May 2025

Welcome from the Headmaster of Princethorpe College, Grove du Toit.

It is with great excitement that I welcome you back to Princethorpe for the twenty-fourth Stoneleigh Riding Club Area 5 Two Day Event and the National Schools’ Two-Day Event, held for the tenth year running on the Princethorpe estate. Last year saw my second experience of this fantastic weekend and I have no doubt this year will deliver in the same measure and more. Our water complex and viewing area, accessible by a bridge from the North Lawn, will once again be a must visit for spectators on Sunday for the cross-country course

We were delighted with the very successful introduction of the 70cm class, which means it will be running again this year, alongside the traditional 80cm, 90cm, and 100cm classes The event has schools’ classes with trophies at all four heights, for those schools who are members of the Independent Schools’ Association (ISA), an organisation representing independent schools and which has a very long and successful history of inter-schools’ sport competitions

This is a massive event to plan, manage, and run, and it would not take place without the hard work and dedication of the organisers, made up of Stoneleigh Riding Club, parents, staff, pupils, and friends of Princethorpe College I would also like to put on record our extreme gratitude to Bud Jackson, Jo Hayward, Philippa Gibbs, Wendy Bell, Sue Jessett, Lloyd Hunt, Alex Darkes, Rebecca Moreton, and the ISA, without whose energy and enthusiasm this event would not be possible Thanks, too, to our grounds, estates, and catering teams for their tremendous help- it genuinely requires all hands-on deck, and we are very proud of our efforts

Special thanks to all our sponsors, without whom we could not stage this event I am also delighted that Princethorpe has this year taken on the role of primary sponsor for the event

Please note this event is being run under BRC rules; do please follow the directions and instructions of our stewards I hope that you have a successful and enjoyable weekend here at Princethorpe and that the weather stays fine and dry!

WELCOME

On behalf of Stoneleigh Riding Club, a warm welcome to the 2025 Two Day Event.

Last year, the very wet spring threw doubt onto the running of any events, but this year, so far, the continuing dry weather has had the opposite effect. However, we are, once again, so very grateful to Princethorpe College for allowing us the use of their fabulous grounds where the wonderful old turf provides lovely going, from which we can all benefit.

We are sad to report that our main sponsors of the past few years, The Wigley Group, have had to pull out this year, but I am delighted and extremely grateful to Mr du Toit, Headmaster of Princethorpe College, for stepping in at short notice, so that the College will be sponsoring as well as hosting the event this year. Without the main, very generous, sponsor and the sponsors of individual cross country fences, it would not be possible to run the event at all.

Lloyd Hunt has once again planned and built the cross country course, as always using the undulating ground to best effect with his flowing courses, introducing new fences to provide a challenging but inviting course at all levels. The success of the introduction of the 70cm class, has been continued into this year’s event Also, as last year, in order to accommodate those competitors who do not feel that they have been able to get their horses fit enough to take on the “long format” event, a “short format” version will be run alongside. In these sections, the event will still be run over two days, but there will be no roads and tracks or steeplechase, so that competitors will do their dressage and show jumping on Saturday, with just the cross country on Sunday.

This event could not take place without the vast number of supporters who give their time so generously. Stoneleigh Riding Club’s committee and Rebecca Moreton from Princethorpe College work tirelessly to organise the event. Rebecca has taken over her role from Alex Darkes, but we will still look forward to welcoming Alex in his usual role on Saturday as show jumping announcer.

We would also like to thank the head groundsman, Ed Robertson, and all groundsmen and staff at the College and the tenant farmer for allowing us access, Stoneleigh's members, friends, relations, helpers, and of course all the competitors, without whom the event simply could not take place. The hours and effort everyone puts in are really what makes the Two Day Event possible

We do hope you all enjoy the 202 spectating or officiating and loo enjoyable two days. Once again, many thanks to Mr d their unfailing support.

Good luck to all who are taking p
