Hall, Manama, on the occasion of the 32nd Bahrain International Music Festival. Il Quintetto Anedda took the audience on a journey of enchanting music from the soundtracks of the legendary Italian film music composer Ennio Morricone, performing twelve musical compositions created by Maestro Morricone for a number of famous films, including Cinema Paradiso (1988), The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (1966), among others.

From December 2021 until now, the Italian Embassy presented eight music concerts, with amazing artists performing opera, classical and popular Italian music. All the events registered a full house to prove the continued appreciation and interest expressed by the Bahraini community towards our country’s cultural heritage.

Your work at the embassy is quite strenuous, what do you like to do relax and destress?

I have always tried to engage in physical exercise. Staying physically active is very important for our health, and I’ve always made it a part of my life. Among the various physical activities I enjoy, swimming and yoga hold a special place in my heart.

These two practices offer a harmonious blend of physical fitness and mental tranquillity. These activities provide me with the opportunity to spend some time outside and it is also a way for me to relax while getting some exercise.

We believe you are a polyglot and proficient in several languages. What attracted you to learning these languages?

I have always had a deep love for studying languages, as they serve as extraordinary vehicles for understanding culture and traditions. The Arabic language, in particular, is not only beautiful but also incredibly complex as is deeply intertwined with diverse cultural traditions across the Arabic-speaking world.

HRH Shaikh Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and then First Deputy Prime Minister inaugurated the Embassy of the Kingdom of Bahrain in Rome, Italy in February 2020

I encourage young people to embark on the journey of language learning, no matter which language fascinates them. A journey offers both linguistic growth and a deeper connection to the world’s diversity. In addition, of course, I encourage them to study the Italian language, a beautiful language known for its melodic sound, rich poetry, and cultural significance.

The Tourism Juggernaut

Bahrain being named the ‘Capital of Gulf Tourism for 2024 has brought into sharp focus the outstanding contributions and discernible impact of the Bahrain Tourism and Exhibition Authority’s (BTEA) on elevating the tourism sector in the region with its proactive understanding of the significance of tourism as a major non-oil economic contributor and the promotion of collaborative endeavours within the Gulf tourism industry.

This effort has been spearheaded by the CEO of Bahrain Tourism and Exhibition Authority, Dr Nasser Al Qaedi, who, since he took over the post in 2020, has ensured that the sector has had exponential growth and constantly exceeded targets and expectations with dynamic and innovative campaigns to promote the Kingdom of Bahrain - locally, regionally and internationally. In an exclusive conversation with Life N Style Magazine, Dr Nasser spoke about the achievements of the BTEA and laid out the plans for the future of this tourism juggernaut.

Since its inception in 1992, Jewellery Arabia has grown year-on-year to become one of the most influential jewellery marketplaces in the Middle East, regularly uniting over 650 global brands with 60,000+ avid buyers. What can we expect from this largest jewellery show in the Middle East this year?

Dr Nasser Al Qaedi: Jewellery Arabia is one of the leading jewellery marketplaces in the Middle East, and it has been successful in boosting Bahrain’s global position in the large MICE industry over the past three decades.

Last year, Jewellery Arabia registered the highest sales records compared to the previous editions. The value of exhibited local products was BD 888 million, compared with BD 510 million in 2021, marking a 74% increase. The value of imported products was BD 24 million, compared with BD 20 million in 2021, marking an increase of 17.6%. The increase is 75% compared to 2019 and 98% compared to 2018.

Thousands of visitors are expected to attend the 31st edition of Jewellery Arabia, which will be held under the patronage of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Bahrain, at Exhibition World Bahrain, Sakhir, from November 14 to 18.

Thanks to Exhibition World Bahrain’s huge potential as the Middle East’s newest and largest convention and exhibition centre, Informa Markets was able to double the size of Jewellery Arabia last year, exceeding 54,000 sqm.

This year, the exhibition will be held in five halls with brandnew features, including a VIP room to network and relax. On top of that, a dedicated wristwatch area will be set up for watch enthusiasts and collectors. The returning Jewellery Arabia ‘Rising Stars’ pavilion will give young jewellery designers the opportunity to showcase their designs. Gold Souq, another successful feature of Jewellery Arabia, will be returning this year. In addition to introducing new ranges of ultra-high-end jewellery and watches for the first time.

Dubai Design Academy, which provides accredited professional jewellery-making and design courses in the UAE, is offering workshops throughout Jewellery Arabia. Participants will have the opportunity to learn from experienced jewellery makers and designers and to create their own unique pieces of jewellery.

Bahrain was recently named ‘Capital of the Gulf Tourism’ for 2024. This is due to the significant push made by the BTEA and the Ministry of Tourism to proactively promote Bahrain as a unique tourism destination. We have heard about the multitude of things being planned to further enhance tourism on the island - the beachfront properties and chalets etc, can you give us a sneak peek?

The Kingdom of Bahrain earned this prestigious designation due to its outstanding contributions and evident impact on elevating the Gulf tourism sector. Recognised for its proactive understanding of the significance of tourism as a major non-oil economic contributor, Bahrain’s efforts stood out in promoting collaborative endeavours within the Gulf tourism industry. The country’s foresight in recognising tourism’s potential as a vital sector capable of driving economic growth and ensuring sustainable development played a significant role in this decision.

This consensus among Gulf nations underscores the Kingdom’s steadfast dedication to bolstering tourism competitiveness throughout the region. The aim is to establish this sector as a cornerstone supporting the Gulf economies and a substantial contributor to the national income of the region’s countries.

It also shines a spotlight on the pivotal role of significant investments in enhancing tourism infrastructure and elevating environmental standards and sustainability in hotels and tourist establishments.

Bahrain is situated to add exceptional value to the maritime and waterfront industries, ensuring the best possible experience for GCC citizens, residents, and tourists worldwide in the Kingdom, supported by world-class infrastructure, a convenient location at the heart of the Middle East, and a broad selection of attractions and activities. BTEA will spare

no effort to explore more creative ways to enhance tourism competence.

Bahrain’s marine tourism industry is a major contributor to the country’s economy, and the Government is committed to preserving the country’s natural resources for future generations to enjoy.

Our tourism vision lies in shifting the Kingdom into an ideal island destination with the tangible boom of the marine tourism industry, thanks to its stunning archipelago, rich marine life, and pristine beaches. Bahrain offers a range of water sports and activities, including scuba diving, snorkelling, jet skiing, and sailing, as well as pearling, fishing trips and dolphin-watching tours. Visitors can also enjoy a range of luxury experiences, such as private yacht charters, sunset cruises, and beachfront resorts.

Based on its rich cultural identity and multiple appealing attractions that cater to all ages, the Kingdom is strongly positioned to preserve its lead as the preferred destination for GCC and international travellers to the Gulf.

The Kingdom unveiled in late 2021, a new 2022–2026 tourism strategy that aims to boost the contribution of the sector to Bahrain’s GDP.

Based on this ambitious strategy, Bahrain is expected to attract over 14 million tourists by 2026. The Kingdom is also committed to sustainable tourism practices, ensuring that our tourism industry benefits the local community as well as the environment.

The strategy’s launch follows the implementation of major national tourism projects totalling BD 134 million, which comprise developing the diving waterfront, the Bahrain Bay beach project, and the Qalali Coast waterfront. The work is still in progress when it comes to several tourist resort projects, such as the Mantis Hotel and Resort in the Hawar Islands, the Tourist City project, and the Saada project, alongside the completion of the Jumeirah Bahrain Bay Resort and the Bilaj Aljazayer Beach development project.

The opening of the Exhibition World, the one-of-its-kind exhibition and convention centre created a buzz in the region. There have been a variety of awe-inspiring shows, and exhibitions in 2023; what are the plans in place for 2024, and will the focus also be on MICE tourism?

Since its opening in November 2022, EWB has become an internationally recognised venue for the MICE industry. The quality, professional teams, and comprehensive facilities make EWB one of the most popular venues in the Middle East.

In its inaugural year, EWB successfully hosted a variety of international conventions and exhibitions and welcomed numerous delegates from around the globe. The centre has secured over 200 bookings for various event types and sizes, both locally and internationally.

Bahrain is well-known for its major exhibitions like Jewellery Arabia, the Autumn Fair, the Middle East Oil & Gas Show (MEOS) and the Middle East Geosciences Conference & Exhibition (GEO), and EWB is keen to attract various prestigious functions and events that tackle topical issues such as sustainable development, FinTech, digital transformation, AI and data, supply chains and logistics, smart cities, green economies, renewable energy, mobility decarbonisation, and much more.

To date, EWB has proudly hosted a total of 142 events, attracting over half a million local and international visitors, and is targeting multiple sizeable local, regional, and international exhibitions and conventions for the rest of this year.

EWB is ramping up its efforts to host a vast array of events in the coming months. The Centre will see the return of the annual Jewellery Arabia, Cityscape Bahrain, and Scent Arabia exhibitions in November, along with the Autumn Fair, Arab International Cyber Security Summit, and Manama Health Conference and Exhibition in December.

EWB has a full agenda of renowned local, regional, and international events scheduled for 2024, including large conventions and exhibitions as well as live concerts, galas, large-scale weddings, banquets, graduation celebrations, product launches and other events.

With the backing of the Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority (BTEA) and other local authorities, organisations, and associations in the Kingdom, EWB is on track to win new bids for several significant regional and worldwide conferences.

EWB continues to get a strong level of interest from regional and international clients and event organisers interested in organising their events in the Centre and in Bahrain as an ideal MICE destination. The EWB team is working around the clock to attract major events to the Kingdom, actively contributing to the growth of our tourism sector and impacting the national economy.

Due to its exquisite beaches, rich cultural heritage, and booming tourism infrastructure, the Kingdom of Bahrain is on the right track to transform into the most sought-after leisure and hospitality destination in the Middle East.

