of the earth... You are the light of the world.’

From the CEO

More than four decades since our founding, LICC remains dedicated to serving and empowering individuals and churches to integrate the Christian faith with everyday life. We are passionate about helping people experience the ‘life in all its fullness’ that Jesus gives.

Whole-life discipleship not only transforms the lives of individuals and groups we engage with but also impacts the world around them. In short, our work is vital for God’s people and the world they inhabit today.

2023–24 has been an exciting season for LICC’s mission. In our last impact report, we outlined our ambitious five-year strategy, including our goal to engage one million Christians in whole-life discipleship by 2027. As we conclude the second year of this strategy, we’re witnessing remarkable growth in our reach and impact.

This year, we’ve concentrated on developing fresh content, expanding distribution channels, and forming strategic partnerships to amplify our work and extend our effectiveness. Notably, we’ve made significant strides in the digital space, investing in engaging Christians aged 18 to 35.

We hope that you’re encouraged by this report. God is working through LICC, and your support is transforming lives.

Thank you for partnering with us in making whole-life disciples. Because of you, thousands are being equipped to participate in God’s great project – the reconciliation and renewal of all things.

To God be the glory!

OUR VISION

To see a world transformed for the glory of God through whole-life disciples of Jesus.

OUR PURPOSE

To catalyse a movement that envisions and empowers Christians to live as disciples of Jesus in their everyday lives.

‘Our job is to make the invisible God visible –to mirror and mimic what he is like to the world. We can glorify God by doing our work in such a way that we make the invisible God visible by what we do and how we do it.’

Unpacking whole-life discipleship

At LICC, we talk a lot about whole-life discipleship. But what exactly do we mean by that and what does it look like in practice?
We want to help every Christian in the UK discover three simple and transformative truths.

WHEREVER WE ARE, WE CAN JOIN IN WITH WHAT GOD IS DOING

By identifying our frontline, we begin to see the inherent value and potential that God places there. This could be our office, local pub, sports class, or the school gate – wherever we usually spend time with people who don’t know Jesus.

THE TASKS WE DO MATTER DEEPLY TO GOD

Once they understand where their frontline is, we equip Christians to see that the tasks they do deeply matter to God. From writing reports to fixing lights, caring for parents to driving buses, we want to inspire Christians to see the God-given purpose in who they are and what they do.

WE CAN BE FRUITFUL IN ALL KINDS OF WAYS

This means growing more like Jesus and learning to bring God’s wisdom, grace, and truth into our whole lives and every single thing we do. Our 6M framework for fruitfulness is a key tool for this and helps Christians to see how God is working through them as they model godly character, make good work, minister grace and love, mould culture, are mouthpieces for truth and justice, and seek to be messengers of the gospel.

OVERCOMING THE SACRED-SECULAR DIVIDE

Too often, we can feel like some things are ‘sacred’ and important to God – church, charity work, evangelism –while others are ‘secular’ and irrelevant to our faith – work, hobbies, downtime.

But the truth is, there is no sacredsecular divide. God is working to make earth more like heaven through his people scattered in the world: through every accurate set of accounts and delicious meal served.

Ultimately, what we do Monday to Saturday is every bit as much a part of God’s mission as what we do on Sunday. If we want our world and society to be transformed by the good news of the gospel, we need to ensure every Christian sees the value of their daily tasks, and the myriad ways God can work through them in their ordinary places and relationships.

HOW YOU’VE HELPED

SPEAKING OF WHICH...

Inspire Christians to see that their everyday frontlines matter to God and equip them for fruitfulness

You’ve helped equip Christians for fruitfulness where they are through the new Thank God it’s Monday workplace podcast, a new film series on the Bible and work called Does God Care About My Work, and a major relaunch of our Instagram content.

‘LICC is playing a crucial role in enabling people to see their work – paid or unpaid – as worship and a fundamental aspect of Christian discipleship. This is not only right theologically, but vital missionally, and I am so grateful for the contribution LICC is making.’

