Janice E. Anderson, 90, of Lewistown, peacefully entered into the presence of her Lord and Savior on Thursday, Feb. 6, 2025, at Greenwood Village.
Born on Nov. 19, 1934, in Lewistown, she was the beloved daughter of the late John and Mary (Snook) Van Scyoc. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fern N. Anderson, as well as her son, Brian Anderson.
Janice leaves behind
a legacy of love through her children: Barb Kauffman and husband, Jim, of Lewistown; Lynn Neidigh and husband, Dan, of Blanchard; Sherry Haller and husband, Steve, of Leesport; and David Anderson and companion, Scott McTavish, of Lewistown. She was a cher-
grandchildren and a proud great-grandmother to two.
She is also survived by her dear sister, Marcia Greene and husband, John, of Enola.
A gifted seamstress, Janice honed her craft while working at Ruhl’s Clothing Store before establishing Jan’s Sewing and Alterations, where she served her community
with skill and dedication for many years. A woman of deep faith, she was a devoted member of Pine Glen Church of the Brethren, where she found joy in fellowship and was an active participant in the church’s sewing circle. Services will be private and held at the convenience of the family.

Gale Lynn Brower, 70, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2025 surrounded by her loved ones. She was born on Sept. 13, 1954 in Lewistown to the late Barbara E. (Tate) and George W. Lilley, Sr.
She was a proud graduate of Penn State University with her Associate in Sociology.

Gale kept her hands busy with various crafting projects that included painting and sewing and spending time in her garden. She was a part of the Lewistown Community Garden Club, planting in the plots at the local library and winning an achievement award for her
Library was a favorite spot for her to explore and read new books. Gale frequently attended live concerts and loved to visit State Parks. She was always stargazing and walking in the mountains. During the holidays, she made a variety of candies to enjoy with her family.

Wayne was a 1971 graduate of Kishacoquillas High School. He was a mechanic for UPS who retired after 40 years of service. He was a hard worker, and a jack of all trades. Most of his free time was spent in friends and family. He enjoyed watching NASCAR races, having karaoke parties, working on outside projects, and spending time with his family.

After gaining experience in a local family-owned men’s clothing store in Indiana, she went to work for The Oak Tree, a men’s clothing store in Pittsburgh. After several years with them, she went to work for TJ Maxx. She worked her way up from a salesperson to assistant
store manager to store manager at various locations in the Pittsburgh area. She then worked at one of their stores in New York City before moving to St. Louis to become one of their fashion merchandisers.
Because she wanted to move to be closer to family, she decided to accept a position as store manager in Frederick, MD, before eventually moving even closer to be the store manager in Mechanicsburg. After many years with TJ Maxx, she made a career switch to accept a position at Youth Advocate Program (YAP). She worked in many capacities with theiring up as Board Liaison and Travel Assistant for their board of directors before her passing.
A service of celebration was to be held at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Lewistown at 120 N. Main Street at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 15. A luncheon was to be served immediately after the service at the church for those in attendance.

Clare Ann (Rhoades) Gilbert, 84, of Reedsville, passed away on Monday, Feb. 10, 2025 at home. She was born on Sept. 26, 1940 in Reedsville, to the late Frank L. and Rosetta M. (Conaway) Rhoades. On Feb. 9, 1960, she married John A.C. Gilbert, who survives at their home.

She graduated from Armagh-Brown High School in 1958. Over the years, she worked for American Viscose Corp, J & D Bus Company, Fishers Brothers Bus Company, and was co-owner of Gilbert’s Truck Repair, Milroy. In between jobs, she served as a homemaker.
She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, in organist and pianist at the church, and also served on church council.
She enjoyed sketching and painting and even attended Penn State for a semester studying graphic design. She enjoyed reading the Bible and sharing her walk with God. Most of all she loved spending time with her family.

