Leventhorpe a business
and enterprise academy

I hope you find this additional information interesting and helpful. It should be used in conjunction with our full prospectus and will give you a glimpse of what makes Leventhorpe such an amazing school. This is truly an environment in which every child is valued and cared for and in which they are constantly challenged to develop into young people ready and able to make significant contributions in the wider world.
Staff, parents and students work together to create a community based on secure, shared values of Excellence, Commitment and Respect. These values are at the heart of everything we do here at Leventhorpe and inform all aspects of the school, from the individual curriculum that enables all students to achieve the highest possible academic standards, to the outstanding pastoral system that ensures that the needs of each student are met fully.
This year saw our students perform superbly well in their summer exams with another set of fantastic GCSE results. 22% of entries were at grades 7-9 (old A*-A). In English 92% of our students achieved at least a grade 4 (equivalent to an old grade C) with 74% gaining at least a grade 4 in Maths. We continue to see students of all abilities securing excellent progress scores. One third of students achieved on average 1.5 grades per entry above the expected targets set when they joined the school. This means a student expected to get all grade 4s and 5s achieved an average of all grade 6s.
Our sixth form is supported with an excellent futures programme, and we were delighted to see so many students securing their places at university or in high quality degree apprenticeship schemes. Three students secured places at Oxford or Cambridge with many others going on to study at Russell Group universities.
We are all immensely proud of the work we are doing at Leventhorpe at such
an exciting time. We were last inspected in April 2024, and I encourage you to read the text of the full report. The team of inspectors were highly impressed by what they saw, and we have much to be rightly proud of in terms of our provision. The school is a centre for School Centred Initial Teacher Training (SCITT) working through the TES Institute, acting as the lead school for teacher training across local primary and secondary schools.
The school has expanded over recent years, and this has been accompanied by an extensive capital works programme to develop our site. These works were completed in September 2021 and have enabled the school to meet more of the demand we have for places in both the main school and sixth form.
Leventhorpe students are, rightly, very proud of their school. If you are visiting us at Open Evening, please take the opportunity to ask the students to share their thoughts and experiences of the school with you first hand.
Together we provide the care and opportunities for all to learn, grow, excel and face challenge with confidence

Clerk to the Governors Tracy Wilson
All policies of the Governing Body are available from the school upon request. You can contact the Governing Body through the Clerk to the Governing Body, Mrs Tracy Wilson via email on txw@leventhorpe.net
In order to apply for a place at Leventhorpe, you must complete your Local Authority Form. The form you should complete depends on where you live.
No application for a place at Leventhorpe will be accepted unless an application is submitted to the relevant Local Authority by the date specified (Friday 31st October 2025).
The admission criteria of the Governing Body are available on the school’s website and on page 8 of this document. Parents should note that there are changes from previous years. Places will be allocated by the Governing Body in strict accordance with these criteria. Parents will be informed of the outcome of their application on 2nd March 2026.
Appeals against decisions should be made directly to the Independent Appeals Panel.
If you have any queries or difficulties, please do not hesitate to contact Mrs Ayers at the school during school hours: Tel: 01279 603171
Email: lea@leventhorpe.net
Leventhorpe provides education for both boys and girls from age 11 to 18, with the expectation that most parents will be seeking a continuous schoolbased education for their children throughout this period. The number to be admitted to Year 7 in September 2026 is 240.
Leventhorpe’s values are “Excellence, Commitment and Respect” and these qualities, combined with a creative and innovative teaching environment, form the school’s ethos. Parents applying for a place for their child are expected to support the school’s ethos and aims in matters of work, discipline, extra-curricular activities and uniform.
If there are more applications for admission than places available at Leventhorpe, the governing body will allocate places over which it has discretion, in each case by applying the six criteria set out in this document.
If the school is oversubscribed, after the admission of pupils with an Education, Health and Care Plan where the school is named in the Plan, priority for admission will be given to those children who meet the criteria set out below, in order:
1. Children looked after and children who were previously looked after, including those who appear (to the admission authority) to have been in state care outside of England, and ceased to be in state care as a result of being adopted, or became subject to a child arrangement order or a special guardianship order.
Children previously looked after abroad and subsequently adopted will be prioritised under criterion 1 if the child’s previously looked after status and adoption is confirmed by Hertfordshire’s “Virtual School”.
