Hello and welcome to the 2021 2022 Lancashire Young Farmers Yearbook

After so long since the last yearbook, we were incredibly excited to be able to put this together It is a great way to see what we have been up to from a County level but also from a regional and club level

Thank you to all the committees, regions and clubs for getting on board and providing an update on what you have been up to for the last 12 months It is amazing to see so many successes across the county, and to see that we have not only recovered but are thriving!

Thank you to all our sponsors over the last year and to all those that have placed an advert in this book Without your support, we couldn't plan and organise the competitions and events that we put on for our member and we couldn't of produced this book

As county officials, we are all incredibly proud of the success of the county this last year, of you the members and family and friends that support each and every one of us

COUNTY OFFICIAL REPORTS

Before l started writing this report, l had a little trip down memory lane and had a look through some of the old yearbooks from around thirty years ago

They were a great sources of inspiration but mostly it brought back some fond memories, mostly of when I had hair and the dodgiest moustache ever!

I am pleased that the initiative from the County Chair has brought the yearbook back to life It is a great record of members achievements over the year and a record to look back on in future years and think, "did l use to dress like that" or "why did l have a mullet? "

I do hope that Young Farmers will continue producing a yearbook year on year to catalogue all the achievements of members and include a club photo of every club so we can look back in fondness at members and friends who went on the YFC journey with us

Over recent years we have been modernising YFC, our communication methods and financial accounting systems are all online and a YFC app, that members can use to access bYFC resources and if you want to buy a ticket for an event, that is also

online on Ticketebo This is what the members want in the 21st century and if you don't keep up to date you will get left behind

As a federation, we have bounced back well following the Covid Pandemic

Membership number have increased to well over 800, a huge increase on our pre pandemic numbers It just goes to show that Young Farmers is going from strength to strength

To move forward, retain and even improve on these numbers, we have to listen to our members and provide them with a varied and exciting programme of events on the educational, training, sports and social fronts, keeping standards high and maintaining the feel good factor That’s what will being members back, time and time again

I am proud to be your President and l will do everything l can make sure you have the time of your lives in YFC

Federation Ithasbeenan supporters of the Lancashire

Hello members and Chairman for the 2021 2022 membership year As a federation, we have bounced back tremendously well post pandemic and I am so proud to have been part of it absolute honour to be your County

It has been a pleasure working with Caisha to create this yearbook My partner Neil, ex County Chairman of Cumbria YFC, brought home the 2021/22 Cumbria yearbook and stated that Cumbria is far superior to Lancashire We all know that this simply isn’t true, so the initial idea of bringing back the yearbook became a reality and so here we are!

even foam parties It has been a joy to be able to attend your events, connect with your members and celebrate with you It is amazing to see that membership numbers across the county, are back to where they were before the AGMs were cancelled;

When I took on the role as County Chairman in December 2021, I had a goals and visions as to where I would like the federation to be I wanted to connect with the members and make their voices heard, no matter where they come from within the county My main focus has been to help clubs ‘find their feet again’ following the pandemic and to help increase membership numbers

I am so pleased to say that the federation is back in full swing with every club in the county having weekly meetings, competing in county competitions, and doing what they do best, having social events! We have seen bingo nights, presentation night, dinner dances and

just to name a few

MoooHundred Club members have doubled in the last 6 months, which is positive to see If you are not already signed up, joining information can be found on the last page! Thanks to the funding from the MooHundred Club, a training grant from RYT and a donation from the Gornall Family, we have been able to provide Club Officer training, Mental Health training and First Aid training at no cost to the attendees

COUNTY CHAIRMAN
10

We have also seen plenty of curve modules being delivered t see these opport

I want to take this opportunity to thank my partner, Neil, for supporting me throughout the year, I couldn't have done it without him

A few highlights f County Dinner become County everyone suppo have the first pos a sell out I must Area competition incredibly well i think I’ll ever forgive Samlesbury YFC for making me play hockey feeling as rough as I did and in boat shoes and jeans