He loved to travel with his wife and took many
special trips with family and friends. He especially liked trips on the motorcycle and trips out west. He loved his time out to eat with friends, and his mornings spent with the guys at the coffee shops.

He was born on Feb. 21, 1940, in Lewistown, to the late George W. Hannon and Miriam (Bowersox) Hannon Richard. On Feb. 22, 1963, he married Nancy J. (Fultz) Hannon, who survives.

Millard R. Hartzler, 76, of 79 Brookfarm Drive, Belleville, passed away on Monday, Feb. 10, 2025, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
He was born on April 21, 1948 in Mill Creek, to the late Glen and Alta (Hartzler) Hartzler. On June 14, 1969, he married Arlene E. Hartzler, who preceded him in death on June 8, 2018.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a brother-inlaw, Fred Walters; sister-inlaw, Laurie Spicher; and brother, Loren W. Hartzler, on Feb. 7, 2025. He graduated from
Huntingdon High School. He was an over-the-road truck driver for several different companies, and lastly, he drove for Fed Ex, where he spent 14 years team trucking with his wife, Arlene, until their retirement in January 2017. Following retirement, he enjoyed hauling the local amish.
He was a “charter member” of the Upper Room Coffee Shop, where he gathered with local friends each morning during the week. He also enjoyed his Wednesday morning breakfast and gathering sessions at the salebarn, as well as Michele’s OIP in Reedsville. He was a storyteller. He loved socializing and would often take people to lunch after church, and he would never let the single ladies pay for their lunch. He loved traveling, with Alaska being one of his favorite trips.

Fern A. (Kauffman) Hartzler, 92, of Valley View Haven, Belleville, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2025.
She was born on April 24, 1932, to the late Alden J. and Sadie (Hartzler) Kauffman. On May 14, 1955, she married Lee M. Hartzler, who preceded her in death on July 10, 2020.
Surviving are children: LeAnn Hartzler of Belleville, Gene L. Hartzler and wife Esther of Mount Pleasant, Pa.; grandchildren: Josiah E. Hartzler and wife, Leah of Greensburg, Pa. and their son, Noah Hartzler; Gabriel L. Hartzler and wife Anna of Columbus, Ohio; siblings: Betty Yoder of Belleville, Esther Kauffman and husband John of Belleville, brother-in-law: Kenneth Hartzler and wife Betty of Belleville; sister-in-law: Kathleen Chambers and husband Frank, of Lewistown.

She graduated from Belleville High School and was employed at Valley View Haven as a receptionist for a number of years.
She was a member of Maple Grove Mennonite Church, where she taught Sunday school for many years and was part of the ladies choir. In earlier years, she was involved with the Fresh Air Fund, where she made trips to New York to escort children back to the valley for a summer stay. She taught and enjoyed making ceramics and sharing that hobby with others. She enjoyed watching and supporting her son and grandsons sporting events. She enjoyed going on trips to Myrtle Beach with her sisters.

Evelyn M. Heister, 91, of Manheim, formerly of
County, went home to be with her Lord on Monday evening, Feb. 24, 2025 at Pleasant View Retirement Community in Manheim. Born in Hamlin, Kan., she was the daughter of the late Milton and Ethel Engle Byer. She was the wife of Orville P. Heister for 67 years prior to his passing in 2024. While living in Lancaster County, Evelyn was a member of Cross Roads Brethren in Christ Church in Mount Joy. She was a former member of Cedar Grove Brethren in Christ where she sang in the choir.
Evelyn and Orville met when they were each attending Messiah Academy in Grantham. After graduating from the academy, she continued her education by attending Messiah College. Evelyn remained a stay-at-home mother until her children were older. She then worked as
a housekeeper at Willow Valley Resort. After she and Orville retired, they returned to Mattawana and bought a small farm. She then worked part-time in the laundry at Valley View Retirement Community in Belleville.
Evelyn and Orville eventually moved back to Lancaster County and settled in Mount Joy so that they would be closer to family. Evelyn was an accomplished seamstress and made many wedding gowns for brides. She also enjoyed putting jigsaw puzzles together and had an extensive collection of roosters.
She is survived by two children, Linda Tomlinson and Curtis, husband of Barbara Fasnacht Heister, both of Lancaster; three grandchildren, Vanessa Heaps, Camryn Heister, and Logan Heister; and three great grandchildren, Dominick, Mia, and Dante. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Ann Ginder.
A memorial service was to be held on Saturday morning, March 8, 2025 at 11 a.m. at Cross Roads Brethren in Christ Church, 800 Donegal Springs Road, Mount Joy, PA. There will be no public viewing. The family was to receive guests at the church on Saturday morning from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. All are invited to a luncheon at the church immediately following the service. Private interment will be in Pleasant View Cemetery, Mattawana, PA.