EWB, in collaboration with BTEA, has developed direct contacts with top wedding planners and bridal event stakeholders, offering special wedding services and promoting Bahrain’s distinctive elements in wedding planning for the sake of attracting more potential wedding couples and families regionally and globally, supporting EWB’s endeavour to become a key player in hosting large events of any type and size.

EWB will also host the 9th World Forum on Gastronomy Tourism in 2024, the world’s largest gastronomy tourism event, after the World Tourism Organization’s (UNWTO) recent announcement to name the Kingdom of Bahrain to host this prestigious event for the first time in the region, which reflects the Kingdom’s exceptional tourism and entertainment capabilities as one of the leading gastronomy and gourmet destinations in the Middle East.

Eco-tourism is gaining a steady foothold in Bahrain, and there are already three UNESCO Heritage Sites: Dilmun Burial Mounds; Pearling, Testimony of an Island Economy; and Qal’at al-Bahrain – Ancient Harbour and Capital of Dilmun. How is the Tourism Ministry and BTEA planning to enhance the experience of eco-tourism?

There are considerably more appealing things to do and see when it comes to eco-tourism. From historic attractions to water activities and unique scenery, the Kingdom caters to countless tourism interests.

The Ministry and BTEA are working closely to boost ecotourism experiences, where marine enthusiasts have the chance to plunge into pearl diving to learn more about Bahrain’s rich seafaring legacy or observe part of the secondlargest herd of 150-250 dugongs in their natural habitat, the Hawar Islands.

Heritage enthusiasts can explore Manama Souq, one of the region’s oldest markets, with plentiful souvenir shops, gold and jewellery outlets, and traditional breakfast restaurants.

Along with visiting Bahrain Fort, one of the Gulf’s few UNESCO World Heritage sites, with over 5,000 years of history, and the Pearling Path, another UNESCO World Heritage Site, which can be experienced and visited at any point of its 3.5km stretch that snakes through the old alleyways of Muharraq, The Dilmun Burial Mounds in the Aali Area is another UNESCO World Heritage Site, representing the rich history of the early Dilmun period.

Sports tourism is at an all-time high with the Bahrain Grand Prix 2023 being a soldout event and registering the most number of international visitors and now DP World Tour is making a long-awaited return for the first time in 13 years with the Bahrain Championship, set to take place at Royal Golf Club - tell us more about the role that sports tourism in the larger scheme of things?

Bringing one of the most renowned sports championships across the globe to Bahrain comes in line with the Kingdom’s Tourism Strategy (2022-2026), which prioritises sports tourism as one of its main pillars. This will increase interest in the Kingdom and its distinctive tourism initiatives and capabilities on a global scale, placing Bahrain at the forefront of the region’s fastest-growing tourism sectors.

These prestigious events are an integral part of BTEA’s steady strides to promote Bahrain as an international tourism hub and enhance tourism product diversification by focusing on sports and recreational tourism.

These major sports events will showcase Bahrain to a huge global audience as a favourable tourism destination with plenty of historical monuments, museums, retail centres, beaches, water sports, and numerous hotels and resorts, offering an unforgettable experience for all types of travellers seeking a unique holiday.

Sakhir, home of the Middle East’s motorsport and F1, is becoming one of Bahrain’s most vibrant areas, hosting the Kingdom’s up-and-coming hub for events, sports, and entertainment. With the Bahrain International Circuit (BIC), there will be the soon-to-be developed Bahrain International Sports City, with easy access to the new Bahrain International Airport, over 18,000 hotel rooms, and a wide range of attractions and dining experiences.

The Kingdom of Bahrain is gearing up for the FIBA 3x3 Basketball which will be held on November 16th and 17th at Bahrain Harbour for the first time in the Kingdom. The FIBA 3x3 Manama Masters is a highly anticipated basketball tournament organised by the Bahrain Olympic Committee, Bahrain Basketball Association, and the General Sports Authority. This tournament will feature some of the best 3x3 basketball teams from around the world going head-to-head in a thrilling competition.

After its incredible debut last year, the World Series of Darts, featuring the best players across the globe, returns to BIC on 18 and 19 January 2024, supported by BTEA.

The DP World Tour is set to return to the Kingdom of Bahrain for the first time in 13 years with the Bahrain Championship scheduled to take place at Royal Golf Club from February 1-4, 2024. Organising this event is part of Bahrain’s continued commitment to supporting various sports, including golf.

Which regions and countries are we focussing on tourism from and where is the most of our current tourist influx from?

The Kingdom witnessed during the last nine months a tangible increase in tourism traffic from different regions across the world, mainly from the GCC, Europe, India, China, and more markets, and we are still working vigorously to attract more tourists from these targeted regions.

In collaboration with tourism partners, the Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority has launched special packages to welcome tourists from the GCC countries and other nationalities, ensuring exciting times at many attractive events by celebrating several seasons.

The tourism packages grant tourists and visitors the opportunity to visit or stop in Bahrain with hotel reservations, enjoy sightseeing activities tailored to their budget, and access to events and celebrations.

What is your vision for Bahrain as a global destination in the next five years?

Bahrain is set to become a global destination in the next five years. The destination’s tourism sector exceeded the targets set last year under its 2022–26 tourism strategy.

According to the 2022 statistics, the number of visitors arriving for tourism purposes reached 9.9 million, up by 19% over the target number of 8.3 million visitors.

Inbound tourism in Bahrain recovered by 90% in 2022 compared to pre-pandemic levels, exceeding the international recovery average of 65% anticipated by the World Tourism Organisation.

As for the first six month of 2023, the number of inbound tourists increased by 51%, reaching 5.9 million visitors, up from 3.9 million visitors at the same time in 2022. Total overnights reached 8.9 million overnights for January-June 2023, up 54% from 5.8 million overnights over the same period in 2022.

According to the trip types, the same-day visitors reported a 43% increase from 2.3 million visitors during January–June 2022 to 3.3 million visitors during the same six months in 2023. Overnight visitors (tourists) increased by 63% from nearly 1.6 million visitors in the first six months of 2022 to approximately 2.6 million visitors during the same period in 2023.

These tourism indexes reflect our success in heading steadily with planned and firm steps towards accomplishing the KPIs according to the tourism strategy 2022–2026, which aims to turn the Kingdom into a preferable tourism destination globally by diversifying the tourism product and increasing the targeted countries.

Based on these positive figures, we are eager for more success stories in tourism in the company of our key partners and stakeholders as we move forward with more festivities and entertaining events to come. Lots of tourism events are on the way, with a calendar full of festivals at various locations and venues across Bahrain throughout the coming years.

In line with the Kingdom’s new 2022-2026 tourism strategy, Bahrain is expected to attract over 14 million tourists by 2026, supported by more tourism investments and projects in the pipeline to increase several appealing attractions in the Kingdom. In addition, BTEA is in the process of launching new tourism packages, festivals, entertainment activities, incentives and much more to provide exceptional experiences for all visitors.

More efforts are underway to enhance cooperation with the national carrier Gulf Air to increase inbound visitors on its fleet and utilise its widespread network of destinations worldwide, which will assist us in achieving the tourism strategy goals to diversify tourism products and boost Bahrain’s air connectivity to attract more targeted markets and regions.

Jewel of Arabia

His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa at Jewellery Arabia

Scintillating jewels as far as the eye can see. Some set in exquisite designs - modern and classic, some uncut, nestled against black velvet- each akin to a piece of molten sun reflecting the radiance in a myriad of colours - white, yellow, blue and pink and yet others still set in luxury timepieces. Lustrous pearls and gold of all hues also find a place under the vast expanse of the Exhibition World Bahrain which houses the region’s most prestigious Jewellery and Watch exhibitionJewellery Arabia.

A must-attend event in Bahrain’s calendar, Jewellery Arabia, is held under the patronage of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Bahrain. From Cartier, Bulgari, Patek Phillipe and more - most world-famous jewellery houses and watch manufacturers have been consistent participants,

many of whom choose Jewellery Arabia to introduce new collections and limited-edition pieces to the Middle East collector’s market.

The 2023 edition is a true blend of contemporary and bold design, drawing inspiration from the Art Deco movement; a unique vision combining avant-garde styles with fine craftsmanship marks a new direction for Jewellery Arabia. Life N Style Magazine spoke to Mr Mohammad Ebrahim, Exhibitions Director, Informa Markets, who has been with the organisation for 15 years and has seen the exhibition’s stratospheric growth trajectory.

My 15 years at Informa Markets have been an incredible journey. It’s been a dynamic and evolving experience filled with opportunities for growth and innovation. It is amazing to see how the shows have transformed throughout the years and how the Bahrain market has evolved. We made an incredible shift to the new venue last year and have worked on welcoming new exhibitors and adding new features. It’s amazing to run those events here and to be part of the economic growth of Bahrain.

Mr Mohammad Ebrahim, Exhibitions Director, Informa Markets

Charting a Growth Trajectory

Jewellery Arabia has grown exponentially - in sheer size and prestige- in the last decade, and to ensure that it remains a must-visit show, especially in the Middle East, requires implementing a comprehensive strategy says Mr Ebrahim.

“Our strategy revolved around carefully selecting a diverse range of exhibitors, introducing cutting-edge features and implementing targeted marketing campaigns to engage with our audience. We continuously strive to stay ahead by offering the best possible experience.

Innovation is of utmost importance, and we consistently introduce new features to enhance the show. It is not just a platform for purchasing jewellery; it also serves as an educational forum with informative talks and discussions. Moreover, we recognise the importance of sustainability and actively seek solutions to address the challenges our industry faces today.

Through our commitment to the evolution of the exhibitions industry, we aim to ensure that we are delivering the best possible experience for our customers.

“We believe that by moving away from the use of disposable exhibition stands we will improve the ease, quality, safety and sustainability of the exhibitor experience at our events”.

Growing Stronger Together

The exhibition from its humble beginnings in 1992, set out to ensure that it can build successful synergies and associations with Bahraini brands and entrepreneurs through the course of many exhibitions and it has been very successful in that aspect.