THANK GOD IT’S MONDAY PODCAST

Thanks to your support, we released the first six-episode season of our work podcast. Featuring conversations with Christians in entry-level and senior roles across different sectors, it explores how they put their faith into action at work –and inspires listeners to spot how they’re making a difference through their own job. It’s been played over 5,000 times since launching, and based on data from Spotify, we estimate around 50% of listeners are aged 18–35.

Episode topics include: business rescue, management and organisational culture, and retail

84% of our Impact Survey respondents said LICC had increased their motivation to live out their faith on their frontline in the past 12 months

DOES GOD CARE ABOUT MY WORK?

In partnership with RightNow Media, we produced a three-part video series to help Christians think deeply about the significance of their work. In each episode, Mark Greene explores what the Bible has to say about why your work – paid or unpaid, in an office, in a factory, or at home – really matters to God.

Instagram

In September, we relaunched our Instagram profile – a key platform for engaging those aged 18–35. Our feed now features 60-second stories of Christians living fruitfully and faithfully with Jesus in their everyday life – from footballers to singer-songwriters, dietitians to recruitment consultants, and beyond.

We’ve also built partnerships with Christian influencers who have a following amongst our target age demographic, which has had a major impact on our reach and engagement goals.

Over the past year, we’ve had the joy of producing video stories featuring the influencers below.

Singer-songwriter, winner of BMI Christian Award (2022)
Climate influencer and activist, known as ‘Less Waste Laura’
Football freestyle athlete and 2x World Champion
Elle Limebear
Laura Young
Music producer and singer-songwriter, performs as CalledOut Music
Sam Nwachukwu
Harriet
Pavlou

The stats

We’ve seen a huge increase in engagement, with almost four times the number of accounts reached.

Our videos have been played over 425,000 times and our following is now at 5,402 with over 75% in our target age demographic.

Chris Lee’s video saw our best ever performance for a social media post on any platform, reaching over 55,000 accounts and accruing over 86,000 plays and 4,900 likes.

The domestic violence adviser

Rebekah is an independent domestic violence advisor (IDVA) for a charity based in southwest England. She advocates for victims of domestic abuse, both female and male, supporting those who are at risk of homicide or suicide.

‘We take survivors through the whole court process and I advocate for them in spaces where they don’t feel comfortable or confident. My job is to be a voice where they don’t feel they have one. I take them to an empty courtroom and show them where they’re going to sit and stand. We roleplay the questions they might be asked when giving evidence. On the trial date, I’ll sit with them in court and ask for breaks on their behalf. I’ll call them with the verdict and support them after. We don’t close an IDVA support case until the survivor is ready.

‘The work is challenging: there are days when I come home exhausted and feel like the justice system has let everyone down. But my job feels purposeful and there are pockets of hope – when there’s a positive outcome, it’s the greatest joy. It’s also good when a perpetrator pleads guilty and doesn’t drag their victim through a court battle.

‘I seek to give my all in every situation –many of which are complex. I’m dealing with broken people and the criminal justice system. I try to be a mouthpiece for truth and justice. I see evil every day, and I’m often frustrated and angry. God breaks my heart with what breaks his. I cling to the hope that Jesus is greater than these situations, and closer to the victims than they can possibly imagine.

‘I pray throughout my day, every day. I will be sitting in the public gallery of the court praying, often subconsciously. The work I do has definitely strengthened my faith. Please pray for the court system and all who are trying to bring about justice. Please also pray for victims of domestic abuse, and pray that perpetrators will understand that there is a different way to live their life.

‘I took part in LICC’s Emerging Leaders course and it provided me with practical tools and skills to keep Jesus at the centre of all I do in the workplace, personally and corporately. I have gone into situations at work seeking wisdom from God rather than operating out of my own knowledge.’

Embed whole-life disciplemaking in the life of the gathered church

OUR PROGRESS SO FAR 2022–23

HOW YOU’VE HELPED

Your support has enabled Vital Signs, a major new resource for church leaders, and Boundless, a whole-life focused songwriting camp, and brought the whole-life discipleship message to several key conferences for church leaders.