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Connie Jo Haubrick, age 72, of Lewistown. Connie Jo peacefully passed away on Monday, Feb. 24, 2025, at Geisinger-Lewistown Hospital.
Born on Dec. 31, 1952, in Lewistown, she was the daughter of the late Russell ‘Scoot’ Brannon and Wanda G. (Royer) Brannon.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Haubrick; and a companion, Thomas St. John.
She is survived by her children, Holly Sweitzer, of Lewistown, Scott Brannon and companion, Carolyn Ross, of Lewistown, and Daniel Brannon and wife, Angela, of Burnham; step-children, Albert Haubrick Jr., of Lewistown, and Dave Haubrick and wife, Michelle, of McVeytown; grandchildren, Jasmine, Jada, and Liam

Connie Jo was a 1971 graduate of Penn Highlands High School.
Throughout her life, she demonstrated a strong work ethic, working beside her mother at Brannon’s Ceramic Shop and later dedicating herself to caring for others as a caregiver at William Penn and in home healthcare.
Her interests were varied, encompassing crafting in her earlier years and the enjoyment of going to auctions later in life. Connie loved spending time with her family . She loved cooking for and celebrating life events with them. She loved a good party!

John C. Hostetler, 51, of

He was born Sept. 9, 1973, in Juniata County, a son of Sarah K. (Speicher) Hostetler and the late Joseph M. Hostetler. He was married to the former Laura Peachey, who survives.
John enjoyed breaking and riding horses, hunting car rides and camping in the mountains and spending time with his family.
His time here on earth was cut short and he will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Born May 18, 1955, in Providence, R.I., he was a son of the late Donald R. and Lois M. (Gingerich) Hutchison. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Mark Hutchison, and brother-in-law, Richard Boaz.
Philip is survived by: his wife of 47 years, Brenda (Forshey) Hutchison; children, Casi Hutchison,
and Kevin Hutchison and wife, Dara, both of Lewistown; three grandchildren, Adriyanna Hutchison, Miley Knepp, and Zaymon Hutchison; and mother-in-law, Rose Forshey, of Lewistown.
He was a graduate of Juniata High School, Class of 1973, and a U.S. Marine Corps veteran.
Philip was employed as a cab driver in his earlier years, by Mann Edge Tool Company for 14 years before their closing, and lastly, at New Holland in Belleville before retiring. After retirement, he soldworks as a tent vendor, which he thoroughly enjoyed.
Philip’s grandchildren were his pride and joy and he always attended as many recitals and ball games as he could. He was a dedicated sports fan and especially loved watching Penn State, Steelers, and the Phillies.