Mr Ebrahim elaborates and proudly names the brands that have worked hand-in-hand together to ensure the success of Jewellery Arabia through the decades, ‘Throughout the numerous exhibitions we organise, we have successfully established strong partnerships and connections with Bahraini brands and entrepreneurs.

By providing them with a platform to showcase their products and engage with a global audience, we have facilitated the growth of both local and international businesses.

This collaborative approach has nurtured enduring relationships and cultivated a dedicated group of loyal exhibitors who consistently participate in our events. Some of these esteemed exhibitors include Al Zain Group, AMEX (Middle East), Asia Jewellers, Bahrain Jewellery Centre, Behbehani Brothers, Bhaskar Devji, Credimax, Kooheji Jewellery”.

It is an exciting time for the industry in the Middle East - with the lucrative neighbouring Saudi Arabia market thriving, as an insider Mr Ebrahim sees this as a chance to capitalise by enhancing their reach. It’s a promising time for our industry, and we’re eager to be part of this growth. We are focusing on the economic growth in Bahrain and are fully aligned with the Bahrain 2030 vision of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, The Crown Prince and Prime Minister of the Kingdom Of Bahrain.”

WHAT’S NEW AT JEWELLERY ARABIA

This year the exhibition will be held in five halls with brand new features which include a VIP room to network and relax. There will be a dedicated wristwatch area will be set up for watch enthusiasts and collectors. The returning Jewellery Arabia ‘Rising Stars’ pavilion will grant young jewellery designers the opportunity to showcase their designs.

The popular Gold Souk, a staple of Jewellery Arabia, will also be back this year. Finally, a comprehensive Talks programme exclusively for jewellery enthusiasts will run this year at Jewellery Arabia on the Diamond Dialogues Stage.

Dubai Design Academy, which provides accredited professional jewellery-making and design courses are offering workshops throughout the event. These workshops are open to all levels of experience, from beginners to advanced students. Participants will have the opportunity to learn from experienced jewellery makers and designers and to create their unique pieces of jewellery.

Looking Forward

As 2023 comes to a close, we asked Mr Ebrahim, about the plans Informa Market has in place for 2024. “We are excited about the upcoming years as it promises a diverse range of events that will invigorate our exhibitions. This includes new product launches, collaborations with emerging designers, and industry conferences that will offer innovative perspectives. Additionally, we are expanding our reach by venturing into new sectors, which will contribute to the enhancement of our events. While we cannot disclose specific details at the moment, rest assured that we are also focussing on improving our existing shows”.

With 15 years at Informa Markets, Mr Ebrahim counts the relentless effort to establish Jewellery Arabia as the premier destination for jewellery and watch enthusiasts in the Middle East as his biggest success.

“However, our most daunting challenge emerged from the disruptions caused by the pandemic, which compelled us to demonstrate adaptability and resilience. The COVID-19 crisis affected all sectors, but we persevered. Continuously exceeding exhibitors’ and visitors’ expectations remains a valuable opportunity. And while we celebrate last year’s success with a new venue, our determination to reach even greater heights fuels our pursuit of the next significant accomplishment”, he says.

Inspirational Trailblazer

Dr May bint Sulaiman Al Otaibi is a role model for women everywhere. She has been a true pioneer, especially as an educator and a proponent of women’s empowerment and she is paving the way for future generations of Bahraini women.

bint Sulaiman Al Otaibi

In a wide-ranging conversation, Dr Shaikha May Al Otaibi spoke to Life N Style Magazine about her life’s work as a visionary educationist, a successful entrepreneur and a trailblazer for Bahraini women.

Building the Nation’s Future

As the founder of the prestigious Bahrain Bayan School, the first bilingual school on the island known for its commitment to innovation and its focus on developing students’ critical thinking and problem-solving skills, Dr Al Otaibi ensured that with the right amalgamation of pride in Arab identity, Bahraini culture and Western education, the school grooms young Bahrainis of today into leaders, thinkers and entrepreneurs of tomorrow. Today several of the school’s alumni lead in the private and public sector in Bahrain.

Dr Al Otaibi shares with us the inspiration that started her down this path, “Teaching has always been my dream since I was a child. I used to use the carbon on the back of our chairs as a blackboard and imagine a class full of students listening to me explain a lesson. It is my passion to build awareness about education and its importance. Only when we prioritize good education can we build sincere, passionate, empowered future leaders who put community and country first in all their endeavours.”

Promoting Bahraini Women Entrepreneurs

Dr May established the incubator ‘+973 Artisanat Creative Entrepreneurs’ in 2012 to encourage and empower local talent. She proudly talks about this initiative and several of its success stories. “We are the first and only non-profit initiative in the Kingdom of Bahrain in partnership with Tamkeen and the Ministry of Labour and Social Development aimed at encouraging and empowering local talent.

At +973 we assist novice entrepreneurs with all aspects of setting up and running a business, from establishing their brand, providing showroom space and sales staff, and supporting them with marketing. Since its inception, more than 300 entrepreneurs have ‘graduated’ from +973 Artisanat, and have gone on to establish their own showrooms successfully”.

Here are some of the success stories:

Al-Rumaysa’ Buhumud, the owner of the ‘AlKashkha’ brand for perfumes and fragrances. She launched her perfume project in the +973 Artisanat incubator. She had a very good response from the market and has three branches in the most famous commercial complexes in Bahrain.

Aisha Al-Zayani, a Bahraini fashion designer and owner of the Dar Al-Wala brand launched her fashion design project in the +973 Artisanat which did extremely well and now she owns two branches in Al-Aali Mall and Souq Al-Baraha.

Sharifa Al-Noaimi is a Bahraini fashion designer, and owner of the Ranis Collection brand, launched her fashion design project in the +973 Artisanat and now she owns two branches in Al-Aali Mall and Souq Al-Baraha.

Pride of Bahrain

Dr Al Otaibi is a highly respected figure in Bahrain who has been recognised the world over for her work in education and philanthropy. She has received numerous awards and accolades for her work including the Zayed Future Energy Prize and the World Education Summit Award, United Arab Emirates.

She was recently awarded the Arab Woman of the Year 2023 by the London Arab Foundation for which she was congratulated by Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, Wife of His Majesty the King, President of the Supreme Council for Women. “Of the many awards I have received, the one that I cherish the most and hold dear to my heart, is the Efficiency Award I received from His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa in 2011”, says Dr May.

When asked what inspires her and keeps her going, Dr Shaikha May Al Otaibi says, “It is my passion to serve people. Not to please them but to make an impact. And the desire to find novel solutions. Innovation and creativity inspire me to break barriers and develop groundbreaking ideas, to create something entirely new.”

Reflecting on her journey as a woman leader, Dr Otaibi shares some of the key lessons she has learned along the way, “Leadership is not easy - it comes from experience. There are many qualities that enable one to be a good leader but the most important one is humility. Being humble and grounded is what makes a true leader. Logic, good decision-making and being a team member before being a leader are the hallmarks of a great leader”, she says.

Women Empowerment & its Challenges

With its progressive policies, supportive initiatives and inclusive environment, Bahrain is nurturing its women entrepreneurs. The Kingdom’s commitment to empowering women is exemplified through initiatives like Tamkeen’s Riyadat program and rising startups like Playbook, by offer educational resources and networking opportunities to enable Bahraini women to develop and expand their business ventures while helping them with their career progression.

Last year, the Supreme Council for Women, highlighted significant achievements in Bahrain’s women entrepreneurship landscape - 42% of active commercial registrations and 53% of virtual commercial registrations in Bahrain were owned by women. It is noteworthy that 37% of these businesses have been successfully operating for more than five years.

Inauguration done by Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka Bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa

Dr Al Otaibi feels that this is not the time for us to rest on our laurels,” Bahraini women are exceeding our expectations in all areas, but they still need to work harder”.

In the workforce in Bahrain too, women have made incredible strides, they make up 83 per cent of tertiary school enrollments, 54 per cent of the public sector workforce, and 45 per cent of leadership positions in official state agencies. In the private sector, women comprise 35 per cent of the workforce, hold 17 per cent of board seats, and occupy 35 per cent of managerial roles. The political landscape is no different, as Bahraini women make up 20 per cent of the total members of the Council of Representatives, 25 per cent of the Shura Council and there are five women ministers heading important ministries including health and tourism.

However, the gender parity challenges remain and the Supreme Council of Women, says Dr Shaikha May Al Otaibi, has worked very hard to raise awareness and find solutions for some of these challenges. “Women often face gender stereotypes in the workplace and prejudices.

To overcome this challenge, the Kingdom of Bahrain, along with the Supreme Council for Women worked very hard to promote diversity and inclusion initiatives, implement policies that support equal opportunities for women and guarantee that women and men get equal pay across all ministries in the Kingdom. This is in addition to the new amendments to the labour law which support women in various forms such as increasing the duration of maternity leave and suckling hours”.

Inspiring the Next Generation

Dr Shaikha May Al Otaibi is a living example of what can be achieved through hard work, dedication, and perseverance. She is an inspiration to women everywhere to pursue their dreams and to make a difference in their communities.

She shared with us the message of hope and empowerment she would like to convey to young girls and women on Bahraini Women’s Day, “You are strong, resilient, and capable of achieving anything you set your mind to. Do not be afraid to take risks and step outside your comfort zone, and remember consistency is the key.

Do not be a follower, try to be innovative, think outside the box and embrace your unique talents and skills, these are your greatest assets. Support your fellow women and girls, lifting each other up and celebrating each other’s successes”.

