Policy Jacuzzi & Saunas

Q. Can children use the jacuzzis, steam room or saunas?

A. It is the policy of Liberty Athletic Club that children under the age of 12 years are not allowed to use the jacuzzi, steam room or saunas. This decision was made after careful consideration and communication with several health and safety agencies including the American Red Cross, the Washtenaw County Health Department, and the Council for National Cooperation in Aquatics (CNCA).

Did you know?

Increasing a child’s core body temperature above normal (98.6 degrees) mimics a fever response in the body.

Additionally, young children are more susceptible to common pathogens, including many types of bacteria that may be present in the water. The effects of these pathogens can range from rashes and other skin irritations to intestinal symptoms and flu like conditions. The mode of transportation for these pathogens can be skin absorption or ingestion of water, which occurs at a higher rate in children who tend to play in the tub rather than soak in it.

Have an idea?

Liberty is always interested in what our members have to say. If you have any comments or suggestions for the club, please drop us a note. We would love to hear from you! You can also find our Suggestion Box at the Front Desk.