Lucy Jane (North) Hackenberg, 84, of Duncansville, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 23, 2025.
She was born on March 31, 1940 in Lewistown, to the late James W. North, Sr. and Elizabeth Jane (Shannon) North. On Sept. 10, 1960, she married Charles Ray Hackenberg, who preceded her in death on May 6, 2021.
She is survived by children: Thomas Ray Hackenberg and wife, Christine, of Richmond, Va., Jeffrey Alan Hackenberg and wife, Andrea, of Bellefonte, and Debra Jane Speece and husband, Ryan, of Altoona; nine grandchildren: Katelyn Ziolkowski (Paul), Brittany Mantiply (Matt), Alexandra Wagner (Matt), Madison Mullins (Jeremy Roscher), Cassidy Hackenberg, Joshua Hackenberg, Samantha Hackenberg, Hayden Speece, and Joseph Speece; 10 great-grand-

Lucy was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Hollidaysburg. She enjoyed music, going to concerts, bowling, traveling and especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her quick wit and sarcasm will be missed by her family.

Robert R. “Rob” Hackenberger IV, 54, formerly of Mexico, Pa., passed away Sunday, Feb. 9, 2025, at his surrounded by his loving family.
Born Jan. 26, 1971, in Lewistown, he was a son of Judy (Swailes) Zimmerman and the late Robert R. “Ham” Hackenberger III.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Rhonda E. Bell, two children, Kala Smith and Drew R. Hackenberger and companion, Tori Kuhn, three grandchildren, Jacee Price, Heeth Smith, and Willow Hackenberger, and many special friends.
He worked for Asplundh Tree Service for more than 30 years and was a member of the Owls Club in Lewistown.
He loved riding his Harley Davidson motorcycles, playing guitar, camping at Raystown, and playing pool at the Owls Club. His family was very important to him.

Sharon Elaine Klinger, 78, of Lewistown, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 1, 2025 at Geisinger Lewistown Hospital with family at her side. She was born on Oct. 29, 1946 in Lewistown to the late Raymond J. and Eleanor M. (Habbershon) Miller.

Deborah Kline, formerly of Newport, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in the early morning hours on Friday, Feb. 14th, following a multi-year battle with cancer and other health issues.
Deb (or Grammy as she was affectionately known by her family) was born in Lewistown, PA in 1948 to Guy Richard and Evelyn Moyer Lindenberger. She had two younger brothers, Dwight and Guy Richard II, who managed to keep her on her toes and provided no shortage of colorful anecdotes that were shared throughout the years in various family holiday and picnic gatherings. Sheversity where she earned her degree in Education, devoting most of her professional years to teaching at the elementary school level and after school programs.
She married Michael Kline on July 24, 1971 and soon after welcomed two children into the world, Michelle and Jason, deciding to take a break from her teaching profession to devote herself to raising her children. Her family moved to Newport in Nov. 1985 where she spent the remaining 40 years of her life.
Deb was an active member in her local church, Hilltop Christian Church, participating in various
ministries, including teaching children’s church and singing in the church choir. She spent the bulk of her years enjoying time with her family and caring for her mother, setting a wonderful example of
many ways the qualities laid out in Proverbs 31.
She was preceded in death by her father, husband, brothers, and her mother who passed four months ago just shy of her 101st birthday. She is survived by all of her children and grandchildren - Tim & Michelle Jordan with their two sons Alex and Connor, and Jason & Sarah Kline with their son Evan and daughters Emma and Gabbi.
A visitation was to be held on Friday evening, Feb. 28th from 5 - 7PM at Hilltop Christian Church (721 Hillcrest Drive, Newport, PA). Born Aug. 17, 1932, Orbisonia, daughter of the late Clair M. and Marjorie Mae (Walls) Love. Preceded in death by her loving husband, Gerald D. Lukens Jr., whom she married on Valentines Day 1953. Deborah is survived by her devoted husband of 57 years, Donald E. McCoy, with whom she shared a lifetime of love and memories since their marriage on Nov. 16, 1967. She will be deeply missed by her daughter, Dawn Lyter and husband, Ronald, her son, Craig McCoy, and Jennifer and Charles Harmon, each of whom she loved unconditionally and supported with unwavering devotion. As a mother, Deborah was a source of endless encouragement, wisdom, and warmth. She celebrated her children’s achievements, guided them through life’s challenges, and embraced every moment with them with a heart full of love. Her greatest joy, however, came from being a grandmother and great-grandmother. She

Whether she was attending school events, baking their favorite treats, or simply listening to their stories, Deborah made each grandchild feel uniquely special and deeply loved. She was their biggest cheerleader, their comforting presence, and a constant source of kindness and wisdom.