‘Tales of Italian Fashion’

Stefano Dominella, Honorary President of the Gattinoni fashion house

What would the devil wear if it were not Prada? How could you listen to your favourite old-school hip-hop without having Moschino and Gucci name-checked in the lyrics? From Audrey Hepburn’s fifties ensembles in A Roman Holiday, Anita Ekberg’s voluptuous gown in the Trevi fountain in La Dolce Vita, to Gwyneth Paltrow’s Ischian wardrobe in The TalentedMr Ripley, Italian fashion is embedded in the very DNA of Hollywood haute couture. Even their brand logos are the very essence of pop culture - from Versace’s Medusa head and Valentino Red, Gucci’s horse bit and Dolce & Gabbana’s sun-drenched celebration of Sicily, to Fendi’s Baguettes, Bottega Veneta’s Intrecciato weave, Max Mara’s camel coats and Missoni’s zig-zag knits.

The Italian Embassy in Bahrain gave fashion lovers in the Kingdom of Bahrain a unique opportunity to trace the journey of Italian fashion through the prism of its Hollywood popularity with an exquisite exhibition it organised - Racconti di ModaIt aliana (Tales of Italian Fashion), in collaboration with the Shaikh Ebrahim bin Mohammed Al Khalifa Centre for Culture and Research.

Speaking to Life N Style Magazine, maestro Stefano Dominella, Honorary President of the Gattinoni fashion house, thanked HE Paola Amadei, the Italian Ambassador to Bahrain for her championship of the event and without whom

the event would not have been possible. “Italy and Bahrain have much in common, as in their rich cultural heritage, traditions, and, of course, fashion. I am more than happy to be hosting this very special exhibition in Bahrain, for the first time in the region”, he said..

The Hollywood Connection

The exhibition, says Mr Dominella, takes you on a magical journey and tells the story of Italian fashion since the 1950s and highlights its Hollywood connection. It was at this time (after the second World War) that Hollywood movies became obsessed with Italian fashion and its designers.

Rome became Italy’s ‘Hollywood on the Tiber’ when American filmmakers started shifting production overseas. Hollywood stars like Eva Gardner, Audrey Hepburn, and Liz Taylor regularly wore Italian designers, while the Italian costume designer Danilo Donati frequently designed for Italian film makers like Federico Fellini and Luchino Visconti.

“On display at the exhibition are an amazing array of neverbefore-seen creations from the historical archives of Gattinoni including a collection of the original dresses worn by Hollywood divas like Audrey Hepburn’s ensemble in the 1956 film War and Peace, that we spoke about earlier, as well as the Anita Ekberg’s dress from the iconic Italian film La Dolce Vita, directed by Federico Fellini in 1960”.

Also on display were glamorous creations by giants of Italian fashion like Giorgio Armani, Guillermo Mariotto, Dolce and Gabbana, Missoni, Valentino Garavani, Etro, Gianfranco Ferrè, Gianni Versace, Roberto Cavalli, Pino Lancetti and some of the most important fashion designers of the 1950s such as Emilio Schuberth, Tita Rossi and Jole Veneziani.

Stefano Dominella with celebrities

Maison Gattanoni

Maison Gattinoni has been in fashion for 77 years and is a powerhouse of Italian fashion. “We designed Audrey Hepburn Oscar-winning costumes for the 1956 film War and Peace and just this year we have designed dresses for Beyonce - so you can see we have a rich, illustrious history as well as a robust presence even today”, said Mr Dominella.

Gattinoni was favoured by such fashion pioneers as Jackie Kennedy Onassis, Ingrid Bergman, Eva Perón, among others.

The late Fernanda Gattinoni was celebrated by Hollywood stars of the 1950s and 1960s for creating strikingly elegant designs worn both on and off the silver screen.

An intense attention to quality and detail combined with innovation is what makes Italian fashion exceptional. The humble, highly skilled, talented people working in Italian mills who make these incredibly sophisticated, complicated designs are indeed praiseworthy. Often people think fashion can be frivolous and not vital, but there’s a humanity behind the gloss of Italian fashion that’s really beautiful and it needs to be celebrated with exhibitions like these more often.

Sustainable Superyacht Concept

Monaco’s glittering shores and azure waters have always played host to the globe’s most extraordinary superyachts. But this year, at the 2023 Monaco Yacht Show, the maritime elite witnessed a debut that represents not just luxury and opulence but a promising vision for the future: Feadship’s latest Concept Design, ‘Dunes’.

Feadship, the iconic Dutch shipbuilder, presented one of its most significant stride towards its Net-Zero superyacht ambition. Why is it so exceptional? It promises an impressive reduction of up to 95% in environmental impact factors, as per the YETI index.

Its innovation lies not in what you can see, but in the meticulously crafted details lurking beneath its stunning façade. At first glance, Dunes presents an aesthetic masterpiece. The ever-shifting sand dunes, with their fluid contours, influenced the yacht’s organic lines, suggesting both continuity and adaptability.

It promises adaptability through multi-purpose spaces that oscillate between open-plan grandeur and intimate seclusion. But beneath this exquisite design lies the yacht’s pièce de résistance: its sustainability features.

Unlike its predecessors, Dunes avoids the sun’s glare with large overhangs, significantly cutting down energy-intensive cooling needs. It seamlessly integrates next-gen storage batteries, embraces innovative fuel cell technology, and pioneers a trailblazing propulsion system.

Interestingly, the Dunes design circumvents the need for a central engine room, making way for the strategic placement of six guest staterooms near primary guest spaces.

A discrete bridge facilitates uninterrupted panoramic vistas, bestowing the owner and guests with unbeatable viewing luxury.

Furthermore, the revolutionary walk-around decks spring up surprises, like hidden pools and discreet bow seating. In a remarkable departure from traditional teak decks, Feadship introduces an ethereal deck made of glass or stone chips enveloped in a clear polyurethane resin.

Future-forward, yet rooted in reality, Feadship, as evidence, are introducing low-impact steel hulls and a mix of aluminium and wood for the superstructure – each chosen for their reduced carbon footprint.

The unveiling of Dunes has indeed become the talk of the town, thanks to its harmonious blend of luxury and sustainability.

HH Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Mr Imran Khwaja and Mr Mansoor at the unveiling ceremony of the ICC World Cup Trophy Tour

ohammad Mansoor

is a disruptor and a dreamer - constantly doing things considered nearly impossible. He is the founder and Chairman of the Saara Group which has a host of businesses including oil and gas, IT, and electric vehicles among many others. He is also on the board of several organisations and has been awarded for his business acumen - locally as well as across the world.

Sports and its administration is one of his deepest passions. A well-known and respected figure in global cricket administration circles, as the Chairman of the Advisory Board of Bahrain Cricket Federation, he not only brought the ICC Men’s World Cup Trophy Tour to Bahrain but created a massive rally and road show that made the world sit up and take notice of the beauty, heritage and potential of Bahrain. The videos posted of the event on the International Cricket Council’s social media pages had millions of views from cricket lovers across the globe giving Bahrain a glowing reputation in the cricketing world.

Promotion of Bahrain and on the world stage has been paramount to Mr Mansoor, as the Chairman of Life N Style Magazine, he has ensured that Bahrain’s leading figures and brands have found a place of prominence in the magazine’s print and digital issues.

We spoke to Mr Mansoor to talk about the year in retrospect to find out more about his success and his plans for the future.

This year has been extraordinary for you - as the Chairman of the Advisory Board of Bahrain Cricket Federation, you were instrumental in bringing the World Cup Trophy to Bahrain for a massive roadshow and rally - what was the experience like?

Mr Mohammad Mansoor: Did you know that cricket has been played in Bahrain since the early 20th century? The earliest instance of cricket was recorded in 1932 when a match was played between Royal British Airforce and Royal British Navy. In 1935, the Awali Cricket Club was formed by the then British Oil Company which is now BAPCO – Bahrain Petroleum Company, so cricket isn’t new for Bahrain.

Cricket is a part of my DNA, and I have been actively involved in its promotion in Bahrain since 2018. I wanted to elevate the quality of cricket being played in Bahrain so I approached KHK Sports and we did Bahrain Premier League in collaboration with them on the same lines as the popular Indian Premier League with player auctions and the involvement of several notable businessmen as owners of teams and His Highness Shaikh Khaled bin Hamad Al Khalifa, First Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, Chairman of the General Sports Authority and President of Bahrain Olympic Committee was the Chief Guest who awarded the winners with the trophy.

I want to thank Mr Mohammad Shahid who implemented HH Shaikh Khalid’s ideas and incorporated cricket into the KHK Sports vision.

His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa formed a new board - the Bahrain Cricket Federation and implemented a new strategy to strengthen Bahrain cricket and give it exposure on a global scale. As a part of this strategy, I had a productive meeting with President of the Asian Cricket Council, Mr Jay Shah, during which I expressed our interest in hosting the ACC board meeting in Bahrain, and I was thrilled to receive his positive response and the opportunity to welcome cricket administrators of this caliber to our country for the first time. This significant milestone has undoubtedly enhanced Bahrain’s profile in the cricketing world.

Under HH Shaikh Khalid’s patronage, our teams - Men’s, Women’s and U-19 have participated in several tournaments abroad from UAE, Oman to Malaysia, Thailand and Nepal and

have defeated several higher-ranking teams.

Bahrain’s very first women’s cricket team holds five world records, an incredible feat! Our efforts in promoting women’s cricket were recognised by the ICC and we won the 100% Cricket Female Cricket Initiative last year.

Bringing the ICC Men’s Trophy tour to Bahrain seemed farfetched at one point but I was fortunate to have met some really supportive people in the ICC management - ICC President Greg Barclay, CEO Geoff Allardice and ICC Deputy Chairman Imran Khwaja as well as Mr Aminul Islam and Mr Iqbal Sikander who whole-heartedly supported us. In fact, ICC appreciated Bahrain as one of the best trophy tours in this World Cup.

Our mega rally showcased the best of Bahrain’s history, culture, and heritage and brought together two big sportsFormula One and Cricket. Over 10,000 people participated in the event as the trophy made the round of Bahrain’s iconic landmarks and finally did a lap of the majestic Bahrain International Circuit in Sakhir.

