A LUXURIOUS, FLORAL-INSPIRED CHICAGO STYLE SHOOT
STYLE SHOOT
The vision for this shoot was to create a luxurious and exotic scene in a modern Chicago venue. Despite a small snafu with the plants not surviving the Chicago temperatures in February—mended by a trip to a floral wholesaler—this vision came to life perfectly! When deciding the details for this day, the team based everything on what would make the florals pop the most. They settled on a simplistic yet modern design with numerous black and white elements that elevated the atmosphere of the scene. As for the florals themselves, they utilized anthurium, green hydrangea, calla lilies, draping amaranthus and ranunculus to fill the space. Each bloom has a unique design that can stand on its own, but when placed with the rest of the florals, it created a stunning array of textures and designs that make this shoot feel like it was set far from the windy city. We love how simple yet luxurious this shoot turned out with all the neutral, elegant details!
WHAT WE love
Even with the focus on the flowers, the bride and groom still shine in this shoot! The groom wore a classic black suit to match the elevated theme, while the bride stunned in a sleek satin gown. The bride kept her makeup natural, subtly accentuating her features and highlighting her beauty. She wanted to feel like an enhanced version of herself, and we think this overall look did just that!

Have you heard that saying “Love looks good on you?” Have you ever noticed that people in love not only seem happier, but they appear more attractive? The term most often used is “glowing.”
It’s common for friends and family to comment on your glowing face and the “stars” in your eyes right after you get engaged. According to science, these aren’t just things that people say. Studies indicate that emotions directly affect the body’s overall health. Overall health, of course, is directly linked to your physical appearance. This is all attributed to body chemicals like dopamine and serotonin.
Dopamine and serotonin are frequently called the “feel-good neurotransmitters.” Neurotransmitters control hormones. And what do you know? Hormones affect your skin. Dopamine is responsible for those bright, shining eyes as it is the brain’s pleasure chemical producing feelings like extreme happiness and excitement. Serotonin is the hormone that triggers your mood. Do you break out due to extreme stress? Your serotonin levels are probably suffering.
Post-engagement, you are most likely looking as great as you are feeling. Fast forward 10 to 12 months and every day life and wedding planning can get in the way of your glowing skin and star-filled eyes. Not to mention that the stress hormones can induce breakouts and sleepless nights which trigger bags under your eyes and result in pale skin.
Fortunately (and sometimes, unfortunately!) skin and beauty companies have made a fortune developing and marketing products and services that can combat and conquer most of this.
IT’S HIGHLY RECOMMENDED TO START YOUR BEAUTY ROUTINE AS SOON AS YOU'RE ENGAGED—OR AT LEAST SIX MONTHS BEFORE YOU SAY “I DO.”
HAIR IS THE MOST DIFFICULT PROCESS TO UNDO OR REPAIR BEFORE THE WEDDING DAY. It takes months to grow out so if you’re envisioning wearing your hair up, commit to growing it out as soon as possible. This is especially true if you have bangs—you may really love them now, but think of your wedding photos in years to come, especially if you’re having an outdoor wedding. Even if you are patiently waiting for it to grow, you should still schedule a few trims. Find a hair color and cut that you are comfortable with. Experimentation within a month of your wedding is a big no-no. Settle on a hair color you love at least two months before your wedding day and if necessary, get a touch up at least two weeks in advance. DEEP CONDITIONING TREATMENTS WILL LIMIT HAIR DAMAGE AND BREAKAGE, AND WILL ENSURE THAT YOUR HAIR IS LOOKING ITS BEST. You can opt for regular conditioning at home with a basic product, but feel free to splurge for at least one professional hair mask.
WHEN IT COMES TO YOUR FORMAL HAIRSTYLE FOR THE BIG DAY, START COLLECTING REALISTIC PHOTOS OF POTENTIAL POSSIBILITIES. Did you know there are tons of virtual hair websites available so you can upload your actual photo and try on tons of different colors, cuts and styles? This is a great way to envision what your hair will look like in your wedding photos. When you’ve narrowed it down to a few of your favorites, schedule a consultation with your stylist for his or her opinion on what would look and work best for you. Then set up a practice run.
