Welcome to our Special 16th Anniversary edition of Love Fellowship Christian Center's Loving Life Newsletter! In 2022, the Year of Manifestation, we were blessed to celebrate several milestones orchestrated by God, including: Rev. Dr. T. Anthony Thompson's 16th Pastoral Anniversary (March) and Apostolic Affirmation (July); the Ordination of Elders Dixon, C. Turner, and T. Turner, and of Ministers Benn, Dorsey, and Whitfield (July); the publication of Pastor T's first book, The Pastor's Corner: Volume 1 (September); the 15th Anniversary of LFCC's Overflow Prayer Call (October); and LFCC's 16th Church Anniversary (October). Moreover, the LFCC family witnessed and experienced many miracles, signs, and wonders throughout the year.

As we close out this Year of Manifestation in 2022 and prepare for the Year of Total Recovery in 2023, we pray that the articles in this issue bring you inspiration and enlightenment. As we look to God for the Manifestation of blessings in our lives: Sister Jacqueline Meadows reminds us that nothing is too hard for God in Words of Inspiration: God is Wonderful; Brother David Greene asks us to consider how and what we are praying for in Reflecting on God's Word: What Are You Praying For - First?; Minister Porsche Dorsey encourages us to identify and pursue our passions in Motivational Minute: Your Heart's Desire; and Sister Tekia Lampkin challenges our tendency to procrastinate in A Closer Look: Why Not Now? In the Book Corner: An Interview with Dr. Jody Griffin-Anderson, author of How to Live Wholly in a Not so Holy World, and LFCC’s Exciting Entrepreneurs: An Interview with Sister Michele Rouse, two of our LFCC members talk about the Manifestation of God's will in their lives. In addition, as we have been blessed to feature LFCC Entrepreneurs throughout this year, we are pleased to publish a Directory featuring LFCC’s Exciting Entrepreneurs.

In The Pastor's Corner, our Apostolic Leader Pastor T declares 2023 as the Year of Total Recovery and explains the importance of Recovery for the Kingdom. In preparation for our Total Recovery, Sister Kim Floyd shares life-saving advice in two Health Corner features: 988 - Suicide & Crisis Lifeline and Stroke Symptoms and Prevention; and Deacon Jason Goods encourages us to improve our financial health in Dollars and Sense: 2022 Tax Law Changes Closing Gig Economy Tax Loopholes

Lastly, in A Look Ahead we present a snapshot of some of the exciting events planned for the remainder of this year and throughout 2023. As you take part in these events and as you continue to be an integral part in the fabric of the LFCC family, may God continue to bless you and your family abundantly!

God is Wonderful

Psalm 9:1 I will praise You, O Lord, with my whole heart, I will show forth (recount and tell aloud) all Your marvelous works and wonderful deeds.

In Genesis 18, Sarah laughed at the thought of having a baby in her old age and God asked Abraham a powerful question: "Is anything too hard or too wonderful for the Lord?" (Genesis18:14).

Now, that is a question we should be reminding ourselves of this very day.

With God, all things are possible (Matthew 19:26). There is nothing God cannot do. God may do it differently than we planned, and God may do it later than we planned, but God's way and God's timing are always better than anything we can imagine. God is an on time God!

Today, just take a moment and tell God, "Lord, I'm open to whatever You have for me. It may not be what I planned, and it may not happen on my timetable, but Lord I'm trusting Your perfect plan for my life. God, I refuse to give up and I choose to let go of worry, and fear. I am believing and trusting nothing is too hard or too wonderful for You!"

Your Heart's Desire

Hi there! It’s Porsche bringing you my Motivational Minute for this special 16th Anniversary Edition of the Loving Life Newsletter.

When we were young, dreaming was easy, effortless, and fun! To steal a line from Love & Basketball, " It never crossed our minds that those dreams wouldn’t come true. However, somewhere along the way we stopped believing. Life got the best of us, and we settled into mediocrity."

Well, I have one question for you, "Is God still able?"

I’m here to remind you that Yes, He is! God’s promises are "Yes" and "Amen" and He is not a man that He should lie. You are not so far away from His promise that He can’t reach down and put you right where you belong. In fact, He is a redeemer of time and can make it so that time wasted is not time lost!

With this, I implore you to carve out some time alone to sit and get in tune with your heart’s desire for the remainder of your days on earth. I can assure you that living your life each day on purpose for purpose will cause you to jump out of bed before your alarm and forget to put the coffee on! Be excited. God is bringing us to His expected end! Amen.

