Relief Society Meetings?

Why do we have Quorum and Relief Society Meetings?

In these latter days, God has restored the priesthood and organized priesthood quorums and the Relief Society to help accomplish His work of salvation. Because of this, each Sunday when we gather in elders quorum and Relief Society meetings, we discuss and plan what we will do to help accomplish God’s work. To be effective, these meetings need to be more than classes. They are opportunities to counsel about the work of salvation, learn together about that work from the teachings of Church leaders, and plan and organize ourselves to accomplish it.

New Schedule for 2019 Beginning in January 2019, elders quorum and Relief Society meetings will be held only on the second and fourth Sundays of each month. These meetings will focus on messages from the most recent general conference. Teaching suggestions for these meetings are found in the May and November general conference issues of the Ensign and Liahona and in the Gospel Library app.

Other changes beginning in 2019 include the following:

» First-Sunday council meetings will be discontinued. However, as needed, elders quorums and Relief Societies may use part of a second- or fourth-Sunday meeting to counsel about an important topic. » Opening exercises, in which Aaronic and Melchizedek Priesthood quorums meet together or Relief Society sisters and young women meet together, will not be held. » Elders quorum and Relief Society meetings will not begin with an opening hymn or prayer but will conclude with a closing prayer.

Getting to know

Miriama Pecqueux New Caledonia, Tahiti and we finally moved to New Zealand.

My main occupation is being a Mathematics Teacher which is now on hold since I moved to New Zealand last march. I am now a full time Mom, taking care of our 5 beautiful children.

Being a Mom is quite epic sometimes with our children having so different passions in sports, music, school activities and church callings.

But I’m sure that some of you can relate to that.

My name is Miriama Pecqueux and I come from the beautify island of Tahiti. My husband Olivier is from New Caledonia and we have 5 children, 4 boys and one baby girl and their names are Arikinui, Frédéric, Tevarii, Raimana and Hekevai.

I was born and raised in the church in Tahiti and after graduating from high school, I went and lived in France for 5 years while studying Economics. After that, I’ve decided to go to Brigham Young University to improve my English and I finally decided to graduate from a Bachelor degree in IT and Mathematics. I met my husband Olivier at BYUH and we got married in December 2000. Since then we have lived in several countries, United States, Page 12

My main passion is Tahitian dance. I dance since I am 4 years old. Throughout my youth and my adult life, I have dance in several groups in Tahiti and have owned a Tahitian Dance School in New Caledonia for 5 years. I am proud of my achievement having started with just 2 little girls at the beginning and finishing five years later with more than 100 dancers enrolled in my school. I always considered my dancers as my little babies and still keep in touch with most of them.

I also love to sew. I first started sewing costumes for my Tahitian Dance School shows, then I took some sewing classes in Tahiti and starting making women dresses. I am not the faster seamstress at all but what I like the most is to make dresses for my daughter Hekevai. At least I get my projects done for her!

Since the 1st of January I started a new challenge: make 10,000 steps every day in

order to become more active. I have explained to my children during FHE that I used to play Basket-Ball when I was young and for several years now I just let sports getting away in my life. So I asked them to help me out to reach that daily goal. I have actually read that if you do something for 21 days, it becomes a habbit. Therefore, Raimana every day tells me: “Mom, did you do your steps?” and he actually doesn’t just ask the question, he takes my phone and check it every day! That really push from my children really helped me out and today the 24th of January, I have more than 10,000 steps everyday on my phone app! I am so proud of my achievement, and I am so grateful for my children support. I feel so blessed to have each one of those special spirits be part of my life.

New Year resolutions Tips for sticking to your fitness goals To prevent a case of resolution-ruining overtraining syndrome, follow these five fitness rules when you hit the gym.

1 Pace yourself - Don't go from zero to hero on the first day, If you have barely

worked out for the last six months set a realstic schedule

2 pay attention to form

- If you don't move correctly you wont' see results and injury can be just around the corner. Work with a trainer if possible

3 Shake it up instead of going harder - Get creative, add variety

to your training, try a yoga class or aqua aerobics class, keep it fresh!

4 Set a bedtime goal - Make sure you get enough sleep, it's great for your

nervous system and mental health, helps prevent burn out. Mediation is a great way to relax.

5 Give yourself a workout review - As yourself questions like Am I

struggling with my new routine? If you are then back off and review your routine. If it's to easy you may need to add or increase your routine.

Cooking - Countdown recipe

Rosemary and Maple Potato Skewers with Butterfly Chicken 1 whole butterfy chicken

Zest of ½ an orange

700g baby potatoes

2 cloves garlic, crushed

Salt

1 Tbsp maple syrup

2 Tbsp olive oil

12 bamboo skewers

2 Tbsp chopped rosemary

1 Tbsp chopped Italian parsley (optional)

Method 1. Cook the chicken according to the packet instructions.

2. In a large saucepan of salted water, bring potatoes to the boil. Simmer for 10-15 minutes until tender. Drain, then run under cold water to cool. Return to the pan.

3. Preheat the grill to a medium-high heat. If the potatoes are uneven sizes, cut larger ones in half.

Add the oil, rosemary, orange zest, garlic and maple syrup to the saucepan and toss the potatoes to coat. Thread several pieces onto each skewer.

4. Place the skewers on the grill and cook, for 3 minutes, or until grill marks develop. Brush with any remaining dressing as they cook. Turn the skewers and grill for 3 more minutes, or until crisp and golden all over.

5. Transfer chicken to a serving platter. Serve potato skewers on a platter and sprinkle with salt and chopped parsley.

Tip: Soak skewers in cold water for 15 minutes before using, to prevent them from burning on the grill.