I am very thankful to HH Shaikh Khaled bin Hamad Al Khalifa for his presence at the unveiling ceremony. And to Dr Nasser Al Qaedi, CEO, Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority, whose whole-hearted support made the events and shoots at heritage sites possible.

His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa and dignitaries at the unveiling ceremony of the ICC World Cup Trophy Tour

I also want to thank BIC CEO, Shaikh Salman bin Isa Al Khalifa who threw open the doors of the Bahrain International Circuit to us and gave every assistance to make the event at the circuit a grand success. I would also like to acknowledge the immense support we received from Dr. Abdulrahman Sadiq Askar, CEO, General Sports Authority, Mr Faris Al Kooheji, Secretary General, Bahrain Olympic Committee, various ministries and authorities, our sponsors, the tireless work of the BCF team and volunteers as well as the cricket fans who were at the centre of this trophy tour.

As the Chairman of Life N Style Magazine, this is your fourth issue- as a quarterly, it means you have completed a year in the luxury lifestyle publication space. The videos, the digital synergies and the high-profile interviews - it has been quite eventful - can you please share your plans for the future?

I am incredibly proud of what we have accomplished in our first year. We have published four issues that have been wellreceived by our readers and advertisers alike. We have also produced engaging videos, leveraged digital synergies, and secured high-profile interviews.

For the future, we have ambitious plans to grow Life N Style Magazine into the leading luxury lifestyle publication in the world. We will continue to publish high-quality content that is informative, inspiring, and entertaining. We will also expand our digital and geographic reach: we currently publish in Bahrain but plan to have editions out of the other GCC countries from Saudi Arabia to UAE allowing us to reach a larger audience.

We want to create more interactive content that allows our readers to interact with us and with each other - these will include more live events.

We are still mulling over the launch of a luxury e-commerce platform as well as an exclusive members-only club which provides special access to our subscribers.

I am confident that Life N Style Magazine is well-positioned for success in the years to come. We have a strong team, a loyal readership, and a clear vision for the future. I am excited to see what we can accomplish together.

In addition to the above, I would also like to add that we are committed to using our platform to promote diversity, inclusion, and sustainability in the luxury lifestyle industry.

Dreams Take Flight

end Al Awadhi

Bahrain’s first female aircraft engineer, a senior airworthiness inspector, Chief Aviation Officer for Permits and Licensing, a lifestyle influencer, and a motivational speaker.

Hend Al Awadhi is a multi-faceted personality, who has broken many barriers in her life and her story is one of perseverance and determination. Life N Style caught up with Hend to find out more about the woman who has inspired a generation of women to follow their dreams.

Hend, You broke the glass ceiling as the first Bahraini female aircraft engineer, how did you feel on your first day at work? What was the inspiration for choosing this role?

Hend Al Awadhi: The first day at work was the culmination of a journey that started when I began my studies in the field of aviation. The day I signed off on my first aircraft was honestly terrifying! It was a huge responsibility for a 23-year-old and at the time there were a lot of people who doubted my capability of being an aircraft engineer. It was definitely a day to remember as I was not only the first female aircraft engineer but also the youngest in the history of Gulf Air. So I was scared but happy and extremely proud. I got into aviation, not with the aim of being the first or breaking any barriers but simply for the thrill of the adventure. I’m a very curious person and I really like to explore. And I’ve been inspired by stories of people who achieved the impossible and that motivates me.

Aviation is a very male-dominated field: what barriers did you face, as a woman, in becoming successful in your field?

I have personally never seen the field as male-dominated nor did I feel the need to prove anything to anyone. I lived in the moment and had small goals for myself - successfully completing a task, finishing the day’s work, and making sure that aircrafts departed and returned back safely.

I would attribute a large part of my success to concentrating on the work and not trying to prove anything to anyone. I believe the key is not to focus on the external noises, but instead on how to accomplish your goals. People will always have their opinions and that has nothing to do with you

Tell us about your love for aircrafts and aviation and what made you realise that this was your path in life?

As a child I was always travelling to faraway lands with my parents - that is really what ignited my love for aviation and travelling became my passion.

I always knew that I wanted a job which involved a lot of travelling. And aviation fit the bill. At the time the only job I knew about in the field was being a pilot. But as I grew older I explored my options - that is when I found out about aircraft engineering and because I love fixing things, I realised that I had found the perfect path for myself.

You were also a part of a reality show involving NASA and the BBC: what was that experience like?

When I got the call to be on the show, I thought it was a prank being played by someone who knows me well enough to know about my obsession with space.

But it actually turned out to be true.

It was a collaboration between NASA, the BBC and Dubai TV. A reality show where they trained you to be an astronaut and the eventual prize was the opportunity for a spacewalk. They chose 12 qualified Arab contestants from hundreds of hopefuls based in their aptitude and qualifications and I was grateful to be one of them.

As a young girl, I had always dreamed of going to the moon. It was like a part of my biggest dream being fulfilled. I’m so thankful for this experience. It just proved that when you really believe in something, it actually can happen.

You are also a lifestyle and travel influencer, presumably, the travel part comes from being in the aviation industry, how did the lifestyle part come about and what was that journey like?

It was coincidental. I did not plan on making social media a big part of my life or becoming a public figure. When Snapchat and Instagram were new, my work was very hectic as I was working 12-hour shifts so I used to post as a normal user sharing my experiences. I ended up building a community of women who also had similar experiences at work and were doing long shifts (like doctors and nurses) and we became each others’ virtual support system.

With fashion and lifestyle, these were things I enjoyed and I started talking about them for fun and the response was good and the community continued to grow.

I believe my goal is bigger than just looking out for myself. It is about encouraging and motivating other women to do what they really want to do. And I have reached a point where I have a platform with hundreds of thousands of men and women with whom I can share my experiences and advice. I’m very grateful and thankful that people consider me inspirational. I believe that if I can change the life of one person, then my mission and life are complete.

You wear so many hats, how do you juggle so many roles? How do you manage the work-life balance?

Juggling many roles, I think, is an intrinsic part of every woman’s life. As a mother, wife, colleague, boss, sisteryou mean different things to different people. So you must manage your time wisely and know exactly where you’re putting your effort, then you can actually balance all parts of your life

Your journey is very inspirational to young women - what is one tip that has helped you achieve all this and that you would want to share with girls across the world?

I usually end every conversation and every interview by saying that it’s your life, and your choices, so choose wisely. Choose, and let your choices be aligned with your values. So when you know your values, you will know what’s your purpose in life. So make sure that every decision you make in life is aligned with this so you are at peace with yourself. And once you are at peace with yourself, you will be happy. And once you are happy, that will radiate to everyone around you.

Women Who Inspire

Like a delicate flower blooming in the midst of adversity, the Bahraini woman has overcome numerous challenges to emerge as a beacon of hope and inspiration for her community. She has shattered glass ceilings, broken down barriers, and carved a niche for herself in every sphere of life.

From the boardrooms to classrooms, the parliament and operating theatres, these women have proven their mettle time and again.

On the 15th anniversary of the establishment of the Bahraini Women’s day we pay homage to women - citizens and residents of Bahrain - who have made significant contributions to all aspects of society, from business and government to diplomacy and healthcare. Life N Style spoke to ten inspiring women who are role models for young girls and women everywhere. They are the living embodiment of the Bahraini spirit, which is characterised by strength, courage, and compassion.

Life N Style honours their contributions to society and hopes we can find inspiration from their words and learn from their experiences.

Member of the Council of Representatives

In the realm of parliamentary brilliance, where voices of wisdom echo and the echoes of change reverberate, stands a woman of remarkable calibre, a champion of equity and progress: Member of the Council of Representatives - Basema AbdulKarim Mubarak.

In the 2022 parliamentary elections, she shattered the glass ceiling and emerged victorious in the eleventh district of the Northern Governorate as the first woman to win a seat in the Council of Representatives in Hamad Town, besting eight male candidates.

Reflecting on your journey as a woman leader, what are some key lessons you have learned along the way?

Through my journey, I learned to remain calm and make wise decisions. This requires digging deeper to balance the necessary elements and achieve effective and efficient outcomes.

Be humble and never judge a book by its cover, especially when it comes to people.

Finally, I always remember to appreciate my failures before my successes, for they have taught me valuable lessons and helped me grow.

What are some of the biggest challenges facing women in the workplace today, and how do you see us overcoming them?

In the workplace, women face many challenges, one of which has been a global and historical constant: the choice between career and family. Despite their high degrees and skills, women are often held back by the expectations of their traditional roles.

As a result, many women prevent themselves from progressing in the workplace, fearing the challenge of proving themselves. Not all women accept this challenge, however, and those who do must possess a deep well of strength.

We should celebrate and share the leadership and success of women, for this will inspire other women and young girls to strive for a bright future.

What inspires you to continue breaking barriers and achieving new heights in your career?

Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, President of the Supreme Council for Women, is a beacon of inspiration to me. Her unwavering support for Bahraini women is evident in the countless ways she empowers them. I am grateful to witness firsthand the impact of her work.

My passion for diplomacy and politics allows me to serve my country and its citizens and that enables me to see the difference I can make. This inspires me to give back and make a positive impact.

What message of hope and empowerment would you like to share with young girls and women around the world on this Bahraini Women’s Day?

I am eager to share my experience with others. My victory over eight male candidates, an unprecedented feat, is a testament to the power of patience, hard work, and intelligence.

To all women, I say this: you are the architects of your own destiny. Remember you hold the power to shape the future of our society.

Chargé D’affaires at the Embassy of Bahrain to Malaysia

Maram Al Salah, a career diplomat of ethereal grace, has dedicated her life to fostering Bahrain’s ties with foreign nations.

Since her illustrious appointment as Chargé D’affaires at the Embassy of Bahrain to Malaysia in 2019, she has consistently proven her astute diplomatic acumen. Her prior posting as Deputy Ambassador to India, stationed in New Delhi, further testifies to the trust and confidence that Bahrain’s leadership reposes in her abilities.