Also, my mum & dad and rest of my family and friends, who have been there to help whenever I have called upon them Thank you to my mum & Abs, who have never said no whenever I’ve needed a babysitter to allow me to attend a meeting! Thank you to everyone who is close to me who has supported me in my role, I will forever be grateful

I honestly struggle to put into words how incredible it has been being Lancashire’s County Chairman, and if anyone is thinking of doing the role it is something I would definitely recommend I know that it’s something I will look back on in years to come and be so glad I did it I’ve been truly lucky to have a fantastic team to work with, I won’t individually name them as you can see them on the official’s page, but they all have a major role to play one way or another in making the Federation run smoothly, and they have done a splendid job this last year

For me personally, the best day of the year must be County Rally hosted by Southwest region, a fantastic day was had by all members Though I was slightly disappointed to see County President, oooJohnny Neary, getting away without ooo being thrown in the water from the ooooo obstacle course and end up wet ooooooo through like Ed and I did He ooooooooo must watch his back next year!

Once again thank you for electing me to be your County Chairman and I hope to see the Federation continue to thrive for the future.

saying that something had come up and Lancashire would need an extra Vice Chair I didn't realise that the 'someth would become a regular attendee of YFC I received a Snapchat from Haze Well, it's been emotional

thing to happen in Chipping since Johnny Neary's birth 21 years ago More and more social events followed, some very memorable nights others slightly fuzzy

It only seems like yesterday, th

12 months later and it’s been a fair rod there’s been late nights, early mornin crying, laughing and more visits to the pe station than I could care to count

There’s been some incredible times, with some incredible people I’ve especially enjoyed attending all the competitions, and it’s been eye opening, whether it’s learning h h h i i d t hing H at N

I can’t write a yearbook report without touching on the most Northerly club in Lancashire I’m incredibly proud to see my beloved Vale O’ Lune thrive this year, under the meetings

As many of you know, the social side of YFC is where I’m most at home, and it’s been an incredible year for that There’s been good times, and bad decisions aplenty Shindig in the Showfield seems like an awfully long time ago, but it’s a good place to start The first do back after Covid and it definitely felt like everyone had been waiting two years for it A strong contingent from Cumbria boosted our numbers to full capacity, and it seemed like the most significant

The highlight for me must go to Parbold for their Foam Party Reborn I’m still scarred now I don’t think my trainers will ever recover As one of the only sober people in the room, it was an incredible sight, 300 or more Young Farmers covered in foam, singing Nelly the Elephant like you were trying to wake the dead. I originally thought working behind the bar would be an easy way to keep clean and dry, I was very wrong I’d like to thank the various members who went out of their way to make sure they covered me in foam/drinks/water, they clearly did it out of love

VICE COUNTY CHAIRMAN

The list of people to thank for helping me this year is pretty much endless but here’s some of the main ones Firstly, to my mum and dad, both ex LFYFC members, thanks oo for pushing me in this role and offering oooo me advice and help so often ooooooo Secondly to my boss, Dave, ooooooooo thanks for letting me skive off oooooooooo work early to attend meetings ooooooooooo and comps Also, thanks ooooooooooooo for not firing me for ooooooooooooooo spending more

time on the phone doing YFC stuff than actually working

Next to Mr Worldwide, DHTT, cheers for being my constant companion at meetings, Dave and for offering me more help than you could ever know Thank you for being tee total and therefore my taxi

Finally, to the real Boss Hazel you’ve done a fantastic job, it’s been a pleasure to be your Vice Chairman for the last 12 months Thanks for all the midnight phone calls when you’re on Hen Dos Thanks for not quite killing me with your driving, I know it’s been close I am incredibly proud to call you a friend Finally, I’d just like to say how brilliant it is to be a part of Lancashire I truly believe this is the greatest county in the country

It has been a pleasure to working in Football and Private Education, it has been a huge learning curve for me, like learning a whole new language most days! I have thoroughly twelve months After coming from

enjoyed my first year in the role and canno fully express my appreciation for the warm welcome that I have received from you all

I was appointed into this role as you, th members, wanted to take the federatio online, to come away from a paper base office and to further improve our processe and to grow Throughout this last year, I hav worked on making this happen

