College and Career's outreach incorporates diverse talents Story by Richard Scales

Or"ne of the most important decisions m a d e by each student is his choice of a Christian Service. In a church of 19,000 m e m b e r s with Christian Services ministering to nearly every age group, the question of "Where do I fit in?" is difficult to answer. M a n y students choose the College and Career Christian Service which serves T h o m a s Road's second largest Sunday School class. Its 78 Christian Service workers are under the direction of College and Career Pastor Doug Randlett and College and Career's Intern Leader Dave Wood. Their goal is to develop a vehicle through which every 18 through 24-year-old Lynchburg resident will hear the Gospel in an understandable fashion and have the opportunity to spiritually mature. T h o m a s Road Baptist Church's College and Career class has an average attendance of over 700 and is as diversified as it

is large. There are four major areas of service available to its workers and class members, giving everyone ample opportunity for involvement and outreach. O n e area of involvement is the singing group, Priority. Priority has approximately 60 members and is divided into two chorales. A s a combined group, Priority sings every other Sunday in T h o m a s Road's 8:15 a.m. service. A s two chorales, Priority sings in various T R B C classes and also in area churches.

Another area of outreach and service is College and Career's visitation program that divides the city into several regions. Workers go out by twos to visit the people w h o have attended the class for the first time. O n e m e m b e r said, "I feel that visitation gives it (C & C) a personal touch. You know, 700 people is a big crowd, and it's easy to get lost in there. The visitation program makes it more personal, more d o w n to earth." Staff photo/Woody Tripp