In 2006, Maram embarked on her distinguished diplomatic journey, joining the Bahrain Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In 2010, she represented Bahrain at the United Nations General Assembly in New York, delivering a powerful speech at the Third Committee on Human Rights, Empowerment, Women, and Child Rights.

A quiet philanthropist, she enjoys reading, arts, and culture, and oriental music.

Reflecting on your journey as a woman leader, what are some key lessons you have learned along the way?

A woman’s mind is a treasure trove of wisdom, ever-evolving and expanding. The seeds of knowledge, once planted, take root and flourish, yielding a bountiful harvest of insights and understanding.

A woman who learns is a woman who grows. She transcends the limitations of her circumstances, soaring on the wings of knowledge to new heights of achievement.

What inspires you to continue breaking barriers and achieving new heights in your career?

I am driven by the desire to serve my country through my career and knowledge and to play my part in building a better future for all Bahraini citizens. I am inspired by the resilience and determination of the Bahraini spirit, which has overcome countless challenges to emerge stronger and more united.

What message of hope and empowerment would you like to share with young girls and women around the world on Bahraini Women’s Day?

Do not let quick decisions made in the heat of the moment cloud your judgment. Be patient, my dear sister, and trust in the wisdom of your heart.

May the gentle breeze of patience whisper in your ear, guiding you through the vicissitudes of life.

Like the mighty falcon, soar high above the mundane, with wings outstretched to embrace the endless possibilities that await.

CEO, Export Bahrain

Safa Sharif A Khaliq began her journey 18 years ago at the bottom rung and has carved out a niche for herself across various sectors. Prior to her role in Export Bahrain, Safa held other leadership positions in Tamkeen and managed the planning areas of two core financial institutions in the Kingdom heading their corporate strategy, product development, research, impact assessment and project management portfolio. She is also a proud mum of three beautiful children.

Reflecting on your journey as a woman leader, what are some key lessons you have learned along the way?

My journey has been a remarkable and transformative one. One key lesson is the significance of resilience and perseverance. In a world where challenges and setbacks are inevitable, it’s the determination to overcome them that sets one apart. I’ve also come to appreciate the power of adaptability.

Navigating diverse sectors has taught me to be flexible and open to change, a trait crucial in today’s fast-paced world. Furthermore, I’ve learned that leadership is about empowering others and it has reinforced the belief that gender should never be a barrier to success.

What are some of the biggest challenges facing women in the workplace today, and how do you see us overcoming them?

Beyond the well-documented issues of pay inequality and gender disparities in leadership roles- I think it depends on the organisation you’re in and you as an individual.

I also believe that these issues affect men and women both, however, we have to work harder to prove ourselves.

Organisations genuinely understand how to recognise individuals through their contribution and their set of values.

I feel Export Bahrain is a standout example of progress, where the predominantly male-dominated field of international trade and export is counterbalanced by a team that includes 70% women, some of whom are mothers.

What inspires you to continue breaking barriers and achieving new heights in your career?

The unwavering support of my team, the understanding and encouragement from my family and my kids (especially my daughters Yara and Nadera for whom I want to be the perfect role model), and Export Bahrain itself are inspirational.

Witnessing firsthand how our efforts support businesses, drive growth, and foster success is immensely gratifying. Likewise, there is also a fear of failure, of wasting an opportunity.

What message of hope and empowerment would you like to share with young girls and women around the world on this Bahraini Women’s Day?

Remember that your dreams, your ambitions, and your voice matter. Embrace your uniqueness, for it’s your individuality that holds immense power.

Don’t be disheartened by challenges or setbacks; view them as opportunities to learn and grow. Support each other, build networks, and break down barriers together. Happy Bahraini Women’s Day!

Co-Founder & President of the Bahrain Businesswomen’s Society

She has a dynamic and vibrant presence and radiates positivity. It is unlikely that there would be a businesswoman in Bahrain who doesn’t know of Ahlam Janahi. As the President of the Bahrain Businesswomen’s Society, founded in 2000, the community is a platform focused on empowering female entrepreneurs within Bahrain. With four decades of business experience, Ahlam has been on the board of several important institutions, won many awards along the way and is wellknown for her philanthropy.

Reflecting on your journey as a woman leader, what are some key lessons you have learned along the way?

Although the road to victory is difficult or excruciating, the valuable lessons learned along the way make winning much sweeter.

Before making a decision, it is important to weigh the risks and consider all possible scenarios. Controlling your spending and avoiding waste can help you to save money that can be used to invest in the future. This will give you a financial foundation that you can rely on, even if you face challenges down the road.

It is important to be decisive and act quickly, especially when making important decisions. This will help you to avoid secondguessing yourself and making mistakes. It is also important to say no when necessary, even if it is difficult.

What are some of the biggest challenges facing women in the workplace today, and how do you see us overcoming them?

Bahraini women are a force to be reckoned with in the workplace, entrepreneurship, and the political landscape. They are breaking down barriers and achieving great things, despite the challenges they face.

Bahraini women make up 50% of the workforce in Bahrain, and they are excelling in a wide range of fields. They are doctors,

lawyers, engineers, scientists, and entrepreneurs. They are holding senior positions in both the public and private sectors, and they are making significant contributions to Bahrain’s economy.

It is due to the support of our leaders, including the strategies of Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, President of the Supreme Council for Women, that we can see these changes in Bahrain.

We are proud that some BBS Members have reached decisionmaking positions through royal appointment by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa in bodies such as the Shura Council, the Municipal Council, and the Supreme Council for Women Higher Council.

What inspires you to continue breaking barriers and achieving new heights in your career?

Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka Bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa has been a source of great inspiration for me. As the President of the Supreme Council for Women she has always empowered Bahraini women.

Just one small example is ‘The Award of Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka Bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa for Bahraini Women Advancement’ which acknowledges the women’s efforts in trying to excel in their field.

What message of hope and empowerment would you like to share with young girls and women around the world on Bahraini Women’s Day?

I would tell the younger entrepreneurs not to hesitate to voice their opinions, have the courage of conviction, and carry on despite opposition from others. I believe success comes from an immense amount of self-belief and that needs to be inculcated from a very young age.

Founder

of The Child & Family Foundation Center & Afkarech Female Network

Dr Mariam Alammadi is a young compassionate psychologist whose goal is to break the stigma of mental health in the MENA region, having worked in the sector for the last thirteen years. She is the founder of the award-winning practice The Child & Family Foundation Center and is the first director of the Bahrain Chapter of the Middle Eastern Psychological Association.

She is also the founder of the Afkarech Female Network which provides opportunities for women to network and support each other in their personal and professional growth.

Mariam has been recognised as one of the most influential women in Bahrain by several organisations and has won numerous awards.

Reflecting on your journey as a woman leader, what are some key lessons you have learned along the way?

One of the key lessons I have learned as a woman leader is the importance of leading authentically. As a psychologist, empathy comes naturally to me, but it should never be mistaken for weakness.

Kindness, understanding, and respect are powerful tools that can create a positive impact in the workplace and in life generally. Instead of measuring my success as a leader by accolades, I evaluate myself based on how I treat people. Building genuine connections and fostering a supportive environment are the true markers of effective leadership. I truly hope this is something I have achieved.

What are some of the biggest challenges facing women in the workplace today, and how do you see us overcoming them?

I believe many women suffer in silence and hesitate to advocate for themselves in the workplace. It is crucial for women to recognise the importance of their voices and the impact they can make.

What inspires you to continue breaking barriers and achieving new heights in your career?

When I began studying psychology, many family members in Bahrain doubted my ability to find a job in this field in the Middle East. However, I am proud to say that their predictions have been proven wrong.

Over the past decade, I have witnessed a significant shift in the perception of mental health and the willingness to seek treat ment.

While there is still much progress to be made, I am optimistic about the future.

What message of hope and empowerment would you like to share with young girls and women around the world on Bahraini Women’s Day?

It is crucial for women, especially young girls, to define success on their terms. I want them to believe that there are no limits to what they can achieve. With perseverance, determination, assertiveness and resilience there is nothing that they cannot achieve.

Group CEO, American Mission Hospital

From a small village in the Welsh valleys of the United Kingdom, Julia started her career in London but has worked in the USA as well. Her training with the British Royal Air Force, in flight physiology, led her next to Saudi Arabia. Here, she set up the first neonatal/pediatric flight team in Saudi Aramco. Alongside her work, she also completed her MBA in healthcare management from Harvard Business School. In 2011, she moved to Bahrain and has been in the hospital’s leadership ever since.

From bolstering medical technology and clinical services in Manama to overseeing the opening of new branches in Amwaj, Riffa, expansion in Saar, design and launch of the new King Hamad American Mission Hospital, Julia is a trailblazer through and through.

Reflecting on your journey as a woman leader, what are some key lessons you have learned along the way?

I’d say the main lesson I’ve learned is never to let anything or anybody tell you that you can’t achieve something. If it’s your dream and something that you’re very passionate aboutfollow your dreams.

You have to be very confident in your abilities. You may face doubts and challenges but if you believe in yourself, and in your ability to succeed, you will surely succeed.

What are some of the biggest challenges facing women in the workplace today, and how do you see us overcoming them?

I believe that the challenges faced by women in leadership positions 10-20 years ago are no longer as prevalent. This is because many key executive positions are now held by women. Change has happened, and it has been for the better. I believe that there is now much more equality in the workplace.

What inspires you to continue breaking barriers and achieving new heights in your career?

For me, the day I stop being inspired and looking for new challenges is the day my career is over. You’re always writing the next chapter of your book. The day you stop writing is the day your book is finished.

What message of hope and empowerment would you like to share with young girls and women around the world on this International Women’s Day?

Don’t ever let anyone tell you that you can’t achieve your dreams. Growing up in a small town, someone told me to stay put, that I wasn’t meant for bigger things. But I refused to listen and was determined to make my dreams a reality.

When I was thinking of moving to London to pursue my training, someone told me, “No, you’re born, you marry, you die here.” Those words motivated me to prove them wrong.