We have a new website, a LFYFC App, online membership form, entry forms and store, just to name a few I am pleased to say that this has all taken place a lot sooner than expected and that has only been possible with your help The changes have been k i id d braced, allowing us to n

pleased to say that thi greatest number of e federation has had in at least six years! In 2017 Lancashire Young Farmers had 843 active members, over the years that followed this begin to steadily

decrease In 2020, due to the pandemic, member numbers dropped dramatically to 582 and then 488 in 2021 Thankfully, due to all the hard work that has been put in by County Officials, Club Officials, and you the members, this year, we are finishing in excess of 870 members

almost 20 years Before writing my report, I browsed through some of the previous yearbooks for inspiration They were less than helpful in terms of my report, however, I did have a giggle at some of the 90s hairstyles and questionable outfits! It has been really interesting to see just how much the federation has changed over the last 30 years but the one thing that has remained the same, is the passion of the members As a member lead organisation, the successes of the federation are ultimately down to you

When I first started, Mick Handley was County Chair and with no official office manager in post at the time, my induction and training was down to Mick A daunting task, I am sure But Mick did a grand job, had lots of patience and makes a good brew

COUNTY OFFICE MANAGER
14

Our meeting on my first day, was however cut short as it was perfect sheep shearing weather At that point, I did wonder what on earth I had gotten myself into I really enjoyed working with Mick for the first couple of months, putting new processes in place and starting the new membership year When he explained that the County Chair changes every year, I did have a mini panic at first but I was excited to work with Hazel going forward

Mental health is of such huge importance, even more so with the events of the last couple of years It is something that has an impact on most of us, whether it is direct, with our own mental health or that of family or friends, being able to spot the signs or open up to someone could just save a life

Hazel and I have continued to move the federation forward, with huge success I am pleased to have been able to assist Hazel with carrying out her goals and visions whilst in role as County Chair We have a great working relationship, Hazel has always been at the end of the phone if needed her and has continued to support me with my goals, targets and visions for the office

I have had great fun working with the competitions committee and have learned just how competitive young farmers really are Especially when it comes to TOW! My first County Rally went well, a little chaotic to get your head around but I enjoyed the day, despite being pooped on by a pigeon I am

however, still none the wiser as to what a H oo Raised Growler or Yorkshire Brack are?!

oooo I am excited about the future of t ooooooo federation, especially our n oooooooo partnership with CANW

Lastly, I wanted to take this opportunity to thank the staff management committee, having no background in farming or agriculture, it was a huge risk taking me on, but I do feel that the risk has paid off I have continually been supported by Paul Morris, and have been made to feel welcome and appreciated, something that goes a long way for employees and their wellbeing I have finally been able to sleep on a Sunday night, which is not something I have had in previous roles with the dread of a Monday morning!

Once again, thank you for welcoming me into the young farmers family

My door is always open CaishaTyler CountyOfficeManager

Well, what a year we have

had for our first full face to face

yearafterCOVID!

It's been great to have a full year of social events again, thanks go to the social committee for adding some new ideas such as Junior Shindig, into the mix

It's fantastic to have something on offer for every member in the county Please support these events and the social committee in the future to ensure their success can continue!

As a county we have ridden the tough times of covid out well in a financial sense This is thanks to grants and a bounce back in membership numbers this year Our reserves are now looking healthy again and thanks must go out to all of you for joining, re joining, and promoting young farmers in your clubs

Remember there are funds available to help you The training fund can award money towards training courses and the training committee are using some of these funds to organise courses across the county so please support them by attending

The jubilee fund helps with travel, previous recipients of grants have used it towards NFYFC international travel, but other types of travel will also be considered You can apply for these funds via the office by submitting information about your trip or course but please allow time for applications to be considered and don't leave them until the last minute!

We have had a very exciting year in the finance department of LFYFC After the member survey, we have been working hard to modernise our accounting systems and work towards more paperless approach We have appointed new auditors, switched bank accounts, and implemented accounting software

All these changes are helping us to improve financial reporting, work in a more paperless way and be fully compliant with charity commission requirements Thanks must go to Caisha for all her hard work going to and fro with the various banks etc to ensure all these changes have been made successfully

I'm looking forward to the next financial year when hopefully we will be able to reap the rewards of all the challenges and changes!