What Are You Praying For—First?

1 Timothy 2:1-8 (King James

I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men;2 For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. 3 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;4 Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth. 5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;6 Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.7 Whereunto I am ordained a preacher, and an apostle, (I speak the truth in Christ, and lie not;) a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and verity. 8 I will therefore that men pray everywhere, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting.

What are you praying for - First?

The word and/or version of the word “first” came up in a search result 542 times in the King James Version of the online Bible. So where are some possible beginning points when it comes to praying?

Matthew captures two key “first” verses that may be readily recognizable:

Matthew 6:33 - 33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

Jesus provides an answer to the question of what is the great commandment in the law in Matthew 22:36-40:

36 Master, which is the great commandment in the law?37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind 38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

And Paul notes the first commandment with promise in the book of Ephesians 6:1-3:

6Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right. 2 Honour thy father and mother; which is the first commandment with promise;3 That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth.

With all the turmoil and disruption that is going on around the world, and even in our own communities, this passage from the Apostle Paul’s first letter to Timothy (I Timothy 1:1-2) reminds us that God has provided a blueprint to help guide us to where to begin to pray:

I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men;2 For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.

Paul doesn’t command, but rather provides a path where he exhorts, admonishes, and urges that supplications, prayers, petitions (special requests), intercessions (prayers for others) and thanksgiving are not restricted to any one person or group.

Rather, they are for all men, as well as for kings and for all that are in authority - but for what purpose? He tells us that the answer is that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty, and notes that this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour.

So as you pray, seek, ask, and navigate through this life – reference the 20th and 21st chapters of Luke which detail Jesus teaching and preaching in the temple, providing us with insight and preparation into what is happening now, instead of being terrified (or panicked or alarmed). Below is an excerpt beginning with Luke 21:9. Notice another reference to first, and what we are to do in verse 28.

Luke 21:9-37

9 But when ye shall hear of wars and commotions, be not terrified: for these things must first come to pass; but the end is not by and by.10 Then said he unto them, Nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom:11 And great earthquakes shall be in divers places, and famines, and pestilences; and fearful sights and great signs shall there be from heaven.12 But before all these, they shall lay their hands on you, and persecute you, delivering you up to the synagogues, and into prisons, being brought before kings and rulers for my name's sake.13 And it shall turn to you for a testimony.14 Settle it therefore in your hearts, not to meditate before what ye shall answer:15 For I will give you a mouth and wisdom, which all your adversaries shall not be able to gainsay nor resist.16 And ye shall be betrayed both by parents, and brethren, and kinsfolks, and friends; and some of you shall they cause to be put to death.17 And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake.18 But there shall not an hair of your head perish.19 In your patience possess ye your souls. 20 And when ye shall see Jerusalem compassed with armies, then know that the desolation thereof is nigh. 21 Then let them which are in Judaea flee to the mountains; and let them which are in the midst of it depart out; and let not them that are in the countries enter thereinto. 22 For these be the days of vengeance, that all things which are written may be fulfilled. 23 But woe unto them that are with child, and to them that give suck, in those days! for there shall be great distress in the land, and wrath upon this people. 24 And they shall fall by the edge of the sword, and shall be led away captive into all nations: and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled. 25 And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring;26 Men's hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken. 27 And then shall they see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. 28 And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.29 And he spake to them a parable; Behold the fig tree, and all the trees;30 When they now shoot forth, ye see and know of your own selves that summer is now nigh at hand. 31 So likewise ye, when ye see these things come to pass, know ye that the kingdom of God is nigh at hand. 32 Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass away, till all be fulfilled. 33 Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away. 34 And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares. 35 For as a snare shall it come on all them that dwell on the face of the whole earth. 36 Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man. 37 And in the day time he was teaching in the temple; and at night he went out, and abode in the mount that is called the mount of Olives.

REFLECTING ON GOD'S WORD

Why Not Now?

An Interview with Dr. Jody Griffin-Anderson

Author of How to Live Wholly in a Not so Holy World

From time to time, we all suffer from a spirit of procrastination. Lack of motivation to get things done may be based on disliking the task at hand, fear, anxiety or simply where the task falls on one’s priority list. It may even come down to lack of confidence in ourselves and our ability to step outside of our comfort zone and take a risk. We may be terrified to sing karaoke or doubt that we have what it takes to get the business off the ground. We build up this huge, overwhelming idea of what the task entails or get wrapped up in the fear of failure. If left too long before being resolved, this fear can become crippling and the ‘thing’ itself practically insurmountable.