And so I did. I moved to London, I trained hard, and I eventually achieved my dreams. I became a successful leader in my field, and I’ve been able to travel the world and inspire others to follow their dreams as well.

Director of Public Relations and Communications at Four Seasons Hotel Bahrain Bay

Tuğçe’s was passionate about hospitality from an early age, an interest nurtured by her family’s involvement in the industry. After earning a degree in Tourism Administration from the prestigious Bogazici University in Istanbul, she embarked on a successful career in hospitality, gaining a wealth of experience through launching and reopening international luxury hotels in her home town. A skilled storyteller, she relishes the opportunity to reflect her creativity in her work.

Reflecting on your journey as a woman leader, what are some key lessons you have learned along the way?

Your attitude and manners are your most valuable assets, that matter just as much as your expertise. Skills and knowledge can be learned; attitude is the first thing that defines a person. I believe that kindness, honesty, and hard work always pay off.

Success is truly a team effort; never a one-person show. So recognise your peers and team members, give them credit for their successes. Open and honest communication elevates everyone.

What are some of the biggest challenges facing women in the workplace today, and how do you see us overcoming them?

This is a deep subject; women worldwide still face barriers regarding equal opportunities and inclusion in decisionmaking processes. Women need to be proactive, inspire, and encourage each other, celebrate and recognise each other’s achievements and make opinions heard.

Companies have a great responsibility to provide equal rights and opportunities. I consider myself very lucky because I work

for Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts, where women are offered equal opportunities, encouraged to take up leadership roles, and our successes are celebrated.

What inspires you to continue breaking barriers and achieving new heights in your career?

The stories of women who challenge and overcome obstacles inspire me. Zumran Omur, a woman from a village in Kars, Turkey, a region known for its high-quality cheese, is one such example. Jewels of the World: 2023’s Most Luxurious Hotels

Like sparkling jewels scattered across the globe, the world’s best hotels offer a dazzling display of luxury, opulence, and sophistication. From the iconic landmarks of Europe to the exotic retreats of Asia and beyond, these hotels are a testament to the finest in hospitality, offering guests an unforgettable experience.

This year for the first time the ‘World’s 50 Best Hotels’ were announced by the 50 Best organisation which is well known for its expert-curated lists of restaurants and bars industry.

We have carefully selected a few of these most stunning hotels - beacons of indulgence - to showcase to you. Behold their splendour, and marvel at the exquisite experiences that await within their walls.

Passalacqua, Moltrasio, Italy

Nestled on the shores of Lake Como, lies Passalacqua, a magical oasis of luxury and serenity. It has the distinction of being named ‘The Best Hotel in the World’. This historic estate, dating back to the 18th century, was built on land once owned by Pope Innocent XI, and has been transformed into a boutique hotel with just 24 suites that embody the essence of Italian elegance and hospitality.

The centrepiece of the estate is the twelve-suite villa in pale amber, carved ceilings, rare and precious floors, exquisite stucco, and priceless art.

Guests are drawn to the swimming terrace, with its JJ Martindesigned flouncy Rajasthani-esque floral parasols, which offer a playful contrast to the villa’s interiors. Seven acres of manicured terraced perfection, filled with olive groves, mimosa trees, David Austin roses, cascade from the villa to the shimmering cyan lake.

The opulence of the decoration and artisanship is breathtaking, making this an ideal vacation spot for the discerning traveller.

One And Only, Mexico

Hidden away in the lush jungles of Mexico’s Riviera Nayarit lies a paradise on Earth: One&Only Mandarina, which is ranked 8th on the list.

This luxurious beachfront resort is nestled in the lush tropical rainforests of Sierra de Vallejo reserve. Set across 88 acres, the resort features 105 private villas, each with its own plunge pool and intimate open-air living space. With floor-to-ceiling glass walls, indoor and al fresco seating and dining areas, and outdoor bathing facilities, the villas offer stunning views of the jungle or the ocean. Dedicated butlers provide around-theclock service, making this one of the most luxurious resorts in Mexico.

Guests can choose from a variety of villas, including Treetop Villas perched among the branches of the jungle canopy, Cliffside Villas with breathtaking ocean views, and Beachfront Villas with direct access to the sand and sea.

There are also six treatment rooms built within a volcanic rock garden, creating a truly unique and immersive spa experience. For those looking for a more active experience, the resort offers a variety of activities, including hiking, biking, swimming, and golf. There is also an open-to-guests polo field, where guests can enjoy a game of polo or simply watch from the sidelines.

One&Only Mandarina Mexico is also known for its exceptional dining scene. The resort’s signature restaurant, Carao, is helmed by renowned chef Enrique Olvera, whose Pujol restaurant in Mexico City is ranked No. 9 in The World’s 50 Best Restaurants. There is also the zero-waste Treetop Bar, where guests can enjoy cocktails and snacks while surrounded by the beauty of the jungle canopy.

This breathtaking resort is a celebration of nature, with its stunning architecture that blends seamlessly with the surrounding environment.

Singita Lebombo Lodge Kruger Park

Guided by a philosophy of sustainability and responsibility, Singita’s two lodges in Kruger National Park, Lebombo and Sweni, offer guests a luxurious ecotourism experience and have accordingly been awarded the ‘Best Eco Hotel’.

Fifteenth on the list with their stunning accommodations, world-class dining, and exceptional game viewing opportunities, Singita Lodges offer guests an unforgettable safari adventure.

Cantilevered over rocks high above the Sweni River, Singita Lebombo seamlessly blends into the rugged topography. This modern, design-forward lodge features 15 suites and one exclusive-hire villa.

After a day of game viewing, guests can relax and rejuvenate at the lodge’s gym, spa, wine cellar, swimming pool, or traditional boma. The boma dinner is a culinary tradition started by tribesmen in the 18th century, and features fresh, African menus served al fresco under the branches of a candelabra tree.

Soneva Fushi Maldives

Number Seven on the list is the Soneva Fushi and the added accolade of ‘Lost Explorer Best Beach Hotel Award’.

A verdant oasis nestled in the turquoise heart of the Maldives, Soneva Fushi is a symphony of natural beauty and luxurious indulgence. From the moment you arrive, your senses are captivated by the lush greenery, the pristine beaches, and the crystal-clear waters. Your villa, a private sanctuary perched among the palm trees, beckons you with its spacious interiors, exotic furnishings, and breathtaking views of the Indian Ocean.

On check-in, guests are given a bicycle for the duration of their stay, which is the singular mode of transport to access the facilities. Cycle between a Balinese-inspired spa, pool complex, tennis courts, library and a gym which is a cut above general five-star hotel standard.

Exquisite restaurants are dotted around the island; So Hands On by Akira is a nine-cover omakase sushi spot that rivals the best in the world. It also operates a regularly rotating guest chef series featuring 50 Best luminaries such as Tim Raue from Restaurant Tim among others.

Soneva is widely considered a trailblazer in luxury resort sustainability. It is a pioneer in marine conservation and coral rehabilitation.

Porsche Cayenne: Elegance Redefined

The Cayenne is effectively Porsche’s flagship (in terms of size if nothing else) and the original SUV that wants to be a sports car. It was almost alone on the market when it first came along, now even Ferrari and Lamborghini have SUVs. One of three Porsche’s sold these days is a Cayenne and in those terms, it’s definitely a phenomenon - a monstrously successful one at that.

And now Porsche presents the new Cayenne, the third generation, which it has fundamentally overhauled with comprehensive changes to the powertrain, chassis, design and equipment which have extended not only on-road and off-road performance but also luxurious everyday comfort.

Porsche has thoroughly refined its successful luxury SUV. The new Cayenne debuts with a highly digitalised display and control concept, new chassis technology and innovative high-tech features. “It’s one of the most extensive product upgrades in the history of Porsche,” says Michael Schätzle, Vice President of Product Line Cayenne.

Digitised and driver-focussed: Porsche Driver Experience

Porsche has integrated a completely revised display and control concept into the new Cayenne. Functions that the driver uses frequently are located directly on or immediately next to the steering wheel. A key feature of the new Porsche Driver Experience is the right balance between digital and analogue elements.

For the first time, the redesigned cockpit of the Cayenne includes a fully digital 12.6-inch instrument cluster with a socalled curved and free-standing design and variable display choices. An optimised head-up display is available as an option. A 10.9-inch display is now accessible for the first time for the passenger side. This enriches the front passenger’s driving experience by displaying performance data, providing separate access to the infotainment system controls. A special foil ensures that the driver cannot be distracted by the screen.

Refined design, innovative lighting technology

The new Cayenne has a particularly expressive appearance. A new front end combined with more strongly arched wings, a new bonnet and technically appealing headlights emphasise the vehicle’s width. Three-dimensionally designed tail lights,

uncluttered surfaces beneath and a new rear apron with an integrated number plate holder characterise the rear-end design of the new Cayenne.

Increased range between ride comfort and performance

Porsche now equips the Cayenne at the factory with a steel spring suspension including Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM). New shock absorbers with 2-valve technology and thus separate rebound and compression stages allow optimised performance in all driving situations. In particular, comfort at slow speeds, handling during dynamic cornering, and pitch and roll support have been noticeably improved.

The Cayenne’s always been a very good car, but it’s now more desirable than ever, especially as its restrained styling makes its elegance stand out.

It’s a top-of-the-class drive, it’s unusually competent offroad, the interior has remained on the right side of minimalism and the perceived quality is high. It’s a deeply complete car, the Cayenne – practical, potent and very clever. The 911 defines Porsche as a company, but it’s the Cayenne that is its backbone.

THE SPECS

Engine: 3-litre V6 turbo (standard model, E-hybrid); 4-litre V8 biturbo (S)

Luxury, performance, and sustainability

With a sleek and athletic coupe crossover utility vehicle (CUV) design, the GV60 is built on the dedicated EV platform known as the Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), marking the brand’s move toward electrification.

