It may be cold and blustery when you get this catalog, but spring is just on the horizon. To freshen up your yard for your family’s personal pleasure or to get your place in shape to sell, check out our new lineup of Gardening and Landscaping classes. Also new this spring, we are offering literary skills development if your elementary school–age child is struggling or behind with reading and comprehension. “Ready, Set, Read!” features one–on–one reading improvement sessions where your child will be assessed and his or her unique needs identified, and then will have the undivided attention and support of a highly trained reading specialist. As with our previous catalog, this one is focused on the personal enrichment workshops that can help you and your family stay healthy, have fun and try new hobbies. They are useful and interesting classes without the work or worry that academic credit entails. We have not dropped any of our business, industry and safety courses. Corporate & Community Learning still has a complete curriculum of business education and training to increase office skills and effectiveness, enhance supervisory or management techniques, or help employees be safer on the job. They are in a separate catalog mailed to companies and firms, but you can view an online, searchable version at www.lc.edu/CCL. Click on the catalog view that is titled “Corporate Learning.” With two separate catalogs, we hope you can more quickly and easily find exactly what you are looking for. Please share your thoughts with us – we look forward to your comments on Facebook!

Green Myths Debunked! Myth: Investing in landscaping won’t pay off in the long run. Fact: A study conducted by Virginia Tech University concluded that landscaping does pay off – and the more sophisticated the better. House values with well landscaped green spaces increased from 5.5 percent to 11.4 percent, meaning a home worth $150,000 with no landscaping could be worth up to $19,050 more with some mature trees, bushes and flowers. Junior Golf: Level 2

Sure, chillin’ out is cool. But rockin’ out is a blast! That’s why you’re gonna love the ZumbAtomic® fitness program for kids. It’s a fast–forward fusion of popular Zumba® moves like salsa, cumbia, reggaeton and hip–hop and high–octane workouts designed to let kids max out on fun and fitness all at the same time. Safe and effective, kids can’t wait to get into the ZumbAtomic® groove. Through a variety of dance workouts, games, step breakdowns and kid choreographed routines, their energy and fitness levels will soar as they progress.

Embrace an active lifestyle by learning the fundamentals of the game including swing, putting, chipping, pitching, club selection, rules and course etiquette. Alongside instructor and LPGA member Laura McCune, junior golfers will receive individual coaching and support as they progress through this 6–week course. Bring your clubs if you have them or they will be provided upon request.

Build on the basic fundamentals and take your golf game to the next level. This will include working on consistency with ball flight, direction and distance, learning how far you hit each club, developing a consistent Preshot Routine, learning good Course Management and working on short game variations. You will still spend time on the range, however, now it’s time to learn how to really play golf on the course. This is the only place you can really learn to play the game. Alongside instructor and LPGA member, Laura McCune, you will receive individual coaching and support as you progress through all phases of the game. Bring your clubs if you have them or they will be provided upon request.

Animal Adventures Performing Arts Bald and Beautiful: Eagle Adventure

Rocky Branch Saddle Club

Shining Stars Little Theater

Come and explore one of America’s most majestic animals – the bald eagle! In this one–day adventure camp, kids will learn many fascinating facts about bald eagles from a host of local park rangers. Spot eagles in their natural habitat from the heights of the Alton Lock and Dam and learn about migration, breeding, nesting and feeding behaviors through a variety of engaging activities. Camp participants will also have an opportunity to get an up close and personal viewing of a live bald eagle at the end of the day. Don’t forget your camera!

The Rocky Branch Saddle Club’s 10–level program takes riders from beginner to accomplished equestrian. Each level is a set of building blocks combining riding skills and horse care knowledge such as how much oats to feed a horse, the difference between hay and straw, and how to clean a horse’s hooves. Riding activities include playing games on horseback, riding bareback, navigating hills and bridges and a life–size riding maze. Saddle Club riders will learn to ride both English and Western styles with confidence. Merit pins are awarded at each level; riders who complete all 10 levels will graduate as an assistant riding instructor. Special activities include arts and crafts, demonstrations from a professional horse trainer, and assisting a veterinarian or horse– shoer. Saddle Club incorporates the riding handbook “Happy Horsemanship” (available for purchase along with club jackets and riding helmets).

Hey, kids! You’ll want to sign up and join the cast in this new spring production! From making costumes to creating scenery, kids will learn the operation of producing and presenting a class play. We will take a classic fairy tale and turn it into a musical drama. Parents, bring your cameras– you won’t want to miss it – the curtain goes up during the last class session! It’s sure to be a smash hit!

Kids will learn how to brush their horse, put the saddle on its back, and tell it how to stop, go and turn in the very first class. Rocky Branch horses are generous, patient and sweet–natured. Riders will demonstrate their new skills for family and friends on the last day and be presented with a rosette ribbon. Young riders must be accompanied by an adult who will participate in each class by helping to brush, saddle up and lead the horse while their child is riding.