Born Nov. 3, 1920, in Licking Creek, Juniata County, she was the daughter of the late John C. and Mary (Amey) Stine.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded by her husband, Paul L. Nepper of 32 years; a son, Dale E. Nepper; brother, Charles A. Stine, and a sister, Beulah E. Nipple.

Helen was a lifelong member of Yeagertown
United Methodist Church, where she was a member since 1943. She was a communion steward, and president of the United Methodist Women.
She graduated from Fayette High School, Class of 1939.
In her earlier years, she worked as a secretary for the United Steelworker’s Union and later at G.C. Murphy store, where she retired in 1986.
She enjoyed reading, traveling and picnics with her family. She especially enjoyed the holidays with her son and nephew, Reno Nipple and family in Port Royal.

James K. “Jim” Peachey, 72, of Reedsville, peacefully passed away at his home on Saturday, Feb. 8, 2025 surrounded by his family.
Born on March 14, 1952, in Lewistown, he was the son of the late Melvin A. and Martina M. (Smith) Peachey. In addition to his parents, he was prewife, Catherine (Shank) Peachey.
A proud veteran, Jim honorably served in the United States Air Force, a testament to his unwavering commitment to duty and country. He attended Kish Valley Grace Brethren Church in Reedsville, Earlier in life, he was employed as a truck driver for various companies, later lending his expertise as a dispatcher at Metzler’s Forest Products in Reedsville. His commitment to service extended to his role as a Supervisor of Brown Township, where he worked tirelessly to
better the lives of those around him.
Jim is lovingly survived by his wife, Jan (Ferguson) Peachey; his step-son, Lucas Bobb of Cortland, NY; his daughters, Jessica Goss and husband Eric, of Milroy and Jennifer Hartzler and husband, Cheston, of Belleville; and his son, Ian Peachey and wife, Abby, of Reedsville. Lamar Richard, 65, of Lewistown passed into God’s hands on Feb. 20, 2025 at Geisinger Lewistown Hospital.
He is survived by his wife, Tammy; son Seth; daughter in-law, Danielle; and the lights of his life Alya, Alexa, and Ace, his grandchildren. He also leaves behind his best friend Kiki, his dog. He is also survived by his sister, Sandra Wagner.
Charles L. Royer, 88, of Belleville, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 15, 2025, at Valley View Haven. He was born on Sept. 23, 1936, in Barrville, to the late William F. and Stella W. (Fye) Royer. In December, 1956, he married Kay D. (Laub) Royer, who preceded him in death in Sept., 2010. Sheldon L. Romig Sr., 82, of McClure, passed away Sunday, Feb. 16, 2025, at William Penn Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.
Born July 9, 1942, in McClure, he was the son of the late Hurley and Dorothy (Himes) Romig. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Leonard Romig.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra L. (Mowery) Romig, whom he married Feb. 17, 2008; children, Sandy Fellows and husband, John, of Lewistown, Shelby Wagner and husband, Sid, of Kramer, Sheldon L. Romig Jr., of McClure, Shawn Romig, of VA; step-daughters, Michelle Arnold and husband, Steve, and Nicole

He was a lifetime member of Decatur Sportsman’s Club. He was a member of the All American Cruisers.
Sheldon worked at American Hickory making axe handles, where he later retired.
He loved to go to car shows and take his 1955 Ford Crown Victoria. He enjoyed going for mountain rides. Sheldon enjoyed being outside doing yard work, and going hunt-
going out to eat especially for breakfast and he would talk to anyone!

