The Real Wedding of LAUREN & BRANDON KRIEGER
THEME:
New Year 's Eve Elegance
SEASON: VENUE:
Winter
Ritz Charles Carmel, IN
Though Lauren imagined a sophisticated black-tie wedding with gold accents, Brandon, an Indiana University grad, vetoed the “Purdue colors.” So, they decided on black-tie elegance with mixed metals instead. Since they were ringing in the New Year on their big day, they added plenty of sparkle to their opulent occasion, leaning into moody and romantic vibes for the décor. Because of their chosen date, they opted for a nontraditional timeline. The ceremony began at 7:30 and the celebration lasted until one in the morning, so they could ring in the New Year with all their friends and family! For a fun beginning to the year, Brandon and Lauren also sent their guests home with scratch-off lottery tickets instead of more traditional wedding favors.
WHAT WE love
Flora and Flame brought Lauren and Brandon's entire vision to life! While Lauren initially inquired with them regarding their phone booth rental, they ended up providing florals, candles, stationery, signage, custom-built pieces and more. “Flora and Flame Design was one of those meant-tobe moments. While scrolling through New Year’s Eve wedding ideas, I came across a beautiful wedding at Ritz Charles from the year before,” Lauren shares. “After probably hours of Instagram sleuthing, I found Beth and reached out to rent the booth. After just one video chat, I knew she got me. She understood my vision immediately, and her energy was everything we were looking for.”

This warming, brown hue—imbued with richness—offers a natural depth that feels both grounding and luxurious. Reminiscent of the delectable qualities of chocolate and coffee, Mocha Mousse creates a sensory experience that is as comforting as it is refined. From soft velvet bridesmaids’ dresses to candlelit receptions with shades of brown linens, this earthy tone evokes warmth, intimacy and a quiet kind of glamour. It speaks to our deep-rooted desire for comfort and connection, making it a perfect choice for a day centered on love, togetherness and shared joy. Whether used as a primary color or as an accent against creams, golds or blush tones, Mocha Mousse adds richness and soul to every wedding detail!

Patrice and Danielle’s wedding was a celebration rooted in intention, connection and personal meaning. With a vision of a full weekend of gathering and community, the venue’s multiple spaces allowed their guests to connect, relax and celebrate in style. Every vendor they chose was thoughtfully selected to reflect their love story and shared values. Their romantic and timeless aesthetic featured a soft palette of sage green, neutrals and warm wood tones to complement the natural surroundings. Standout moments like a private mothers’ toast and a high-energy t-shirt toss entrance brought emotion and joy in equal measure, making their wedding a beautifully personal, unforgettable weekend!
WHAT WE love
Staying true to their thoughtful, non-traditional approach, Patrice invited her closest friends to stand by her as her “Something New’d” instead of traditional bridesmaids—a heartfelt tribute to sisterhood. Each woman wore a unique shade of brown that reflected her individual style.

The Ultimate Beaut y Prep Chec k list
Have you heard that saying “Love looks good on you?” Have you ever noticed that people in love not only seem happier, but they appear more attractive? The term most often used is “glowing.” It’s common for friends and family to comment on your glowing face and the “stars” in your eyes right after you get engaged. According to science, these aren’t just things that people say. Studies indicate that emotions directly affect the body’s overall health. Overall health, of course, is directly linked to your physical appearance. This is all attributed to body chemicals like dopamine and serotonin.
Dopamine and serotonin are frequently called the “feel-good neurotransmitters.” Neurotransmitters control hormones. And what do you know? Hormones affect your skin. Dopamine is responsible for those bright, shining eyes as it is the brain’s pleasure chemical producing feelings like extreme happiness and excitement. Serotonin is the hormone that triggers your mood. Do you break out due to extreme stress? Your serotonin levels are probably suffering.
Post-engagement, you are most likely looking as great as you are feeling. Fast forward 10 to 12 months and every day life and wedding planning can get in the way of your glowing skin and star-filled eyes. Not to mention that the stress hormones can induce breakouts and sleepless nights which trigger bags under your eyes and result in pale skin.
Fortunately (and sometimes, unfortunately!) skin and beauty companies have made a fortune developing and marketing products and services that can combat and conquer most of this.
IT’S HIGHLY RECOMMENDED TO START YOUR BEAUTY ROUTINE AS SOON AS YOU'RE ENGAGED—OR AT LEAST SIX MONTHS BEFORE YOU SAY “I DO.”