The term “Big boots to fill”

Claire seemed to achieve a fairly full competition calendar, during a pandemic, with serenity and calmness And to be fair this year started out in a similar fashion, with the will never be more apt than

office as Competition Secretary.

The next major event in the comps wasn’t until March, with Rural Skills day This was the first big competition day in the county since the pandemic and safe to say that was alot of panicking behind the scenes Trying to get hold of a crosscut saw at short notice turned out to be extremely difficult, however the day ran well and it was great to see clubs out in force, with the day ending with Vale O’ Lune taking home the silverware

Public Speaking and Sports competitions

These were held shortly after the competitions AGM, whereby the new committee officers were voted in; Rachel Garner as Chairman, and Ed Clarke as secretary

This first competition ran smoothly, mainly down to the fact Claire had organised it before retiring as secretary, but also down to the low numbers entered It must be said however, that it was inspirational to watch Dave Hartley attempt to referee the Dodgeball competition having trained by watc followingClaireRowlandsoninto

Another big competition was Stockman of the Year, kindly hosted by the Forshaw Family at Littletown Again it was good to see such a strong turn out after 2 years off The quality of Stockjudging was high, with the Shorrock Brothers taking home top places in both senior and junior

There have been a variety of smaller competitions along the way, with Horse Stockjudging held at Red Earth, which was an education for Ed as he thought all horses were the same Also Clay Pigeon shooting at Blackpool Sporting Clays, where we discovered that there are very few sharpshooter in the county Sheep Shearing was another interesting night, and I still have absolutely no idea how the scoring works Looking a forward and we have another busy year of comps, starting with Swimming, Debate and Live and Carcass in October, so keep your eyes peeled!

20 COMPETITIONS COMMITTEE

SOCIAL COMMITTEE

We started the year still riding high from the incredible success of the Shindig in the Showfield Our first social, post pandemic, and we really made up for the lost time! We reached capacity within a matter of weeks of the tickets becoming live and had a waiting list for any cancellations We even had our neighbouring counties in attendance

It was a fantastic night, with Disco Jackers keeping us entertained and an ample supply of fluids

The first social event of the 2021 22 membership year was our annual Christmas Carol Concert It was nice to see some of our older members, Vice Presidents, and Honorary Life Member in attendance

Although we did raise some funds from the event, the decision has been made that going forward, rather than host our own carol concert, we would like to reserve our resources and instead help to grow and develop the concert of our local RABI The connection we have with RABI is incredibly important to us and we would like to keep it strong

Immediately following Hazel’s election into the role of County Chairman, we began planning the County Ball With the extended break, rebranding of the county office and the exponential growth of the federation, we decided it was time to give the County Dinner Dance a facelift and thus the County Ball was O born

We had amazing support from not only the members that bought tickets, but also all the companies that sponsored a table and the headline sponsor, Brent Stansfield Cattle Foot Trimming Thanks to all your support, we were able to not only cover the costs of the event, but also raise funds to go back into county to allow us to continue arranging these fantastic events

We had an unforgettable night, great entertainment, some interesting speeches, and some fantastic raffle prizes In true Young Farmers style, the bar staff couldn’t keep up with us The evenings event was beautifully captured by Kirk Lowe Photography, although there were definitely a few things that didn’t need to be captured!

At the time of preparing this report, the committee are in the process of planning the next Shindig in the Showfield! After last year’s success, we are really excited for the evening

We started the 2021/22

The evening saw current role holders, ex role holder and future role holders coming together for an evening of learning and idea sharing year with a Club Officer

We covered a range of topics such as, member recruitment, programme planning officer responsibilities and safeguarding The night was a great success, with role holders having the opportunity to learn from those that have been there before, gaining valuable skills to run a successful club for their members We are looking forward to our next training evening to prepare the new role holders for the year ahead