SPEAKING OF WHICH...

‘By helping us embed whole-life disciplemaking into the life of the church, LICC is playing a crucial role in the revitalisation of the church and the transformation of society.’

–Ness Wilson, Team Leader of Open Heaven and Leader of Pioneer Network UK

Of church leaders who responded to our Impact Survey:

68% say they have increased the importance they place on whole-life disciplemaking in the last 12 months thanks to LICC

66% say they have done more to build whole-life disciples in their church in the last 12 months thanks to LICC

Your generosity brought about the launch of Vital Signs – a flagship new resource for church leaders that will help them embed whole-life disciplemaking in the life of their churches.

Vital Signs unpacks 20 ways to put whole-life discipleship at the heart of church culture – from personal Bible reading to crisis response, service planning to pastoral chats, baptism prep to annual reports. Rather than adding to to-do lists, it brings new perspective to what churches already do.

The resource includes an online assessment tool, an in-depth book, next steps videos, and insight articles. Together, they help church leaders identify where they’re doing well at making whole-life disciples – and how they can improve.

1076 individuals have taken the Vital Signs assessment

44 churches have created a church team account

1000+ Vital Signs books distributed

‘Vital Signs is an inspiring, thoughtful, and refreshingly accessible invitation to whole-life discipleship… I have no doubt that this will become an invaluable resource, for individuals and entire communities, helping to create a culture of vibrant Christian transformation.'

–Pete Greig, Founder of 24-7 Prayer International and Senior Pastor at Emmaus Road Church

At the end of Ap ril, we hosted a twoday songwriting camp in partnership with Integrity Music, hosting 18 artists from across the UK, including Philippa Hanna, Noel Robinson, and Lucy Grimble. They gathered to challenge the culture of worship songs often sung in UK churches that can inadvertently reinforce the sacred-secular divide. Instead, they focused on writing songs that remind us that God is present and at work every day of the week.

We hope these songs will serve the church and awaken us to God’s presence and power in our everyday places and tasks.

‘Having been at the Boundless writing camp, I feel really challenged to remember that when we’re writing songs, we need to have our feet firmly on the ground, thinking about the context that people find themselves in every day, not just at a Sunday gathering.’

THE REDEEMED CHRISTIAN CHURCH OF GOD

In April , we were invited to exhibit at the RCCG Europe Continent Ordained Ministers' Conference where over 2,500 RCCG leaders gathered for an annual spiritual retreat. We gave every delegate a copy of The Great Divide, and our Director of Church Relationships, Ken Benjamin, spoke from the main stage on recognising the importance of God’s work in people’s daily lives and work.

FOLLOWING JESUS THROUGH THIN AND THICK

If there are ‘thin places’, then there are also ‘thick places’. In November, LICC’s Paul Woolley, Steve Rouse, and Jo Trickey led a week’s immersive retreat for 70 church leaders and others at Lee Abbey, to explore how we can live as disciples of Jesus in the ‘thick places’ of our everyday lives and work – and equip others to do the same.

‘Thanks very much for helping us to have a worthwhile and enjoyable few days at Lee Abbey and for sharing with us so engagingly. We were challenged and stimulated.’

–David, participant

EKKLESIA CONFERENCE

In March, we partnered with Share Jesus International for their roundtable conference, Ekklesia, engaging hundreds of church leaders from diverse backgrounds over 48 hours. Our Church Team Director, Steve Rouse, spoke on how we can release our congregations to change the world.

Help individuals understand their culture, grapple with complex issues, and live wisely in our time

HOW YOU’VE HELPED

Your partnership brought about the launch of a culture-focused podcast, The Whole Life Podcast, a radio series, and thoughtprovoking events – each equipping Christians to engage thoughtfully in our culture today.

SPEAKING OF WHICH...