HAIR IS THE MOST DIFFICULT PROCESS TO UNDO OR REPAIR BEFORE THE WEDDING DAY. It takes months to grow out so if you’re envisioning wearing your hair up, commit to growing it out as soon as possible. This is especially true if you have bangs—you may really love them now, but think of your wedding photos in years to come, especially if you’re having an outdoor wedding. Even if you are patiently waiting for it to grow, you should still schedule a few trims. Find a hair color and cut that you are comfortable with. Experimentation within a month of your wedding is a big no-no. Settle on a hair color you love at least two months before your wedding day and if necessary, get a touch up at least two weeks in advance. DEEP CONDITIONING TREATMENTS WILL LIMIT HAIR DAMAGE AND BREAKAGE, AND WILL ENSURE THAT YOUR HAIR IS LOOKING ITS BEST. You can opt for regular conditioning at home with a basic product, but feel free to splurge for at least one professional hair mask.
WHEN IT COMES TO YOUR FORMAL HAIRSTYLE FOR THE BIG DAY, START COLLECTING REALISTIC PHOTOS OF POTENTIAL POSSIBILITIES. Did you know there are tons of virtual hair websites available so you can upload your actual photo and try on tons of different colors, cuts and styles? This is a great way to envision what your hair will look like in your wedding photos. When you’ve narrowed it down to a few of your favorites, schedule a consultation with your stylist for his or her opinion on what would look and work best for you. Then set up a practice run.
Face
There are so many do’s and don’ts when it comes to skin care. ESTABLISHING A HEALTHY, SUN-PROOF, ANTI-AGING, HYDRATING SKIN CARE ROUTINE IS NOT ONLY ESSENTIAL TO YOUR WEDDING DAY, BUT TO THE REST OF YOUR LIFE. If you are struggling with acne, scarring or skin conditions and you haven’t already, consult with a dermatologist or esthetician right away. Together, you can devise a plan of attack to get your skin where you want it to be—acne free, hydrated and youthful.
Regularly exfoliating dead skin allows new skin cells to emerge to the surface. HOWEVER, DON’T EXFOLIATE WITHIN A WEEK OF YOUR BIG DAY. Sometimes when the new skin cells emerge, so do all of the little ugly hidden things below the surface like pimples. Also, if you can find room in your budget, try to schedule a facial or two—but again, avoid having one too soon to your date. If you can’t afford a spa treatment, opt for the D.I.Y. spa products that you can do at home. Be sure to check reviews on each product so you know exactly what you’re getting before it’s applied to your sensitive skin.
AT THE VERY LEAST, INVEST IN A GENTLE FACE WASH, ONCE-A-WEEK EXFOLIATING WASH, RECOMMENDED MOISTURIZER AND UNDER-EYE CREAM TO ELIMINATE PUFFINESS AND DARK CIRCLES. And of course, hydrating yourself with plenty of H20 increases blood flow to the skin and purifies the body by removing toxins.
Nails
Chances are, you will be getting your nails professionally done before the big day. However, there are plenty of pre-wedding tasks you can do to grow your nails. VITAMINS SUCH AS BIOTIN BOOST CRITICAL NAIL PROTEIN WHICH IS THE BUILDING BLOCK OF NAILS. CUTICLE OIL MOISTURIZES NAILS AND THE SURROUNDING SKIN. YOU SHOULD ALSO MAKE SURE TO KEEP YOUR HANDS HYDRATED WITH LOTION, ESPECIALLY DURING THE COLD WINTER MONTHS WHEN SKIN TENDS TO CRACK. When it comes to choosing a nail polish color on your big day, try to avoid bold, loud colors. Your nails will be front and center in many photographs, including holding the flowers and exchanging the rings.
Waxing
Your eyes are the window to your soul. Your eyebrows are the frame. You can have the most beautiful eyes in the world, but if you don’t have shapely eyebrows, no one will notice. If you already have eyebrows that you love, keep doing what you’re doing. GET A WAX AND EYEBROW TRIM A WEEK BEFORE THE WEDDING, JUST IN CASE YOUR SKIN BREAKS OUT FROM THE WAX. If you don’t have shapely eyebrows, start eyebrow rehab this very minute. Unfortunately, this often requires leaving your brows to grow out wildly and untamed to allow your technician to start shaping them how you like.
As far as the other waxing areas go, like legs and the bikini line, most estheticians ask that you do not shave for approximately four weeks before your appointment. You may also want to make sure you do it once before your wedding wax because word on the street is that the first time is a little painful!
