Staffing Solutions Inc. Job Talkin’ FROM THE PRESIDENTS DESK

The Truth of It: Why Trust is Essential in Recruiting

Many job seekers have decided that working with a search firm is beneficial—especially if they are currently employed or doing contract work. Working full-time eats up the hours that are required for job search activities. Staffing firms have multiple openings, and can provide you more information (salary, benefits, culture) than what most job seekers can find out on their own. While staffing firms can be a valuable partner in your search, we are not all the same. Make sure you are working with a reputable firm. Trust is essential. Read on. ~Bonny Filandrinos

Effective communication and time dedicated to building good relationships is required to have success in working with a recruiting/staffing firm to assist you with obtaining suitable employment opportunities.

The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People states, “Trust is the glue of life. It’s the most essential ingredient in effective communication. It’s the foundational principle that holds all relationships.” In order for a recruiter to successfully match candidates with jobs, they need to be invested in the candidates they represent. To effectively evaluate a candidate’s skills and suitability for a job, you need to be able to share openly your work history, life and goals. This is where trust comes in.

The most effective way to build trust with a staffing firm is to ensure your goals are aligned. Shared goals should be the basis of your relationship with anyone you have representing you for employment opportunities. We can readily apply this to the relationship between candidate and recruiter. Good communication can ensure that each party is confident in the experience or expertise of the other. The shared goal of finding a successful match for the candidate and the employer is what it’s all about.

At Staffing Solutions, we understand that convincing candidates to trust in today’s society is not always an easy task. It’s very difficult to rebuild trust when a candidate comes into a recruitment agency already mistrustful of the “world of work”. Unfortunately, there are also a number of unethical practices and agencies that exist in the recruitment industry, just as unethical practices can take place in any industry. When selecting a recruiter to represent you as a job candidate, it is important to ensure that you are collaborating with a reputable recruiter. We advise looking for recruiters who have years of experience in the industry and have established a strong reputation. Check for online reviews for negative feedback. Ask for recommendations from colleagues in your industry; they may have good experiences with recruiters in your niche.

There are still recruiters who are relying on sending a generic message to potential candidates and posting vague job descriptions. Candidates need to be provided with something more solid than this in order to lend their trust. At the end of the day, the truth of it is that a high quality recruitment firm cannot be run without trust. Start out on the right foot: contact Staffing Solutions. We have an outstanding reputation for experience, ethics, and integrity. Call us today!