‘LICC is at the forefront of efforts to help Christians navigate the complexity of our culture in ways that are authentic, wise, and lifegiving. I am so grateful for its contribution and challenge.’

–The Rt Revd Dr Graham Tomlin, Director of the Centre for Cultural Witness

73%

of our Impact Survey respondents say that LICC has increased their confidence to grapple with and respond wisely to complex issues in contemporary culture in the last 12 months

THE WHOLE LIFE PODCAST

Over 17 episodes, Paul Woolley and Grace Fielding have been joined by well-known experts to discuss how we can connect the Christian story with all of life. They’ve discussed everything from AI to politics, comedy to prayer, and fashion to individualism.

In total, The Whole Life Podcast has been played over 68,000 times. In March, we recorded a live episode from Westminster Chapel where we welcomed over 500 people to hear historian and podcaster Tom Holland (The Rest is History podcast, Dominion) with author Justin Brierley discussing his book, The Surprising Rebirth of Belief in God.

In November, we hosted a sold-out live recording at our London HQ. Pete Greig, the founder of 24/7 prayer, explored prayer’s essential role in the life of a 21st-Century disciple of Jesus.

We also produced an election special mini-series with politicians from across major parties to talk about the relationship between their Christian faith and politics.

‘Thanks for such an interesting and engaging series of conversations. I love your approach and style. It’s an intelligent and thought-provoking podcast...’

LABS REIMAGINE

Reimagine is our three-day course helping people discover how Jesus would live if he were them. This year, we recorded an additional 13-part series of 30-minute programmes to be broadcast by TWR to their 200,000 listeners.

Each episode explores a process of better understanding, engaging, and changing the culture of the everyday places where we’re called to follow Jesus.

‘I thoroughly enjoyed the course. LICC’s cutting-edge, culturally appropriate material equips us to be salt and light when we aren’t in church settings. Each session was resourceful and impactful, and I recommend every Christian does this course.’

WISDOM

Our Wisdom Labs are designed to help Christians engage sensitively and productively with the tricky subjects we all encounter in our daily contexts.

Events over the last year have included ‘Working Out Justice’, which looked at how we can live lives of justice in the everyday, and ‘Friendship on the Frontline’ which explored how would Jesus have us befriend those beyond the church in a culture of widespread loneliness.

At every Wisdom Lab, the goal is to listen well to our culture, the Bible, and one another, so we can respond wisely and with love.

The architect

Raphael Arthur is an architect. He works with local authorities, developers, charities, and social impact businesses to develop new buildings, design neighbourhoods, and help regenerate areas.

‘It was my twin sister who suggested that architecture would be good for me. It seemed like a way in which I could be creative and physically contribute to the community. During school, I secured a week’s work experience with an architect through a contact at a church youth group, and then went on to study architecture at university.

‘I love the fact that I get to imagine, dream, think, research, and talk with people, and then a couple of years down the line something in the physical space has drastically changed. It’s amazing to take ideas and ways of thinking about people and, through effort and energy, turn them into a new building or community space.

‘Working in this industry, it can be challenging to navigate the tension between my view of what constitutes value and contributes to human flourishing and other people’s views on commercial matters. When I’m working with a developer, what I believe to be the good life for people created in the image of God doesn’t always equate to the numbers they think should be on the profit-and-loss sheet.

‘But God is a God of renewal, and that includes renewal in us as people. That vison is something that I can apply to my work. Architecture can be shiny, and shiny things can be hard to put down. It can be tempting to try and make a name for yourself in the industry, but I want to resist that way of being. People can see that the way that I live is inspired by what I believe to be true about God. People sometimes put their whole life, body, and soul, into architecture, but I have wider commitments to God, like my family. That means that when it’s time to leave at 5.30pm, I’m straight out of the door. That’s a very different way to live.

‘I’d love prayer for courage to be open about my faith and speak up for the value of every person. There are lots of changes happening in the industry since the Grenfell Tower fire. Please pray for wisdom as we navigate these.’

