Change up your low mood

Feeling blue? Here’s 3 activities you could do every day to help challenge your low mood.

Challenging Negative Thoughts: When we have negative thoughts, these can often be overwhelming. However, if we challenge these thoughts, we can often find that there is no truth to them. By challenging negative thoughts, we can replace our irrational negative thoughts with more rational alternatives. Pick a specific negative thought and ask yourself the following questions: Is there substantial evidence for my thought? Is there any evidence contrary to my thought? What would a friend think about this situation? If I look at the situation positively, how is it different? Will this matter a year from now? How about 5 years from now?

Gratitude Diary: Being thankful throughout the day can also help to boost our mood, as it can help us to re-orientate how we feel. Try setting some time during your day to ask yourself and reflect on the following question: What three things am I grateful for today?

Live Life On The Veg!

How about this for something different… The Vegetarian Special My Tasty Cookbook from Hacche is a fully customisable cookbook with a catalogue of over 300 recipes to choose from. All you have to do is pick your favourite foods and recipes. With 18 chapters available, you select six of your favourites from Quick Eats, 5 Items or Less, Meal Pastas and Bakes, Chocolate, One Pot Wonders, Recipes for Kids, Dinner Party, Cheese, Desserts and many more. Every recipe, every chapter and every ingredient are utilised, removing any components you dislike in the process, meaning the cookbook only has foods and recipes you like. It’s a great gift idea for vegetarians, especially as you can select a personalised cover and add the recipient’s name. It costs from £18.99 and can be purchased from MyTastyCookbook.com

3.

Behavioural Activation: When we are struggling with motivation, we can often find it difficult to do activities we would usually find easy to do. By using behavioural activation, we can try to raise our motivation levels. Create a schedule of activities that will lead you to having positive experiences during the day. Start with simple goals and work your way up to more challenging activities. If you’ve achieved your activities (even if it's only one), reward yourself with a self-care activity or an activity that you enjoy doing.