Tanning
While we’re on the subject of skin care, you are likely experiencing an overwhelming temptation to jump into a tanning bed. WITH RECENT SUNLESS TANNING OPTIONS AND LOTIONS ON THE MARKET, THERE REALLY IS NO EXCUSE TO PUT YOUR SKIN AT RISK FROM HARMFUL UV RAYS. Spray tanning and tanning lotions have progressed significantly since the days of cringe-worthy tans. If you use a tanning bed or even tan outdoors, your skin will obviously turn darker. But this darkened skin is a result of you altering your skin cells—they darken only when they are damaged or under attack. As you might imagine, this is not at all healthy for your skin. And since you’re already enduring much preparation to get your skin healthy, skip the tanning bed. IF YOU DO OPT FOR A SPRAY TAN, WE RECOMMEND GETTING A TRIAL SPRAY TAN A MONTH BEFORE THE WEDDING AND THEN A FINAL SPRAY THREE TO FOUR DAYS PRIOR TO THE WEDDING. Don’t forget to exfoliate your skin before applying a spray tan or tanning lotion— it removes the dead skin cells so your color is applied to fresh, new skin.
Bod y
DIETING AND CARDIO SEEM TO BE THE POPULAR STRATEGIES. BUT DON’T RULE OUT STRENGTH TRAINING AS PART OF YOUR ROUTINE. STRENGTH TRAINING ALSO BURNS CALORIES AND TONES YOUR MUSCLES SIMULTANEOUSLY. The majority of women tend to notice their arms in photos, especially in wedding photos. Arm yourself (no pun intended!) with a pair of dumbbells and get those arms in tiptop shape! Most importantly, whether you’re hitting the gym or simply embracing your natural glow, the most important thing is feeling confident and comfortable in your own skin on your wedding day.

WEDDINGDAY’S EXCLUSIVE CENTRAL INDIANA COVER SHOOT
The Vision
For our spring/summer Central Indiana cover shoot, Jean Rivers and her team at Blue Llama Events set out to prove that black-tie elegance and industrial charm can coexist beautifully. This shoot was all about blending sophistication with edge—showcasing how a venue with exposed brick, steel beams and city views can still host an elevated, romantic affair. Through refined styling, luxe details and a modern aesthetic, Jean and our talented team brought this bold vision to life, capturing a striking contrast that felt both intentional and effortlessly chic!
The Venue
Located in the heart of downtown Indianapolis, The Heirloom offers the perfect blend of industrial charm and modern convenience. With striking views of Lucas Oil Stadium on the back patio, this urban venue features exposed architectural elements that give it a stylish, city-chic vibe. Inside, there’s plenty of room to host both ceremony and reception with ease, thanks to its spacious layout. Guests will appreciate the surprisingly easy parking—a rare find in the city—and the on-site catering team, Crystal Signature Events, is nothing short of exceptional! We also love the thoughtfully designed bridal suite and lounge areas that make getting ready feel just as special as the main event.
The Florals
For the florals, Jean wanted a balance of modern edge and refined elegance. Working with a classic palette of black, white and neutrals, JP Parker Flowers introduced bold texture and unexpected elements to bring the vision to life. Anemones added a clean, graphic touch, while thistle—carefully painted black— infused the arrangements with just the right amount of moody drama!
The Decor
This shoot proves that classic elegance can still feel fresh and bold with the right design details. The tablescape décor featured a timeless palette of neutral tones, elevated with striking pops of black for a sophisticated, modern edge. We especially love the modern table numbers and elevated glassware! One of our favorite design elements was the dramatic draping used in the ceremony area—a standout trend that added softness, movement and a sense of grandeur to the industrial space.
The Looks
Our bride wowed in a sleek, modern gown featuring a striking cat-eye neckline and off-the-shoulder sleeves—a fresh, edgy twist on timeless bridal style. For the reception look, a draped scarf added movement and sophistication. With the growing trend of wedding after-parties, it was important to Jean to showcase a second look, and the high-neck champagne dress did just that! Its sleek silhouette brought a sense of fun and celebration while still feeling elevated and fashion-forward. Ellie Rose Designs styled the bride’s soft, romantic curls in a relaxed updo for a natural glam look that paired perfectly with both dresses. Lizzy Faulk Makeup Artist completed the look with glowing skin, shimmery neutral eyeshadow and a polished finish!
The Stationery & Signage
The invitation suite was a stunning display of high-end elegance, featuring timeless design and classic calligraphy that set the tone for this sophisticated celebration. Every element felt intentional and refined, from the gold edges of the menus to the luxurious paper selection. One of our favorite details was the flowing scroll seating chart—a big current trend—that added a dramatic, romantic touch while showcasing the same beautiful calligraphy as the other paper products. It was the perfect blend of tradition and modern-day flair!
The Cake & Catering
Salt & Light Sweets wowed us with a stunning Italian millefoglie—a decadent layered dessert made with puff pastry, Italian custard and fresh fruit. Jean raves, "It was so amazing, I don't think the vendor team left any uneaten!"
Crystal Signature Events completed the reception with a champagne and fruit tower that added a touch of luxe flair, along with a mouthwatering spread that was as beautiful as it was flavorful.