But how much time do we waste being fearful and making excuses, instead of just getting the ‘thing’ done? Instead of pushing off difficult responsibilities or challenging opportunities, why don’t we just get them done? Instead of tomorrow, next week, or next month, why not now?

For example, the hardest part of writing is getting started. One can have an outline, know what happens in the middle or the end of their story but struggle with finding the right words to begin. However, once words are put on a page and start flowing, the work gets done. The piece takes shape, the beginning connects with the middle which connects with the end. Before you know it, the story is finished. What once was an intimidating project that caused the writer such angst is a finished book that the author can take pride in.

Even if it’s just cleaning out your closet or organizing your pantry, once you get your ‘thing’ done, you will look back and wonder why it took you so long. The sense of satisfaction you will feel afterwards will be well worth putting in the work.

So, I challenge you to get your ‘thing’ done. Start on it, finish it, speak life into it, pray over it. Push past the fear associated with it. We are not granted tomorrow, so why not now?

‘Don’t put it off, do it now! Don’t rest until you do.’ (Proverbs 6:4 NLT)

Q: Please tell us about your new publication, How to Live Wholly in a Not so Holy World. What is it about?

A: My new book is a testimony of my life and is designed to help individuals navigate through life when the road gets hard. Learning how to be holy and do things God’s way is key to our success as we ultimately experience his grace and mercy along the way.

Q: What prompted you to write this book? Why did you write it at this particular time?

A: The Holy Spirit showed me many years ago that I would write a book but never gave me a specific time to complete it. I continued to write it over the course of time and often paused until I received more clarification from the Lord and guidance. I realized that things were constantly changing in my life and knew the Lord was very particular about what He wanted me to share. Finally, the time came where He told me to wrap things up and get the book ready for publishing for such a time as this.

Q: What message do you hope to share with the readers?

A: I would like to share with my readers of this book that God can use you at whatever stage you are in your walk with him. Once you commit yourself to the Lord, He will take you by the hand and get you through this thing called “life” by equipping you with his supernatural provision, blessings, and favor.

Q: How do you believe that reading the book will help them?

A: I believe this will help the readers by providing them with a tangible life experience from someone who has lived through many trials and tribulations while trusting the Lord with her whole heart. It provides evidence of what the Lord can do for those that trust him and place their faith in Jesus.

Q: What do you believe are the biggest challenges facing Christians today?

A: I think some of the challenges that Christians face today are persevering until the very end. With so much going on in the world and the many changes we see, it makes it more challenging for many saints that may not be as rooted and grounded spiritually in the word. Some churches have even changed their stance on matters such as watering down the Word of God. This is a huge injustice for the upcoming saints of God

Q: What are some takeaways from your book that you believe will help Christians face, and overcome, such challenges?

A: Some of the takeaways are basically just to keep the Lord first in everything you do, aways trust Him with your whole life, always strive to live a holy life because the Lord is Holy, allow yourself some room for growth and improvement (don’t beat yourself up too much, repent and trust God to help you move on), and most importantly, study the Word of God to show thyself approved!

Q: What is your message to the LFCC family as we prepare to close out this Year of Manifestation, and move into our Year of Recovery?

A: As we come to a close in 2022 (seems so sudden), we should be reminded that the things of God will continue to manifest and will aid/ result in our recovery! Many of us have lost so much but all things restored happen in the spirit first and manifest in the natural. We will then see much recovery in 2023 as we keep our eyes continuously focused on the Lord. God bless LFCC!

An Interview with Sister Michele Rouse Directory

Q: What is the name of your business? When was your business established?

A: The Orchid Experience, it was established in 2021.

Q: Tell us about the goods and/or services that you provide.

A: The Orchid Experience is a full-service travel planning company. I plan all aspects of the client’s travel, while offering amazing customer service. I like to refer to myself as your “travel concierge.”

Q: What led or prompted you to start your own business?

A: Growing up, we used to travel a lot with my parents and grandparents. I wanted to take those memories and create amazing travel experiences for my clients. My grandparents used to grow orchids, so the name of my company is a tribute to them. My goal is to create a company that will be a legacy for my children and grandchildren.

Q: What advice do you have for those who have just started, or who are about to start, their own businesses?