FaceThere are so many do’s and don’ts when it comes to skin care. ESTABLISHING A HEALTHY, SUN-PROOF, ANTI-AGING, HYDRATING SKIN CARE ROUTINE IS NOT ONLY ESSENTIAL TO YOUR WEDDING DAY, BUT TO THE REST OF YOUR LIFE. If you are struggling with acne, scarring or skin conditions and you haven’t already, consult with a dermatologist or esthetician right away. Together, you can devise a plan of attack to get your skin where you want it to be—acne free, hydrated and youthful.
Regularly exfoliating dead skin allows new skin cells to emerge to the surface. HOWEVER, DON’T EXFOLIATE WITHIN A WEEK OF YOUR BIG DAY. Sometimes when the new skin cells emerge, so do all of the little ugly hidden things below the surface like pimples. Also, if you can find room in your budget, try to schedule a facial or two—but again, avoid having one too soon to your date. If you can’t afford a spa treatment, opt for the D.I.Y. spa products that you can do at home. Be sure to check reviews on each product so you know exactly what you’re getting before it’s applied to your sensitive skin.
AT THE VERY LEAST, INVEST IN A GENTLE FACE WASH, ONCE-A-WEEK EXFOLIATING WASH, RECOMMENDED MOISTURIZER AND UNDER-EYE CREAM TO ELIMINATE PUFFINESS AND DARK CIRCLES. And of course, hydrating yourself with plenty of H20 increases blood flow to the skin and purifies the body by removing toxins.
Nails
Chances are, you will be getting your nails professionally done before the big day. However, there are plenty of pre-wedding tasks you can do to grow your nails. VITAMINS SUCH AS BIOTIN BOOST CRITICAL NAIL PROTEIN WHICH IS THE BUILDING BLOCK OF NAILS. CUTICLE OIL MOISTURIZES NAILS AND THE SURROUNDING SKIN. YOU SHOULD ALSO MAKE SURE TO KEEP YOUR HANDS HYDRATED WITH LOTION, ESPECIALLY DURING THE COLD WINTER MONTHS WHEN SKIN TENDS TO CRACK. When it comes to choosing a nail polish color on your big day, try to avoid bold, loud colors. Your nails will be front and center in many photographs, including holding the flowers and exchanging the rings.
Waxing
Your eyes are the window to your soul. Your eyebrows are the frame. You can have the most beautiful eyes in the world, but if you don’t have shapely eyebrows, no one will notice. If you already have eyebrows that you love, keep doing what you’re doing. GET A WAX AND EYEBROW TRIM A WEEK BEFORE THE WEDDING, JUST IN CASE YOUR SKIN BREAKS OUT FROM THE WAX. If you don’t have shapely eyebrows, start eyebrow rehab this very minute. Unfortunately, this often requires leaving your brows to grow out wildly and untamed to allow your technician to start shaping them how you like.
As far as the other waxing areas go, like legs and the bikini line, most estheticians ask that you do not shave for approximately four weeks before your appointment. You may also want to make sure you do it once before your wedding wax because word on the street is that the first time is a little painful!
Tanning
While we’re on the subject of skin care, you are likely experiencing an overwhelming temptation to jump into a tanning bed. WITH RECENT SUNLESS TANNING OPTIONS AND LOTIONS ON THE MARKET, THERE REALLY IS NO EXCUSE TO PUT YOUR SKIN AT RISK FROM HARMFUL UV RAYS. Spray tanning and tanning lotions have progressed significantly since the days of cringe-worthy tans. If you use a tanning bed or even tan outdoors, your skin will obviously turn darker. But this darkened skin is a result of you altering your skin cells—they darken only when they are damaged or under attack. As you might imagine, this is not at all healthy for your skin. And since you’re already enduring much preparation to get your skin healthy, skip the tanning bed. IF YOU DO OPT FOR A SPRAY TAN, WE RECOMMEND GETTING A TRIAL SPRAY TAN A MONTH BEFORE THE WEDDING AND THEN A FINAL SPRAY THREE TO FOUR DAYS PRIOR TO THE WEDDING. Don’t forget to exfoliate your skin before applying a spray tan or tanning lotion— it removes the dead skin cells so your color is applied to fresh, new skin.
B od y
DIETING AND CARDIO SEEM TO BE THE POPULAR STRATEGIES. BUT DON’T RULE OUT STRENGTH TRAINING AS PART OF YOUR ROUTINE. STRENGTH TRAINING ALSO BURNS CALORIES AND TONES YOUR MUSCLES SIMULTANEOUSLY. The majority of women tend to notice their arms in photos, especially in wedding photos. Arm yourself (no pun intended!) with a pair of dumbbells and get those arms in tiptop shape! Most importantly, whether you’re hitting the gym or simply embracing your natural glow, the most important thing is feeling confident and comfortable in your own skin on your wedding day.

