In recent years, with the rise of the feminist movement and the continuous development of the western women's liberation movement, films and TV programs have provided more possibilities for middle-aged and elderly women to speak out.

The Chinese film and television industry is now intensely discussing the topic of middle-aged actresses.

Male actors are more suitable for more roles as they get older; The opposite is true for women. Gender and age discrimination are widespread in the film and television programs. In fact, a large number of "faces" have been lost in film and television, and this range includes gender, race, sexuality, disability, age, and body size. Why are these characters invisible? From the perspective of technoethics, how did prejudice and discrimination against them come into being? What does this have to do with algorithms in the age of big data？

We’ve seen movements for gender equality in Hollywood, in Silicon Valley — and even on Madison Avenue. In response to longstanding sexism in advertising, industry leaders such as Madonna Badger are highlighting how objectification of women in advertising can lead to unconscious biases that harm women, girls and society as a whole.

Agencies are creating marquee campaigns to support women and girls.

Invisible Faces

The stories that we choose to tell in entertainment media send a specific message about who matters most in our culture. In order to bring about a global culture change, it is especially important that people see diverse, intersectional representations of characters in media to reflect the population of the world — which is half female and very diverse — and avoid unwittingly instilling unconscious bias in them.

If they can see it, they can be it.

With the development of technology, algorithmic discrimination has become a closely concerned issue, and the relationship between algorithms and the film and television industry has become close.