This year, we had the opportunity for Dairy Judging training kindly delivered by Richard & Barbara Lucas on behalf of Lancashire Holstein Club A fantastic day of training, demonstrations and helpful advice to trainingnight, generouslyhosted

The committee have been working hard behind the scenes, to plan and arrange first aid training With special thanks to the Gornall family for their generous donation, we will be able to fully fund this life saving training that will take place in the new membership year

As a county, we have recently partnered with CANW to help to support our members with their mental health This new partnership will allow us to provide training to all our county officials, committee officials, region and club role holders and members Mental health is of such huge importance, whether it’s being able to spot the signs in ourselves or being able to safely support a loved one and as a county, we are so proud to be able to champion this in the coming year

The training committee has been headed up by chairman, David Hartley of Vale O’Lune and secretary, Rebecca Dale of Rainford.

We are looking forward to continuing the training and development opportunities by NFU Skelmersdale

Regional meetings are usually held on the first Thursday of each month at Waddington Social club with representatives from each of the six clubs coming together to discuss upcoming events and competitions

Our 2021 AGM was held on the 4th of October where new officers were elected by members with Neil Hodkinson being elected as Chairman, Robert Spencer as Secretary and Grace Ashworth as Treasurer Members voted Graham Young to continue his role as President of the region, given the fantastic support he has provided the region over the difficult Covid period

April saw the annual Regional Rally competition kindly organised by Pendle YFC and hosted at Gisburn Auction Mart It was good to see that despite the 2022 rally being the first in three years due to Covid, members were out in force to represent their respective clubs in static competitions, stock judging and the greatly anticipated boat race amongst others A good entry was seen from all clubs across all competitions and members did their clubs proud Pendle again

Members dusted off their suits and dresses and enjoyed a Black Tie event, that included a three course meal, live band and of course plenty of drinking and dancing For the first Bowland Ball, it’s safe to say it was a resounding success

Bowland Region is looking forward to hosting the Bowland Ball’ again in 2022 on the 14th October following the success of last year’s event Further details are to follow but if last year’s ball is anything to go by it is set to be a night to remember the region celebrating its 45th anniversary in 2020 (mid Covid) Chipping, Slaidburn and Pendle

Pennine is the smallest region to make up Lancashire Lancashire Young Farmers with just two clubs making up the region, Bury YFC & Turton YFC

The region is headed up by Chairman,

James Davies, Secretary, Amy Phillips, Treasurer, James Davies and President, Katie Delaney

Although small, we are still mighty, and this was proved at County Rally With entries to almost all competitions, and some excellent results from the members, Pennine came away with 10 trophies including Top Region Overall! A huge achievement, one that we are all incredibly proud of

Bury YFC recently attended the Bury & District Agricultural show, representing not only themselves and the region but also

We have enjoyed regional meetings, with the two clubs coming together to enjoy a f lk d l d L

amazing achievement for their pilot run from a younger member club

With only two clubs, that are very much involved with each other, Pennine region meetings are more sparce than the other regions but when we do get together, we meet on a Tuesday at the Duckworth Arms, 8pm

We are excited to see what the next year brings and hoping to retain our Top Region title at the next County Rally! Other regions, watch out!

PENNINE REGION

South West region is made up of Rainford, Chorley, Parbold and Croft Young Farmers Clubs We meet on the first Thursday, bi monthly at a variety of venues across South West

The region has been going for many years, but unfortunately, all clubs took a hit in 2020 and 2021 due to the pandemic Together, we have all worked exceptionally hard over the last year to make a remarkable comeback, not just meeting the numbers but well and truly exceeding them!