A: I have several suggestions:

Join groups, and associations in the industry that you are in. It’s so very helpful to have a group that you can bounce ideas off of and get great advice.

Find a mentor. The help and support a mentor can provide are invaluable.

Don’t compare the growth of your business to anyone else’s. It’s easy to get discouraged when you see how well another person’s business is doing.

A new business takes several years to be truly successful. My grandmother’s favorite saying was “Only a grave digger starts on top!” Trust God that your business will grow exactly how God has ordained it. (I’m still trying not to compare!)

Take advantage of any trainings that are offered for your specialty in your down time - train, train, and train some more.

Always remember why you started!

Q: What are some of the challenges that you have faced along the way?

A: Some of the challenges that I have faced are making myself visible and marketing. Growing my client base has been slow, but I must remember my company is still young.

Q: How has your faith in God impacted you as a business owner?

A: When I get discouraged, I have to remember that God put this vision in my head, and I need to trust Him each step of the way. I put my faith in Him and put the work in to make Him proud.

Q: How can the LFCC family support your business?

A: Follow me on all platforms, FB, IG,(Tik-Tok coming soon!) and visit my website. If you have an idea for a trip you’re interested in, don’t hesitate to reach out to me and let’s see what I can do!

We boldly and faithfully declare that 2023 is the year of TOTAL RECOVERY!

Joel 2:25-27 establishes the biblical standard that sets the tone for next year.

As God releases the spirit of recovery in our lives, everything lost will be restored, everything damaged will be repaired, and we will rejoice!

• We have been redeemed and anointed for the glory of God to fulfill our purpose and potential.

• We have been released to be change agents and to walk into the direction of our destiny to be Dynamic Disciples.

As your Apostolic leader, I encourage you to Watch GOD do miracles as we position ourselves for TOTAL RECOVERY. We anticipate acceleration and restoration in every area of our lives because we are children of the Most-High God. Normal processes, negativity, and naysayers will not stop us from reaching our purpose and potential because this year, WE SHALL recover it all.

TOTAL RECOVERY means:

• We will be in position to create opportunities for others and to advance the Kingdom of GOD through LOVEone person, one family, and one community at a time.

• We will have no lack and GOD will supply all our needs.

• Everything the enemy stole shall, and will be, received and restored in Jesus' NAME.

We believe this season of recovery will propel us, our family, our church, and our leadership into new levels of grace and favor.

988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline Stroke Symptoms & Prevention

Great news! There is now an expanded network of centers to help people in emotional distress or experiencing a mental health crisis.

If you or someone you know is experiencing a:

• mental health crisis

• suicide-related crisis

• substance-use crisis

Call or Text 988 to reach the National Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. You can also chat online at 988lifeline.org for support.

Dialing 988 provides a direct connection to free, confidential, mental health crisis resources for anyone: experiencing a mental health or substance use crisis, having thoughts of suicide, or having concerns about someone who may need crisis support.

The 988 phone line operates out of the existing National Suicide Prevention Lifeline, which has been strengthened and expanded around the country with more than 200 local, independent, and state-funded crisis centers.

Suicide was a leading cause of death for people ages 10 to 34 years in 2020, according to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). Moreover, from April 2020 to 2021, over 100,000 individuals died from drug overdoses in the U.S.

Dialing 988 serves as a single-entry point so that no matter where you live in the United States, you can reach a trained crisis counselor who can help in a time of mental and emotional distress.

• Call or text: 988

• Chat online: 988lifeline.org

Most people know that chest pain is a sign of a heart attack and a reason to quickly dial 911. Fewer men and women know that a fast response is just as critical if you have any signs of a stroke. A stroke is essentially a “heart attack” in the brain, as brain tissue dies with every passing minute. Although it’s often painless, a stroke can cause permanent damage or even death, which is why it is important to get to the hospital without delay.

TIME IS BRAIN

A stroke is caused by either loss of blood flow (ischemic stroke) or blood accumulating where it doesn’t belong (hemorrhagic stroke). The moment this occurs, brain tissue begins to die rapidly. Because it happens so suddenly, people don’t always know it’s happening. Healthcare providers use the phrase “time is brain” to emphasize that every minute counts when it comes to getting treatment. The earlier you can receive treatment; the more brain cells can be saved, and the less damage is experienced neurologically. Therefore, call 911 as soon as you notice any warning signs.

