MEDIATHEQUE SHARSWOOD PHILADELPHIA, PA

How do you foster community while providing access to educational, working, and green spaces that encourage interaction?

Solo Project (13 weeks)

Featuring a four story fully accessible green roof, this multimedia library provides a space for community members with varrying needs to come and share experiences. The copper panels on the exterior, will patina, providing greenery even in the winter. The mass timber structure compliments the natural and earthy nature of the green walls and roof, creating a warm inviting atmosphere that encourages people from different backgrounds to come and share experiences.

Due to the patina of the copper and regrowing nature of the wall panels, the library will never look the same twice.

TEMPLE OF LIGHT PHILADELPHIA, PA

2nd Year

How do you create a non-denomintational place of practice and community node around one of the altars of peace made by George Nakashima?

Solo Project (4.5 weeks)

The Temple of Light houses one of the altars of peace made by George Nakashima. Each altar of peace is a 12' x 14' table made of one slab of solid wood, made by Nakashima to create a place that people could gather, talk, and listen to each other. This Temple provides a sanctuary of protection for the altar, in a literal and figurative sense. The sanctuary space is "held up" by the offices and support spaces, in a nod towards the importance of staff in the ongoing success of the Temple.

How do you create innovatative architecture and a relevant program from the traits of existing everday objects?

Solo Project (4 weeks)

Inspired by the organic form and energy of nature and the order and rigidity of the man made, Formganic is comprised of three wings, with each containing a unique restaurant and greenhouse. Each restaurant is sustained by the plants grown right next door, and the transparency of the whole process assures the customer of the quality and freshness of the food.

The goal of this project was to combine elements from two small, distinct objects into one structure. The first step was to model the objects in Rhino (shown below). Once the objects had been modeled, dissected, and sketched, a design was finalized.

FLOW STATE BLUE BELL PARK PHILADELPHIA, PA

4th Year

How do you create a place of reflection and worship that ignites a flow state in the user while being open to all religions and beliefs?

Group Project (15 weeks) - My Contribution: Rhino Model, Grasshopper Scripts, Main Rendering, Plans, Diagrams, Wall Section, Detail

Common among all religions and belief systems is the goal of reaching a flow state, which may be characterized as enlightenment, transcendence, or something else. In this place of worship, the "ribbon" guides the user on a journey of an ever changing experience towards the bottom, at which point they are compelled to look up and contemplate their path. This comprehensive studio project uses prefabricated modular elements to create architecture that embodies and sparks a flow state, while also coordinating structure and mechanical systems.