The highlight of the year for all clubs has to be County Rally, it was the first one post pandemic and South West had the honour of organising and hosting the day

Since 2021, each club has hosted many successful events including Rainford’s Dyno

Night, Croft’s Bongo’s Bingo, Chorley’s Pre Harvest Hoe Down, the Regional Rally, County Rally and the annual Dinner Dances Parbold’s annual foam party also made a return in July 2022 after six years, a fantastic event that received amazing support from not only the regions members, but the members across the county

As a region we came second in top region for mixed classes, third in top region in floral art and third in top region in NA junior classes. We saw successes from our members individually, with many placings achieved and further qualifying to represent Lancashire at Northern Area It was fantastic to see so many etting involved hanks to the huge success of our Comedy ght, we are excited to announce that it will be coming back in October! As a region, our goal for the next year is to bring the clubs together more, giving members the opportunity to get to know each other, have more experiences and get the most out of Young Farmers We hope to have a bigger representation in County competitions, b h

OOOOOOOO It has come around to that OOOOOOO time in the YFC calendar where OOOOO Lancashire have taken on the OOO Office Holder roles for the Northern OO Area Committee in 2021/22 (with the OO last time being back in 2015) and what O a year it has been so far!

The Northern Area Committee is made up of the seven counties in the North of England: Cumbria, County Durham, East Riding of Yorkshire, Lancashire, Isle of Man (IOM), Northumberland, and Yorkshire, and we are the biggest area within NFYFC England & Wales

Let me introduce you to our Lancashire Team for the year;

NA President Pamela Fawcett (ex County President and Samlesbury YFC Member)

NA Chairman Mick Handley (ex County Chairman and Slaidburn YFC Member)

NA Secretary Claire Rowlandson (ex County Competitions Secretary and Samlesbury YFC Member)

NA Treasurer Nicola Winterbottom (ex Bowland Region Treasurer and Samlesbury YFC Member)

Following on from Covid 19and the multiple lockdowns in 2020/21, the way the Northern Area Committee was run had to change with the times, and Zoom meetings became something of a norm

NORTHERN AREA COMMITTEE

As Lancashire took over the reins of Office Holders from Yorkshire, it was proposed to continue utilising Zoom for some of our meetings to help reduce travel for members, but also make it more accessible for the likes of IOM to attend

As a committee we now meet six times a year; three weeks before and three weeks after each NFYFC Council Meeting, and the AGM is held in October with County Durham n It n A & 2 e, h st ti e h e m s c g, Cheerleading, Pantomime and Sports competitions

Congratulations to Cumbria A who secured the first place spot for Top County over the weekend, and well done to Lancashire members William Leeming and

56

Meg Goring who placed second & third in Intermediate Situations Vacant, Hazel Stansfield who placed third in Senior Member of the Year and the Samlesbury Male Dodgeball Team who battled their way to second place in a very competitive game!

Moving forward into the summer months, Yorkshire FYFC hosted a jam packed NA Field Day at Darlington Auction Mart, on 25th June Members took part in everything from

stock judging the usual beef and sheep, to the more obscure guinea pigs and alpacas, as well as sheep shearing, tractor handling, farm machinery skills, baking items such as Yorkshire Growlers, Cube Exhibits, Tug of War and much, much more

The Yorkshire A Team was out in force on the day and came away with first place Top County, but it was also great to see a strong group of members who travelled across from IOM to take part in this year’s competitions

Notable mentions must go to some of our Lancashire Team, including Rob Flaherty for coming first in the Open Digger Handling Challenge, Hazel Stansfield & Tom Gardner

Stuart Hartley placing winning first in Vintage Tractor Handling,

first at Hand Sheep Shearing and the mighty Wimmarleigh Team for winning the Boat Race in record time!

In between the big events, we’ve also visited the majority of counties within Northern Area at either their AGMs or Executive Meetings, and what a great opportunity to see how other counties operate (even if it sometimes meant battling blizzards up and down the A59/M1)

Coming up we still have the NA Stockman of the Year Competition on 23rd July at Darlington Auction Mart, hosted by County Durham FYFC, and we (Lancashire) are now starting preparations to host NA Field Day 2023 and who knows, if we all put our minds (and competitive sides) to it, we could stand a good chance at walking away with the Top Overall County trophy next year!