The Engagement Session of
BRITTNEY AND TYLER
In 2019, Brittney and Tyler attended the same HIIT workout class, and they would often hang out with mutual friends from the class. After they went out for music with those friends, Tyler asked Brittney out for a date and the rest is history! Tyler proposed while they were in Destin, Florida for Memorial Day weekend. They were out on a friend's boat waiting for fireworks when Tyler popped the question!
When it came time for Tyler to look for rings, he had a little help. "Tyler and I had gone to try on rings together to see what we liked. I ended up loving the classic round solitaire and Tyler got me exactly what I wanted. I love my ring so much!"
Since Brittney and Tyler met in Chicago and settled on a beach wedding, they wanted to combine the two for their engagement session. They decided on North Avenue Beach, so they could get the beautiful Chicago skyline in the background as well as utilize Lake Michigan.
As far as planning goes, Brittney and Tyler are hoping to get married by the end of 2025. They are still figuring out details and the location, but they know they want to get married by the water and, hopefully, in Destin, where they got engaged! "Wedding planning has been a bit overwhelming and stressful as I’m sure it is with most couples. We look forward to our day but are going to do it our way on our timeline," Brittney explains.

The Vision
We worked with Walden's in-house planner, Krystle Erler, for our Chicago spring/summer cover shoot, to transform the modern, industrial aesthetic of the venue into something soft, romantic and unforgettable. Inspired by Walden's natural elements—like exposed brick and warm wood tones—we layered in dreamy draping and lush florals to bring a timeless elegance to the space. The design centered around a rich, organic floral palette that's versatile for any season. Krystle shares, "In my heart, I pictured a dreamy, timeless celebration where nature and romance come together seamlessly in an urban setting."
The Venue
Walden is a venue that effortlessly blends modern industrial style with soft, romantic charm. With its high ceilings, exposed brick and beautiful natural light, the space offers a clean, versatile canvas that still feels warm and welcoming. For our shoot, its open layout and minimalist lines provided the perfect backdrop to layer in lush florals, flowing drapery and organic textures. Beyond its visual appeal, Walden’s commitment to sustainability and its in-house catering and bar services make it an ideal choice for couples looking to create an intentional, earth-inspired celebration. We also love the rooftop views of the Chicago skyline, perfect for these portraits captured by Trysh Jaeger Photography!
The Decor
The décor was all about softening Walden’s modern, industrial space with organic, romantic touches. MDM Entertainment’s layered draping added warmth and depth—opaque ivory panels framed the ceremony beautifully, while sheer champagne fabric softened the reception ceiling. Sculptural serpentine tables and bentwood chairs brought natural movement, paired with ivory Lamour linens and fern napkins to echo the floral palette. The result was a warm, soulful design that blended timeless elegance with nature-inspired textures!
The Florals
The florals in this shoot were designed to feel lush, natural and full of movement. Fleurish Atelier used a mix of amaranthus, lisianthus, hydrangea, calla lilies, roses and anthurium, layered with green blooms and foliage to create an organic, garden-grown vibe. Each flower added something unique—from the softness of lisianthus to the bold structure of anthurium—resulting in sculptural, romantic arrangements that felt truly alive. With artistry and intention, they transformed the space into something modern, soulful and deeply rooted in nature!
The Stationery
The stationery by Singsolo Designs was inspired by the overall vision of organic romance with a modern edge. The final design beautifully echoed the textures and tones used throughout the shoot, incorporating florals and softness in the invitations, table numbers, bar signage and more!
The Looks
The bridal look for this shoot came together flawlessly thanks to a dream team of vendors! We found the perfect wedding gowns at Diana’s Bridal Boutique, who helped us select three styles that captured our theme of romantic, earthy and modern. For the ceremony, our bride wore a strapless gown with a flowing train that beautifully mirrored the soft drapery. For cocktail hour, she changed into a sleek, highneck look, followed by a basque-waist gown with a square neckline for the reception. We love how different the three gowns were, while still complementing the romantic aesthetic! To complete the effortlessly elegant vibe, we went with soft, natural glam makeup and a loosely styled, romantic updo.

The Cake
The cake was a beautiful nod to timeless elegance, featuring a simple, classic design with a vintage Lambeth-style finish that added a hint of old-world charm. What truly elevated the look, though, was the way Fleurish Atelier styled the cake table—with fresh fruit and carefully placed florals that added texture, richness and a sense of natural abundance. The result was understated yet artful, perfectly aligned with the organic, romantic feel of the entire shoot!

THE EASIEST GUIDE TO
AFTER THE WEDDING changing your last name
Y our newlywed bliss can quickly come to an end when it comes time to endure the dreaded task of changing your last name. The legal process can often take the romance out of taking your significant other’s last name. If you get yourself organized with the proper documents, the process can be less strenuous, allowing you to continue to revel in your newlywed happiness.
1.
GET THE ORIGINAL MARRIAGE LICENSE FROM THE CLERK’S OFFICE
The original license should come from the clerk’s office where your license was filed. One should automatically be sent to you a couple weeks after the wedding. The original document should have a raised seal and your new last name. Also, it’s a good idea to request copies.
2. REQUEST A NEW SOCIAL SECURITY CARD
If you visit the Social Security Administration’s website, you can find an application for a change of name here. This is a free service. Print the application, fill it out, and include any required documents. You can either take your application to a nearby Social Security office or mail it in. You should receive your new card with your new last name in approximately 10 days.
3.
APPLY FOR A NEW LICENSE AT THE BMV
Getting a new license from the local Bureau of Motor Vehicles office requires a few documents, namely your old license, the original marriage license and your new Social Security card. Remember to change your address if you have moved after the wedding.
4.
CHANGE YOUR LAST NAME WITH YOUR HR DEPARTMENT
When your new Social Security card comes in the mail, meet with your HR manager at work to switch your name over. This includes payroll, 401k, your insurance benefits, stocks etc.
5.
UPDATE YOUR BANK ACCOUNT INFORMATION
The easiest way to do this is to visit your local branch in person. Take your new license, your marriage license and your new Social Security card, and ask for your name to be changed on your account. Request new checks, debit cards and credit cards with your new name.
6.
UPDATE YOUR LAST NAME ON OTHER MISCELLANEOUS ACCOUNTS
As time goes on, you will remember more accounts that your last name must be changed on. Remember to keep all of the necessary documents within reach to easily change your name.