Grow confidence in the Bible, its whole-life relevance, and its practical application

HOW YOU’VE HELPED

Your support has enabled the creation of a Bible-based TV series, ExtraOrdinary, and several new devotional journeys.

SPEAKING OF WHICH...

‘The Bible is a book for all of life. I am grateful for the contribution that LICC is making to help people see the relevance of the Bible to everyday life and work and the big issues of our time, equipping people to apply and embody its wisdom.’

–Dr Andrew Ollerton, theologian, communicator, and author of The Bible Course

ExtraOrdinary is a new TV series first aired on GodTV that brings the everyday contexts of people in the Bible to life. Coupled with contemporary stories, the vivid retellings have been designed to help Christians see that God cares about every aspect of life and to spark imagination for how God is already working in and through each of us.

Episodes cover the story of Paul’s shipwreck, Naaman’s servant girl, King David, and Ruth.

Devotional journeys

Our Advent and Lent devotional journeys helped a total of over 30,000 people read the Bible with a whole-life lens and respond to God’s invitation to walk with him in the everyday moments of each season.

‘I wanted to say a huge thank you for the Christmas Story daily emails. They were brilliant! Helpful and relevant. Whilst I do receive a couple of devotionals each day, this Christmas LICC email was definitely a top “go-to”.’

–Margaret, journey user

THE WHOLE CHRISTMAS STORY

Our Advent devotional journey was written by Jo Swinney and followed by over 22,000 Christians. The plan helped people explore the significance of the Christmas story as the crux of the whole Bible narrative, recognising that it all builds up to Jesus’ incarnation. It encouraged users to reflect on God’s call for them to live in a way that contributes to his redeeming work in the world, ushered in by Jesus’ birth.

ON PURPOSE

Over 40 days, our Lent devotional journey invited Christians and whole churches to get to grips with the Bible’s view of purpose and read true stories of how that purpose is worked out in all kinds of Christians’ lives today. Around 8,000 people tracked with the journey either on YouVersion or via email. We also produced an accompanying small group guide, videos, and a guide for church leaders.

‘It has been an inspiring and challenging journey for me, and I have appreciated its biblical integrity, the helpful personal, practical narratives, and the strong application challenges.’

–Colin, journey user

‘I really enjoyed On Purpose, in particular the very down to earth nature of the content: not deep theology but useful everyday tips to follow Jesus.’

–Merrielle, journey user

The filmmaker

Abhinav Varun Revis is a filmmaker who tells stories of persecuted people around the world.

‘I grew up in India and wanted to communicate the gospel to others. I thought I would go to college, study theology, and start a church, but a cousin of mine was making films and asked if I could help him out. I was blown away when I saw the final cut of the film we had made, and I realised that this was something I wanted to do. If you tell stories through film, the sky’s the limit in terms of those you can reach. The Bible is full of stories. If Jesus was here today, I think he might be a film producer.

‘As a child, I was taught that “your work is your worship”. It’s a popular proverb in India that I still follow today. I am inspired by Colossians 3, where Paul writes that whatever we do, we should work as if we are “working for the Lord” (v23). In my job, I am assigned various tasks and directed to specific locations to document different situations. I then go out to the location to meet people and build trust with them. This is really important, as I could be an undercover agent or working for the police. I enable people to share their stories, bring back the footage and put it together.

‘I seek to be a mouthpiece for truth and justice in my work. The films I make can speak deeply to people. If you see someone

suffering unjustly, especially for their faith, that can draw you to God. There have been times when I’ve made mistakes, but the stories I’ve told have changed me. They have challenged my own faith and any tendencies towards complacency.

‘I am profoundly inspired by Malala Yousafzai who said: “One child, one teacher, one book, and one pen can change the world.” I am a creative person. I love writing, photography, and music. I strive to contribute what little I possess as I create films and teach others the art of filmmaking. When I offer my talents to God, he can use and multiply them.

‘Life is short, and our time is limited. Please pray that I will make an impact in the lives of people as I tell their stories using the gifts God has given me.’