NORTHERN AREA FIELD DAY 2022

ooooooooo This year the organizing ooooooooo committee was the Yorkshire ooooo Federation of Young Farmers' ooooIO Clubs and it was held at OOOOOHambleton, Darlington by kind OOOpermission of Darlington Farmers' OOAuction Mart

The seven Counties which make up the Northern Area County Durham, Cumbria, East Riding of Yorkshire, Isle of Man, Lancashire, Northumberland and Yorkshire had a total of thirteen teams participating, so there was plenty of activity all day, with a total of forty six classes to compete in A selection of the competitions included stock judging, floral art, tug of war, sheep shearing, thermolite block carving, cookery, farm safety, auctioneering, arts and crafts and vintage tractor and trailer handling Unfortunately, the pig judging had to be cancelled at the very last minute due to a movement license issue

To stage the Northern Area Field Day on this scale entails an enormous amount of hard work and many months of planning to ensure as much as possible the day runs smoothly, and members enjoy themselves It makes all the difference when the weather stays fine too, which it did until the last competition, when the tug of war was nearing completion The awards/presentation ceremony, planned for outside, had then to be moved to inside the cattle arena

It was pleasing to see such a high level of entries and all at an exceptionally high standard

The Lancashire members did extremely well on the day and received a very credible nineteen individual prize cards! Qualifying members go forward to represent their Counties and the Northern Area at the National finals

Without the help and encouragement of judges, stewards, scorers, livestock providers, equipment providers, the Field Day would be a non event, these people are highly valued. It really was a pleasure to attend the Field Day and partake in the prize giving alongside Mick Handley (Northern Area Chairman) and Ed Bentley (Yorkshire Federation County Chairman), and also to enjoy lunch in the Award winning Dot's cafe, with such wonderful company

Congratulations to all the Lancashire members who took part, and below you can see the top seven results for the Northern Area Earl of Derby Trophy

1st Yorkshire A 442 pts 2nd Cumbria A 418 pts 3rd Yorkshire B 413 pts

4th County Durham 404 pts 5th Lancashire A 392 pts 6th Cumbria B 349 pts

7th Lancashire B 334 pts

As I start to write this, looking back at my chairman’s challenge, I am honestly overwhelmed by the support the 4 x 4 tug of war day received It was fantastic to see past and present members come together to support ELHT&Me, a fantastic charity that is very close to my heart

I chose this charity because all funds go directly to Burnley NICU & Placenta Clinic Those who know me, will know when I was pregnant, I spent a lot of time in and out of the clinic due to having issues with my daughter Popp growing, and developing enough Fortu thanks to the fantastic support of the clin the 18th of September 2021, Poppy arrive the world fit and healthy and without need be admitted to NICU Unfortunately the

It was an honour to be elected as your President for a second year even if I did have to experience another online election due to pandemic restrictions

Despite not being able to see you all in person at this year’s Annual General Meeting, I still enjoyed chairing the event and hearing some lively debate from YFC members And such great news that you voted to extend the upper membership age by another two years even longer for people to enjoy the benefits of YFC

Being your President has extended my time in YFC just that little bit longer too, which I am extremely grateful for and especially so during the 90th year of our national federation

There are so many stories, like mine, from people whose lives have been transformed over the past nine decades, thanks to the skills and friendships they gained in YFC Long may that continue

As we look ahead, the industry faces huge challenges with changes in agricultural policy, new international trade deals and the climate change debate YFC gives the next generation the chance to get their voices heard on these issues, and I hope you all grab those opportunities with both hands Your future in agriculture counts on it

ooooo The pandemic has cast a shadow ooooo over all our lives and many of you oooooooo will have faced your own ooooooo. personal battles or tragedies ooooooooo throughout this difficult ooooooooooo period

Living remotely in rural locations has only exacerbated loneliness during lockdowns and made us all realise the importance of our YFC get togethers.

Well done to all those clubs and counties that moved activities to an online format during lockdowns, your time and creativity was a huge support to many And a big pat on the back to all those who have organised safe meetings again for their members and are encouraging more people to join (or re join) the organisation Your hard work will ensure YFC remains a constant in our lives

It is reassuring to see competition finals and training are happening in person again, social events and fundraisers are being organised, and more people are appreciating all that YFC has to offer

NFYFC might be 90, but its enthusiasm for supporting and developing rural young people has never wavered since it first began in 1932

Let’s all play our part in making YFC even bigger and better this membership year and protecting what we love for future generations