REMEMBER THAT PREVENTION IS ALWAYS BETTER THAN TREATMENT

A stroke can happen to anyone regardless of age or gender. But there are certain factors that increase your chances of experiencing a stroke. If you have experienced a stroke, you have a higher risk of having another one in the future. Remember, you can reduce your risk of having a stroke by making healthy choices and controlling any health conditions you may have. Many strokes are prevented through healthy lifestyle changes and working with your health care team to control health conditions that raise your risk for stroke.

WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS OF A STROKE?

The acronym B.E. F.A.S.T. is used to identify symptoms of a stroke. Call 911 if you notice any of the following:

Balance

Changes in your coordination or difficulty walking due to dizziness or weakness

Eyes: Visual impairments in one or both eyes

Face: Drooping on one or both sides

Arms: Weakness to either extremity

Speech: Difficulty communicating, such as slurred speech or struggling to articulate your words or understand others

Time: Call 911 immediately and get to a hospital right away for life-saving treatment

Even if your symptoms subside within five minutes, it’s important to seek prompt care.

2022 Tax Law Changes

Gig Economy (n.)

A labor market characterized by the prevalence of short-term contracts or freelance work as opposed to permanent jobs.”

In 2021, it is estimated that the Gig Economy employed 57.3 million individuals or 36% of US workforce. Furthermore, 29% of the US workforce reports having an additional job outside of their primary job. (Source: TeamStage)

A December 2020 Harris Poll estimated that 34% of Americans had a side-hustle in 2020. That same poll estimated that nearly 61 million or 24% of Americans planned to start a side-hustle in 2021. Most side-hustles can be grouped into three primary categories, including: monetized hobbies, side jobs that help people pay down debt, or a job that is needed to cover normal expenses. While the advent of ride-sharing and food delivery apps has popularized the term "side-hustle," its origins date back to the 1950’s. The side-hustle has persisted as a source of supplemental income to generations of Americans.

Side-Hustle

(n.)

Work performed for income supplementary to one’s primary job.”

Prior to its current iteration, income from aside-hustle was often referred to as “under-the-table” or “on-the-side." Side-hustle has a significantly more glamorous connotation!

Technological advances through mobile payment platforms such as PayPal, Venmo, Zelle, and CashApp has further increased the popularity, profitability, and ease of operating the side-hustle.

The vast amount of commerce conducted through these apps have also exposed the financial legitimacy of the side-hustles that comprise the emerging Gig Economy and have become a new favorite target of the IRS and state tax agencies.

Prior to 2022, many side-hustles were largely regarded as a “tax-free comeup." While the earnings from these “independent ventures” have always been reportable as taxable income, most of this“income”rarely made it to any line of the 1040!

As of January 1, 2022, the side-hustle tax loophole has tightened considerably. The previous reporting requirement for 1099-Ks was 200 individual credit card transactions or $20,000. Mobile payment apps are now required to report annual earnings exceeding $600 on Form 1099-K.

These tax law changes become effective on your 2022 tax returns. The excerpt below outlines the IRS guidance as it relates to Gig Economy income.

Additionally, there is helpful information related to making quarterly estimated payments. This is applicable to individuals categorized as independent contractors who do not receive a W-2 from their employer, but receive 1099-Misc forms instead. Failure to make estimated payments throughout the year typically results in an unpleasant surprise when filing your tax returns!

Source: Taxpayers must report gig economy earnings when filing taxes | Internal Revenue Service (irs.gov)

HERE ARE SOME THINGS GIG WORKERS SHOULD KEEP IN MIND.

Gig work is taxable:

• Earnings from Gig Economy work is taxable, regardless of whether an individual receives information returns. The reporting requirement for issuance of Form 1099-K changed for payments received in 2022 to totals exceeding $600, regardless of the total number of transactions. This means that some gig workers will now receive an information return. This is true even if the work is full-time, part-time or if an individual is paid in cash.

• Gig workers may also be required to make quarterly estimated income tax payments and pay their share of Social Security and Medicare taxes.

Pay the right amount of taxes throughout the year:

• An employer typically withholds income taxes from their employees' pay to help cover income taxes their employees owe.

• Gig economy workers who are not considered employees have two ways to cover their income taxes:

• Submit a new Form W-4 to their employer to have more income taxes withheld from their paycheck, if they have another job as an employee.

• Make quarterly estimated tax payments to help pay their income taxes throughout the year, including self-employment tax.

The Gig Economy Tax Center on IRS.gov answers questions and helps gig economy taxpayers understand their tax responsibilities.