Walter Sheldon “Shell” Spickler, 77, passed away on Feb. 6, 2025, in Lewistown.
Born July 15, 1947 to the late Walter E. and Helen M. Spickler, of McVeytown. Walter graduated from Rothrock Area High School in 1965 and continued his education at Thompson Institute. He served both full and part-time in the National Guard in Pennsylvania and Florida. With more than 20 years dedicated military service, Walter retired in 1989 from the HHC, 728th Main Support Battalion in Lock Haven.
Beyond his military career, Walter also spent more than 30 years as a truck driver. Walter founding and he enjoyed playing music in various bands. Walter is survived by his brother, Ron Spickler and wife, Betty; his son, William and wife, Ann; grandchildren Brenden, Benjamin, and Makenna; a daughter, Michelle, and grandchildren Elizabeth, RJ, Alexandra, and Katelynn; and a daughter, Jeanna, and grandchildren Kylie, Piper, and John Patrick. He was preceeded in death by his brother, P. Keith Spickler and sisters, Linda (Spickler) Fisher and Brenda (Spickler) Swigart. He was also blessed by nieces and nephews, too numerous to count, who remember him fondly.

Allen was a lifelong gardener and enjoyed family gatherings, a game of Rook, a libation, and conversations of the past. Allen was a ‘Christmas baby’, and ‘a left hander’ with a strong memory for dates and names. His ability to connect with people through empathy and compassion allowed him to secure many long term friendships. Nancy Wensel Williams, 84, of Boalsburg, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Feb. 1, 2025, at Winter Haven Hospital in Florida, surrounded by loved ones.
Born on Aug. 27, 1940, in Roaring Spring, Nancy was the daughter of the late Clarence W. and Lois Eugenia (Maxwell) Wensel, Jr. On February 11, 1960, she married the love of her life, James Lee Williams, with whom she shared 64 wonderful years of marriage.
Nancy’s greatest joy was her family. She is survived by her devoted husband, James, and their four children: Vicki Janota and her husband Curt of Derwood, MD; Wendy Franklin of Pennsylvania Furnace;
Lori Miller and her husband Chris of Middletown; and Scott Williams and his wife Amy of State College. She also leaves behind her beloved siblings, John Wensel of Winter Haven, FL, and Lois Jeanne Marchak and her husband Myron of Milton, DE and many nieces and nephews. Nancy was a proud grandmother to eight grandchildren and a doting great-grandmother to four great-grandchildren, all of whom brought her endless happiness.
A graduate of Shamokin Area High School (Class of 1958) and the Polyclinic Hospital School of Nursing (Class of 1961), Nancy career as a Registered Nurse. She dedicated her skills and compassion to the State College OBGYN group and later to the Harrisburg Urological Group in Camp Hill, where she made a lasting impact on countless patients before retiring on January 1, 1998.
Nancy’s faith was a guiding light in her life. She was a devoted pastor’s wife serving many different Methodist churches that her husband served and later a member of Mount Nittany United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir and found joy in serving her church community. She also volunteered with
RSVP and at Mount Nittany Medical Center, always looking for ways to give back. As a snow bird, Nancy spent the winters in Florida for 25 years where she volunteered with the Citizens Assisted Patrol System. An avid crafter, she enjoyed creating handmade treasures, but her greatest passion was spending time with her family—sharing stories, laughter, and love.

Lila Jane Cowder Warner, born on Jan. 20, 1927, went home to be with the Lord and Savior on Feb. 9, 2025 from her home in Aydlett, N.C.
She was preced ed in death by her husband, Earl Warner, her son, Steven Warner, and grandson, John Kruse. Lila leaves behind three children, Johnn Marie Warner (Kruse), Michael Warner, and Beth Warner (Madden), along with four grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandson.
She was born in Lewistown to Amy and Wilbur Cowder where she graduated from nursing school, and worked in Lewistown Hospital for many years.