2. Children who, at the closing date for applications, have a sibling currently attending Leventhorpe.
3. Children of all staff who are directly employed by the Rivers Multi Academy Trust who have worked at Leventhorpe School for two or more years or where the member of staff was or will be recruited to fill a post for which there is a skills shortage. The staff member must be the child’s legal parent (by blood, adoption or step-parent) and have been living at the same address as the child for a minimum of 2 years.
4. Children who, at the closing date for applications, attend one of the following priority primary schools: Hatfield Heath, High Wych, Little Hallingbury, Mandeville, Reedings, Sheering, Spellbrook, St Andrews (Much Hadham).
5. Children who reside permanently within the parishes of Gilston and Eastwick.
6. Should there be places unfilled after applying criterion 5, then places will be offered on the basis of shortest straight-line distance between permanent residence to the School as determined by Hertfordshire County Council, with those living closer being accorded a higher priority. Addresses are routinely checked and places may be withdrawn if a false address has been given.
In the event of being oversubscribed within any criterion then selection will be determined by applying criterion 6 (distance).
You should apply under more than one criterion if you can.
At secondary transfer Leventhorpe will admit over the school’s published admission number when a single twin/multiple birth child is allocated a place at the school. Random allocation will be used as a tie-break in criteria 1 - 6 above to decide who has highest priority for admission if the distance between two children’s homes and the school is the same. This process will be independently verified. The governing body will normally only consider one application for admission to the school for a student in any one academic year. In a case where circumstances relevant to the application have substantially altered the governors may, at their discretion, consider a further application within the school year.
In managing the transition to secondary school, parents/carers may seek a secondary school place for their child outside of their normal age group. This will have been previously discussed with the primary school that the child attends. To enable the school to advise as to whether your application to Leventhorpe in the preferred year group will be accepted, parents must provide the school with evidence as to why the original request to be educated outside of the chronological year group was made. The school should be in receipt of this information by 30th September 2025 so that the request can be processed and a decision can be communicated to parents before the main admissions deadline of 31st October 2025. The governing body is ultimately responsible for making this decision for applications made to Leventhorpe. Accepted applications will be processed as part of the main admissions round, unless the parental request is made too late for this to be possible, and using the admissions criteria (1-6) above. There is no guarantee that an application will be accepted. If the application is not accepted this does not constitute a refusal of a place and there is no right to an independent statutory appeal.
If your family is in the process of moving house your new address will not be considered until a move into the area has actually taken place or proof of future residence is provided (e.g. a solicitor’s letter indicating that there has been an exchange of contracts).
New addresses will be considered up to 1st December 2025.
• 240 places will be offered by applying the admissions arrangements. If you fail to gain a place at Leventhorpe, your Local Authority should offer you a place at a different school.
• Whether or not you accept such a place, you can ask to be placed on the Continuing Interest List of Leventhorpe. If a place at Leventhorpe becomes vacant during the year, the school will offer it to someone from the Continuing Interest List, in strict accordance with the admission arrangements. As the year progresses, the Continuing Interest List may include people who have just moved into the area and want a place for their child. They will have the same status as others on the list and, depending on which of the criteria they match, may be offered a place first.
• Children who are the subject of a direction by a local authority to admit or who are allocated to a school in accordance with an In-Year Fair Access Protocol may be admitted over the planned admission number and may take precedence over others on the Continuing Interest List.
• It is the responsibility of parents to contact the school to state their continued interest at the start of each academic year.
• You only have the right to appeal if you have been refused a place upon application. Parents wishing to appeal who applied through Hertfordshire’s online system should log into their online application and click on the link “register an appeal”. Out of county residents and paper applicants should call the Customer Service Centre on 0300 123 4043 to request their registration details and log in to www.hertfordshire.gov. uk/schoolappeals and click on the link “Secondary school appeals”.
All applications must be made on the Leventhorpe Application Form. When applications are received by Leventhorpe for admission other than for the start of Year 7, any available places will be allocated using the admissions criteria (1-6 in the order above). Parents wishing to apply should contact the school directly in the first instance. We will write to you with the outcome of your application and if you have been unsuccessful, the county council will write to you with registration details to enable you to login and appeal online at: www.hertfordshire.gov.uk/schoolappeals