The GV60 features a Clamshell Hood, a single panel which combines the hood and fenders, creating a sleek impression. It also comes with a new wing emblem on the hood decorated with the Guilloché pattern often seen in luxury watches.

The interior takes on Genesis’ design ethos of the ‘Beauty of White Space’ while seeking to create a spacious and comfortable interior. The Crystal Sphere is one of the most compelling design elements of the GV60.

It is not only an aesthetic element of the interior design but it is also built to create an emotional connection between the driver and the vehicle.

Together with such elaborate design elements, GV60 is equipped with innovative technologies to provide a unique EV experience that connects the car to its driver.

Biometric Access

Face Connect is a feature that allows the car to recognise the driver’s face to lock or unlock its doors without a key. Drivers only need to touch the door handle and register their faces to the camera on the B-pillar. Face Connect adjusts settings based on the driver’s customised settings as the car recognises the driver.

Furthermore, the GV60’s Fingerprint Authentication System allows drivers to start and drive the car without a key. The combination of both technologies allows drivers to enjoy a brand-new experience of using only biometric information to drive their car.

Drift Mode

For drivers who are looking for a more dynamic experience, the GV60 also features a Drift Mode. It provides athletic driving by optimising the distribution of driving power and braking system. The GV60 also comes with a Boost Mode to give it a more dynamic and luxurious element. The mode immediately increases the performance of the vehicle’s maximum output, making the driving experience more dynamic.

Moreover, the Virtual Gear Shift (VGS) is a function that adjusts the torque of the motors and simultaneously generates a virtual engine sound, allowing the drivers to feel as if they are driving an ICE model. The cluster also expresses the virtual shift stage and RPM for an immersive driving experience.

The model further accentuates its cutting-edge look with digital side mirrors and electric door handles. The handles automatically pop up when the driver approaches the car with their smart key.

It features Road Active Noise Control (ANC-R), Preview Electronic Control Suspension (Pre-view ECS), Disconnector Actuator System (DAS), 400/800V multi-rapid charging system, and a V2L (Vehicle to Load) function.

As for safety features, a total of eight airbags, including the centre-side airbags in front seats, have been provided as standard options to ensure the safety of passengers in the event of an accident.

With the importance of the future of the EV era, the subtlety of the powertrain along with innovative technology will set the stage for drivers and passengers alike to interact with their environment in exciting new ways.

WEC Toyota Gazoo winners at WEC

Toyota Gazoo Racing concluded an exceptional 2023 FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) season in grand fashion, securing a thrilling one-two finish in the Bapco Energies 8 Hours of Bahrain at Bahrain International Circuit (BIC) in Sakhir.

The #8 Toyota crew of Sebastien Buemi, Brendon Hartley, and Ryo Hirakawa emerged victorious in their GR010 Hybrid, not only claiming the top spot at ‘The Home of Motorsport in the Middle East’ but also clinching the FIA Hypercar World Endurance Drivers’ Championship title. This triumph complemented their earlier FIA Hypercar World Endurance Manufacturers’ Championship win, completing a remarkable double for the team.

Their Toyota teammates, Kamui Kobayashi, Mike Conway, and Jose Maria Lopez, in their #7 Hybrid, demonstrated remarkable resilience, overcoming an opening-lap incident that saw them spin off the track at the very first corner. Their spirited recovery earned them a well-deserved second-place finish, though it wasn’t enough to secure them the Hypercar drivers’ title.

Toyota Gazoo Racing’s dominance continued throughout the race, marking their sixth victory in seven WEC races in 2023. This was the second triumph for the Buemi, Hartley, and Hirakawa trio, adding to their previous win in Portugal.

The Bapco Energies 8 Hours of Bahrain marked the 12th time the WEC has raced in Sakhir and the 5th time the event has taken place in its current eight-hour format.

Toyota Gazoo Racing’s remarkable victory is a testament to their unwavering dedication and exceptional performance throughout the 2023 WEC season. Their achievements have undoubtedly solidified their position as a leading force in endurance racing.

The winners in each category were duly recognised with their respective trophies during the podium ceremonies held after the exhilarating race. Bapco Energies Group Chief Executive Officer Mark J Thomas, BIC Chairman Arif Rahimi, and Bahrain Motor Federation Chief Marshal Hasan Ghuloom presented the trophies.

New Leadership

The Gulf Hotel has a new man in-charge – Hameed Ali. Recently promoted from within the ranks from Deputy General Manager to the prestigious position of General Manager, Mr Ali comes into the role with decades of experience not just with the property but in the hospitality industry across the region

Hameed’s journey with The Gulf Hotel Bahrain has been marked by dedication and a deep commitment to guest satisfaction. He has played a pivotal role in the success and reputation of the hotel. Life N Style decided to catch up with Mr Hameed Ali, General Manager of The Gulf Hotel Bahrain Convention and Spa to know more about his vision for the future of this iconic five-star hotel.

Congratulations Mr Ali, you have a distinguished career of over three decades and as you take the helm at The Gulf Hotel, what are your top priorities for the hotel in the next one year?

Mr Hameed Ali: One of my top priorities would be to consider ancillary services and amenities as a way to generate revenue as well as enhance guest experience.

I like to think about revenue in a more holistic way (as opposed to just room revenue) to pave the road to a better bottom line. We are committed to providing a pristine property, better communication, and most importantly ensuring a peaceful sleeping environment for them to feel safe, relaxed and comfortable throughout their stay.

The Gulf Hotel has some of the most exclusive F&B outlets from Fusions by Tala, Rasoi by Vineet, Sato among others. What are the plans to further elevate this sector at the hotel?

We will soon be introducing two new concepts: a ‘Jazz Bar’ and a ‘Tapas Bar’ within the property. We are also getting ready for a major renovation of our reception, lobby and our renowned Sato Restaurant that will further enhance the property. All of this is in the pipeline.

What are your thoughts on the importance of sustainability in the hospitality industry? How do you plan to make the hotel more sustainable and eco-friendly?

Sustainable tourism aims to create a positive relationship between communities and the people who visit them. This can lead to tons of great benefits. For locals and tourists alike, interaction through tourism fosters learning. Both get to learn about each other’s cultures, practices, and norms.

The Gulf Hotel is seriously committed to developing environmental and CSR initiatives that make us a greener hotel. We intend to develop advancements in energy-saving technologies, waste management and reduction strategies, sustainable sourcing and procurement, water conservation measures and providing our guests with eco-friendly amenities and services. Last but not least I intend to support millennials to become future leaders in hospitality.

Skin care treatments

Skincare, the multi-billion dollar market has new enhancements and promises of miracle treatments for everything from fine lines and wrinkles to rectifying sun damage and thinning hair. No experts ourselves, we enlisted the help of Dr Wanda Alemao, Consultant Dermatologist, American Mission Hospital, one of the island’s premier experts when it comes to everything dermatology.

“Aesthetic dermatology”, says Dr Wanda, “is all the rage. Treatments that are all about enhancing our natural beauty, sometimes called cosmetic treatments, they are non-invasive, painless and require no downtime. They come in many forms including injectable and topical treatments. Here are my top four treatments that are not just good for your skin but also for your self-esteem.”

Skin Boosters

These are like glass skin in a shot - a new class of injectables which hydrate, smooth, and firm your skin without adding fullness thus avoiding the very-obvious pillow-face that comes courtesy of Botox. And this is the reason they are gaining in popularity even with those under 30.

These are tiny ‘sprinklings’ of hyaluronic acid delivered into the top layers of the skin, intended to replenish hydration, improve light reflection, and smooth the canvas of the skin, without changing the structure of the face. For many this treatment represents a missing link to the fountain of youth. It

works on your skin from within- giving it more hydration and building up collagen. Some of the boosters have antioxidants like niacinamide and glutathione which work on pigmentation, giving you glowing skin. Niacinamide constricts the oil secretion making the skin look smoother and more radiant.

Vampire Facial

You probably conjure up images of Kim Kardashian when I say vampire facial. And perhaps your decision to get or avoid this treatment depends on your feelings about Kim K. However, it has been 10 years since she tried this facial and the fact that its popularity is yet to die down speaks volumes about its benefits.

To put it simply, a vampire facial stimulates collagen production in your skin through a combination of microneedling with platelet-rich plasma (PRP) from your own blood. Microneedling actually triggers your body’s wound-healing process to encourage new collagen production (aka the essence of good skin).

Basically, some blood is drawn from your arm, then spun with a centrifuge to separate the plasma and platelets that contain your own growth factors platelet-rich plasma (PRP). That PRP is then ‘microneedled’ into the skin and applied on top of the micro-wounds to help stimulate your collagen even more. This helps boost collagen production, brighten your overall

that actually work

skin tone, get rid of minor acne scars, fade hyperpigmentation, and tighten your skin.

PRP for hair loss

PRP for hair thinning and hair fall has proven to be quite effective. Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) when injected into the area to be treated, restores blood flow, new cell growth and tissue regeneration.

Platelets, when injected deep into the scalp, may stimulate a specialised population of cells named dermal papilla cells, which play an important role in hair growth. The plasma promotes growth, can kickstart follicular activity and result in new hair growth. However, it requires at least 2-3 sessions to see results. While this may not be as effective as hair weaving, it been proven to improve the quantity and quality of hair by increasing the thickness of the hair fibre.

At King Hamad American Mission Hospital, we perform the procedure after doing an initial blood test and according to the requirements, vitamins are prescribed. At least three sessions of PRP are advised, one month apart. At our hospital, we mix the PRP with biotin for optimum results. Most of my

patients love this treatment as they feel I have a very gentle touch while administering the treatment.

High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound

This treatment is done for skin tightening but is non-invasive and is as effective as a facelift. Targetted on the face and neck, you can see a marked 20 per cent improvement in the skin in these areas. It works by causing microthermal injuries and coagulation which boost collagen formation, making the skin tighter and firmer without going under the knife.
