LEWESTON LIFE REFLECTS THE MANY ACHIEVEMENTS OF LEWESTON PUPILS OVER THE LAST FEW MONTHS

WELCOME FROM THE HEAD

As we come to the close of a vibrant and fulfilling Spring Term, I am delighted to reflect on the many achievements and moments of pride we’ve shared as a school community. This term has been bursting with energy and excellence across all areas of school life. On the sports field, our pupils have shown remarkable skill, teamwork, and determination, representing the school with pride and achieving some truly outstanding results. From thrilling matches to personal bests, our athletes have continually raised the bar

The performing arts have equally shone this term, with captivating performances that showcased not only talent but also creativity, confidence, and the joy of collaboration.

Whether on stage, behind the scenes, or in the rehearsal room, our pupils’ commitment to their craft has been truly inspiring

We also celebrated notable success in the Sixth Form, with our students receiving impressive university offers, raising incredible sums for charity, and taking on the challenge of Ten Tors. Their achievements are a testament to their hard work and passion, and we are incredibly proud of their continued success.

Beyond the accolades, what stands out most is the spirit of our students their enthusiasm, resilience, and support for one another. This has made the Spring Term a rich and rewarding chapter in our year

StudentsPutonaMemorable UpperSchoolProduction

Students in Years 10 to 13 performed in an unforgettable school production of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, showcasing exceptional performances and innovative staging that brought Christopher Boone's world to life.

Staged in the round, with an ambitious combination of lighting, sound, and projection effects, the school's Performing Arts department succeeded in immersing the audience into Christopher Boone’s world, giving them a chance to see things from his unique perspective.

Special mention must also go to Miss McIntosh, English and Drama teacher, who not only led the production, but also took to the stage herself! Another mention must go to Mr Stephens from our Computer Science department, who, alongside Sixth Form student Oliver, headed up the tech for the production, creating show-stopping lighting and sound.

Shakespeare Monologues

As part of their English Assessment, Year 7 students memorised a chosen passage from Shakespeare's 'A Midsummer Night's Dream' and impressed their peers and teachers when they performed in class and around the school grounds.

Three of our choirs, featuring over 100 talented pupils, performed in the Taunton Festival of the Arts. Our Prep Choir secured a very close second. The Festival Singers impressed in the Younger Senior Choirs category and came first, winning the Bishop Fox’s Cup for Senior Choirs. Meanwhile, Schola Cantorum triumphed in the older category earning the prestigious Taunton Music Festival Choral Challenge Bowl

BOARDING AND INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

Celebrating International Student Achievements!

As the Spring term came to a close, we had the privilege of recognising the outstanding achievements of our international students during the end-of-term assembly. It was an inspiring event, showcasing the dedication, resilience, and talent of students who, in many cases, have only been with us for a short time yet have made a lasting impression on their teachers and peers

A wide range of prizes were awarded across academic subjects, highlighting the diverse strengths of our students. In addition, the prestigious Lexden Prize, voted for by staff, was presented in recognition of exceptional contributions to the school community and beyond to Ukrainian student, Alex in Year 13. Dasha, Year 12, another one of our Ukrainian students was nominated for the award also.

A number of our Year 10 Mexican students were awarded subject awards, showing that their inquisitive and determined attitude whilst studying GCSE level content can bring about lots of potential for the future.

We were also thrilled to share the outstanding success of five of our students who passed their IELTS exams with flying colours! Among their impressive results, one student achieved an overall band score of 8, and two students scored an incredible 8 5 in their Listening tests

Most universities require a minimum score of 6 in each skill area out of a possible 9, but these students far exceeded expectations! Their dedication, hard work, and focus on mastering the language while balancing their academic commitments have truly paid off.

Short Stay Programme

We are delighted to welcome international students to our diverse range of courses and programmes, from Pre-A Level to Short Stay experiences. From September to February, we had the pleasure of hosting students from Germany for a term and a half.
