Qanat
Gli acquedotti sotterranei della geniale ingegneria araba Mille anni fa Palermo era tra le metropoli più affollate d’Europa, ma l’acqua non mancava mai grazie ai qanat, acquedotti sotterranei che captavano le sorgenti che abbondavano nella “Conca d’Oro” e trasportavano l’acqua attraverso gallerie con una pendenza minima: i pozzi, nel centro urbano, potevano pescare a una profondità notevolmente inferiore rispetto a quella in cui si trovava il livello della falda, quindi con più facilità e un minore dispendio di energia. Alcuni qanat scorrevano nelle vicinanze, o al di sotto delle dimore della nobiltà che, proprio per la presenza di acqua corrente, potevano godere di un abbassamento termico che dava ristoro nelle lunghe giornate estive. Sarà possibile visitare il qanat del cosiddetto Gesuitico Alto, realizzato nel XVI secolo da Gerardo Alliata, cavaliere di Malta.

Some qanat flowed at or below the mansions of the nobility who, due to the presence of running water, could enjoy lower temperatures, which gave relief on long summer days. You can visit the qanat Gesuitico alto, built in 16th century by Gerardo Alliata, Knight of Malta.
