Volunteer Voice - Jenny McNeil

I started volunteering at Lewis-Manning Hospice Care 14 years ago. It is one of the decisions I have made that has rewarded me in so many ways. I love the interaction in conversations with the patients and over the years these have indeed been many and varied. It is so nice to be part of their attendance at the day hospice and to be able to assist with the morning activities.

Our art table often releases talents that some never knew they had and the quizzes always entertain - sometimes more electrifying than edifying. It is a pleasure to see patients settle in to enjoy their time and watch them participate in gentle exercise and join in the sing songs with visiting musicians.
I know that the uncertainty with which patients sometimes approach their sessions is just as mine was when I first started. Soon though the upbeat atmosphere and friendly company of others quickly comforts and assures, guaranteeing that we all have a good time!
“All of the volunteers at Lewis-Manning Hospice Care are absolute gems. We wouldn’t be able to achieve what we do without their incredible help. If you’re thinking of volunteering, we say... DO IT! Through volunteering, you can challenge yourself to try something different. You can gain new skills or rediscover ones you had forgotten – and meet new people”
